Don’t Hate Sarah Palin Because She’s Beautiful

Female pundits like Maureen Dowd sound more like mean girls than serious political analysts. (Also read Victor David Hanson: ( Sarah Palin and Her Critics)

Remember those old Pantene shampoo ads with ’80s modeling sensation Kelly LeBrock? “Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful.”

Apparently women like Maureen Dowd and Liz Trotta didn’t get the memo. (Perhaps Keith Olbermann fits into this category as well.) They’re still hounding Sarah Palin — Dowd with her recycled “Caribou Barbie” shtick that passes for humor in the sourly elite pages of the New York Times, and Trotta’s contention that Palin is “inarticulate and undereducated,” hadn’t accomplished anything, “brought the attacks on herself,” is “wacky and nutty,” and only got ahead because of her looks. Oh, and Trotta thinks Dowd is funny and witty. So do I — when compared to having a root canal. Actually, I think the root canal is preferable (yes, I have had one).

What Trotta finds amusing is Dowd’s latest snark against Palin, which is chock full of her usual tired repartee: we are treated to phrases like “girlish bubbling” and “Sarah’s country music melodramas,” which is code for white trash. And we all know how liberals feel about white trash, a.k.a. average Americans who don’t read the New York Times — they’re beneath contempt until it’s time to ask them for either their votes or their money. Or both, depending on who’s doing the asking.

Meanwhile, the woman who criticized Palin’s “girlish bubbling” did some bubbling of her own back in 2005 when she was pushing her book Are Men Necessary? (Answer: yes, they are, except for those who can’t seem to get one of their own.) Myrna Blyth wrote about Dowd’s behavior during the publicity blitz at the time:

We know from that adoring cover story in New York magazine a few weeks back that Maureen favors green cowboy boots, a pink Burberry — and lots of lame. That story also confided that Maureen is just such a “fox,” an assertion that was somewhat belied by the photos, both old and current, accompanying the feature. The truth is that she is now a woman in her 50s who looks like an attractive woman in her 50s. Except for her forehead, which is age 27 and so smooth (I wonder, how come?) that it seems she wouldn’t be able to frown even if Gloria Steinem hit her over the head with a frying pan.

But it isn’t only that this 53-year-old mutton is shopping in the wrong boutiques; what’s really striking is that Maureen acts so lamb-like in these interviews, gamboling and simpering, giggling and flirting and telling everyone she is “such a ditz.” To the New York magazine reporter, she admitted that she is always losing cell phones and laptops — just the kind of behavior a mother would find intolerable in any child older than 16.

Wow, Dowd is a ditz? Who knew?

They hate her not only because she is beautiful. They hate her because they are catty, they can’t stand women who are more successful, more powerful than them. Proof: they hated Hillary almost as much.

What gnaws at these ladies is that in the deepest recesses of their heart of hearts, they know that the price of your heels, dresses, hair do, or makeup do not make for “class.” Palin has the class they can only dream of having. The only thing they have is a podium from which to use their sharpened tongues to attack those who they, they envy.

one would say that there nothing new under the conservative skies that their MSM still want to promote Sarah Palin ?

if none would talk of her, she wouldn’t be the object of the MSM insanities too !

so, cé l’arroseur arrosé !

Sarah Palin also makes these secular women feel guilty. They almost certainly would have aborted a medically defective baby—especially if they were already over 40 years of age. Palin’s pro-life values especially anger the secularists. As matter of fact, they may be the primary reason why she is so hated. Please note that a high number of these women like Maureen Down never gave birth to even one child. The odds are that many of them have had at least one abortion.

Jul 8, 2009 - 3:29 am 5. Marc Malone:

Looking at it from this perspective, I would interpret that they hate her because men LOVE her. I know some men are vulgar about it, but most men know a real woman when they see one. The universal reaction is that Todd Palin is a very lucky man. This, of course, is intolerable.

If Sarah were one of them, a liberal, she would be Queen Bee, but she hangs out with the guys. Hunting, fishing, snowmachine riding… has she no shame.

I have a sister just like Sarah. She’s beautiful, smart, and good at her work. The other women hate her, and the men love her. She can’t hold a job because of it. The women all work to drive her out. She suffers the whispering campaigns and the outright smears. They absolutely cannot tolerate her.

Now, where have I seen that behavior pattern before…?

Pleasant, secure and attractive seem to be traits that are missing in a large percentage of the left’s female ranks so it’s no wonder they gravitate to those they feel more comfortable with.
Hard to figure out who’s the monkey and who’s the organ grinder in Dowd’s case.

Liz Trotta really disappointed me in her shots at Mrs. Palin, particularly castigating her for being a beauty contestant. Waht does that have to do with ability? Even worse, when she asked, “What would William F. Buckley say about her”, I could only think, “The same thing he said about Ronald Reagan”.

Those liberal double baggers would lose a beauty contest to Danny DeVito for crying out loud!

You rock Sarah!

Jul 8, 2009 - 4:35 am 9. Sassenach:

The “enlightening article” about women in the workplace strikes me as being more about the perils of awful leadership than about women, per se. I’ve been in the workforce for 25 years, leading both men and women. While there are certainly gender differences, both are effective in workplaces that are well-managed. The author of the article admits her own low expectations and failure to act in the face of inappropriate behavior. When a woman sticks her hand down her blouse and tweaks her nipples in a conference room, that’s grounds for immediate dismissal — not writing a policy manual about respecting others.

Similarly, while Palin has been attacked on the basis of her gender, let’s not trivialize this as merely a “mean girls” problem. The left will dehumanize whomever dares to disagree with them and will attack on the basis of whatever pressure point they can find, be it gender, class, religious faith, age, or skin color.

Where the hell are all the grown-ups?

Step back and take a look at what all of these people are saying and how they are saying it. What they are revealing is their not only their very own character as they talk about others, but are essentially talking about themselves and their values.

They hate her because she is beautiful and they have to face a mirror every morning and most men and I mean men not girly men love her.

All you need do is run photos of Palin and Dowd side-by-side and the answer comes clear.

Dowd’s visage is proof positive of what was said about the English king many years ago: at 50, one has the face one deserves.

Jul 8, 2009 - 5:27 am 13. David S:

Whether Sarah Palin is beautiful or not is a matter for debate, but it certainly is not the reason that she is so disliked by so many.

Of course, given her weakness in every other area, it is no shock that the only aspect of Palin that can be vigorously defended is her physical appearance.

It’s quite entertaining to watch as the PJM echo chamber rolls on, oblivious to the larger world. It’s not a crime to keep pretending that Palin is ready for prime time, but it is foolish to claim that it’s her “beauty” that people object to.

No matter her appearance, her words and actions are more than ugly enough to compensate.

Peace.

#4 Marc Malone

Marc speaks the truth as far as most men are concerned.
“most men know a real woman when they see one”

And there is not a damn thing the Dowd’s of the world can do about it. You either have it or your don’t and women like Dowd are just pissed because they know they don’t have it and they can’t buy it at Sack’s or from their favorite plastic surgeon.

If you want to call Todd a lucky man yes he probably is but by looking at the Palin family there was more than luck involved there.
I would say that both he & Sarah have worked very hard to build the family they have and everyone knows that is no easy task.

Of course how would you expect Dowd to respect the effort the Palin’s put forth in having their family as she has nothing in her life to compare it to.
Dowd’s entire adult life has been nothing but writing for the New York Times.
Oh and don’t let those cute little (old) pictures on her columns fool you, she’s pushing 60…. (tell me why columnist persist in using 20 year old pictures in their headings? such vanity)
Dowd hates because that’s all she’s got.

Please draw a clear line of distinction between Dowd’s relentless comments about her looks, dress, etc., and the notion that it’s her lack of credentials that trouble her.

I think that the first comment is right on. It’s about the power and strength Palin and Clinton have shown in leading and daring to compete with men. With Palin they use her beauty against her, but it’s not what really drives them nuts. And many women side with men against powerful women to puff themselves up, seem less threatening, and in their minds, more desirable.

Jul 8, 2009 - 7:57 am 30. Dan Smith:

How about this? They are lazy and they know they can write an anti-Palin column by coloring between the lines for fifteen minutes. The editors and their fans don’t really care. A lot of people just phone it in during the summer. Why should Dowd et al be any different?

Jul 8, 2009 - 8:03 am 31. seven:

Envy. Envy is a monster. Dowd can’t improve her personal looks a single bit by trying to tell us Gov Palin is ugly or undesirable. Dowd is limited to working with what she sees in the mirror. Much of the hate is a reaction to what surrounds Gov Palin. She has a masculine husband. She has strong and healthy children. She lives in fresh air. She is not a gossip and busy with what other women are doing.
Dowd has the Tonya harding syndrome.

On a slightly more serious note:

A 44-year old woman should have known that she is gambling with the health of her unborn child if she gets pregnant.

Preeclampsia, hypertension, fetal growth restriction, diabetes and preterm labor, Down’s Syndrome, and chromosomal abnormalities in general are a lot more likely to happen at that age.

Abstinence or some form of birth control for women older than 40 is a good idea in general.

Gambling with an unborn child’s health is not.

The echo chamber of Big Media and the political class are like King George’s court and Louis the 14th and Marie Antoinette. They are corrupt aristocrats sneering at the hoi polloi. Palin is a dynamic, attractive voice of the people not cowed by her alleged betters.
Our founding fathers saw in the legislature common people voicing their concerns and sensibly making statutes. Instead, today we have entrenched mediocrities like Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, etc.
and the court jesters in the media pliable tools for the permanent government. Sarah Palin is a face on the wide and growing popular disdain for our venal, stupid elites. Hopefully we can solve this peaceably without seeing our own Dantons and Robespierres come to the fore.

If you think Palin does not have a lot of backers…more so now than before..then you are living under a mushroom and posting on these sites too much.

We’re Idenpendents and like Palin a lot. She has moral and ethics, something the Republicans need a loLOTLOTLOt more of, and something the Dems lost COMPLETELY a few years ago.

Oh, this is just peachy. Liberal women are the first to claim their abortion rights and to advocate for “choice.” Yet they are also the first to criticize the choice of a woman who chooses to have a baby at a later stage in life. Sorry, but your concern over “gambling with an unborn child’s health” rings terribly hollow.

I know several children with Down’s who were born to women in their 20s. I also know many women in their 40s who have had healthy pregnancies. Some women don’t marry until they are in their late 30s. Many forms of birth control are not advised for the over 35/40 crowd. Some women have health and or/religious issues with birth control. So, let’s see, what is a woman supposed to tell her husband? “Sorry, honey. We can’t have sex for the next decade because it’s not safe to get pregnant in my 40s.” Yeah, right.

In the past month, I have heard more women than I can count criticize Palin for getting pregnant in her 40s. I’m really outraged.

I’m just stating the facts.
The older a woman gets, the more likely it is that her child will have genetic defects and other diseases.

It’s true that every pregnancy is a gamble for a woman, but it gets worse as she gets older.

“So, let’s see, what is a woman supposed to tell her husband? “Sorry, honey. We can’t have sex for the next decade because it’s not safe to get pregnant in my 40s.” Yeah, right.”

Abstinence is a big thing nowadays.
So is getting the man to use a condom.

Or she could use her mouth.
Remember, your mouth can’t get pregnant.

You’re a moron. Firstly, she wasn’t talking about “people that work as real Americans”, you’re just making that up because apparently you need to lie in order to make your pont of view. Secondly, liberal states, have to dole out millions of dollars of their money every year to pay the bill for the southern red states. Case in point, liberal states New York and California send out 3 times as much in tax dollars to the Feds, then they receive back. right-wing Mississippi on the other hand, receives 4 times as much federal dollars than they generate in federal taxes. Palin’s own welfare state of Alaska gets back $1.87 back in services for every dollar they pay in Federal Taxes. That’s a 187 percent return on the investment. Or, you could just call it welfare, because that’s what it is – another red state that leaches money from other states.

Next time, get a clue before typing.

Palin wasn’t suggesting otherwise. She was playing to a crowd in a rural area back in mid October or so using terms that politicians always have and always will. It’s the whole Jeffersonian thing and plays well in rural areas. She also apologized for any suggestion that her remarks meant to imply that non-rural people were not real americans. You might not accept the apology, but it was made.

You set up your strawman and opine on how nice it would be for Palin and similar-minded folks to acknowledge the homogeneous greatness of the country and citizenry. You might consider how the local trolling crew using terms like red necks, hillbillies, white trash and so on that reflects the same prevailing sick disdain that Dowd shows to Palin and similar-minded folks before indulging. Elvis, funny then, that you wrote this: “Sarah Palin, along with many of us, are constantly acknowledge how great the USA is.”
after you wrote this: “Most big cities are in decline because they are run by democrats and produce nothing but contributing to the growing welfare state.”

Ummmm….is that your idea of “acknowledging how great the USA is?” First you claim, contrary to any evidence, that “most big cities are in decline” (not true) and then you claim they “produce nothing.”

“We’re just trying to stop the wholesale selling out and destroying the greatest country in the world. You on the other hand seem to be missing that point.”
No, you’re not, Elvis. You’re trying to separate “the greatest country in the world” into parts you like and parts you don’t like. Small towns, good. Big cities, bad.

I, for one, am tired of such fair-weather patriots. Love it or leave it, buddy. It’s not just a bumper sticker.

As for this: “and by the way…. have you heard the lordgod almighty OBAMA say anything positive about America EVER?”

Consider this, Elvis:

While Sarah Palin was talking about the “real Americans” holding it down as the liberal elites try to destroy this country, Barack Obama was saying, “there’s no red states or blue states. There’s only the United States.”

This obviously doesn’t jibe with your political loyalties, but one of those is a positive statement about America and one is not…

You pick which is which.

Dowd is a “poison pen” columnist, just someone who revels in others misery and does whatever she can to brig it about and or prolong it. The fact that NYT employs her tells you a lot about the paper and I’m sure the egg her on to go after certain targets. You’ll never find an actual intelligent thought in her columns.

Palin has two problems, neither of which should matter to anyone. She’s pretty, and she’s not very articulate. But what she does have is passion and principle. There are a lot of parallels to Bush, of course, who was hated by the left and considered a dumb “frat boy”, something like a male bimbo I guess. But when something needed to be said, he said it, he meant it, and he did it. I don’t know if Palin is my first choice to be President in 2008 because I have a soft spot for Newt, hopefully the next comeback kid. However, I would be happier with her over just about any other Democrat or Republican I’ve seen.

“You might consider how the local trolling crew using terms like red necks, hillbillies, white trash and so on that reflects the same prevailing sick disdain that Dowd shows to Palin and similar-minded folks before indulging.”

Um…I think my message applies to “the local trolling crew,” too. In case you missed that nuance, let me spell it out clearly:

“A garbage collector in Boise, ID is no more “real” or “American” than a garbage collector in San Francisco. Period.

A garbage collector in San Francisco, is no more “real” or “American” than a garbage collector in Boise, ID. Period.”

MikeW: I really do like refuting your inane posts. You are talking about federal receipts from which the states with the highest incomes pay more than those states who do not have as high an income. So apples and oranges.

What you are trying to deflect is that those “blue” states in fact are liberal dominated; and those “blue” states have the biggest cities whose populations are dominated by poor blacks and legal/illegal Hispanics who live off the government dole. Take any major metro city: Houston, NYC, Detroit, LA all are in the red because they are largely dominated by those who live off welfare. Now in “red” states like in the Mid West, the states and major cities are not as dominated by the poor and therefore do not have as many, by percentage, on welfare. These people work for a living. Everybody knows this to be true.

Ms. Palin’s comments were about those of us who work and pay taxes versus those who do not work nor pay taxes. Which happens to break down along party lines and beliefs in America. We believe in one America and you in some mischaracterization of America.

If, because of your ideology, you cannot see that it is the “welfare state,” that is ruining cities and states, then you are everything you project toward us conservatives. Your faux righteous indignation is all too transparent.

Oh, no, to the contrary, I do understand that the “welfare state,” is ruining cities and states. You apparently don’t seem to understand what a “welfare state” is.

These below are “welfare” states:
Mississippi $2.02(received per every dollar of taxes paid)
Alaska $1.84
Louisiana $1.78
West Virginia $1.76
North Dakota $1.68
Alabama $1.66
South Dakota $1.53
Kentucky $1.51
Virginia $1.51

And here are the blue states that foot the bill for Red state welfare:
New York $0.79 (received per every dollar of taxes paid)
California $0.78
Delaware $0.77
New Hampshire $0.71
Connecticut $0.69

People should feel that way. God knows, we should. Anyway, do not make fun of her English, as it is probably better than your second language.

Real Americans. Get over it. It wasn’t about you. If you’re a salt of the earth kind of guy, then you know what she was trying to communicate, and it doesn’t bother you. You know it’s about those preening in their ivory sinecures looking down their noses at the lesser mortals.

Tax dollars going to Red States. The Red States have open spaces… a lot of them. If we want room to expand in the future, we need to invest in infrastructure, like roads. Some of it is, however, pure pork… the Pubs selling out to get themselves re-elected.

Furthermore, try looking back at some old electoral maps and compare them to current maps. The deep-Blue States around the Great Lakes have been shedding population for decades. Whither away? Why, to the well-run Red States, of course. First the Pubs flee the Dem policies. Then, others begin to flee the disaster that is Dem policy.

Over the last few decades: WI is -1; MI is -4; IL is -6; IN is -2 (A Red State turning Blue); OH is -5; PA is -6: NY is -10! Not conincidentally, this is where the unions are strongest. They support the Dems unwaveringly, and help ruin business thereby. The jobs go elsewhere.

The Dems/Socialists are like a pestilence upon the land. They descend like locusts and despoil the land. Once the land is on its way to ruin, they begin to move on to other lands.

The amazingly stupid thing is, when they move to other States, they never change their thinking. It never occurs to them that the reason they had to uproot and move to a Red State is because of their voting habits. They continue to vote Dem, while taking advantage of the fruitfulness of the Red States. Slowly, Red States turn Blue, like CO, VA, NM, NV, IN. The despoiling commences.

Um, that should have struck you as false as soon as you wrote it. Liberals live out in the country, too. (And, by the same token, conservatives are allowed to live in cities…and many do!)

What I am trying to explain is this:

This whole urban liberals versus rural conservatives formulation is false.

The “Real America” consists of white people from Alabama, black people from Georgia, Hispanic people from Texas, liberals in Harlem, free-market industrialists on Wall Street, Michael Moore and Jack Bauer.

The fairweather patriots can say they love this country with all of their heart, but when they start complaining about the urban liberals, you know their heart really isn’t in it.

Sarah Palin, on the other hand, has failed or quit everything she’s ever tried. Which is fine, that’s her prerogative, but being a quitter hardly seems like an admirable trait.

Palin definitely has the “it” factor. But when you look beyond the surface, you find a whited sepulcher. Andrew Sullivan has a list of 32 documented lies. That’s quite a few for someone who has been on the political scene such a short amount of time. It makes you wonder how many undocumented lies there are. Or about her lack of intelligence in allowing so many lies to be documented in the first place.

Another issue I have is her lack of judgement. Look into the story of Trig’s birth as told in her own words. Basically, she first ignored standard medical wisdom and flew from Alaska to Texas while in her 8th month. Then, while in Texas, she starts leaking amniotic fluid. Does she have a doctor examine her and make sure her baby is ok? No – first she attends a conference, gives a speech at the luncheon, flies back to Alaska, and then drives past 2 hospitals equipped with NICUs to have the baby at a small local hospital with no such facilities. Basically, she waited almost 24 hours after first leaking fluid before receiving medical attention. When I called my doctor to let him know I was leaking amniotic fluid, he had me come to the office immediately. Fortunately, everything turned out ok and the baby suffered no ill consequences. But things could have gone horribly wrong on that plane. This is not the type of person I want to trust with the nuclear security codes.

I’ll bet. I mean, it’s not like trolls have ever taken advantage of a board with no registration requirements by creating a number of alter-egos to support each others postings and make their point of view seem more prevalent than it is, am I right?

“And the truth must be getting to you guys. Always falls back on baseless accusations, when the truth can be easily discovered, and whine about banning the ones who expose you as frauds.”

Let’s see, same writing voice, same nonsensical lowercase handle type, and a clear motive to engage in asshattery revealed within the content of the posts. Yep, it’s a big ol’ conspiracy to frame you. I know that this concept is foreign to a KosKiddie like you, but some website administrators like to have an open forum and not ban people for their ideologies, no matter how idiotic they might be. Those criticizing her are quite simply – Losers.

I suspected you were a birther, Elvis. It’s only the birthers who pound this tyrant nonsense. Obama didn’t take over “the car industry.” He bailed out GM and fired the dude who brought them to the brink of bankruptcy. One can argue that this was a bad idea…but one cannot argue that this constitutes “taking over the car industry.”

As for telling people how much they can make, again, not happening. Oh, you mean putting caps on compensation for the CEOs of bailed out companies? Well cry me a river. If these failures want to make their millions, don’t come begging for handouts from Joe Q. Taxpayer. Do it the old fashioned way: earn it.

As for this: “I’d also like to see the numbers on the real voter fraud in every major city in this country with Acorns help…”

No you wouldn’t. You wouldn’t believe them if you did. In fact, you’d probably say that not only are the numbers fake, but they’re the product of a liberal media conspiracy (financed by George Soros no doubt) to turn this country into a socialist paradise.

THIS VERY STRANGE REPORT WAS PUBLISHED BY KGB CONTROLLED RUSSIAN SOURCE. IT IS DISTURBING TO THE CORE

McCain’s running mate lays into Russia

05 September, 2008, 08:26

Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has wasted no time in casting a cloud over Russia. In her keynote speech to the party convention in Minnesota, the Alaskan Governor accused Moscow of using energy as a weapon in its disagreements with the West.

PALIN:

“With Russia wanting to control a vital pipeline in the Caucasus, and to divide and intimidate our European allies by using energy as a weapon, we cannot leave ourselves at the mercy of foreign suppliers,” Palin told supporters in St Paul.

The speech was crucial to the relatively unknown Republican, and her way of finally introducing herself to U.S. voters.

The pro-life, social conservative, received a thunderous reception from convention goers. But out on the streets, voters were quick to reject her credibility and social conservative views.

Thousands of opponents of the Republicans took their message to the streets this week. Repeated clashes between police and demonstrators led to hundreds of arrests, which critics say were unjustified.

Showing solidarity, activists set up a 24-hour vigil outside the jailhouse where civilians, journalists and medical personal were kept behind bars.

Also, where do you live, Serbia?

Do you often beat people? There was Serial Killer who was just shot dead who shared your passion for terror, although, again, I think you are a shut-in who emulates and envies people who beat others when they are losing arguments.

I would feel sorry for you, but I know you believe ACORN and George Soris are out to get you.

You teach supposedly in college (kollege?). Do you beat your students?

Do you beat your wife if she insults herself.

What a joke you are. BTW, if you get sent to prison, you probably believe in Prison Rape, so why not eleminate the middle man and embrace your fate?

You are a supreme example of the Right Wing, pointlessly violent, enraged, impotent, and full of threats like the Cowardly Lion.

You remind me of St. Francis, the Sissy.

Jul 8, 2009 - 8:57 pm 146. Marc Malone:

I think that a better explanation of why Lib women hate Palin is that she has it all. She is the very model of the 60’s vision of feminism. She can have the family, a great hubby, and a great career.

The modern feminist is the spinster redux – lonely, man-hating, and miserable. Palin’s mere existence demonstrates the emptiness of THEIR existence. All their decisions to get to where they are, pursuing their career at the expense of husband and family, maybe an abortion or two, only to end up with a big, fat zero in happiness, are demonstrated to be foolishness.

“Who needs men?” is demonstrated to the whole nation to be a fraud. All the things they valued being – chic, sophisticated, urbane, high-maintenance – are demonstrated to be cheap copies of the real thing. Even if they have a man, he’s some cheap copy, too.

Jul 9, 2009 - 11:58 am 157. Old Sailor:

I have managed large groups that were almost exclusively male and similar groups that were predominately female. There are different dynamics between the two groups.

Males tend to either excel or fail on their own and are chided by their peers if they don’t carry their load. Males want the boss’ approval but generally keep it to business.

Females tend to undercut other women rather than mentor them as I have seen males do. I have mentored several women and it almost inevitably results in sniping by the other women. Females seek the male boss’ approval almost as if he was their father. Things are done for the boss that no guy would do. They are not requested but do show up.

I have discussed this with my wife who works as a supervisor. She has elaborated on it and added some insight I didn’t have about jealousy between women and how they try to torpedo each other to get ahead with the boss. Between us, we have about seventy years in a supervisory capacity and have had hundreds of employees/subordinates.

That said; I have had to dismiss males more frequently than females for poor job performance. Male or female, I have counseled with people who weren’t performing up to par. Many males ignore the counseling while females seem more amenable to suggestions to improve their performance. In terms of work quality between the genders, I would say it is a wash. My evidence is only anecdotal rather than a scientific study but discussions with other managers both male and female tend to support my observations.

Men I have fired have occasionally thanked me later. That is surprising but some actually realized that they had a problem. I have never had a positive experience in a dismissal of a female. If we meet two decades later, there is animosity. I have felt animosity in the case of a dismissal on only one occasion and that was when the person involved was defrauding the organization willfully. Well, actually two occasions. There was a case of theft and I was annoyed but remained cool as I fired the culprit.

In any line of work, people need mentors. They can be a more experienced or older co-worker or even a supervisor. I have mentored both men and women but have seen few cases of women mentoring other women. That is just my observation and not a demonstrable scientific fact.

Jul 9, 2009 - 1:22 pm 158. tjproudamerican:

dear Sunglasses

“Elvis” threatened to “mop the floor with me”. I tried to tell him that Assault, Battery, and Attempted Homicide are crimes.

I could not care less about George Soros, ACORN, or “communism”. Those are Right Wing Obsessions that most Americans are too busy living our lives to care about.

If “Elvis” went to prison for beating someone, “Mopping the floor with” that person would qualify as Atrocious Felonious Assault in my state and Attempted Homicide, plus there is no guarantee that the adversary you are “wiping the floor with” in administering a beating, he would be subject to prison rape, which Americans think is part of the Prison Experience.

As far as Al Franken, it is definitely a “Mega-ditto’s Rush” article of Right Wing Conformity (did you know President Obama uses a Teleprompter? did you know, that like President George W. Bush Obama calls it The Fourth of July) that “Franken is not funny.”

The Abortion claim is simply unintelligible, since I never said anything about Abortion.

If you want to know why Obama is a lock in 2012, look at your issues, Teleprompter, non-Hypocrisy, ACORN/Soros (two issues Americans could not care less about) and Sarah-Worship.

Please do not change or learn to speak to Americans! Thx :) ::hugs::

The putdowns by liberals and particularly by women liberals of a viable woman candidate is one reason this country trails other nations in not having yet elected a woman president. The added fact that Palin is conservative and have traditional family values just goes against the liberal feminist image that Democrates & liberals want to put on a pedestal. As a result, having seen the media and more so the liberal media treatment of conservative women political figures mean that progress for attainment of higher political office is a long way away.

They hate Palin because she is a member of the Republican Party. They need no other reason. Republicans, in general, scare the hell out of them because, if elected, Republicans can actually slow down the leftist agenda. Good ‘ol Joe Biden during the debates:

• “John McCain voted against a Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty that every Republican has supported,” Biden stated. (Actually, in a 1999 vote in Congress, McCain sided with 50 other Republicans to kill the treaty. Only four joined the Democrats.)

• “Pakistan already has deployed nuclear weapons,” Biden said. “Pakistan’s weapons can already hit Israel and the Mediterranean.” (Pakistan has no known intercontinental missiles. The range of its weapons is thought to be 1,000 miles – halfway to Israel.)

• “When we kicked — along with France — we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon, I said and Barack said, ‘Move NATO forces in there. Fill the vacuum, because if you don’t…Hezbollah will control it.’” Biden recalled. “Now what’s happened? Hezbollah is a legitimate part of the government in the country immediately to the north of Israel.” (Except that the U.S. never kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon or anywhere else. They’ve been entrenched in Lebanon since 1982. Actually, Hezbollah, insofar as it was responsible for the 1983 suicide bombing at the Marine barracks that killed 241 U.S. servicemen, kicked America out of Lebanon, not the other way around.)

• “The president…insisted on elections on the West Bank, when I said, and others said, and Barack Obama said, ‘Big mistake. Hamas will win. You’ll legitimize them.’ What happened? Hamas won,” Biden said. (Only the last two words of Biden’s strange soliloquy are true. The rest are false. For one thing, Fatah controls the West Bank. Biden was thinking of Gaza. Secondly, neither Biden nor Obama predicted the 2006 victory for Hamas in Gaza’s legislative elections. Third, McCain and Obama – but not Biden — signed a letter urging the president to pressure Palestinians to require that candidates adhere to democratic principles before being allowed to run for office. Fourth, Biden served as an election observer and later wrote an article expressing high praise for Bush’s actions. To sum up: One factual error and three fibs in only 31 words. Pretty impressive, in its way.)

• “With Afghanistan, facts matter…we spend more money in three weeks on combat in Iraq than we spend on the entirety of the last seven years that we have been in Afghanistan. Let me say that again…” (He did say it again, but that didn’t make it true. It’s wildly and weirdly off the mark. Yes, facts matter. The facts here were that at the time Biden was speaking, the U.S. had spent $172 billion in Afghanistan. The Iraq War consumes between $7 billion and $8 billion every three weeks. Biden’s math was off by 2,000 percent.)

• “Can I clarify this? This is simply not true about Barack Obama. He did not say (he’d) sit down with Ahmadinejad.” (He most certainly did. And among those who criticized him at the time for it was Joe Biden, who told Byron York of National Review that the idea of a president meeting with the likes of the Iranian president or Hugo Chavez was “naVve.”)

Those were alarming mistakes. To me Biden’s most discordant claims concerned his Animal House-like history lecture about the office of the vice president. It came while Biden was dressing down Dick Cheney, who was not present, for supposedly being unfamiliar with the Constitution. “The idea (that) he doesn’t realize that Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the vice president of the United States – that’s the executive branch – he works in the executive branch,” Biden said. “He should understand that. Everyone should understand that. And the primary role of the vice president of the United States is to support the president of the United States of America, give that president his or her best judgment when sought, and, as vice president, to preside over the Senate, only in a time when in fact there’s a tie vote. The Constitution is explicit….He has no authority relative to the Congress. The idea he’s part of the legislative branch is a bizarre notion invented by Cheney to aggrandize the power of a unitary executive, and look where it has gotten us.”

Lord, would Tina Fey have had fun with this jumble of misinformation – if only Palin had said it! Article I defines the legislative, not executive, branch. The vice president is, indeed, mentioned there. What Biden finds “explicit,” hasn’t been so to previous vice presidents or to most constitutional scholars. Prior to the 20th century, vice presidents didn’t even have offices at the White House compound – they were housed in the Capitol. The notion that a veep’s constitutional authority is to provide advice to a president springs from Biden’s brow; it certainly isn’t mentioned, or even contemplated, in the Constitution, which doesn’t even say whether the vice president should receive a salary.

Should Joe Biden have known this stuff? Since he chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee, you’d hope so. But even if he didn’t, you’d think it would be news when he unleashed a veritable fount of misinformation to impugn Palin’s knowledge of the federal system while attacking a sitting vice president. It barely rated a mention in the collective mainstream media.”

#165 Grace Farmer – You’re right, it would not be tolerated in business… but, good heavens, she’s not in business! Try to think outside the box of your little world! There is a certain amount of the showbiz aspect in politics. Her folksiness and touch of flirtiness serve her well. It is part of her appeal to the common man.

(Btw, if a good-looking man winked at the crowd, he might be flirting, too, but that would be okay, wouldn’t it? You have been indoctrinated. Please wake up.)

At a time when the elite (who think like you, btw) are running our country into the ground, it may be time to think a little differently. Professionalism is the uniform YOU wear to work, but we wear different uniforms in different occupations.

There was a lot of noise about the clothes she wore during the campaign. The Pubs dressed her up. The media criticized her for it. However, if she continued to wear her thrift store clothes, they’d've sneered at her all the more. Which way is it for you, Ms. Farmer? You deride her for being folksy and flirty, but do you really want another cookie-cutter, same-old-same-old, no-integrity, self-serving politician?

Fact is, you like so many, are merely justifying your disdain for her background, instead of evaluating her character. I like her because she is someone who got where she is by bucking the system, not by going along and playing the game. I want someone who will buck the broken system. It’s the only way to reform it. She may not be as educated as I’d like, but she has the character we need at this time. At another time, I would not back her candidacy, but now, we need real reform. She’s about reform.

#160 Middleman – You are right about Houston, and about rural areas. Lots of idle hands becoming the Devil’s playthings.

It does not follow axiomatically that cities become Blue because of all the needs. The needs are all the same, just on a larger scale. Cities do, however attract people who are more marginal. They often become Dems. There are many Red cities, and they are more functional.

When NYC got fed up with all the Blue problems, they elected Giuliani. He cleaned up a lot of it. Was it all fixed? No, but it was better off. Louisiana went Red after Katrina. It is still a mess, but improving rapidly. Jindal may be dweeb-tastic, but he is a very competent dweeb… and a Conservative Republican.

Conservative principles work. Unfortunately, as soon as we fix things, people get the crazy idea that we can now afford to do this, that, and the other for the “underprivileged”. Then, the rot begins again. Rinse and repeat.

Carter messed things up badly. Reagan, a Conservative fixed it. Bush 41, a moderate, raised taxes and began the slide. Clinton continued it. Gingrich, a Conservative, took over Congress and fixed it. (Clinton took the credit.) Bush 43, a moderate/liberal, was mixed. When he cut taxes (Conservatism), the economy did well. When he spent (not Conservativism), things went badly. A bit simplistic, but the trend is clear.

So, did I get your State right, at least (TX)?

Sarah Palin for RNC chair?!

Forbes has an interview with Shannyn Moore. Here’s the last question:

Forbes: There is talk that Sarah Palin may replace outgoing Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele. Do you know anything about this?

Moore: I’ve heard talk about it, but at this point it’s just a rumor.

http://www.forbes.com/2009/07/10/shannyn-moore-sarah-palin-business-media-moore.html

Howard Dean flamed out spectacularly in 2004 and came roaring back as the grassroots hero DNC Chair who flipped the House and Senate two short years later.

Just sayin’.
