Climate of Fear Spreads In California Mosques
The arrest of a man with suspected ties to al-Qaeda has many Muslims worried — about the FBI.
Charitable contributions at Southern California mosques are down by as much as 30% to 50% over the last few years. Blame the climate of fear.
That’s what Rafe Husain, a board member for the Islamic Center of Corona Norco, is doing. “People feel tense and uncomfortable,” Husain is quoted as saying in a recent Los Angeles Times article. Just another story about the woeful recession we currently find ourselves in? Mosque-goers are feeling jittery about their dwindling 401k accounts and have decided to fork over less money to the needy? Not quite.
What’s got some L.A.-area Muslims in a cold sweat is the recent revelation that the FBI planted a spy in Orange County mosques. Also troubling the Muslim community are the FBI’s interrogations about charitable contributions. Apparently the agents’ tactics are terrifying — at least to the people who find law enforcement officials “asking why were they donating and who was receiving their money” particularly fear-inducing.
Yet again we have a story about Muslims in America upset about efforts to root out the violent extremists in their midst. In fact, the FBI has a good reason to quiz Muslims about their donations. As the Times’ article points out, at least six major Muslim charity organizations have been shut down by the FBI since 9/11 because of involvement in terrorist financing. And just this past November, five former leaders of the Holy Land Foundation, a Dallas-based charity, were convicted of providing more than $12 million to Hamas. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which calls itself the largest Muslim “civil rights” group in the country, was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the case. As a result, the FBI finally severed ties with CAIR after several unfruitful years of trying to work with the organization.
How are other Muslim organizations responding to the news of the FBI’s long overdue decision not to work with CAIR? The Times reports that the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California, an umbrella group of Southern California mosques, protested by suspending its contacts with the FBI. Meanwhile, the senior advisor of the Muslim Public Affairs Council in Los Angeles says, “Unless the FBI’s style changes, the partnership with the Muslim community will not be fruitful.” In other words, the FBI could use another “sensitivity training” workshop from CAIR.

1. Blackwater:I’d be hesitant too to donate to Christian charities if I had a justified fear that some of that money would be sent to Christian terrorist organizations. In fact I would have left the religion by now or become an informant for the government in order to bring down their evil. But I guess most muslims don’t share my same level of national patriotism and disgust in religiously motivated violence.
A lot of these muslim organizations, which many on the left think are “mainstream” moderate muslim advocacy groups who are working to create peace and understanding, are really fronts for the muslim brotherhood and other extremist islamist groups who openly call for the tearing down and violent overthrow of Western civilization and advocate islamic supremism.
And they also advocate demographic jihad with the same goals of al qaeda of destroying the West from within through evangelism and immigration. I hate to say it but I flat out don’t trust islamic organizations and never will unless they clearly show signs of enlightment and reform which frankly I’ve rarely seen. I can barely find any muslims individuals that advocate islamic reform and modernity.
At the end of the day islam is just a horrible religion. How can the world ever accomodate a religious faith which fundamentally advocates military conquest of non-muslims and the forcing of an oppressive religious social and legal system over the entire world? I don’t think we can ever find compromise with islamic civilization. It’s just too extreme, fanatical and violent. We must greatly increase secularization efforts in the islamic world.
We should study how Western and Northern Europe became secularized and implement a similar strategy in the middle east and elsewhere. It’s a peaceful solution and ultimately it will help them progress and benefit tremendously. We simply have to seperate islam from politics in the muslim world or it will continue to be an ugly story of interaction between islamists and the rest of the international community.
Mar 3, 2009 - 2:31 am 2. canuck:Ah, so many cards to play. The victim card, the race card, the religion card. Which one will we do first?
This boils down to the fact that Muzzies are not rooting out the trash within their midst. If you lay down with dogs, soon you will all smell like dog feces…or pig crap.
They should worry that one of these terrorist might bring a bomb to the mosque or store his C3 in the basement and it accidentally goes off while the good little Muzzies are getting Saudi terrorist instruction.
Mar 3, 2009 - 2:53 am 3. gordo 12:The US has laws on the books, but never enforced, in regards to a religious organizations non profit status. All the mosques in America have hate speech and overt retoric about the conquest of the infadels( code for Christians and Jews ). This action allows the US to take away the mosques non profit status. Therefore they will have to pay taxes on donations and property. This puts a bite into their free ride.
However, as noticed in the presidential run off, Obama’s “church” was spewing the same type of retoric as the mosques, and the laws did not protect us.
Heck Al Capone was arrested on tax evasion, do these mosque pose less of a threat than he did?
We are afraid to force their hands and they know it.

Mar 3, 2009 - 5:54 am 8. AJ:God pays back. They attack the countries that fed them billions and now have cash flow problems.
Christian terrorists?
Mar 3, 2009 - 6:04 am 9. Canuckistani:Your comment is pretty good, sir, but that’s a ridiculous statement. What’s next, jewish terrorists, Helem Thomas?
The Mohammedans don’t trust the police? Well, neither does the mob. Why? Because the FBI is listening too closely and watching the inner workings. What does this tell us?
Mar 3, 2009 - 6:05 am 10. CFOX:I don’t see the difference between the Holy Land foundation gathering donations (12 mil) and sending them to Hamas, and our own government sending 900 million to Hamas to help rebuild. Seems hypocritical…
Mar 3, 2009 - 6:38 am 11. Camaron:Good for the FBI. The Muslims have proven track record using mosques as centers of terrorism, and that is where our law enforcement must concentrate on. Should feelings get hurt in the process – too bad.
Don’t aid and abet terror and, I’m certain, the FBI will leave you alone. You are well off in America, why the jihad? Why the hate?
Mar 3, 2009 - 6:55 am 12. jjkrn:a gutter “religion” that has no place in a democratic society….we will rue the day we let these facists into our great land…..what about the open training camps being set up in our midst….jesus h christ…..evil..evil….facist …i have spent years in the middle east…evil people…make no mistake about their aims….you do at your peril..been there..seen it..didn’t get a t-shirt
Mar 3, 2009 - 7:16 am 13. Dana:I don’t share the Muslims’ fear of the FBI.My fear is that the principal concern of the Muslim community seems to be that when the terrorists that it shelters kill people, Muslims will be blamed for it.That ought to be a concern for many people.
Mar 3, 2009 - 7:59 am 14. Michael Canzano:Finally, some good news about Islam. Their religion casts fear on everyone including its members. Now they cry fear because the FBI has infiltrated their Mosques in order to protect our Nation from their hate and plans to take over the Planet and impose 7th century barbarism on everyone.
Mar 3, 2009 - 8:03 am 15. Camaron:I stick to my guns and the simple truth …”An addition of Muslims to a Nation is a subtraction in civilization.”
American Christian Infidel

I blogged about their reaction today:
“Infiltrating mainstream mosques the way FBI informants infiltrate white supremacist groups illustrates the FBI’s perception of American Muslims as a community that must be constantly monitored, instead of being treated as an equal partner in fighting crime and terrorism,” according to the statement.”
Mar 3, 2009 - 8:25 am 16. Andrea:No Muslims please. If they are peaceful let them stand up and denounce the radicals with voice and money! Let them stand with the rest of the world to defeat the evil within. Otherwise, move out of my country!
Mar 3, 2009 - 9:40 am 17. Sara123:Inside the mosques is the only place where the FBI is going to find out what is going on with jihad in the US. Wherever muslims are, police agencies have “members” within mosques. That includes countries that are majority muslim. Wonder why?!
Mar 3, 2009 - 9:56 am 18. Paul M Hupf:Islam has its militant element, moreso than any other religious group. This element holds the view that its members are not subject to the laws of the community in which they live, but rather its rules override. This can only mean that the militant element of Islam not only will impose its rules on its members, but will seek to impose them on United States citizens whether believers in Islam or not.
Mar 3, 2009 - 9:58 am 19. Don Rhudy:You’ll notice that rarely do so-called moderate Muslims report what goes on in their mosques, and what goes on there is hatred for America, Freedom, and Libery. We need more agents in more mosques, and fewer Muslims in America. A religion that purports to rule the world in the way Islam does is a religion to be feared and destroyed.
Mar 3, 2009 - 10:02 am 20. Ruebacca:Mohammad killed thousands and robed thousands more. The teachings of Islam are barbaric. Islam does not prepare a person to live in a respectful fation with others. These people are the enemy of free-people everyware.
Mar 3, 2009 - 10:15 am 21. Nisky:Why on the world that they’re so dumb to know that Islamic teaching
Mar 3, 2009 - 10:52 am 22. Kirly:are and was violent don’t they read Koran in the mosque that professes annihilation and subjugation of non Muslim faith, by the way they don’t hate America they love America they just hate the people in it, by way statistic going like in Europe we are a goner.
giving $12 million to Hamas is a crime? what then, is giving $900 million?
Mar 3, 2009 - 10:53 am 23. CFOX:@22- Kirly, I asked the same thing @10. The FBI should be investigating the regime in power. They are in bed with the radical muslims. Be afraid.

Mar 3, 2009 - 2:35 pm 30. Moogie:#10-CFOX, I also blogged about this yesterday. What people fail to understand is that the Islamic extremists don’t think of us as human. They call Christians “monkeys” and Jews “pigs.” Our current administration is so off-track with the War on Terror that they look like foolish patsies to the terrorists. Sadly, my tax dollars, as well as yours, are included in that $900 billion “donation” (Hillary actually called it that).
For the past 8 years we have been wondering why the moderate Moslems are not speaking out. I would say they are either in mortal fear for their lives, or they support the jihad.
The current economic crunch as distracted our leaders and taken their eyes off the brutality of the jihad. Remember, these “muslims” slice off people’s head and video record it with pride.
Mar 3, 2009 - 3:13 pm 31. Scott:University of California at Irvine, in Orange County, has one of the most radical Mulsim “student” groups in the country. They regularly hold demos on campus with the most vile and disgusting accusations against Jews and Israel. They also call for the destruction of the US and for it to be subject to Islamic “law”.
The truth is Jewish students at UCI are afraid of these people. A Muslim “cleric” from Oakland periodically appears on campus to call for death to Jews and the subjugation of America to the barbarous, backward, primitive “law” of Islam.
No, No, and NO, dammit! I hope the FBI scares the crap out of these people. I hope the FBI, DHS, the CIA and the NSA monitor them, track them, sting them, and, hopefully, either jail or deport them for sedition, defamation, and the threat of great bodily harm if not murder.
Enough is enough. These thugs have no claim to “freedom” when they espouse a “religion” that is no more than a death cult dedicated to destroying all that we in the West hold dear.
Mar 3, 2009 - 3:41 pm 32. ChrisLA:I urge all the Pajamas Media readers to go back and read the entire LA Times article. Yes, there were Muslims who felt intimidated by FBI informants — and probably for good reasons. But at the end of the article two Muslims said 1) they themselves would report suspicious behavior to authorities, and 2) authorities can come any time they want, to listen or anything. They had nothing to hide.
So there are Muslims and mosques which apparently have something to hide, and other Muslims and mosques which have nothing to hide. Some Muslims just want to worship in peace. All of us need to keep this in mind when wielding our sometimes rather wide paintbrush.
Mar 3, 2009 - 4:32 pm 33. Leatherneck:Wide paintbrush? The only extremists within Islam are the moderate individuals you give two examples of ChrisLA. The majority of Muslims follow Mohamed, and deliver Islam by the threat of force. They are the true followers of Islam, not the examples you cited.
I am willing to bet the American public understand the threat of Islam more than the CFR pink panty wearing fools within our government.
Just look at Britan. Something wicked this way comes!
Mar 3, 2009 - 4:46 pm 34. Oscar the Grump:I love it. I hope that they are really intimidated.
UCI now stands for University of California (Iran). Its a really scary place with these goons coming in and ranting at everyone.

Mar 3, 2009 - 5:16 pm 35. uburoisc:I have it from a pretty solid authority that at many of the mosques in OC, the Shi’as, during Ashura, flagellate and whip and cut themselves just like their nutcase brethren in Iran and Iraq. My informer told me that they try very hard to conceal what goes on with all the blood and self-torture, because it would cause the people in the US to think they were completely insane.
Mar 3, 2009 - 5:30 pm 36. Rockmelon:We are infiltrating mosques all over the country. In fact, there’s a lot going on that we don’t know about. I think the ploy is to allow Muslims to believe they are going about their business unnoticed. When the mosques and hate mongering muslims (intentionally not capitalizing) go down, it will be a huge sweeping housecleaning.
BTW…I was talking to the Angel Gabriel the other day and he told me to spread the word that any muslim who commits suicide on April 1, 2009, will get twice as many virgins who will bear daughters who will be eligible to marry at age 6. Good deal if you are a muslim.
Mar 3, 2009 - 6:41 pm 37. Judy, NYC:these islamic crazies are a boil on the neck of america. like a boil, all we want them to do is go away. they love it here because they can crap in public and get an audience.
knowing nothing about americans they don’t know we loved flagpole sitters during the last great depression and will watch almost anything, actually anything, if it is momentarily entertaining enough and peppered with excitement. a big draw for us until we yawn, scratch and drift away.
soon, our president, pragmatist that he is, will send more than one government agency, and squeeze them out. watch out for exploding pus. that is how these putrids will be remembered, if at all. with disgust.

There may be some of them doubting their own faith. The “fear of the FBI” may be just an excuse to stop donating. Remember, they can’t actually leave their church without fear of being killed as apostate.
Mar 3, 2009 - 7:51 pm 40. Jewel:Thus spake the Canuck:
“Ah, so many cards to play. The victim card, the race card, the religion card. Which one will we do first?”
It is getting harder for them in the Greatest Satan on Earth to play their meager hands, since we are now all of us counting cards.
Mar 3, 2009 - 8:30 pm 41. Gary:While I am not comparing Christian charities to anything Islamic, trust me when I say that christian charities do a lot of fairly dubious stuff in poor countries in trying to “save souls.” It would not count as terrorism etc. but it is something many Christians would be incredibly ashamed of. I am speaking from first hand knowledge of the kind of activities that are funded by Christian charities in third world countries, far from the eyes of the West. They literally force people to convert by offering them (the equivalent) of a few dollars. Again, I have seen this with my own eyes. I was also a Christian at one point (I am now Buddhist).
Mar 3, 2009 - 9:29 pm 42. Scott M:This why right-thinking Americans are ever suspicious of Muslims. When confronted with suggestions of “radicals” in their midst Muslims’ first reaction seems to be to complain about how the radicals were discovered and preemptively complain about some backlash.
Mark Steyn’s mentioned the perfect cartoon summary of how the Muslims run this game as suggested in an imagined headline:
“Muslim community fears backlash for tomorrow’s train bombing.”
Muslims remind me of the Liberals. They are beligerantly self-pitying. First they pretend to be victims, often of problems they caused, and then they use theor victim status as club to beat the rest of us out of our liberties. If 1 billion Muslims really did think the radicals were hijacking their religion they would have already filled every tip line and police precinct with tips on radicals in their midst.
Remember, when any Muslim claims America or The West is waging war on Islam or all Muslims they have accepting the viewpoint of the jihadists. I’d treat Muslims like I’d treat communists party members during the 1940s and 1950s. The Left sure does, they give aid and comfort for America’s enemies.
Mar 4, 2009 - 2:21 am 43. Miko:Islam is NOT a religion but a complete system. It has legislative, judicial, military, educational and reigious branches. Everytime a mosque opens up here in this great nation we are letting the seed of a foreign government take root. Too many seedlings are sprouting and this has to stop to ensure the survival of civilization.
Mar 4, 2009 - 3:14 am 44. moderationist:Climate of “fear”? Or climate of “fear of the truth”? Muslims are terrified of the truth.
Mar 4, 2009 - 4:05 am 45. Peter the Bubblehead:Concerning Scott @ #31 and Oscar @ #34’s comments;
Why, when these so-called ‘clerics’ and the muslim students start making threats to kill jews on campus, can they not be arrested for making such threats?
I’m sure if I walked around on a college campus, particularly one where I was not a student, and started yelling threats against various racial and/or religious groups, I would not be walking off campus but be driven, handcuffed, in the back of a police cruiser.
Why can’t the other students merely file complaints against these hate groups and their demonstrations?
Mar 4, 2009 - 4:55 am 46. Scott:Peter 45: Jihad Watch has been reporting on the goings on at UC Irvine for a long time. Nothing ever seems to happen. Jewish students have complained to the university adminstration, but nothing has been done.
Up where I am, San Francisco State University is continuing to persecute college Republicans for “defaming” Islam by having students walk on a Hamas flag. Because the flag has a written form of “Allah” on it, that constitutes defaming Islam. Last time I checked, that was called free speech. Pro-Palestinian students, meanwhile, have burned both American and Israeli flags with no action taken against them. Jewish students put up a Hillel display on campus, and it was mobbed by Arabs and defaced, with some Jewish students being assaulted. When they complained, they were told THEY were the problem for “inciting”.
This is what is happening on our campuses.

If I remember correctly guilt by association is not a crime in this country, so if your related to someone who may be doing something illegal you are innocent. As the judge in the case said “You don’t choose your family”. But then again, seems like everybody here wants to preempt a crime from happening, why don’t we just establish our own gestapo in the U.S. if we want to do that, oh wait, we already have the CIA

So if the Umma does not have the courage of their “convictions”, then others (read the FBI) need to police them.

BTW, we’re on the verge of declaring beheadings a fault of insanity. It just happened in Canada. With this Islamist here in NY beheading his wife, I’m just waiting for the ruling of insanity. Insanity better describes our responses (in our pathetic political class at least) to terrorism.
