I guess Mr. Chrenkoff doesn't listen to NPR, as we in Boston are forced to do now that Bill Bennett has been taken off the air here. The new line is to report every violent incident ad nauseam, saying that it's 'a sign that the success of the surge [now admitted openly] may not be permanent'. The MSM, which is more backedged, is still changing the subject to economics on the grounds that the Republicans are winning on Iraq, but they will catch up with NPR soon I predict.

Hope this isn't a dup; have problems with PJ comment pages.

The ratio improved by 16X; that's double-double-double-double. Now, one more "double" and it will be a majority! :)

If Bush were running for re-election, Iraq would still be portrayed as an ongoing disaster.

Look at how far the media went in 2004 to discredit Bush: Turning the misbehavior of a few National Guard troops into the months long Abu Ghraib scandal; Making the liar Joe Wilson into a hero for supporting (falsely) the claim that Bush should have known there were no WMD; Promoting the poseur and traitor John Kerry while trashing Bush's honorable military service.

I suspect Holmes is correct, but even without that possibility, the information is pretty damning, isn't it?

Positive stories rose from 400 to 1100. Negative stories fell from 11,000 to less than 2,000. Thus, a little bit more positive reporting, but mostly, just not reporting at all.

Arthur, keep up the good work. It's nice to see folks who actually root for America.

"..1,944 stories published that dwelt largely on bad news..." versus "...711 stories commenting on the decline in roadside bomb attacks ..."

The only MSM outlet I regularly pay attention to is NPR. There, Iraq has virtually disappeared from the face of the Earth. The above sentences in quotes imply something I've noticed. It seems to me that the negative stories were 10-minute in-depth descriptions of horror and quagmire while anything positive was a passing comment such as "...with the violence in Iraq on the decline, Democrats have refocused their attention ...". I don't think your 1.67 / 1 ratio takes that into account.
