When AMC began the promotional [1] blitz [2] leading up to its second season of their Mad Men [3] series, we thought, who better than regular PJM Political [4] contributor James Lileks, curator of The Institute Of Official Cheer [5], purveyor of Gastroanomalies [6] and assorted and sundry Bleats [7], to take a look at the show [8]. Set on Madison Avenue at the dawn of the swanky New Frontier early 1960s, we asked him what the series got right in terms of the look of the first half of the decade, and Kennedy/Nixon election. And for his thoughts on advertising and this year’s presidential race.
