This lady lost me when the day after 9/11 or close to
it, she was asked how she handled the stress and she
had a big smile and said " Great Sex"
Well, I am glad she never got too involved in the
whole disaster.
What she did I care nothing about, but when there are
people all around America and the world hurting beyond
speaking, I think herflipping that out was so darn low class.

[...] Barbara Walters , icon of TV journalism, has published an autobiography in which she boasts about all of her promiscuous and adulterous relationships. There was a time–in fact, it was Barbara Walters’ generation!–in which people, especially women, were ashamed of their sexual transgressions and didn’t want them to come out in the open. Now, they dish about them on talk shows, with no sense of losing respectability. This shift is culturally significant: it isn’t a matter of violating norms anymore. There are no norms to violate. [...]

I'm thinking it's more narcissism than greed. Why bother thinking about how my actions affect others when I'm getting so much out of it?

In the case of Walters, her revelation is timed perfectly. Especially for her liberal friends.

As they all pat themselves on the back, feeling morally superior to those racists who won't vote for a black man, she's topped them with this: "You're voting for one? Well, sister, that's nothing: I've slept with one! And it wasn't just yesterday, you know. It was THIRTY years ago. And not just any old black man, mind you; he had his own share of power and charm..."

There may very well have been other indiscretions she could have revealed. She chose this one for a very good - and self-serving - reason. Too bad if it leaves others hurting. She's feeling awfully special right now.

I'm not planning on reading the book, but her constant media appearances made me curious about one thing. Could all the "bad guys" in the book that didn't approve of a woman in the newsroom have really been disapproving of her behavior in her private life?

Brooke was a hound dog and Walters was just one of many. And she seems to be proud of that. I didn't think it was possible but my opinion of her is even lower.

With deep regrets I cannot afford to purchase her tell-all book, but could some one in the higher income bracket tell me whether she reveals any sexual dalliances with Gaddafi, Castro, Chavez? They all evidently saw her fawning avaibility and vulnerability in their interviews, openly trying to hit on her before the cameras. For example, with the Chavez interview, she asked about his singleness, and he said, "Well, you know I am a man with blood pumping through me." Then the mike went off. There was a break in the interview. Afterwards she gushed about his passion, his sensitivity to humankind, his love for humanity, and how tragically he is misunderstood. My dear! Whatever went on there?

I understand many brilliant journalists have to make deep personal sacrifices to, say get under the skin of their subjects. Walters should be commended for going beyond the average journalist in this respect to bring us the truth..

Jabli hit the nail on the head. America is not hated for our President or our freedoms. America is hated because of the way Hollywood and the Media portray our country. When you give visibility and a microphone to those of low moral character, like Barbara, other people perceive Americans as animals seeking nothing but sexual gratification. Our media is also the reason American women cannot walk the streets or ride the public transportation in the Far East without being groped. Japanese men honestly belief American women are like they are portrayed in the movies.
