Gore Hits the Waves with a Massive New Houseboat

The environment guru has a big house, flies in big planes... and now captains a big boat.

Former Vice President Al Gore, the Nobel-winning self-proclaimed global prophet of green, has made a lot of money from the so-called “crisis” of global warming. He has profited from best-selling books that tout the looming climatic catastrophe, won an Academy Award for a movie about his slideshow presentation that focuses on his “sky is falling” message about a world on the brink of environmental disaster.

His business interests have been focused on the profit side of the equation when it comes to “global warming,” creating a “carbon credits” program that has put millions of dollars into the pockets of Gore and his environmental cronies. There are also financial interests benefiting from the sudden shift to the ‘environmentally friendly’ light bulbs that he has trumpeted so loudly: his friends at General Electric stand to make big money from the congressionally mandated demand for their new light bulbs.

There is no question that the alarmism and doomsday scenarios spread by Al Gore have been very, very beneficial to him personally and professionally.

But the question persists as to whether he actually buys into what he is selling. His own behavior clearly indicates that he doesn’t believe we are at a “tipping point” of worldwide environmental destruction. While he preaches that the rest of us must dramatically change our lifestyles and lower our standards of living to “save the planet” he lives by another set of rules himself.

It happens in the air, where he jets about in private planes that consume massive amounts of energy to spread his message of “conservation.”

His hypocrisy is revealed on land, where he travels in fleets of limos and SUVs to deliver speeches about the dire consequences of ignoring “man-made global warming” — and leaves the cars running throughout his entire speech in order to ensure that they will be nice and cool when he exits the building and returns to his gas-guzzling vehicles.

His supposedly “green” mansion consumes electricity that dwarfs the consumption of the typical family home.

And now, in order to complete his hypocrisy trifecta, Al Gore may now be extending his excessive consumption to the water as well. In an amazing display of conspicuous consumption, even for Al Gore, his new 100-foot houseboat that docks at the Hurricane Marina in Smithville, Tennessee is creating a critical buzz among many of his former congressional constituents. Dubbed “Bio-Solar One,” which may reflect some latent Air Force One envy, Gore has proudly strutted the small-town dock claiming that his monstrous houseboat is environmentally friendly. (Only Al Gore would name his boat B.S. One and not get the joke. Or perhaps the joke is on us?)

The boat is a custom-built Fantasy Yacht built specifically for Gore by Bill Austin of Sparta, Tennessee.

bs-one_1.jpg

According to Austin, the engines are bio-diesel fueled and Gore can expect to use about two gallons an hour to cruise Center Hill Lake. With a 500 gallon capacity Austin says Gore won’t need a refill for “two or three years” though he admits having “no clue” about where Gore could get bio-diesel at the lake. The Hurricane Marina dock doesn’t sell it.

“Do as I say, not as I do.” This is leftist slash environmental hypocrisy of the highest order. And it’s yet another story you won’t hear or see on CNN, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, or read about in the New York Times or the Washington Post. Indeed, for Mr. Gore, it is truly another “inconvenient truth”!

Not just the fuel consumption of Noble Algore’s 100 foot aquatic monster is involved. How many tons of petroleum went into making that plastic and fiberglass beast? What amount of irreplacable metals were ripped from the bosom of Mother Earth for engines and trim?
Where are the solar panels that will power the Goracle’s stupendous electric loads as he powers up the boat pierside to globally communicate by video and broadband from his hot tub? Could it be that most of the time the Gore Ark will be shore-powered by filthy coal plants until the Goracle’s magic ten years to get “totally wind, solar, carbon free” is achieved?

Where are the sails to exploit America’s limitless wind power? Why carbon-belching engines?

Ohhhhhhh, the humanity!

Aug 6, 2008 - 9:55 am 6. Paul From Hamburg:

I wouldn’t worry too much about Algore being able to refuel his boat. Saying that the boat is “bio-diesel fueled” is really just saying that the boat has diesel engines. Once Al decides that the earth is actually getting cooling, he can buy good old-fashioned petroleum based diesel and crank out plenty of carbon dioxide to warm up the earth.

There is no way that you can get biodiesel at the Cookeville Boat dock either. I have been there despite living in Texas, as my parents live fairly close to Center Hill Dam. There is only a few places to get gasoline at all on this Corps of Engineers Lake.

Aug 6, 2008 - 10:32 am 15. Robert Hume:

The jokes on those who ever thought he was serious. Look at the mans’ history in Tennessee and you’ll see. He’s still sour as hell at the Clintons and the Democrats over not winning the election and making money off of those among the leftmost of the democrat faithful is his way of saying, “screw you, I’ll dupe you into a trance and spend like a drunken sailor on conspicous consumption. You OWE me!!”

Why anyone could ever have thought the man gave a damn about global warming is beyond me. He thrashed around for his own hot button issue for a decade before hitting on one that got the cash rolling in. Remember he and is honey being “ultra conservative” when they were dueling with Frank Zappa over freedom of the airwaves? I guess not, huh? That is just some ancient history, not one of his many attempts to get some mice dumb enough for him to play Pied Piper to. I only hope he does like the original piper and takes a good many of his followers off to never be heard from again.

I had never before experienced “schadenfreude” (pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others) until I read that many of the top Democrat delegates to the Denver convention had invested in a Colorado wind energy company that has not produced ANY power and has proven a very bad investment.

AFTER we pay off T. Boone Pickens investment with tax dollars, finally, the suppressed story of how many birds die because of those wind turbines will surface.

Has the hypocrisy of the environmentalists irritated anyone other than me? I have the carbon footprint of a new born baby compared to big foot Gore and big foot Schwarzenegger who jets daily from LA to Sacramento. And being preached to by hypocrites is making me anti-environmentalist.

Makes me want to see a law passed banning private planes. Hollywood and the politicians would go berserk.

Note to energy companies: Better to advertise how the nuclear waste problem has been solved, how clean coal is now available, and how drilling will not harm the environment than how green we are ads which are making some of us grumpy.

Al Gore also bought a water-front condo in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s wharf area for $4 million a few years back. Obviously not a good real estate investment for someone who believes in the global warming induced sea level rise.

Either Al Gore is promoting global warming in order to “pull up” the economic ladder of upward mobility, or he actually believes in global warming, but his think is simply not consistent enough to reconcile it with his personal life and investment decisions. Either possibility illuminate flaws in his personality.

No, you really want to complain about the outboard mottors - non-ducted, non-shielded propellers. That’s what hurts manatee. Not jetskis. So jes’ git on down the road until you can think of an informed comment to offer.

I don’t know what engines are in this houseboat, but even a 60-footer will have twin-engine, 300 HP Cat diesels. So you have to figure this boat is probably pumping twin 450-500 hp motors.

Running biodiesel in a diesel motor (no one makes a bio-diesel specific motor that big) doesn’t result in much of an increase in fuel efficiency. The advantage of biodiesel is that it can be made from what is normally a waste product like kitchen grease.

In other words, you can’t even IDLE those engines and use less than 2 GPH per hour.

Aug 6, 2008 - 8:01 pm 81. danztoit:

Once the solar panels are completely installed (by weeks end), they will fully power the boat when it’s in use. When the boat is not in use, the solar panels will feed renewable energy back into the grid at the marina.

Bio-Solar One uses about 4 gallons of biodiesel on a typical weekend, depending on use. This is about 20-25% more fuel efficient than other boats this size. Tennessee is a leader in the production of biodiesel fuels.

There are 16 batteries that store the energy, each weighing 167 pounds. That’s more than a ton of batteries. The power that is not used will be enough to power 4 or 5 other boats at the marina.

Aug 7, 2008 - 3:05 am 90. Ken in Camarillo:

I have experience with 50′ houseboats at Lake Powell. I’ve heard of 75′ houseboats, but 100′ seems unmanageable. The fuel consumption numbers claimed are ridiculous as mentioned by others. A 55 footer gets about 0.5 mpg running both small V8’s at 2500 rpm for about 8.5 mph - about 17 gph. You could save perhaps by running slower, but at 2000 rpm we went only 6.5 mph. (GPS units are great for this type of experiment.)

An old school 50 footer with two 60hp outboard motors would get about 1.0 mpg.

Solar panels won’t come close to powering the needs of a houseboat, especially with air conditioning which is typically required in the southeast (warm with high humidity). The generator on a houseboat is 7.5KW and up. It takes a large area on the roof of your house to get that much out of solar panels. There just isn’t room on a houseboat for the number of panels you’d need. In a week at Powell the generator fuel usage is dwarfed by the fuel used to move the houseboat about 60 miles total, so solar panels are a hassle just to make a “statement”, and another system to cause problems.

Occidental Petroleum (parent company of Enoxy) chairman Armand Hammer and a life long friend and supporter of the Gores, had spent his career making contacts in communist countries. My man needs a boat like this he earned it along time ago in the coal business.

Have any of these people read Aesop’s fable about the Boy Who Cried Wolf? It seems to me anybody over the age of 40 has already heard countless doomsday stories and found them all wanting (since, obviously, the world is still here and disaster hasn’t ensued). Anybody over the age of 60 should be completely numb to these sorts of doomsday predictions, and probably don’t even bother addressing them anymore. In short, a few decades of this doomsday nonsense really begins to wear on you after a while.

That said, how old are you Chris?

Politics is full of hypocrisy. Take George W Bush for example. Aug 7, 2008 - 7:02 am 102. wraithe:

1 gallon per cylinder per hour…(Diesel)
Thats the basic equation to use, allows for lots of excess use…
He may get better than that, but i doubt it, unless he just takes it real gentle or it has one cylinder, then he may get away with 2 gallons an hour…

Some body said “its green”?, actually what I seen, its white, but the water is green…

Well if the modern ice age hits, he wont have to worry, it wont move anyway…
If global warming hits, then he could be in trouble, too many plants in the way…
If he is totally wrong, it wont matter anyway, he already has all your money…

So either way, he’s in a win win situation…

Anyway, no one has a clue about anything really, the data presented so far, has been twisted and bent so much that no body has a clue about whats happening next week, let alone in 50 years..
I think the scientists that have corrupted data for there own means, need to go back, get the facts, and present the truth, but alas, like pollititions, they will just blame you all for any faults on there part…
Best we could do is get the world to realise they are so dishonest, and possibly look to the real problems with the world, corporate control…and maybe try and settle things down so we can all get on with life, without this rich getting richer, and the rest of us, being ripped off…

This action by millions of people like Nate has much more of an impact on the country and world then Bush George’s lack of service in Vietnam some 35 years ago.

But then you may say about the Kurds, yet people forget about what happened to them at the hands of Turks 30 years ago…
Hussein is no worse than your Bush, except he didnt have right on his side…
Lets face it, war is a method for the rich to justify making money out of guns and sending the poor to do there dirty work…
And dont start saying I have no idea about it, I have served my country…
There is more to these conflicts than what the media present or the pollies say, quite often they start shooting then worry about the reasons, afterwards…
History has shown that, many times…And afterwards, who gets blamed, the digger that got given the order to go in the first place…
Wars are the result of politics, the reason for conflict is always political…
And politicians will incite a population to carry out there acts…
Bugger war, have a party and enjoy things…
Draft dodgers need to consider why they ran away, before sending the honest ones to die..(the draft dodger, has no right to send another to fight, thats just plain gutless)..

At times, I feel like I am a booking agrent for a cruise line… AWESOME! Our family members and friends really enjoy the experience. I get the biggest kick out of first time visitors when they arrive for the weekend excursion and see our boat for the first time. The expression on their faces… priceless! They are expecting cramped sleeping quarters, toilet/shower all in one, food in coolers, etc. Once inside, they ooh and ahh. The ceilings are 8 feet high (no bending over). Our boat has three bedrooms, two full baths, an office, a galley with full size appliances, washer/dryer, dining area and a living room area. All the bedrooms and living room have flat screen TV’s. The upper deck is a BBQ’ers dream area (we even have a flat screen TV up there). One more thing, a WATER SLIDE for the kids!!! Like I said in the beginning, forget AL. The solor panals are a joke .. That boat has at least a 5 ton heat pump to cool it and there is no way he is doing that with solor panals .. He has to run the 22kw generator that uses 10gph alone , or be pluged in the dock to stay cool .. This guy is a joke and people still love him

The joke is on us. Al Gore will make millions off this and live the life of Reily. Shame on him and his cronies. Shame on Hollywood for listening to him (HA,HA) and shame on the people who awarded him the Nobel Peace Prize. For what I like to know.

Actually Steve he is! The problem with critics like you are the facts. Green riches are a good thing. It costs Gore more to do it, and he does do it green, but someday it will be the norm and you will be the court jester looking for another gig. You know damn well you wouldn’t give Gore any credit if all he had was an inner tube. Agendas are easy to spot especially on the Wingerville Online Express!

Forward this story to everyone you know. The national media will NEVER pick it up (OK, maybe Fox would), but the planet needs to know this inconvenient truth. We’ve got to save the planet (just ask Pelosi!)!! We’ve got to save the planet….from Al Gore and his idiot liberal toadies!!!

Aug 12, 2008 - 2:30 pm 165. Scottar:

Well Now Montana Writer

Since Gore has the money to blow on the neat green stuff he can flaunt it. But for most people, some green options will always be beyond their financial reach, especial if Gore has his carbon neutral mandated way.

The fact is that wind and solar farms can’t harvest enough energy to replace the energy density of coal or oil to support the current population much less the projected growth. The projected energy production of either wind or coal is mostly inflated and projected on expectation of delivery.

Fact is they have been working on solar for over 60 years now and it has not become an economical reality. Without subsidies and tax breaks solar and wind would not be undertaken by investors as mainstream power sources. A residential solar energy system typically costs about $8~10 per Watt. Where government incentive programs exist, together with lower prices secured through volume purchases, installed costs as low as $3~4 watt, 10~12 cents per kilowatt hour can be achieved. Without incentive programs, solar energy costs (in an average sunny climate) range between 22-40 cents/kWh for very large PV systems. And currently, wind receives 14 times and more the subsidy paid for nuclear and a whopping 53 times that of coal.

Currently this is the return we get on our investment in Congress. A Berkley professor even admitted that he found the cost for a PV installation ranges from nearly $86,000 to $91,000, while the value of the power produced ranges from $19,000 to $51,000. And solar and wind probably won’t be cost efficient over fossils for the next ten+ years.

That leaves nuclear which can supply us with energy for the next 100+ years if done right with level IV technology. When properly managed their safe, efficient and reliable. there would be next to rill Chernobyl or terrorist incidents with series IV reactors and beyond. those who say they are just don’t really understand the technology.

Aug 12, 2008 - 11:37 pm 166. Bugs:

Believe me, I’ve looking into “alternative utilities” many times. The thought of getting off the grid is quite attractive. But as scottar says, the cost is totally prohibitive. I can afford a solar battery charger - anything more substantial is beyond my means. My impression is that the power company is in the same situation on a larger scale.

So - Gore and is pals want us to go alternative, they’ll have to start shelling out some major bucks in subsidies and tax breaks. When I can install solar or geothermal heat for no more than I’d spend on replacing my oil heater, maybe I’ll go green. Until then, it’s just a fantasy.

I’ll even sell you a diesel houseboat and you can run it on BIO DIESEL like Al Gore. If you want solar panels we can arrange for that as well.

Center Hill Lake, TN. I’ve made it my home. I’ll “hook” you up!!!

SEA you on the lake

Aug 14, 2008 - 2:05 pm 169. charles:

This is such B.S., pun intended.

People like Gore are perfectly characterized by the concept of a “Green mansion” or a bio-diesel powered yacht. When I grew up we had a canoe. It was a nice one though, and beter for appreciating nature than a houseboat.

Quit acting like you’re a role model. You’re Not!

I was watching Gore’s flick just the other night for the first time, and I’m from Portugal, and I should say that the single most evident lie in the whole thing (in my opinion, and ’cause it was so obvious to me personally) was roughly before the first half-an-hour of the movie, where he states that 13.000 people died in Portugal by the time and as a result of the european 2003 heat wave. I can’t emphasize enough on how big of a lie that is: newsreports from back then announced like… 14 victims, MAYBE! actually that made me stop watchin’ the movie and research a little bit on other potential lies in it. Thus readin’ this article, thus posting this.

You can’t really slam the guy. He just found a nitch in the Bible thumping way and has made a fortune off it. Heck he probably built the B.S.ONE with a grant!!! They have to send it to a ramp by special truck!! and pull the boat around there in order to fuel it up. Go Figure!! Yes sir thats really being green. You go BIG AL…

In the words of Obywon Kinoby,” Who is worse, the fool or the fools who follow him?” I believe modern man is the perfection of nature. In the 70’s Newsweek & the wisest of the wise predicted that a new Ice Age was coming to wipe out mankind & there was nothing we could do about it oursdie of saving the trees by using plastic bags instead. So what did we do? We invented SUV’s, we cranked up our engines, we used our spray deoderants & we put a stop to it. We did such a good job that we created a warming trend that will extend the growing seasons so we will have more food to feed hungry people. Thanks for noticing, Algore!
