An Open Letter to Americans Who Love Israel
A few things to seriously consider before casting your vote on November 4.
“I want to remind those of you … who don’t know me and those of you who do know me what my record has been. It has been unstinting in the defense and support of Israel,” he said at a community center, having discussed at length his travels there and work as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “I give you my word as a Biden, I would not have given up that job to be Barack Obama’s vice president if I didn’t — in my gut, and in my heart, and in my head — know that Barack Obama is exactly where I am on Israel.”
– Vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden, September 2, at a Jewish community center in Florida
Please, dear reader, do call me a skeptic; I am one. I started learning the price of gullibility in first grade. I traded my chocolate chip cookies to a third grader for his promise of a new pencil sharpener at recess. He lied; I learned.
My grandfather helped. He taught me to “always consider the source” before believing a promise and to never place my trust in an untrustworthy person. I lived and I learned.
Now that I’m well into my sixth decade of life, I’m a very hard sell. And the higher the stakes riding on the promise, the more care I put into my decision to proffer my trust.
When it comes to Israel and her survival as a free nation, the stakes are so high that it behooves even the most trusting American to examine closely the words and records of our candidates in this regard. And, sadly, we are forced to admit that the only reason Joe Biden had to make the reassuring statement above to Jews in Florida is that his candidate, Barack Obama, has the most tenuous, nearly nonexistent, and utterly unreliable “record” of any candidate ever to seek the presidency.
Especially in the arena of foreign affairs. Especially with regard to Israel and the Palestinians.
Scores of articles have already been written about Barack Obama’s rubbery rhetoric, the kind that stretches credulity to the popping point. As it stands now, this untested knave has made so many contradictory statements regarding Israel — a divided or undivided Jerusalem, the threat of radical Islamic terrorists, and on and on and on — that one must pinpoint the date of a statement to even attempt to figure out where Obama actually stands on anything whatsoever.
But Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is absolutely certain of one thing. He’s certain — certain — that the unreliable Obama will be tested within his first six months by other leaders around the globe. Where Americans have utterly failed to properly vet and test this candidate for the presidency, rogue regimes and terrorists and leaders bent on flexing their military muscle will not fail to test and terrorize in their attempts to find the limits of Obama’s mettle.
Not surprisingly, John McCain agrees.
But no American voter need take the word of the Republican candidate, John McCain, for any of this. We have the words of Hillary Clinton. We have the words of Joe Biden. We have the words of Joe Lieberman.
What’s even more startling to me is the fact that Barack Obama has laid out his specific plan to weaken America’s defenses — piece by piece — in the hope that countries like Iran, Russia, North Korea, and a host of other threatening, hell-bent regimes will see our example and follow suit.
Candidate Obama even made a video, in which he states unequivocally his plan to stake the security of the entire peace-loving world upon his own completely untested skill as a diplomat.
From where I sit, this isn’t a job for a diplomat; it’s the job of a messiah.
Nevertheless, Obama makes the following pledges regarding defense:
“I will cut tens of billions of dollars of wasteful defense spending.”
This makes me nervous.
“I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.”
Actually these systems are proving quite capable of protecting against attack.
“I will not weaponize space.”
Even if Russia and China do?
“I will slow our development of future combat systems.”
Letting enemy regimes catch up with us helps preserve the peace? How?
“I will not develop new nuclear weapons.”
Well, it might be diplomatic to let Iran, Syria, North Korea, and others catch up with us. But is it safe?
“I will seek a global ban on the development of fissile material, and negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert and achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.”
Obama’s grandfather clearly did not teach him to consider the source and not to put one’s trust in untrustworthy people.

1. Marc Malone:I got a laugh out of Peggy Noonan’s endorsement of Obama. She made clear that John McCain is head and shoulders stronger in foreign policy than… well, anyone. He not only knows the general issues, but he knows everyone, including lesser leaders. They all know him. There’s simply no comparison between him and Obama.
This is the usual result of a Republican administration. they make people feel safe, so people forget about the threat, and vote their pocketbooks for Dems. The Dems then screw up foreign affairs, and the Pubs clean it up, etc….
The Prez’s FIRST duty is foreign affairs, above all else. This, then should be the first criterion of selecting a CinC. There is no contest in this election. Stupid sheeple… like Noonan.
Oct 29, 2008 - 1:51 am 2. Kirk:Israel is a friend of the United States. Israel is a isolated democracy in a sea of hostile poverty. Israel is not, however, always the ‘best’ of friends to us. The Israeli lobby is a powerful force in DC. They get alot more money from the US than is expressly handed to them in the form of a large check. They get weird deals through the US government. Two examples I’ve seen are $6 yellow peppers from Israel in a military commissary. So expensive, no one would buy them. Left to rot and get tossed. Wonderful Israeli towels in the temporary housing facilities. Extravagant and expensive. They get strange contracts bought with their influence. Lets not even get into them selling missles to China that our Navy may have to face one day in a possible Taiwanese conflict. So, Israel is our friend, sure. Canada is too but we don’t drop our pants and bend over every time they ask. Lets keep our friendship with Israel in prespective. They certainly keep their friendship with us in the perspective of how it benefits them.
How American Jewry divides their loyalties I can’t be sure, they don’t all behave the same. I suppose a vote for Barack Obama might be more hazardous to Israel’s survival, but I thought American Jews voted like American blacks, for the Democrats? If that true that explains so many conservative Jewish ‘open letters’ to fellow Jews. Pleading for them to leave the reservation? It will be interesting to read the demographic breakdowns after the election.
Oct 29, 2008 - 2:05 am 3. mik:if mccain leads the country the way he leads his campaign, then there is absolutely no reason to vote for him.
he can’t even control his vp, the one HE picked. what does that say about his judgement?
mccain will say anything to win. he’s 72. he needs to learn the words integrity.
the gutter campaign he’s running is very unbecoming of him. so sad.

Oct 29, 2008 - 4:34 am 5. Lawrence Kohn:The promise to build no new nuclear weapons is dangerous for a far more important reason than the present or future arsenals of North Korea and Iran. Russia, already a nuclear superpower like the US, deployed a new nuclear land based ICBM, Topol, during Yeltsin’s regime. Now Putin has followed up by building a mobile version of Topol and another multiple independent re-entry vehicle nuke and is working on a new nuclear armed sub. Russia’s Chinese Communist ally is also moving ahead in missile development and space. During the past 17 years since the alleged end of the Cold War the US has relied on its existing arsenal and worked to reduce it. Strategic superiority can only be maintained by continual development and modernization and will not be sustained by slogans such as “we are the world’s only superpower” in the face of two global giants asserting their designs for global hegemony.
Oct 29, 2008 - 5:11 am 6. Kyle-Anne Shiver:When I was in 4th grade, I read “The Diary of Ann Frank,” and I can remember thinking that the German people then had to be truly evil or truly stupid. I simply could not believe otherwise and understand how they could have allowed Adolph Hitler to have achieved complete power over them, primarily through the ballot.
Now, however, I realize that we are just like them. We are being deceived in massive numbers by the same temptations that have forever been the lure that snares men’s souls. Money. False blame seeking a scapegoat. Utopian fantasies.
It’s all here, held in the open hands of Barack Obama and his Democrat handmaidens, waiting for fools to rush in and partake. Prince of Lies. False promises of collective salvation. Sell out our friends for “peace.” Why don’t Americans recognize these simple temptations? They aren’t anything new after all. They’ve been around, well…FOREVER.
Oct 29, 2008 - 5:16 am 7. cedarford:Kirk – How American Jewry divides their loyalties I can’t be sure, they don’t all behave the same. I suppose a vote for Barack Obama might be more hazardous to Israel’s survival, but I thought American Jews voted like American blacks, for the Democrats?
The Jewish vote in Florida is going 79-21% for Obama with elderly voters. For middle age and younf Jews, they want Obama by 68-24%, with 7% saying they are undecided. NYC’s Jews are supposedly going 80-85% for Obama in a poll taken a month ago.
Also, most of the not insignificant Jewish donor clout is going to Democrats, as it always has been. Obama himself, plus his wife, were given powerful patronage in politics and at University of Chicago by 3 Jewish billionaire families. (Crowns, Pritzkers, Klutzniks). His Team Axelrod is heavily Jewish. His ties to Ayers happened through wealthy Jewish ex-members of the SDS, such as Marilyn Katz and Bette Lu (Klutznik) Saltzman.
Chicago’s Jews have known Obama a long, long time, and they are not just comfortable with him, but they have been long-time boosters. A couple more of the well-known ones are Abner Mikva – famous power lawyer, and socialist Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (friend of Pelosi, husband served time in the Fed slammer for a financial scam).
Concerns about Obama and Israel appear misplaced. Many in his inner circle are avid Zionists. His visit to Israeli leaders had them saying (Shimon Peres, David Horowitz of the Jerusalem Post) that Obama had a better knowledge and mastery of the issues than John McCain..who showed up with, then leaned heavily on his good friend Joe Liberman when he drew blanks on matters Israel sees as vital.
Yes, Obama has separate circles of black Muslim and Muslim immigrant supporters. His Jewish backers do not seem to see it as any problem for Jews or critical Israeli issues, notably aid and Iran.
The reason Republicans seem to constantly focus on and obsess about Israel is as much due to rallying the evangelicals who call themselves Christian Zionists as desire, futile in a 50-year quest – to get more Jewish support. The CZs have a near-worship of Israel, exemplified by McCain’s old friend Preacher Hagee and Palins answer to questions with “We will never 2nd-guess what Israel wants”. A side issue is Republicans wanting to lay on the Israel fealty to persuade media markets they believe Jews dominate to treat them better, but that doesn’t seem to work, at least the Hollywood and MSM parts..
It doesn’t seem to be a smart Republican strategy. The Jewish vote and war chest is not in play, but other groups now aligning in the majority with Democrats are.
If, anytime a Republican is tempted to riddle a speech or pepper ads or an appearance with endless expressions of love and devotion to Israel and its backers – they instead should substitute groups they neglect badly. Which they’d be better off spending their time and effort wooing.
And we all know that Bush’s close association with hardline pro-Israel, anti-Europe and Muslim ME Neocons and following their advice – crippled his Presidency. And gave McCain one of his gravest liabilities – the sense in Middle America that he is hungry to start a 3rd major war and send soldiers to die and get oil cutoff to deepen our economic crisis – not in our vital interests, but to “help Israel”. Now, Christian Zionists are avidly in favor of that 3rd War, but not the large majority of the American people – nor any real ally we have defense treaties with, nor any other nation, save one.
There are a hell of a lot more votes with those groups leaning or in the Dem camp, which they give away by default.
A bit of attention to hispanic groups, mention of how much you care about Mexico, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic doing well (not just Cuba issues when a Republican realizes they are in Florida). Instead of going on and on about “the danger to Israel”, why not discuss the concerns of Filipino and Vietnamese and Chinese Americans and the issues they see as important here in America and with Asia? Mention that they are as eager to meet with Indian-American entrepreurs, academics, professionals and non-professionals, and small business owners – as the Republican is eager to meet with AIPAC or the local synogogue’s directors.
Right now, Republicans are building up Ahmadinejad the same way they built up Saddam as “the only problem worth talking about” back in 2002-2003, dismissing what othercountries and ethnics and voter groups in America saw as their big issues. And discussed Saddam and now Ahmadinejad as mainly as a threat to Israel, not us. And the Iranian guy is only a medium-level player in Iran, not unchallenged dictator like Saddam was. Maybe a little more attention on the leaders of Columbia, Mexico, India, Canada, Poland? How Algeria and Argentina are doing?
Why not, if you say “Israel” a thousand times in a primary, to bank that down to 500 mentions for “the Special Friend” – and substitute 100 about Mexico and jobs? Or add 60 mentions of the needs of gay people? Or even blacks?
If, just half the time a Republican mouth opens about “protecting Israel” or “helping our friends in Israel” – they instead say “protecting middle class jobs”, “helping women now caring for an elderly relative”, caring about our friends and fellow citizens in inner cities or California? Wouldn’t Republicans be better off?
(The same thing said about Israel could also be applied to endless declarations of admiration of “the troops”, and “hero cops”. Are there not groups or people in the other 297 million Americans that Republicans could find time to give public accolades and attention to? )
Oct 29, 2008 - 5:27 am 8. SAF:Actually the entire election is a Karl Rove plot. Goes like this:
Get Obama elected so that in four years everyone will be saying gee, GWB isn’t the worst president there ever was it is this guy.
While Obama is president he will let the mad mullahs nuke Tel Aviv there by creating a 90%+ voting block of Jews for the republicans.
The man is brilliant.

Oct 29, 2008 - 5:39 am 10. Tomasacio:I am terribly concerned that the” International Crisis” alluded to by Sen. Biden is the withdrawal of American military support from Israel altogether. Thus opening the doors to an all out assault on Israel from all quarters with no big brother to come to the rescue, which is absolutely the only deterrent now. This could include a nuclear strike from Iran or a follow=on retaliatory strike from elsewhere (perhaps Russia) after Israel launches first when Israel sees it’s end coming. I will never understand why the so called Jewish vote in this country supports Obama so strongly.
We would be safe a continent and a ocean away but I do not think we will be safer in the long term. Interesting times we live in.
Oct 29, 2008 - 5:40 am 11. Listen up:You have it right. We are just like the Germans in the 1930s who went wild for Hitler the community organizer. Look where it led. The US and England had to fight that bitter war to save the world and world Jews. My question now is, if the US elects Obama who will come to rescue America and the Jews of the world when Obama starts his destruction, because it will come to that?
Oct 29, 2008 - 5:42 am 12. Bill in NY:Wow, how in hell did we not hear about the dirty bomb intercepted by Somali pirates? This was a very good article, again particularly the things you just don’t hear is MSM, like the quoted text from Naomi Ragen. I find it stunning that the American Jews are in the Democrat camp, absolutely stunning how far they are willing to go in selling out the security of Israel to protect their liberal special interests from the relative safety of America. I take solace in knowing that God will protect His people, and those who defend her, as history shows. That said, if America turns her back on Israel, prepare to suffer His wrath.

Oct 29, 2008 - 5:54 am 14. ProgMeister:McCain has made almost all the same statements about defense spending. The notion that hordes of people on this site are suddenly fast and close friends of Israel is positively preposterous.
A desperate attempt to preserve the Florida vote is the name of this game. Give it up. Game over.

“”"Why don’t Americans recognize these simple temptations? They aren’t anything new after all. They’ve been around, well…FOREVER.”"”
I don’t think Americans as a whole are as strong morally as they once were due to the compromise of the education system, which USED to teach morality. Play fair, don’t steal, don’t lie, the old boy scout stuff. In two generations a large percentage has a weak moral compass and has been miseducated so bad, they can’t be reasoned with because they reject the truths offered to them. The phrase “You can’t cheat an honest man” comes to mind ; he’ll know something too good to be true usually is.
Cedarford, wow you know your American Jewry. If all that is true, then it implies to me that American Jews think very differently than Israeli Jews -OR- there is something I don’t understand. I assume as a given that Obama would be dangerous to us and our allies in his weakness (like Carter). If that is true and I think it is, then either American Jews don’t believe that truth or … don’t care about Israel? At least don’t care as much about Israel as their own internal political goals?
Oct 29, 2008 - 6:03 am 16. john from cinncinati:i watched Obamas speech and i thought this guy has crossed the line. he is talking like he was the republican candidate. later on i watched a video on yahoo it was about this military mom (Melissa Philips) talking about what America means to her and about her son going back to Iraq a third time. it seemed to be the very same speech. i am just worried that we are going to lead the way, for Israel, down the tubes. everybody is on the edge of their seats. it just doesn’t seem to matter what the dems say anymore, they are swallowing it whole.

Oct 29, 2008 - 6:59 am 21. Sandy Salt:The bigger question that still remains is what is Israel going to do about the Iran Nuke issue. You know that they absolutely can not allow the Iranians to build the bomb because it would be detonated in Tel Aviv or some other city by Iran or one of its proxies. Iran has zero to lose by doing this because it will be backed by almost 2 billion muslims for successfully attacking Israel. Europe will do nothing because it can not afford to go without oil and gas. Russia and China will definitely not side with Israel, so what does that leave, the US. The US under Obama will do nothing because we will be afraid of making all those muslims mad, but regardless we are next on the list, so it really doesn’t matter.
There is no winner in this fight because Israel has to do what it feels is in their best interests and I can assure you that isn’t a nuclear capable Iran. The only issue is whether we have the guts to stand with Israel or not. That answer is probably not especially if things go nuclear. Iran has clearly stated its intentions and has no reason not to carry through with those intentions. They only need the materials before this plan can go into action. Between now and February, it will be a guessing game of who will attack first and with what type of weapons. I believe Israel will attack first with conventional weapons and the surprise of all surprises will be that Iran already has a nuke and uses it in Tel Aviv. Then things go really bad from there. If Israel is successful in the conventional attack then they will have to withstand the proxy onslaught, which isn’t going to be pretty.
There will be calls for peace and as a condition the nuclear disarmament of Israel. This is never going to happen, so there will be a coalition of arms to force this through overwhelming conventional forces. This to will end badly because Israel will fight back for its very existance. You can worry about who supports who in this presidential election, but I really doubt either candidate is willing to attack Iran or protect Israel if it comes down to it.
Oct 29, 2008 - 7:14 am 22. sheltiemom:Mr. Obama Supporter (Cedarford) leaves out the fact that, for the most part, American Jews almost always knee-jerk liberal. Period. He goes to great lengths in naming Jewish names who are/were behind Obama in Chicago and elsewhere in the U. S. Obama speaks out of both sides of his mouth, depending upon the audience he’s addressing. And just once, I’d like to hear somebody – anybody – in the Democratic Party allude to the plight of poor non-Black people in the United States.
The Fraud is the least vetted, least qualified, least transparent candidate we’ve had running for president in my lifetime, which is a considerable number of years having been born just prior to FDR’s second term.

McCain is running a gutter campaign? By telling the truth about a Dem – it’s called Swiftboating, mik.
Obama’s campaign can’t reach up to the gutter. Question him and government officials illegally investigate you. Foreign donations accepted. Campaign donations not match up to donater adrresses. Anything said about him negatively must be ‘racist’. Obama’s ACORN buddies have already fraudulently registered enough false and duplicate voters to turn several cites and even states over to his side.
One more thing, are you claimng that Obama is controlling that gaffe machine that is his VP, Biden? If you do, you are lying through your teeth.
Oct 29, 2008 - 7:20 am 24. Paul B.:A good article. I know of the content of many of the embedded links, but most people don’t. I think an expanded version of this article, at least briefly excerpting some of those links, would be more effective. They build a powerful case against Obama’s past associations and positions, and they should not be glossed over in the rush of current political information.
Hopefully this article will get out to those who most need to read it. I understand McCain is going to do relatively well among Jews, but relatively well at this dire moment is not going to be good enough.
We also need to see that buried LATimes tape. Everyone needs to petition them at readers.rep@latimes.com . The shameless media are withholding critical information on the eve of the election.

Hope for Henry
Because of a technical glitch (namely, me), the following short film, about an incredibly brave kid named Henry Strongin Goldberg, fell off this blog last week. So I’m posting it again. Watch it. It’s important. Henry, who died six years ago, at the age of seven, lives on in the work of his parents, Laurie Strongin and Allen Goldberg (who is not related to me except in the we’re-all-brothers sense of related). Their Hope for Henry Foundation is dedicated to bettering the lives of seriously ill children. Our mutual friend, John Donvan, made this great film:

New Contest: Can You Out-Lame the TSA?
Last week, in response to my article about the idiocy of airport security, the head of the Transportation Security Administration, Kip Hawley, essentially conceded the main argument of my article, which was that America’s aviation security system is not designed to catch smart terrorists, but stupid terrorists. Here’s what Hawley wrote last week:
“Clever terrorists can use innovative ways to exploit vulnerabilities. But don’t forget that most bombers are not, in fact, clever. Living bomb-makers are usually clever, but the person agreeing to carry it may not be super smart. Even if “all” we do is stop dumb terrorists, we are reducing risk.”
Not quite believable. And yet he really said it.
And so, a contest: How would the Hawley Principle of Federally-Endorsed Mediocrity apply to other government endeavors?
To get you started, here’s an example:
“FEMA Administrator R. David Paulison said yesterday in a press conference that his agency is well-equipped to cope with the consequences of strong winds and heavy precipitation. `FEMA has been criticized for its performance during Hurricane Katrina, but I would like to point out that Katrina was a very big hurricane,’ he said. ‘Most storms, in fact, don’t become hurricanes, and it is these storms that we will focus our efforts on.’ Paulison went on to say that FEMA is also prepared to handle the after-effects of such moderate storms as minor flooding, downed tree branches, and missing cats.”
So, go to it. E-mail your entries to Goldberg.Atlantic@gmail.com. The Goldblog reader who comes up with the funniest application of the Hawley Principle wins a subscription to the Atlantic. If the winner is already a subscriber, well, thank you very much for your support.

The Jewish Extremists Behind “Obsession”
I’ve only watched the 12-minute version of “Obsession,” the film sent to more than 28 million people in various swing states, apparently by associates and partisans of the Jewish movement known as Aish HaTorah, or “Fire of the Torah,” but it was enough for to understand that it is the work of hysterics. One of my favorite hysterics, the Jerusalem Post’s Caroline Glick, is featured prominently, pieces of the sky falling about her head as she rants about the End of Days.
Aish HaTorah denies any direct connection to the film, which is designed to make naive Americans believe that B-52s filled with radical jihadists are about to carpet-bomb their churches, and are only awaiting Barack Obama’s ascension to launch the attack. But the manifold connections, as laid out in this article, among others, make it clear that high-level officials of Aish are up to their chins in this project. The most disreputable flack in New York, Ronn Torossian, who represents Aish, makes an appearance in this story, which was to be expected: Torossian last made the news when he employed sock-puppetry in defense of one of his many indefensible clients, Agriprocessors, Inc., the Luvavitch-owned kosher slaughterhouse that treats its employees nearly as badly as it treats its animals, which is saying something, because Agriprocessor slaughterers have been filmed ripping out the tracheas of living cattle.
But I digress. It’s said of Ronn Torossian that he represents “right-wing” Israeli politicians, but this description does not do his clients justice. “Right-wing” is Bibi Netanyahu. Torossian represents the lunatic fringe. Several years ago, in one of my only encounters with him, he introduced me to Benny Elon, a rabbi and settler leader who was then Israel’s tourism minister, and who, at various points in his career, has more or less advocated the ethnic cleansing of Israel of its Arab citizens. At one point, when Elon had gone to take a telephone call, Torossian and I started talking about Israel’s right to reprisal for terrorist attacks. I was arguing in favor of some sort of proportionality (this was after Jenin, in which the Israeli army chose to root out terrorism block by block rather than bomb the city from the air) but Torossian interrupted: “I think we should kill a hundred Arabs or a thousand Arabs for every one Jew they kill.” I was somewhat taken aback, of course, because this is a Nazi idea, rather than a Jewish idea. I asked him to explicate: “If someone from a town blows himself up and kills Jews, we should wipe out the town he’s from, kill them all. The Israelis are suckers. They should have destroyed Jenin.” He went on like this for some time. I would only note that Torossian, to the best of my knowledge, never volunteered for the Israeli army, so he seemed to me by definition a chickenhawk.
Torossian’s attitude toward Arabs and toward the peace process are echoed in the approach of Aish HaTorah, which is just about the most fundamentalist movement in Judaism today. Its operatives flourish in the radical belt of Jewish settlements just south of Nablus, in the northern West Bank, and their outposts across the world propagandize on behalf of a particularly sterile, sexist and revanchist brand of Judaism. Which is amusing, of course, because “Obsession” is meant to expose a particularly sterile, sexist and racist brand of Islam.
The tragedy of “Obsession” is not that it is wrong; the tragedy is that it takes a serious issue, and a serious threat — that of Islamism — and makes it into a cartoon. Its central argument is that the “Islamofascism” of today is not only the equivalent of Nazism, but worse than Nazism. This is quite a thing for a Jewish organization to argue. One of the featured speakers in “Obsession” is a self-described “former PLO terrorist” named Walid Shoebat, who argues on film that a “secular dogma like Nazism is less dangerous than Islamofascism is today.”
This is lunacy, of course. Islamism isn’t Nazism. It’s bad enough without being labeled Nazism. Martin Gilbert, the biographer of Churchill, shows up in the film as well, and doesn’t cover himself in glory: “History has an unfortunate habit of always repeating itself,” he says. Always? Does this mean that the Arabs are right now constructing death camps for the Jewish citizens of Israel?
Just unbelievable, but the most unbelievable part of the “Obsession” campaign is its timing: What does this film have to do with Barack Obama? The film is meant to suggest that Obama will provide aid and comfort to Islamism, or is an Islamist himself. There is not one shred of proof on this planet that Barack Obama is anything other than an Israel-supporting Christian. Yes, he went to party with Rashid Khalidi. So did I. Does that make me a member of Hezbollah?
I actually have another idea for a film: I would call it “Obsession” as well, but it would be about the poor souls who believe that Obama is a radical Muslim, that Israel has a right to expel Arabs from its lands, and that America should declare war on all of Islam

Oct 29, 2008 - 7:50 am 27. An Open Letter to Americans Who Love Israel:American Jewish intellectuals have for a century relentlessly brought forward the subversive Maxist utopia of centralization, uniformity, and enforced equality that are embedded in the very methods of Ayers and Obama. They assume they will escape the next conflageration even as they did not the last. This alone prove Montainge’s opinion that even opinion itself is of force enough to be expoused at the expense of life. Never again is but an incantation, the Jewish rosary bead on their next trip to extinction.
We easily and incorrectly assume Israeli Jews to be of a different opinion with the knife at their throat, but they are not. That is how powerful this odd instinct has become.
We are witnessing its flowering in America right now.

I mostly agree with your post with the exception of Obama being the least transparent. He is completely transparent what is interesting is how many people just want to look the other way.
And they want to look the other way. What he is is completely clear.
Oct 29, 2008 - 8:52 am 29. cedarford:Kirk – If all that is true, then it implies to me that American Jews think very differently than Israeli Jews -OR- there is something I don’t understand. I think it is you assume a huge difference between US Jews and Israel – they separate on only a few, like criminal and minority rights liberal American Jews have always advocated for because they live at some remove from the adverse effects. Israelis don’t have that luxury. But as for the rest, aside from the 20% that are ultra-religious or in Settlements, and a pattering of secular conservatives – the majority of Israelis are socialists to the left of Obama.
A recent poll by moderate-liberal newspaper Ha’aretz had Obama preferred by 65% of Israelis.
So the bulk of Israelis, like Jewish-Americans, prefer Obama. And that being the case, Republicans and conservatives are wasting considerable time and resources on people that disagree with them and vote against them. Better Republican time and effort was spent on groups that CAN join the Republican Party in majorities.
That leaves the problem of the Israel-worshipping Evangelicals, but that Christian Zionism is just one of many problems they pose to Republicans. Perhaps the biggest problem is they are alienating women, Libertarians, Catholics, hispanics with their intolerance and losing Republican ability to be a nation-wide Party.

Oct 29, 2008 - 8:55 am 30. S. R.:This a very powerful piece. Please share this with your friends, especially those of the Jewish faith who are blindly backing “the Messiah”.
Oct 29, 2008 - 9:25 am 31. Kurt:A Jew voting for Obama is like a chicken working for Col. Sanders.
While we all know that Obama will win the Jewish vote, I believe he will win less of it than Democratic candidates in the past. I am hoping that McCain will pull in at least 40% of the Jewish vote. Recent polling shows that Obama has about 60%, and sometimes 55% or so.
The reason for this is because it is clear that Obama made pains to surround himself with radical anti-Israeli and anti- Jewish activists to get credebility in his eary days in Chicago. I don’t think Obama ever thought he would ever have to deal with the issues in the Middle East outside of press releases and reading the occasional letter from a member of Hamas in the newsletter from Jeremiah Wright’s church. How was he to know that he would give one speech in 2004 and the guilty whites would look at him as some sort of Messiah?
There is no way an educated person who supports Israel can support this guy. If McCain can get 40% of the jewish vote he will win Florida. My money says, “Yes he can”
Oct 29, 2008 - 9:57 am 32. AdrianS:“According to the Jewish Agency, for the year 2007 Israel is home to 5.4 million Jews.” — From Wikipedia.
That’s 1.8% of the population in the United States. There could be more that do not declare their nationality.
But what’s telling is how they will vote. They will not make much difference being that their numbers are not great. But the Jewish population is highly intelligent and very influential.
The Bible says that those who bless Israel shall be blessed; and those who do not shall not be blessed. We bless Israel and pray the Jewish voters will also recognize that the weight will fall unusually hard on those of us who support Israel if they do not vote with us for John McCain.
God Bless America and Israel.
Oct 29, 2008 - 9:59 am 33. Zbigniew Mazurak:Sorry, but your article in PJM is too shallow, i.e. it created more questions than it answered.
1) Why does Israel get special treatment? How is Israel more important than America’s other allies? It’s not even a NATO member nor a NATO candidate.
Oct 29, 2008 - 10:21 am 34. Alexandra:2) Why did you omit that there is something more at stake in Israel (i.e. America’s credibility – if she abandons Israel or any other of her allies, her credibility will be 0 and no one will like her).
3) Why did you write this article? Most American Jews always vote for the Dems, and that trend is unchangeable. Currently, according to opinion polls, Obama is supported by 74% of American Jews. (I don’t know why do Jewish Americans vote for the Dems, that’s smth only they know.)
4) Why didn’t NATO ships try to stop that ship?
5) Why the hell does the West allow Commie China to trade with Iran at all (let alone sell Iran explosives)? So what if China is the world’s most populous country? I don’t care! Commie China should be punished with THE MOST SEVERE MEASURES AVAILABLE. An embargo against China would be a good start.
6) You do know that McCain voted to give the MFN status to Commie China, don’t you?
7) The space has been weaponised (by all ICBM-wielding nuclear powers, incl. Russia and China) since the first ICBM was launched in October 1957. ICBMs FLY through the space during their mid-phase. Also, China has shot down one if its obsolete satellites as a target a few years ago.

is a report of a man, associated with the LA Times, who’s supposedly seen a clip of the video of Obama toasting Khalidi at the party. He makes some statements that “riled” the audience. You can read what he says Obama said.
He thinks those remarks on the tape are the reason the LA Times won’t release it.
More than his presence with these people, it seems his own words are damning evidence of where Obama truly stands on Israel.
Oct 29, 2008 - 11:28 am 37. Marc Malone:cedarford – For the first tiem, I agree with most of what you’ve said. Your facts are solid. But….
We get now to the heart of the difference between Dems and Pubs. We support Israel, because we believe it is simply the right thing to do. We don’t choose our causes based on getting votes. Yes, we could pander to other groups for votes, but we don’t. We believe our basic tenets are right for everyone.
Who in their right minds isn’t a fiscal conservative? Why… people who want to use government to alter the basic nature of society. 72% of people self-identify as conservaitves this way. We all want lower taxes. We want smaller government. We want government to be about essential services only. We want them to be careful stewards of our tax monies.
Who really isn’t a social conervative? There it gets more tricky. There’re tradition and dogma on one hand, and sympathy for people in a jam on the other. The Pubs simply believe that sympathy is best expressed on a personal, not governmental, level. That’s why Pubs give 4 times as much to charity than do Dems.
Our message is what it is. We stand for what we believe to be right. If they don’t like our message, we don’t change our message. Right is still right. If our ship goes down, we’ll simply go down with it.
Our greatest weakness as a party is that it’s hard to stay righteous. That’s also why so many Jews become leftist. They want freedom to do all those things that their strict faith condemns. It’s why so many Catholics vote pro-abortion. It’s why the less religious you are, the more leftist you are. Left, in both senses, is not right. The more religious you are, the more you identify with conservative principles, the more right you are.
We believe that with this message, we appeal to all demographics, because in truth, there is only one demographic: The degree of one’s faith.

Most of the family in CALIFORNIA…..well they are not speaking to me right now, or left now for that matter! I have not bent over before the Messiah Obama! This is so simple! Obama bad for America! We can debate all night long, but I will not vote for anyone with so many ties to terrorist both here and over seas. Obama in office……… I will be moving to Honduras, Belize or some other small topical country. I will come back and rebuild after all the money is gone, everyone is poor, and we have some one that will fight for our COUNTRY!
Oh, yeah and if John McCain wins I hope that the left nuts in Hollyweird make good on their promises to LEAVE also! Wow, then we can rebuild, with people that love this country and will stand up for American, not bend over and take it for her!

A big replay of past violations and pogroms is about to start again if bama is elected. He will turn away from the Israeli pleas for help. He will leave the Jews high and dry in an ever increasing antagonistic middle east, all because the Iranians and Saudi’s, Syrians know that he will turn away. His associations and lack of publications re: birth certificate, grades, etc.,,, should be sufficient to turn off any reasonable person….. God help the Jews, God help us all.

Do you think Jordan, Egypt or even The Saudis are concerned about Israel, their nuclear neighbor for decades and good trading partners?
Who loves Obama? Hamas. Fatah. Iran. Hezbollah. They think it’s permission time. They smell the weak horse.
If Obama gets in, the region goes up in flames. Hopefully, Bush and Israel will do the right thing.
Oct 29, 2008 - 3:34 pm 44. Marina:It’s so sad, the Jerusalem Post still protects Obama. Although, and I read all the talk-backs, the readers have started as Hillary supporters and now support McCain 99%. Great news paper. Strange “American politics” editors. Today – another sad POS: Alan Dershowitz, the guy who stand up against Jimmy Carter’s “Israel: Holocaust, not self-defence”, this guy protects Obama-the-Carter’-pet.
1. How can Dersowitz do it? Anyway, if he really does, FFFFF….. him!
2. Why does the JP still try to persuade the American and the other English speaking Jews to vote for Obama? The whole blogosphere is full of the horrible quotations about Israel that Obama pronounced (?) on the event: “no G-d-given right”, “genocide of the Palestinian people by Israel”. I have no idea what the JP is doing. But the talk-backs are great: “We don’t buy it”, “We don’t buy it”, “NObama”, “NOway NObama”, etc.
3. GOOD NEWS N.1: Obama needs someone to protect him in front of the American Jews (= American Jews don’t believe him anymore!!!!!! GOOOOOOOD!)
4. GOOD NEWS N.2: Israel wants McCain. So much for change. That’t the “change you can believe in”.

Oct 29, 2008 - 6:15 pm 46. lee:I saw a picture of Hillary in today’s Financial Times. She was with Al Franken LOL. At least Hillary said she would obliterate Iran if it attacked Israel I have no faith in Obama protecting Israel.
Nobody in Asia is particularly sympathetic to Israel, and I’m fairly certain that’s true elsewhere in Europe. In fact, netizen communities in korea often view Israel as co consipirators in the war in Iraq or a US lackey.
Obama will probably rise to Israel’s defense if something DRASTIC occurs, but his policies will probably endanger that region.
Oct 29, 2008 - 6:24 pm 47. Ted Lawrence:But there are a couple of things you leave out. First anyone that knows politics in this country knows that it’s hard for an African American politician to be a supporter of Israel. Too much ethnic infighting. But Obama was way back when he was in the Illinois legislature. Second, politicians like Howard Berman and Ed Koch have talked about working with Barack on issues important to the future of Israel and say he is a strong supporter. Berman went so far as to say that in their time together in Congress he has always thought he and Senator Obama thought alike on foreign affairs. Dennis Ross who is Obama’s chief foreign policy advisor and has been mentioned as a possible Secretary of State is an unabashed supporter of Israel. To top it all off, Haaretz reported earlier this year that Israeli intelligence sources had advised their government that the biggest problem they could face in the next two years if Barack Obama was elected President was the possibility of a backlash because he was strongly Pro-Israel and a lot of activist on the left think it is just politics to win an election and they are not going to be happy when he shows he means it. Obama believes that America isn’t doing enough to build a broad coalition of countries to fight terrorism which is why he thinks it is important to express the confidence to agree to talk with anyone and that’s a debateable idea, but it’s a long way from being anti-Israel and the right wings attempt to imply thats where he stands is nothing but an attempt to manipulate well known tensions between ethnic communities.
Oct 29, 2008 - 7:34 pm 48. myth buster:Israel is important because rejecting Israel will invite the wrath of God. We are currently provoking God’s wrath enough as it is, without rejecting His chosen people, who are eternally marked with His promise and protected by His curse.

Judy, NYC:Israel is the world’s center of advanced technology, as a minor point, without whom we would not have the cell phone. isreali scientists discoveries and developments are the world’s most ingenious and innovative breakthroughs. for decades, israeli fighter pilots tested and improved every american military design. and, as we all know, turned a heap of crap sand into a thriving modern nation. israel was loaned money, not given it. and, it repaid every loan, unlike any other nation on earth. aid money is less to israel than is given to a sub saharan swamp of corruption. israel has been our friend because it is the only western democracy in the middle east. that was very important, when democracy was important to us. apparently, it is not so important to americans any longer. if benjamin netanyahu will become israel’s leader, netanyahu will take care of business, just as was done (btw) well before anyone or any nation state came to its aid. not even the red cross came (just as jews support obama they also donate to that organization). indeed, israel in its war for independence in 1948 was not even supplied from the outside with weapons. it is time for israel to stop these endless and fruitless negotiations and level any entity that threatens it. this is the time to do it. the united states will have its own war within to occupy itself. this whole contrived election is about placing a despot in the white house. and, while the distraction is, as usual, the jews and israel it hss far less to do with either, than it does with destruction of our american culture. the jews who vote obama believe it cannot happen here. jews are very logical and pragmatic as well as emotional. if it doesn’t make sense, they don’t believe it. why would a majority of americans elect obama, if they knew he would destroy us? we know he is a liar and a snake. we know he is the enemy, as are his sycophants, especially biden who seems either somewhat brain damaged, half drunk or wholly deranged most of the time. we know the nytimes, has become the head of the rabid media claque who lick obama around the clock. we know the faustian bargain has made it what the born-again nazis had in mind, a filthy pandering rag that now suddenly attracts a large majority of pro-hamas arab readers. we know the latimes refuses to release a tape in its possession that could make a presidential candidate unelectable. how can this be happening, while americans show up by the many thousands and cheer him on. it makes no sense. that is why so many jews don’t believe it. that’s why they’re voting obama.

Picking a President isn’t child’s play, yet B. Hussein Obama’s campaign insists on playing hide and seek. He hides the facts. We seek the truth.
Kyle Anne Shiver’s open letter details just how serious Barack’s run for President really is, its sobering ramifications, as she uncovers some bone chilling facts about the brown eyed handsome man.
To begin with, there’s the matter of Obama’s attendance in an Islamic grade school that denounced Judism when they skewered other religions and America when they roasted capitalistic countries. Obama has done a great job of hiding any smoking guns that may exist, proving his belief in Islam. A small number of Journalists continue to try to smoke out the truth.
Just how deep does Barack’s (how shall I put it?)disenchantment with Israel and everything Israeli go?
Well, this may provide an insight.
Barack Hussein, the LA Times and a large number of mainstream media are attempting to suppress a video tape showing Barack having dinner with terrorist, Bill Ayers and and Rashid Khalidi, PLO operative, as they reportedly toast and celebrate the hoped “Liquidation” of Israel and all who celebrate the Zionist “Gutter” religion. Fox news is seeking to expose the tape and the reasons why the Obama camp feels publication of the tape would, as David Axelrod reportedly puts it, “gravely wound our chances of winning on November 4, especially with “filthy rich”” voters. (At which point I can almost hear the laughter that probably was at the table.)
At the same time, Hussein desperately tried to hide his Blame-America-First, twenty year relationship with his pastor, Jeramy Wright. Kept denying it.
But Fox news uncovered video tape evidence of the hate-spewing; then Barack begrudgingly admitted the close relationship between the two men. Fox sought the truth, and the truth came out. That video tape was the equivalent of Monica Lewinsky’s DNA stained dress.
In much the same way, B. Hussein keeps trying to hide the details behind his longtime relationship with convicted felon, Tony Rezko, who allegedly greased Barack’s palms with hundreds of thousands of dollars in a home buying deal. Fox News is still trying to put the pieces together while the Chicago Tribune and Sun Times, cheerleaders for their hometown boy, steer clear of the partners in shady dealing.
But that’s not all, Hussein Obama, time and again, over a twenty year period has championed the idea of Socialist talking points, like “Redistribution of Wealth” which even Joe Biden admitted is a joke in a capitalist society like the U.S. Now Barack is hiding, not only the truth, but Joe Biden, his VP choice, from public view.
Additonally, whenever he gets the chance, Barack now publicly mocks Joe the Plumber, telling people he’s unlicensed which is a lie.
Is that the new kind of politics Barack is always yapping about? The politics of personal destruction?
That fateful day when Barack used the words, “Redistribution of Wealth” to Plumber Joe, Barack was criticized by a handful of honest media people for pushing his Socialist agenda. Now, though, Barack is trying to hide behind carefully chosen words, saying he didn’t really mean to say, “Redistribution of Wealth.”
Much like he didn’t ever hear Reverend Wright’s hate speech, didn’t know Tony Rezko was a crook, didn’t know Bill Ayers as anything but a guy who lived in the neighborhood, didn’t work with Acorn, the people who many believe are likely to be arraigned, tried and convicted for voter fraud.
The list of Barack’s “Didn’t know” excuses are as long as what one day may be Acorns future list of indictments. They’re making a mockery of all well intentioned Ohio buckeyes who believe fair and honest elections are the touchstone of what makes America great.
Unfortunately for B. Hussein Obama, apart from any scheme to redistribute votes, a tape came out last week confirming that “Redistribution of Wealth” is precisely the Socialist meal that Obama is preparing serve the American people who believe in capitalism. Chew on this America; if you elect Barack, Socialism is exactly what’ll be forced down your throats, with three Barack appointed left wing supreme
court justices serving as the plunger.
As his game of hide and seek continues, I believe that there is nothing Hussein Obama has tried harder to hide from the American public than his plan to remove the 1997 Homeowner Exemption which lets home sellers keep all of their profits up to a million dollars. Obama refuses to take a question about this while the mainstream media refuses to ask a question about this. This is Barack’s most closely hidden, dirtiest, in this reporter’s opinion, little secret of this campaign.
If you want to hand over to the government 30% of the money you someday sell your home for, hand over your vote to Hussein. If he’s elected, you may not be able to afford the trip to the polls.
Continuing on new Barack taxes, did you notice in the last two days how Obama has tried, with the complicity of the media, to hide Biden’s assertion that their definition of rich, has been lowered to $150.00? While on TV tonight, Barack pulled a Bill Clinton reportedly saying, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” when he looked at the camera and told the American people, “I did not ever say we’d raise taxes on people who make less than $200,000″. Which is fifty thousand less than he said two weeks ago and only fifty thousand away from the figure Joe Biden let slip two days ago. These are slippery guys. But when it comes to grabbing onto your hard earned money, their hands turn to sandpaper.
Hussein Obama’s campaign insists on playing fast and loose with the truth; or as I like to put it, hide and seek, not only with the truth, but also with your money. Just ask Joe the Plumber who smoked out Barack when they talked face to face. And Barack told Joe that this hard working plumber should share his wealth with people who refuse to put in Joe’s 12-14 hour days. Barack is lucky Joe didn’t flatten him like Obama wants to thin out Joe’s wallet.
Barack Hussein Obama can run. And talk a good game.
But, now that the American people are catching on to him, he can’t hide.

as a jew and an American, i never had a doubt about who I was voting for. Ling in America, my vote is for America first – for John McCain. Please don’t think that Jews vote as a bloc – we don’t. Most of my friends and family are voting the same as I, and those that aren’t, well, I have pity on their “righteous misguided indignation.” Thank you for this opportunity.
Oct 29, 2008 - 10:55 pm 59. Marc Malone:fred – You have a cyber-stalker? Weird.
All – I’m seeing more new posts and posters. I’m sensing new faith from them. The sense is out there that McCain may just pull this off. I’m also starting to see it in regular columns. Everyone’s starting to think, “Wa-a-ait a minute. Let’s take another look at this.”
Me, I’m connecting the dots. Obama runs into Joe. Biden opens his big mouth. Obama confirms Joe. Tape appears confirming Socialist views. Today, FOX had an exclusive release from Rasmussen that said that McCain is NOW, for the first time, more trusted on the economy! That’s doom for Obama. All he had going for him this whole campaign was the war, the economy, and healthcare. Not much left in his quiver. McCain has a new message, new info, and new developments! It’s resonating!

Oct 30, 2008 - 6:11 am 62. Robert Hurley:Khalidi and the PLO
By Ron Kampeas on Oct 30, 2008 in Barack Obama, John McCain | ShareThis
Starting in 1988, intermittently at first and then routinely from the launch of the Oslo talks in 1993, U.S. presidents have waived bans on contacts with the Palestine Liberation Organization.
President Bush continued to do so even as he isolated its leader Yasser Arafat; he expressly sought to marginalize Arafat so he could cultivate moderates in the organization and the movement.
This extends to the group’s mission in Washington D.C. The idea is that U.S. officials need to communicate with the group in order to sustain credible U.S. involvement in the region.
Now, however, in the dying, damning days of an election campaign, we’ve somehow been DeLoreaned back to the 1980s and contact with the group has become radioactive, even though the Israeli government, with full Bush administration blessing, is scrambling to come to a peace agreement with Mahmoud Abbas, who is still the PLO’s leader.
And so, Rashid Khalidi’s status as a former PLO spokesman has been repeatedly used against his friend Barack Obama. (I know there’s more to it than this: The McCain campaign wants the Los Angeles Times to release the tape of the 2003 Khalidi dinner to see whether the honoree said anything incendiary about Israel. A quick pan back to Barack and Michelle, nodding vigorously and fist-jabbing, would be icing on that cake.)
The problem with the “spokesman” claim is that you can actually prove it’s not true. In saner times, “prove it’s not true” would be a phrase frowned on in an innocent until proven guilty culture. Khalidi’s denial would be enough in the face of a lack of evidence as to same. Those promoting the claim cite a single 1982 article by Tom Friedman; Khalidi says Friedman got it wrong, and that the term “PLO spokesman” was used promiscuously in 1982 Beirut.
But like I said, things ain’t so sane.
So here’s the thing: What everyone acknowledges is that Khalidi was an adviser to the Palestinian delegation to the 1991 Madrid talks. That delegation – to a person – could not have had any formal affiliation with the PLO. Israel regarded the group as terrorist and its laws banned contact with its members; then-Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir made NOT being affiliated with the PLO it a condition of Israel’s agreement to participate. The names of the Palestinian team would have been vetted by Israeli intelligence.
This was something of a nudge and a wink, of course: Faisal Husseini, who headed the team, was in constant contact with PLO headquarters in Tunis.
Still, it should put to rest the notion that Khalidi was ever a “spokesman” for the group.
“Seventeen years ago,” once upon a time, didn’t mean ancient history; one would expect older members of the McCain team to remember what was, at the time, a critical step in getting the sides to Madrid. The younger folks I can forgive and educate (Michael Goldfarb, consider yourself educated.)
Oct 30, 2008 - 9:27 am 63. Zbigniew Mazurak:The Israelis actually support Obama over McCain, but that’s nothing strange, Israel is a socialist state just like most Western European countries. The only countries in the world where Obama does not lead by an absolute majority are Poland, Georgia and Tokelau.
Oct 30, 2008 - 9:36 am 64. Zbigniew Mazurak:“I traded my chocolate chip cookies to a third grader for his promise of a new pencil sharpener at recess.”
Kyle-Anne, you should’ve never traded any actual things for any promises. Promises are not the same as actual goodies. What you’ve done is giving him these cookies for nothing in return.
As for Hitler, he was elected by gullible Germans, but not before protectionist policies created an economic misery (as protectionist measures ALWAYS do). Sadly, Obama also believes in protectionism, and therefore, an Obama Administration would implement protectionist measures worldwide, and therefore, it could, if elected, propel a Nazi to a political office.
Oct 30, 2008 - 9:43 am 65. TCompton:What is the Obama promise?
Ask Joe The Plumber–who had the termerity to ask Obama a question and was investigated by Obama state government officials and Obama supporters who pulled his files, and was ridiculed in the media.
Ask the Philadelphia and Florida tv reporters who asked direct questions and found their stations blacklisted–without a whisper of disagreemnt from Obama.
Ask the TV stations threatened with lawsuits by Obama’s campaign if they ran an ad from the NRA.
Ask his Los Angeles supporters who seems to think hanging Palin in effigy was both funny and quite normal. (No rebuke from Obama)
Ask people who are working hard for their future, who will be taxed to “spread their income around” to people who don’t pay taxes or even work.
Ask Harry Reid who thought the war in Iraq was lost and would have run.
Ask Obama himself who was ready to run–and god only knows what that would have brought on from those who stab at “falling camels”.
Ask the sneering media, who know that people that don’t think like them are too stupid to be entrusted with news. They must be told what to think.
Ask the LA Times: they’ll publish national security secrets, stolen papers, and purloined tapes of govenor Schwarzzeneger: but discovered an obligation to preserve the confidentiality of a taped dinner party with Obama.
McCain is indeed “too slow” to tolerate this type f behavior. He would never consider it.
I join the man that said the Obama campaign is becoming “creepy,” in its arrogance and behavior.

Oct 30, 2008 - 11:05 am 68. Jinny:Rachel Peepers, huh? Zbigniew, Hitler? You both demonstrate the very absurdity that turns off “regular” voters and make them run towards Obama….or away from you. I am voting for McCain and beleive that Israel is our greatest friend. Obama deserves deep criticsm for his economic, social and foreign policies-which will hurt America and Americans. But please keep this vitriolic animus away from normal Americans who need to hear the truth about why they should vote for McCain. This idiotic rhetoric is why Obama is leading in the polls and this isnt helping McCain win at all. McCains recent attacks on Obama’s economic policies is a winning strategy and is getting traction. As soon as you start talking about his birth certificate or insinuate that someone who is not a Christian is somehow prohibited from being President of the U.S.(as well as saying other stuff that lacks intellectual content), normal people tune you out and incorrectly assume you have no other positive reasons to vote for McCain and it’s hurting him.
Oct 30, 2008 - 11:43 am 69. hater:this letter is a fallacy.
Oct 30, 2008 - 1:14 pm 70. Believer:Apparently, Shep Smith revealed his bias or perhaps, naivete. I only saw a clip of it at “Maggie’s Notebook.” He added his own thoughts at the end of the interview.
He’s willing to take Obama at his word, it seems. That Obama will protect Israel. Now that’s certainly more than I can do. Goodness. Has he ever told the truth?
On air, he grilled Joe the Plumber who’d answered a man at a rally with “I’d have to agree with you.” The question to Joe was, “Might an Obama presidency be the death of Israel?” Answering Smith, Joe encouraged citizens to do research to arrive at their own conclusions. I think that’s good advice. But Smith fretted that Joe’s agreement with the man at the rally would lead to ‘trouble’ should Obama be elected.
I think Smith should do some investigating himself. He might find the answer to his question, “Joe, do you know where Obama stands on Israel?” He might find Obama has been on both sides of the issue — depending on who his audience is. No, Shep we can’t be sure of anything with Obama.
But from what I know of the man, I’ll add one more that’ll probably have you shaking your head again: An Obama presidency might be the death of America as well.
Those are our opinions, Shep. We still have a right to them. But we might not for long should The One be elected. Just ask someone in your line of work, Barbara West. She’s out of a job now because she asked Joe Biden the wrong question. Too bad. Because she was doing the work too many in your profession have failed to do over the past two years.

Oct 30, 2008 - 1:26 pm 73. Jeff B.:Obama is not anti-Semitic. He’s just not a Zionist who puts the security of Israel above the U.S. There is a difference. The last thing Jews or Israel wants is fairness for Palestinians as they steal their land. As for Dems weakening national security, defense spending was cut in the 90s because the Cold War had ended. Thanks to Bush, we have restarted it with bitter relations with the Soviets and China as well as the rest of the world. If you call doubling the national debt from $5 trillion to $10 trillion under the Republicans strengthening national security, you are sadly mistaken. The U.S. military is so strained right now that the will or financial backing does not exist to even contemplate another war.
Oct 30, 2008 - 2:05 pm 74. Believer:Wow. Well, we know this Khalidi video really has Team BO worried. It will sink BO if it gets out. And they know it.
Websites are being swamped with their panicked reactions. No, we won’t put aside our common sense.
Obama is in trouble. It’s really quite obvious. After some $600million, he hasn’t closed the deal. And it’s far more likely he’s lagging behind McCain in the polls if you believe one Team BO defector. She says they skew the polls.
I’ve no doubt he’s contaminated the poll results.
Every bit as much as he’s contaminated his campaign funds.
Every bit as much as he’s contaminated voter registration cards.
Every bit as much as he’s contaminated voting ballots.
Every bit as much as he’s contaminated the hearts and minds of the followers who do his bidding.
Not one good thing has this man ever done for another person without it helping himself at least as much. Ask his aunt in Boston. She’s about as bad off as his brother in Kenya. And has been shown as much care and concern by BO. ZERO.
“I am my brother’s keeper.” Only in his mind.
Oct 30, 2008 - 2:13 pm 75. Chris F.:Israel will be protected no matter who is president. Mr. Bush was untested but at first he did a good job until he drug us into the Iraq war based on lies. I get sick of hearing the lies of people about being untested. Abraham Lincoln and Kennedy were also untested and then did good jobs but I guess people just want to spread fear and lies just to get McCain into the White House. The scarier thing would be if McCain died and Caribou Barbie took over that would be scarier. I would like to know Palin’s “true” feeling on Israel expecially since she belongs to a church that blames the Jewish people for Jesus’s death. I have been too church and heard these types of sermons, oops hope I never run for office against a Republican they would make a big deal out of this..
Oct 30, 2008 - 2:45 pm 76. Richard Vils:One question: when people pretend to support Israel and yet say only true Christians should be voted in as the USA president, are they not precluding all American Jews, many of whom have dual citizenship?
I think only a USA president who truly makes the Israelis and Palestinians sit down and have a meaningful, substantive dialogue that leads to a lasting peace, is the true friend of Israel. Look at how miserably the Bush doctorine flopped due to lack of vision or honesty. Most Israelis are tired of fighting a never-ending war.
Peepers, do you truly expect to win over any thinking person with this your ranting? Its the same tired and old poison and people can see through it all. God Bless the USA.

Oct 30, 2008 - 3:23 pm 78. Annie:I appeal to all voters for the truth. The Democrats are sexist and flat out mean. They destroyed Hillary a woman. Then they try to destroy Palin. The left wing lesbians and gays want to destroy any normal woman so they can promote their agenda. They want to destroy marriage and Christian beliefs. Before communists can take over they have to destroy morals and family then religion. Obama and the democrats are anti American communists. Look at cuba and third world countries this is what Obama offers
Oct 30, 2008 - 4:19 pm 79. Believer:#59 – Marc Malone mentioned what’s really big news —
McCain is trusted now more on the economy! And well he should be — that one never made sense to me. Finally, Americans are paying attention.
I’d heard it also, along with this: Jack Welch, former CEO of GE, today said he couldn’t imagine ANY business owner voting for Obama.
McCain does have the right approach to righting our economy — cut taxes, cut spending in government and veto pork-barrel laden bills. And create new jobs as Palin helps lead us to energy independence — no more $700billion going to our enemies. Keep it here at home.
We must be sure we have Republicans in Congress who’ll help get drilling started. The market will take off again when Wall Street and investors are reassured we have McCain in the White House.
Obama seems to destroy everything he touches. It’s the failed policies, the greed, power and corruption that he’s drawn to. A product of a childhood that ignored the teaching of character and integrity – instead it was one steeped in illegal, immoral behavior. This was the ugly influence of Frank M. Davis on Obama. And his own grandfather may have been equally culpable.
It’s no wonder he’s wrong on Israel. Khalidi and Co. are to be toasted by him just as Farrakhan was to be honored by Wright. He doesn’t recognize evil — instead, he embraces it. If you’re not taught what is evil when you’re young, how are you to recognize it when you’re grown?
America needs leaders worthy of her — those who know good from evil — those who love Israel and will defend her from evil.
Oct 30, 2008 - 4:50 pm 80. mattchew:i have not seen nor heard a single thing from the Obama campaign that indicates he would be anything but a defender of Israel. I get the feeling that if one makes ANY criticism of Israel, they are feared and called anti-semitic. Enough. He may be a “leftist’s leftist” but he is not stupid (imagine that, someone running for president who is smart and educated). What would it serve Obama as President of the US to weaken its ties with Israel? Why would he do that as leader of the free world? Hysteria, thy name is Republican. That’s how you get elected…make the masses nervous, prejudiced and reactive. They have had an eight year run and is Israel any better off for it? I think not. And beware of the Christian fundamentalists who say they are on your side…they just need you to be in the “Holy Land” for the second coming so that all the Israelis that don’t convert to Chrisitanity will be cast into eternal damnation. Jews need to be there for this to happen. Ah, Religion, the eternal sower of hatred.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 30, 2008
EXIT POLLS INDICATE STRONG SUPPORT FOR MCCAIN BY AMERICAN VOTERS IN ISRAEL
Results Based on Data From 817 Absentee Voters
(Jerusalem, Israel) In a poll commissioned by Votefromisrael.org (VFI), an independent and non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting voter registration and participation amongst American citizens living in Israel, 76 percent of polled American voters in Israel reported that they had voted for John McCain for President. The poll, which was conducted by KEEVOON, a Jerusalem-based Research firm, was based upon data from 817 voters who attended US Election events in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv organized by VFI combined with on-line surveys.
“The margin was interesting because it was so broad-based,” said pollster Mitchell Barak, director of KEEVOON. “It was not just New York, and not just Republicans voting for McCain. His support was pretty consistent across the board demographically and geographically among the different States, among Americans who now live in Israel permanently and among those here temporarily.”
Less than one in four of the voters were registered Republicans. In fact, a full half of voters were Independents or not registered with either party—groups that favored McCain by a slightly wider 79%-21% margin. Among registered Democrats, McCain made significant inroads, with 46% of Democrats crossing party lines to vote for McCain. By contrast, the Republican crossover to Obama was minimal—just 2%.
The poll respondents also rated the candidates in terms of whether they had a “favorable” or “unfavorable” impression of the candidates for President and Vice President. 80% of those polled had a favorable impression of McCain, while just 32% had a favorable impression of Obama. In fact, over 50% of respondents had an “extremely unfavorable” impression of Obama. Among the candidates for Vice President, Senator Joe Biden scored a 32% favorable rating, and Governor Sarah Palin 54%.
Voters answered poll questions regarding the issues they considered most important, as well as which candidate they thought more capable of handling a host of issues. More than half of the respondents listed foreign policy (including Israel policy) as the most important factor influencing their vote.
In response to the question of which candidate they thought most capable of handling various issues, voters considered McCain the most capable in handling the U.S. economy (67%-33%), dealing with Iran (81%-19%), managing the Iraq war and terrorism (79%-21%), and handling foreign policy including Israel-related issues (81%-19%).
The potential threat from a nuclear Iran was of concern to these voters. Nearly two-thirds were “very concerned” by the Iranian threat, with 93% agreeing that a nuclear Iran would be a threat to the United States.
Oct 31, 2008 - 3:15 am 84. Zbigniew Mazurak:BTW, 2 more things:
1) I’d like to thank KA Shiver for writing this article, which is related to defence – the most important issue that exists. This issue is dear to my heart, and I believe that anyone who weakens the military of America or conspires to do so is a traitor.
Oct 31, 2008 - 9:34 am 85. Rick Goodman:2) I’d like to thank John McCain for airing military-related ads in Virginia. I’m surprised that he has started airing them so late in the campaign, but better late than never. (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/oct/31/mccain-targets-obamas-plans-to-cut-spending/)
McCain should produce even more ads like this one, and air them in other pro-military swing states, too. (In OH and FL, for example.) Defending the USA is the most important duty of the USFG and of all other Americans. This issue did not receive as much attention from American politicians as it deserved, but I’m glad McCain has aired this ad.
Only an idiot would believe Obama will stand by Isreal
Oct 31, 2008 - 9:41 am 86. Lee:Why should my tax dollars go to the defense of Israel? Don’t they have a military. For far too long the U.S has been kissing Israel you know what at the detriment of foreign policy. Terrible things have happened in Israel and to Jews. No question. But to suggest that the Jews and Israel are constantly right and the Palestinians wrong is just silly. We need a person in the white house who will listen to both sides, not just one jaded religion’s view.
Oct 31, 2008 - 1:22 pm 87. Marc Malone:Lee – I have no interest in talking to the “palestinians” until they amend their constitution. From the beginning, it has included the requirement of the destruction of Israel and the Jews. They are not interested in compromise, as they’ve stated again and again.
How many times have the Arabs attacked Israel? How many times have they broken their treaties? How many times has Israel given up captured territory for peace? The problem is NOT Israel! Only ignorance of the motives of the Arabs allows such appeasing thinking.
We support Israel because it is simply the right thing to do. We did not fight WWII to liberate the Jews from the camps, but when we found the camps, we discovered a great evil. We resolved to never let that happen again.
Nov 1, 2008 - 2:50 am 88. vivo:The Jewish (the “chosen people”) and the Arabs have been fighting for 5,000 years. They have to fix their mess. Since their money and influence are concentrated in the USA, that’s why we are so involved. Is there a solution to their problem?
