even if the reason for him to resign, as you say, is most likely him arguing with the general to reduce troop levels, that too is appeasement of sorts to Iran.

It seems to me that Fallon is maneuvering for a top job in a Democratic administration. His bumbling accomodationism would fit right in with the historic appeasement and lack of clarity that Democratic administrations, from Wilson, to FDR, to JFK, Carter and Clinton, that eventually forced the U.S to enter into larger engagements than was necessary.

Enough was enough: there is no place for a softly-softly Iran Appeaser in military ranks. This had to happen.
Especially when it is now clear that Hardliner militants will make a clean sweep in Iran's pariamentary elections.*

* Condi and other state department legacy-loving diplomats, who are graduates of the Madeleine Albright school of Islamist-Appeasing, were murmuring in the President's ear the false and baseless hope that the so-called "Reformists" (mullahs with European ties) will win in the spring Iran election; so that Condi could strike the infamous "Grand Bargain" with Euro-mullahs in Iran and call it good before she left office.

Well, think again, Condi. With Fallon out, the next best thing that could happen to establishing a genuine and secular Iranian democracy, will be for Condi herself to throw in the towel and get the hell out now!

Fallon was trying to act above his pay grade. He temporarily forgot that he (Fallon) was not the overall Commander In Chief.

Call it Alzheimer's, call it arrogance and presumption--either way, he is best off the field.

The conversatoin went like this: Bob; Let me tell you...
Fire that son of a _ich!

Remember it? General Douglas Mac to Bob Considine

President harry to General Marshal.

Why all of this fighting over an Admiral going to the press, to voice that the Prisident is wrong and the Admiral our only hope?

Could it be that this time the President is an R? Yes there was loud yelling and great support for General Mac. But then he was a very well know successful general. WWI, WWII nad Korea, and that leaves out the Mexican war.

I have also read that Fallon was the highest military figure behind the incendiary release of that disgraceful and absurd NIE which alleged Iran had abandoned its quest for nukes.
