I think the fact 8% of whites are uncomfortable with voting for a black candidate has more to do with the fact that blacks are very easily identifiable with the far left of politics. Very few black conservatives have name recognition beyond conservative circles, so they probably didn't factor in to the preferences of that 8% of whites. Perhaps they also fear a McNabb effect, where the press won't hold a black president to account like they do a white, which is certainly the case with Obama--I couldn't see the press treating him 1/100 as critically as they treat Bush.

Finally, it should be noted that this primary season has shown the inverse to the 8% of whites who won't vote for any black candidate: if given the chance to vote for a black guy, 90% of blacks will do it every time. Why isn't that racist, or the fact that blacks tend to dismiss the GOP as the "white party" without any explanation of why?

"I wonder what percentage of men (any color) or women, for that matter, would find it very difficult to vote for a woman for president?"

I'd like to see the stats that support this hypothesis:
The vast majority of African-Americans are voting as a block on the basis of race---promoting the first(major)black American candidate. In comparison, women's votes are far more divided on the basis of party their identity (democratic, republican etc), whether they agree with a candidate's views and like the candidate’s record and character.

In other words: are women less likely to vote on the basis of gender identity, and African Americans more likely to vote on the bases of race identity?.

Although, its quite understandable why African Americans would want to promote a member of their community into the top office; they should think long and hard about the political repercussions. Will politicians assume that "character, record and content" no longer matters to the black community. Will political leaders assume that as long as the right visual image is paraded by in commercials that the black community will blindly support the Democratic party? This is how a group of people can be irrelevant.

[...] –Stephen Green aka Vodkapundit did his usual unique “drunkblogging” for Pajamas Media. He does some of the best live blogging around. A key excerpt: Clinton can’t quit now, not with Obama showing certain weaknesses with Democratic voters and near-fatal weaknesses with the general electorate. Keep in mind, voters want change, and voters in economically-distressed Pennsylvania more than most. But with them, Obama was either the wrong kind of change, not enough change — or maybe too much change. [...]

Actually, if there weren't so many superdelegates, Obama would already be the de facto nominee.

He has a clear majority of the delegates won in primaries and caucuses.

The two big differences between the Republican and Democratic parties is that the Republicans have a lot of winner-take-all primaries -- like California, where McCain knocked Romney out of the race with Arnold Schwarzenegger's help -- and very few superdelegates.

For what it's worth, Anthony, I'm back on Stoli.

It's not the finest vodka, but it's tasty, it's affordable, and nobody from Stoli ever tried to undo the results of the Mexican-American War.

It also has a nice peppery bite you might enjoy in a summer martini. Or even in a martini around the middle of April.

Cheers!

Has anyone tried Pravda Vodka? How is it compared to Belvedere (which is my favorite these days, not that I am a vodka expert)?

"Well done Pajamas Media. You have gone to bed with a dog and come up with flees."

The word is spelled "fleas," Edward R. Murrow. Your concern over the quality of Pajamas Media is duly noted, however.
