Klavan On The Culture

For A Larf

Am I the last person to have discovered Posh Nosh?  It’s a nine minute BBC show from back in 2003 that’s now making the rounds on YouTube.  Use the link above or google it or search it on YouTube – you can’t miss it.  It’s a parody of high-toned cooking shows staring the wonderful Richard E. Grant of the long ago cult hit Withnail and I, and Arabella Weir, one of the show’s creators.  If your experience is like mine, you won’t find yourself laughing uproariously while you watch, but over the next few days the show will keep coming back to you and cracking you up.  The parody cooking language is hilarious and so’s the relationship between the husband and wife chefs whose mission is to bring “extraordinary food to ordinary people.”  Even the theme song’s a laugh and a half.  Give it a try and, even if you don’t find it all that funny at first, let it simmer to a slow burn, then serve.  Thrilling times, as they say on the show, may vary.

My wife and I love it!Grant’s portrayal of the borderline psycho, snobbish, gay, dog loving, aristocratic husband, is a study in barely -restrained homicidal hysteria. Each show is a small masterpiece.Regards
