New CNN Slogans Cheap

CNN now rates last among cable news networks.  Gee, I wonder why that is.  The good folks over at PowerLine think it might “be attributed to the network’s liberalism in general and its attacks on, and sniggering denigrations of, normal Americans.”  Well, maybe.  But maybe all they really need is a change of slogan.  And so, always ready to throw enough rope to our flailing Mainstream Media, I’ve come up with some suggestions:

CNN:  We Report, You Turn On FoxNews To Find Out What Really Happened

CNN:  Where Glenn Beck Used To Work

CNN:  The Most Trusted Name In Sniggering Denigrations of Normal Americans

CNN:  Because No News Is Good News

CNN:  The President Likes Us; He Really, Really Likes Us

CNN:  Where You Get All The Rush Limbaugh Quotes You Won’t Get From Rush

CNN:  Saturday Night Live Fears Us!

CNN:  No, Really.  We Used To Have Glenn Beck.

CNN:  When The President’s A Hologram, Shouldn’t The People Who Cover Him Be Holograms Too?

And my personal choice:

Yes, We CNN!

Please feel free to add your own – the best entry will win a free tingle up his or her leg.  But other than that, keep it clean.

Oct 29, 2009 - 2:15 am 67. Dougf:

Well to be candid, IF CNN had not already blotted its copybook through its past agit-prop actions, and were it to merely BE the NEWS NETWORK it pretends to be, I would watch it over Fox any day of the week.

Much as I really do appreciate Fox’s slant or more precisely the fact that it isn’t MSNBC, I find it’s programming to be a little on the, ummm, almost brain-dead side. You can’t be an educated consumer or make rational decisions on World events if you don’t have the facts and frankly Fox does not do very much NEWS. Not nearly as much as it should.

The latest Fox self-commercials emphasize how much effort it puts into gathering NEWS, but the commercials are about the only things on the network that are NEWS. The rest — car chases, balloon events, missing people, celebrity trials, silly Hannity tricks, Beck circus performances, is NOT NEWS.

In a way it’s too bad about CNN, but I think they are done. They deliberately, ruined their own brand by being merely a propaganda machine for the ‘left’ for YEARS. You can’t walk back from that. You just can’t. Once a propagandist; always a propagandist.
It’s like that joke about doing that one thing ONCE and from then on you are known for ONLY that. Campbell Brown just recently asked a very penetrating question of Valerie Jarrett concerning the different Whitehouse standards for Fox and NSNBC. Bill O’Reilly made a point of congratulating her on his show. But I remember Ms. Brown from her previous incarnation as a shill for ‘progressive’ positions. And I can’t and won’t ‘trust’ her now. It’s clearly a ‘pose’.

That is CNN’s problem. MSNBC has the insane ‘progressive’ demographic pretty much locked up at this point and Fox has the center-right firmly in it’s camp. There probably is a decent market for what CNN might offer as strictly NEWS, but CNN itself can never get to it.

Too bad for CNN. And frankly not too great for the rest of us, either.

“At least with Fox, you know you’re dealing with a fake new organization dispensing right wing jingoistic rubbish meant for entertainment and ratings and not journalism, but CNN and the other more supposedly responsible “mainstream” media look and feel more serious and journalistic……”

Well, I suppose that’s one point of view. Let’s try another, shall we?

With CNN, you know you’re dealing with a fake news organization dispensing left wing jingoistic rubbish meant for entertainment and ratings and not journalism, but FOX looks and feels more serious and journalistic.

OK – now we have two points of view. Now, how should we decide which is more valid? Hmmmmmm……well, according to the left wingers, this country is moving to the left and abandoning conservatism in droves, which logically, should result in more viewers for a network like CNN….yet for SOME REASON STRANGE REASON, FOX has ratings that are soaring while the other “news organizations” are tanking.

Why is that?

I guess there’s just a lot of dumb Americans out there in flyover country, right BC? I guess this is just further ‘evidence’ that the average American is too stupid for their own good and that we all really NEED the ’smart folks’ from the left to look out for us. I guess the average American is just a mouth-breathing knuckle-dragger who couldn’t pour piss out of a boot with instructions printed on the heel (and is probably a fan of NASCAR too) and we all just really really really NEED a ‘News Organization’ like CNN to……what was it again? “….clarifying what’s fact and what’s malicious idiocy when dealing with things like global warming or the health care debate.”

When a ‘news organization’ only presents one side of debate, it isn’t a news organization – it’s a propaganda machine. Just because you may not LIKE the other side of a debate, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be reported. And when the WH has a policy they wish to implement (any WH), it is the JOB of journalists to NOT simply parrot the talking points of that administration (whether it’s Republican OR Democrat) but to QUESTION IT.
