Gravest Threat to Obamaland: Disillusionment
Fur will fly when the messiah's followers suffer the inevitable let-down.
Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned,
Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned.
— William Shakespeare
If Billy Shakespeare were still with us, I’m quite certain he would do us the favor of coining some nifty expressions to describe Obamaland and its inhabitants. I’ve no doubt whatsoever that the talented English bard would relentlessly pick the beast of Obama-worship down to the very marrow of its bones.
I’ve no doubt either that the witty Bill S. would take his first, perfectly aimed quill-strike at the inevitable disillusionment of Obama followers, possessed by utterly unrealistic expectations.
In the absence of William Shakespeare, I’ll have a whack at it myself:
Obamaland has no rage like love to hatred turned,
Nor hell a fury like a supporter scorned.
Oh, where to begin? Obamaland is proving to be such a target-rich environment.
Let’s start with Hillary, shall we? If there is a single, starry-eyed American who does not understand that the price of Bill and Hill on the stump for wet-behind-the-ears Barry O. was the cabinet post where Hill could most brightly shine and most aptly prepare for her own run in 2012 (or 2016), the Guinness Book folks would like to find him.
If Bill and Hillary Clinton are anything, they are perhaps the most astute political minds in the country today. The economic meltdown we are in had a foundation directly traceable to Bill Clinton’s modifications of the Community Reinvestment Act and both Clintons understand well that once an economy as large and diverse as ours spins out of control, there is no way a single president — even a two-term president — can bring it back to its pre-meltdown status.
If anything, I imagine that Hillary Clinton is quite thankful that she is off the hook on the economic disasters that wait like ticking bombs in the disillusioned minds of Obama’s maniacal voters.
Hell truly hath no fury like that awaiting Obama as he fails to eradicate the worries and responsibilities of his delusional followers. The woman made famous by her YouTube proclamation that, once Obama is elected, she will no longer need worry about putting gas in her car or paying her mortgage will perhaps be first to explode.
Then there is the “I’ll-fix-all-your-schools-with-gobs-more-money” Obamaland promise. Is there a single starry-eyed, literate parent out there who believes that catering to the teachers unions, who bear the brunt of responsibility for creating the problem, is actually going to fix it?
The first dent in Obama’s knightly education-fix-it armor is the fact that he and Michelle would rather walk over hot coals and don sackcloth and ashes than send their own daughters to one of the nation’s public schools. Of course, the excuse they’re offering now is the overarching “security concern” that goes with living in the White House.
However, what “security concern” was there in Chicago, when the Obamas were just another nothing-special couple having kids? Barack and Michelle have never trusted the public schools with their own children. The girls have always attended pricey private schools. They always have and they always will.

Nov 29, 2008 - 12:10 am 2. Kathryn:I hope that Kyle-Anne is right that people will become disillusioned with The One. I fear that the masses will buy into the already-begun narrative that whatever problems continue or arise during the Obama administration, it was really the Bush administration’s fault for not revealing the extent of whatever the problem is.
Nov 29, 2008 - 12:48 am 3. criticalthinker:I wonder when the Progressives are going to wake up and realize a “smoke and mirrors” routine was perpetrated on them by a Chicago political machine and 2nd tier Clintonite staffers. Nov 29, 2008 - 1:23 am 4. Rachel Peepers:Klye-Anne Shiver was in a homerun hitter’s zone when writing about the great one’s rabid followers’ coming disillusionment when the rubber of their expectations meets the harsh road of reality.
That is, of course, assuming that the devotees of the brown eyed handsome man possess the ability to think critically about anyone other than their persona non grata number one, the war winner in Iraq, George W. Bush.
Shiver’s tacit insight being that any violent rocking of the political boat to port could conceivably cause a disillusionment on the part of Democratic Party moderate voters against the Democratic Party in 2012. Moderates’ ballots tend to be based on real world issues, not some Jim Jones drink of the month club selection.
Dem bigwigs know that the big O tax rise promise could lead to a big depression. Hence, the second coming won’t be raising taxes in his first year.
Dem bigwigs are aware that snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in Iraq won’t score brownie points with most Americans, only the ones who long ago have mentally given up their citizenship for a blame-america-first multi dimwitted, quasi traitorous mindset.
Point being, the boys in the Reid, Dodd, Palosi, land of plenty, the dirty, filthy hands rich, will see to it that Barack doesn’t do anything to spook moderate voters, like offering blanket amnesty to illegal aliens.
Dem liberals aren’t dum. The hands that feed them they don’t bite.
It’s in their interest that the Big O dump his campaign promises now that he’s forced to live in the land of political realities, and not where his groupes call home, which is a place made not of wood, nails, tables and chairs, but of dreamers’ brainwaves.
Call it the land of Oz. Utopia. Shangrila. It’s a place where people look forward to the kind of change that never will come, where the soundtrack of their lives is not just disallusionment, but feelings of anger, betrayal with a pinch of fear thrown in the mix.
The days of fainting at an O speech are behind them. Ahead lies the coming realization that The Obama reality train has left the station. It has no scheduled stops in OZ, Utopia or Shangrila. For the rabid, ravid, he’s- going-to-change-the-world- followers of Obama, there’s no seats on the train of state. No room for dreamers. No time to mull and stew over what should have been.
There’s only place for them to go now that Obama and the Democratic Party is focusing on the business of America.
The day comes when everybody has to be told there is no Santa. No Easter Bunny. But there is a real place to go to do whatever. Lick wounds. Cry rivers. Wail at the moon.
As the song ended, “What’ll I do with only dreams of you that won’t come true? What’ll I do”
The answer is, go home. Rest up. They’ll be other elections where believers like you are needed. At least for a while.

Nov 29, 2008 - 4:24 am 8. misanthropicus:Reality objective exists, despite liberals’ unshakable belief to the contrary – and as those who still bother to observe the show, Obama’s agenda has no resemblance whatsoever to what he promised, or his strange followers appear(ed) to believe that he promised.
The foreign affairs predicaments faced today by America have not lessened, but are greater – and Bush or Carl Rove haven’y caused this. The economic crisis hasn’t been caused by homophobes, but it is a long due correction to long history of legislative neglect, lack of attention for the globalizantion’s side effect, common (global) greed, and sheer stupidity (I remember Kenneth Gailbraith once talking about the stupidity cycle), and this history transcends the last few presidential terms.
And whatever Obama promised, that’s gone. As much as they can, media will muffle the discrepancies between the “hope ‘n change/yes, we can!” candidate’s rhetoric and his, gosh! pragmatic decisions, then some criticism will appear.
Yet for many Obama’s actions will always remain unassailable – the liberals’ response to his appointments is a good example that they will take anything from him, even Donald Rumsfeld as DOD secretary.
With this type of mentality, I don’t think there will be something like desillusion about Obama in the cards, so little Barry’s most excellent journey will continues, helped by nice and caring relatives who foot the bill for his self-fulfillment – uncle Biden, auntie Hillary, uncle Gates, uncle Volker, uncle Bill, uncle Larry (Naomi Wolfe and Erica Jong warmly endorsing him), and so on and so forth (leaving aside those people’s competence, man, there isn’t anything for liberals in his cabinet?)
No matter how much obfuscation and triangulation Barry will discharge, very few people will admit the truth that his election actually was an absurdity generated by the convergence of some highly unusual political & economical circumstances and furious media parisanship & propaganda – this complemented by complete, shameless unwillingness to vet his past and relationships, and by the destructive fury directed towards his opponents, McCain & Palin.
The mindless election of Barry Soetero as US president showed that the US is becoming a ridiculous banana republic, populated by illiterate, superstitious and emotional folk whose chief source of aspirations, competence and understanding of the world comes from Oprah Winfrey-like Tv shows – but who will admit this, and who cares about restoring the previous ruliness and honorability in politics? No liberal and no Obama follower; and while eventually all airbags deflate, regardless the props and caring uncles and auties tending them, Obama, even deflated will be gigantic – a Nicaragua state of mind.

Y’all seem to have a real misunderstanding about what most Obama supporters believe. We expect that he will change the policies of the last 8 disasterous years under a selfish, greedy, inarticulate president. The Bush administration has left an incredible mess to be cleaned up and it’s not going to be an easy job.
Once you realize that most of us accept that Obama is just a politician who said what he needed to say to get elected, you can stop with the foolishness of “The One” and the “Perfect World” crap. Try to relax and enjoy the ride, our country will be better off with Democrats in charge.

A failure for him is a failure for 306 billion citizens.

Nov 29, 2008 - 8:38 am 23. Mike:Obama worshipers are living proof that there needs to be an intelligence requirement in order to vote in this country. Notice I did not say educational credentials, but an intelligence requirement. Most of the literati on both the left and the right can’t get past a narcissistic valuation of their own intelligence. The left is driven to dabble in Marxist constructs that were long ago proven to be invalid, while the right continues to pursue a course of constant growth while ignoring the effect of such logic on our domestic economy and our ability to maintain a standard of living that was several centuries in the making.
Nov 29, 2008 - 8:46 am 24. Barbara Medal:Kyle-Anne,
As ususal a great article on the Obamessiah phenomonon. Having read Alinsky’s book myself and followed the wizzards rise in Obamaland, I would rather see some ideas on a plan to rebuild the Conservative platform and the plans in takeing such actions. Tom Delay did a piece at how “we” as a party have to change, it is all about the good ol’ boys and their career not their service to the country or the people. The grass roots need to step up to the plate and the election is over we have to counteract it. One would hope the people that voted him in would see their stupidity, they won’t.
Tom Delay’s comments in red, mine in blue
What is needed then is a new ( NOT!!!there is nothing wrong with the old conservative ideology. B) conservatism, a new agenda (NOT!!!), an alternative that can be put before the American people when they come looking for one. (Being sold out again with the “New” Conservative drivel, merely the old ‘one step back’ rendering an illusion of choice to the dumbed down Republicans.B)
I think a Republican agenda that looks like Ronald Reagan’s or the “Contract with America” won’t work (BIG Republican LIE #1)— the country has moved on. (Moved where??? I’ll tell you where to the New World Order only the Republican elites (aka closet socialists) do it slower!! B) The specifics must be worked out, but the very idea of Republicanism must become at once clearer and bolder. Tax cuts must be replaced by tax reform (NOT) — reforms with an eye specifically toward investment, growth and middle-income families. “Slowing the rate of growth” should be replaced with actual spending cuts — better to cut a little than tinker a lot.
Nov 29, 2008 - 8:47 am 25. David Thomson:(What part of LOWER TAXES does Mr. Delay not understand)
“Once you realize that most of us accept that Obama is just a politician who said what he needed to say to get elected”
This is a common theme that is only sometimes explicitly stated. A large number of Obama supporters knew their man was lying—but took it for granted that he was not lying to them! His deceit was supposedly only directed towards those red neck white guys who are a bunch of bitter, gun carrying idiots.
Nov 29, 2008 - 8:54 am 26. Rashputin:seven – “The fur will not fly”
I understand what you’re saying, but it may not work out that neatly. I’m sure that’s the presumed course, but the fact that the most radical among the democrats have spent eight years building their own alternatives to the traditional democrat instruments means that traditional democrats have no control over them. When the new conspiracy theories start to fly, that’s when we’ll know how much disappointment and anger there is.
I strongly suspect that most democrat insiders are planning to rely on the radical fringe whenever they need their help rather than having to cater to them. Otherwise, they’d have begun leaking lowered expectations stories prior to starting to announce appointments. Obama’s “third Clinton administration” picks and giving Hillary State, both prime the conspiriologists for an attack on those they consider counter-revolutionaries within the democrat camp. Whether they can be defused or not will determine how easily Obama can sit on his throne.
I expect to see theories about who is restraining “The One” at first, but if those aren’t handled carefully by democrat insiders, they’ll soon turn into, “we were betrayed” theories. Hillary, for one, has no incentive to keep anyone from believing that they were betrayed by voting for a novice rather than for her. I see it coming down to the new appointees and where their self-interest lies. If they feel that they’re being given their head (in the horse sense not the presidential perk sense) they’ll probably help quash whatever they can. If not, they could well feed the theories in a way that reflects on Obama himself rather than on the, “counter-revolutionaries”.
Regards

Nov 29, 2008 - 10:00 am 29. Ann:This piece is so well done that I just may have to rename my blog the K-A admirer society. I also agree with your comment regarding Rachel Peepers. Thanks.
4.RachelPeepers….”Dem bigwigs are aware that snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in Iraq won’t score brownie points with most Americans, only the ones who long ago have mentally given up their citizenship for a blame-America-first-multi-dimwitted, quasi-traitorous mindset…” the phrase that jumped out at me in this neatly phrased paragraph was “only the ones”. The problem is that the group of those who HAVE mentally given up their citizenship is LARGE. Apparently we are faced with an electorate where the middle 15% of voters are going to win every election from here on out. I’m very concerned that the quasi-traitorous and ignorant group you describe constitutes a substantial portion of that “middle 15%”.
These fools have so much more power than the rest of us, precisely because they reside at the tipping point and are willing to be bought off by any candy man who strolls through town.
Nov 29, 2008 - 10:34 am 30. Al E. Gorie:I am afraid to say that a disillusionment period will not happen. The narrative has been set, and people, including the establishment media, will bend and distort reality as necessary to prevent cognitive dissonance. Please re-read Orwell’s 1984.
Bush has served as the “Goldberg” character for the last eight years. He will continue to serve as the “Goldberg” character for the next couple of years until a new Republican becomes the “Goldberg”, such as Sarah Palin. You think Olberfuehrer is going to dedicate his Two Minute Hate to The One, or Biden?
Nov 29, 2008 - 11:04 am 31. Gavin:The bar he as to surpass is so low – set by the current and clearly worst president in U.S. history – how can you possibly imagine those who chose the chosen one will suffer from disillusionment?
The fact is, even if he succeeds just a little – it will be such a massive improvement over the previous White House tenant he will be praised as a miracle worker.
For the most part, America feels good about itself again. More that 70% think Obama will be either a good or great president.
Why, for America’s sake, do you hope that he isn’t?
Nov 29, 2008 - 11:19 am 32. David Adams:What exactly was ‘disgusting’ about Zarwahiri calling Obama a ‘House Negro’? Was it ‘disgusting’ when Clarence Thomas was called the same name? Was it ‘disgusting’ when Condeleza Rice was called much worse by both National and International members of the press?
Nov 29, 2008 - 11:35 am 33. Anna:President Bush has been called everything but a child of God for the past 8 years and he never whined or cried about it – and neither did you!
Not to take anything away from the central thesis, but the quote at the top of the article is actually by William Congreve, not Shakespeare.
As for the main point, I think that in about half a year, the group of people who will be kindest to Obama might just as well be the conservatives. We are the least likely to be disappointed since our expectations are so low to begin with. And any step towards the center or the right will just be bonus points.
I won’t be surprised to see conservatives, in a few months, defending the new president when it comes to national security and, probably, the economy (if his signals of a more conservative approach pan out). We’ve had a lot of practice having to “defend” Bush’ policies. And the Leftists have had a lot of practice attacking the president.
The more things change….
Nov 29, 2008 - 11:35 am 34. VOTING FOR KODOS:Ms Shiver, I have to agree with comments #8 and #9. I do not believe Obama’s image will suffer because of disillusionment, because I believe the media’s control of the narrative is too complete, and it will perhaps take a generation of conservatives’ concerted effort to undo the “long march through the institutions” that the left has achieved.
I believe most of the anger over President Bush’s policies were media generated, to start with. Most Americans are not in the media, and most of the liberals shouting the loudest probably don’t even know one person in the military. So all the upset is not because people they know are dying in overseas wars. It’s because the media told them to be upset.
How about unemployment? W’s policies generated enough business to keep unemployment at lower levels than Clinton’s, even though W had to fight two overseas wars. The dissatisfaction with the economy has been generated by the media spinning everything with such a negative light. Once Obama is president, miraculously all the poor homeless waifs, wandering the streets without coats, will all disappear and be happy. Again, media spin will sanitize every action taken by the new president.
Just name a topic, and you’ll find that all those people who thought they wanted hope and change will now find that they now believe that President Obama is doing just what he ought to do. and all the imagined unhappiness, which was driven by NBC/CBS/ABC/CNN/NYT/LAT/&c., will now be replaced by a glowing happiness and a determination to overcome life’s little obstacles (the same obstacles they faced before).
Until the transnational left’s control over the narrative is broken, I don’t see how Obama will experience any backlash, no matter what he does.
So, I’m an Eeyore. I don’t think I’m wrong, though.
Nov 29, 2008 - 11:35 am 35. VOTED FOR KODOS:Gavin said, “Why, for America’s sake, do you hope that he isn’t [a great president]?” You are mistaken. No one hopes that President-elect Obama will be a bad leader, because we fear the horrible effect that would have on our national security, our economy, our well-being as a sovereign nation. I want to add, this is in contradistinction to the behavior of the Left and their lapdogs, the media, who practically cheered and jeered at every American death in Iraq, as the vindication of their policies. I don’t want Obama to have a failed or terrible presidency; but his stated policies, voting history, and past and present associations have me bracing for the worst.
Nov 29, 2008 - 11:41 am 36. Winner:Ha ha! Obama Derangement Syndrome is a full-blown epidemic on the far-right.
You’re exhibiting the classic Kubler-Ross 5 stages of grief.
You’ve all moved from Denial (Obama is Kenyan! He can’t be sworn in!) to Anger (Obama is stupid! His supporters are idiots!)
Next up will be Bargaining (Maybe he’ll govern as a conservative!), then Depression (Woe and doom! It’s the end of the world!) and finally Acceptance (OK, he’s President. Time to suck it up and deal with it.)
The mix of denial and anger right now is amusing.
Carry on.
Nov 29, 2008 - 12:11 pm 37. Ventrue:11. Aisling:
LOL, while I largely agree with you, my fellow traveler, please take a moment to understand why those you taunt manifest such warped and delusional fantasies.
I’ll be the first to admit that many of our friends on the right are ensnared in a sort of siege mentality, but to look at things from their perspective, they ARE under siege and echo chambers like this one represent the few arenas that they may circle their wagons for one more courageous “last stand”. Look at what concepts, imagery and icons that conservatives revere and hold dear….The Spartans at Thermopylae. The Christians at the Flavian Amphitheater. The Texans at the Alamo. Pickett’s Charge. Custer’s Last Stand. Randy Weaver. The Branch Davidians. Judge Roy Moore….and so on and so forth and scooby dooby doo. Yes friends, the martyr syndrome runs deep in the hearts of our right wing brethren, and quite frankly, they are at their happiest when they find themselves in situations where they can portray themselves as the last bulwark against the rough beasts whose hours have come ’round at last. As they see it, Aisling, people like you and I are those “beasts”.
Their little world is changing, growing, and expanding in ways that frighten them. How often during the last two election cycles did we hear them invoke fear to try to motivate their voters to the polls. In 2006, it was fear of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid . This year, it was fear of Hillary Clinton and eventually Barack Obama that formed the lash that coerced conseratives from their warrens to come out and support a moderate Republican that most of them wouldn’t have wasted the saliva to spit upon him at any other time. It largely succeeded for the base, but funny thing about scare tactics….they work like poison gas. They are both uncontrollable, unreliable and often counter-productive. Fearmongers on the right managed to scare their own to the voting booth, but they also scared moderates and independents to the booth and inspired them to pull the lever for Obama. As a result, most of the posters here are feeling ever more marginalized and that is the wellspring for the sort of pipe dream offered by Shiver here.
When it became obvious nearly two months ago that Obama was going to win, there were chortlings among those on the right that a President Obama would govern hard left and thereby set the state for a conservative resurgence in ‘10 and/or a retaking of the White House in ‘12. In the weeks since the election, conservatives are now trying to comfort themselves with the nostrum that Obama will piss off the left to the point that they will not support him….if not actively work against him. Obama, if anything, has proven himself a shrewd and adept study of Macchiavellianism. He will govern center/center-left and nudge this country gently back on the tracks toward liberalism….tracks that were jumped in the wake of the events of 9/11. Democrats have only been in control of the Hill, with the barest of majorities, for 22 months. Many of them in Congress today remember what happened to them the last time they had a Democratic president and they tried to overreach. I highly doubt they will be of a mind to repeat that mistake or allow Obama the leeway to make it for them. Where our friends on the right will have to beware, however, is if Obama succeeds in winning a second term. With nothing more to lose, it will be up to congressional Democrats to stifle any inclinations to steer hard left.
They say to victor go the spoils, but to the patient goes the victory. With that in mind, I point out to our gay comrades-in-arms that they failed to heed this before going out and striking conservative America in the knee. Conservatives reflexively kicked back with anti-gay marriage intiatives to the crotch. Be patient, dear friends. Time and history are on your side….and on the side of liberalism in general. After all….it took thousands of years for modern humans to displace their Neanderthal antecedents. It will take awhile to displace their ideological descendants.
Allow our conservative friends the luxury of indulging their role playing fantasies of the persecuted martyr within the confines of their insular enclaves. It’s really the only security blanket they have left in our brave new world. It keeps them sane and it keeps us chuck(ling).

On another note I don’t want Supreme Court Justices who consider empathy as a criteria for making a decision. They are supposed to interpret the Law and the Constitution, not make new sympathetic laws.
Nov 29, 2008 - 12:24 pm 41. Kyle-Anne Shiver:At least until after the inaugural, we conservatives should cut our liberal friends a bit of slack…most of them are truly still unaware that they are living in a media-created propaganda bubble regarding their latest political savior.
And yes, of course, the same media will do all it can to protect the bubble and not let the truth invade, but every time a brainwashed liberal catches on through other reading, he will spread the word a bit more.
If the brainwashing of American voters were not so terribly dangerous to us all, it might be simply laughable. In the fifties and sixties we used to pity those trapped in Pravda’s propaganda bubble; now 52% of us are them.
Sad. Very, very sad. And despicable.

You forget what unprincipled hypocrites the moonbats are.
They’re about power and vindication for their side, not principle. As long as The One gives them that feeling of power, they’ll conveniently find “ways” to approve of everything else.
The One and his media sycophants can also easily make “What the meaning of ‘is’ is” look like Sophistry 101. The moonbats will lap it up — all the while delighted by how much more “intelligent” they are.
Nov 29, 2008 - 1:11 pm 43. tanarg:Obama will try to hide his Marxism below the visible appointees in Washington; it’s a delusion that he’s tacking centrist. He’s a Marxist, and that isn’t going to change.
And we shall see what the Supreme Court decides. Nobody anywhere has actually subjected Obama to the constitutional test of eligibility for the office of president.
In my view, it matters not whether Obamanoids are disillusioned or not. They see only the broad outlines — are people groveling in front of Obama? OK, they’re satisfied with that. The last thing they’re going to do is admit they were wrong, and disillusionment would mean that they’d have to do that very thing.

Nov 29, 2008 - 1:49 pm 45. Winner:Relax. Soetero hasn’t even stepped in the office and has on his tail a bigger problem than Clinton after one term – remember “I never had sex with that woman Monica Lewinsky”? Well, your friend Soetero will have opportunity aplenty to weasel out from the corner in which he has painted h/self.
A delightful implication – what about rising $ 600 million dollars under false pretense? What a about the reimbursement?
The Kubler-Ross scale is yours, baby – the fun is the conservatives’.
It’s stunning to see how smoothly the transition has been so far. Obama is the same liberal that he was earlier this month when Republicans were screaming “Socialist!” and “Marxist!” at the hate rallies.
But now Republicans have somehow convinced themselves that Obama has betrayed liberalism and the the left is “disillusioned”. This has neutralized the far-right as they’re unsure whether they’re supposed to: a) Oppose every Obama appointment or, b) Embrace the new administration and try to create a “divided left” narrative.
They still hate Obama, but since they’re trying to portray him as being far more conservative than he’s ever been, their voices now cancel each other out and the only man left standing is the President-elect.
Their complete and utter lack of self-awareness is truly a sight to behold. Republicans are being played and they don’t even know it. 51 days, 22 hours until inauguration.
Carry on.

Kyle-Anne, I’ve watched Obama and am going to write this on angrywhitedude.com in a day or so…..Obama is not as liberal as we think. He is a over-ambitious opportunist! Obama uses whomever he needs to reach his aims…then discards them when they are no longer of use to him. He did it with Rev. Wright after Wright and his racist ilk gave Obama his political start. He is doing it right now with the unwashed leftists like the Moveon.org’s who worked day and night to elect him…only to watch him dust off the tired old Clintoon staffers and put them in his cabinet. The unwashed left isn’t of use to him anymore. He even is keeping Gates at SecDef! Who would have thunk that a few weeks ago??
This guy wants power and wants to hold onto it. I no longer fear that he’ll try to make America into a socialist state (anymore than it is). Obama is all about Obama. And you can take that to the bank!
Great work, as usual Kyle-Anne.

This too-clever-by-half attempt at reverse psychology has only served to divide the right into anti-Obama and (fake) pro-Obama camps. Meanwhile, the “divided left” is thrilled with their victory and more than willing to go along with the Republican charade.
This will continue until the inauguration, and it will fail. In the meantime, I await more praise for our President-elect from the angry far-right. What a wonderful turn of events!
Nov 29, 2008 - 3:15 pm 58. Kyle-Anne Shiver:One more thing for you folks who actually believe this election is OVER and a done deal:
Get yourself a civics book. The popular vote of November 4 does not elect a President. Never has. The Electoral College elects the President. When you voted on November 4, you did not even actually vote for a candidate. You voted for the electors pledged to that candidate. Those electors are actually legally allowed to change their votes in the actual tally in the Electoral College, to be held on December 5 of this year, next Friday to be precise.
Barack Obama has no official or legal standing in this Country at the moment. He is the presumed winner of the election because he has garnered enough pledged electors to win. However, should anything happen between now and next Friday that would make him either ineligible or any host of other things, then the Electors would not be bound to cast their votes for him.
What percentage of American voters do you think are aware of these facts about their own federal government?

As for the birth certificate thing – can we get over it already? Do you really think it wouldn’t have come out in (at least) the last two years? Do you really think Hillary would have NOT looked into it and made hay? Sheesh! We’ve got enough to argue without bringing that smelly red herring out.
To you Ventrue and Winner, we “on the right” will support our President, no matter our ideological differences with him – we’re not a nation of men, but of laws. This is in stark contrast to those like you who took every opportunity to trash the last one. As the loyal opposition, we will support him when he is right and oppose him when he is left, I mean wrong. But we will never take it out of the house. I certainly hope he governs pragmatically, which nearly means centrist. He just doesn’t have the history or legislative record for that, and that’s what worries me. Maybe being “where the buck stops” will give him pause where being in a group didn’t. We’ll see. He’s said a lot of things, many contradictory, during the whole election season. We can only wait and see how he will really act. All of this is pure conjecture.
Barry will be literally my boss, I hope he governs well. It is up to us to make sure he does. I think you will find the opposition to him will not be nearly as vindictive as yours has to W.

I’m talking about our opposition to his policies and nominations as we see them will not be filled with the same vitriol we have seen from the left – witness Robert Bork, Clarence Thomas, John Roberts, Samuel Alito, and Antonin Scalia. They were all (but Bork) confirmed by mostly partisan votes, while Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer were confirmed almost unanimously despite their nominations by a Democrat President to a Republican Senate. I foresee the same from the right as we have seen in the past, not from what we have seen from the left, although we are tempted to give as good as we have gotten. I think we still believe in the proper customs of politics that have been recently discarded by the left, but so hastily retaken now that they are back in power. Forgive us if we’re not impressed.
Nov 29, 2008 - 6:32 pm 67. myth buster:The reason Tom Delay talked about tax reform is because tax cuts aren’t enough. Cutting taxes doesn’t do a thing about the $400+ billion in compliance costs we spend every year and get nothing in return. Besides that, the tax regulations are so complex that the system itself discourages economic growth. The Fair Tax puts a huge dent in both problems.
Nov 29, 2008 - 7:13 pm 68. BuffaloBoy:Disillusionment? How about just delusion? That would describe the Republican party right now and the individual who just wrote this piece (of crap).
Are you guys serious? Lemme ask you something:
Who would you rather vote for huh? An underprivileged overachiever or an over privileged underachiever? Because the former won the election, while the latter decided to pick a completely incapable and unprepared running mate that helped sink his campaign. I can’t believe you actually have the never to say that democrats ignore facts when all you guys watch is Fox News.

Read something real for once instead of just making up shit.
Let me ask you another question: What would have happened if King George got his way and privatized Social Security? What would be left of it right now? I mean, it wasn’t bad enough that he raided the Social security trust to pay for the Iraq War, but he also would have basically wiped out what was left of SS if it was dependent on the market.
Bush has been President for 8 years, 6 of those with unfettered power in the form of a republican Congress. But for some reason he is never to blame for the pathetic state that this once great nation is now in.
Talk about delusion.

Reality objective exists, despite liberals’ unshakable belief to the contrary – and as those who still bother to observe the show, Obama’s agenda has no resemblance whatsoever to what he promised, or his strange followers appear(ed) to believe that he promised.

61. Jeff Weimer:
As you have found out, the individuals like the one referenced above are a big reason why your side is out of power. You have some serious housecleaning to do before the next election cycle rolls around.
If Barry, as you call him, will be your boss, you must be in the military. Were you, perhaps, stationed in Antarctica throughout the 90s or are you so very young as to not be aware of the level of hate and invective directed at President Clinton? Bush had it quite easy by comparison. As I pointed out to our friends on the right a more than a decade ago when they thought they were going to accomplish by impeachment what they failed to do at the ballot box, there would, one day, be another Republican in the White House…..although at the time, I was sure we would’ve gotten at least one term out of Gore. I cautioned them at the time that we who supported our president would be taking notes and taking names….and woe to the next Republican who took up residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. If we on the left did a yeoman’s job roughing up GWB, you should pat yourself on the back….we had excellent preceptors.
So please….spare us the sanctimonious “nobler than thou” speech about how your opposition will be principled whereas ours is vindictive. It is people on your side of the political aisle that have riven this nation along ideological lines over the last twenty years and brought the level of dicourse to the sad state that it is today, starting with Michael Dukakis, raised to an art form during the Clinton administration, continued against Gore and finally culminated in the swiftboating of John Kerry. You guys tried it with Obama but I guess the well was finally dry the fifth time around. But hey, that doesn’t stop the more pedestrian elements among you from trying even though the people have spoken.
And what rewards have you reaped for your efforts? A near total loss of power, an electorate that is, at best, antipathetic towards your world view http://www.gallup.com/poll/112015/GOP-Takes-Another-Image-Hit-PostElection.aspx, and you’ve managed to make enemies of nearly half of your countrymen. Nice work.
However, in the spirit of the times, I am willing to take you at your word when you say that your opposition will be loyal. But if you don’t mind, I think I will slightly alter a tenet of Ronald Reagan’s to suit my own purposes when it comes to the conservative collective: Verify, THEN trust.
We’re watching you…..
Nov 29, 2008 - 11:21 pm 76. lee:American’s aren’t likely to turn against Obama that quick. Although if you’re anything like the woman in the video, a huge ‘letdown’ is pretty much inevitable.
Still, After reaching the highest of the high, he’ll probably come back down to earth after the honeymoon stage. I expect his approval rating to hover around 50-60% after his first two years or so.
I expect a two term Obama presidency. I don’t think Union and Latino support will wither away in the upcoming years (although who knows?). The GOP needs to learn from some or their mistakes and start making a comeback in congress. He might be president for 8 years, but as long as the conservative voice strengthens, I’ll be fine with it.

Nov 30, 2008 - 12:04 am 78. susan:70% if single women voted for obama because obviously they are in desperate need of a man, or an image of it, or an empty suit representing an image of a man.
100% of immigrants or locals who are too lazy to work and want government handouts voted for obama 94% of blacks voted for the “brother”, that comprise the 10-15% he needed to win.
Such people do not possess the minimal intelligence or capability to vote for someone else, therefore they will support him to death.
You cannot reason with blacks or drooling women but at least you can prevent lazy immigrants from voting.
It’s a sad state of affairs since the core american values have been diluted in a PC crap of multiculturalism and every other race/group is better than the majority.
I really don’t know what to tell you. Of course the media and establishment will erase every single mistake that he will do so the stupid masses will go on thinking they are geniuses and voted for another genius.
PS: for someone above who wrote that obama is an overachiever. Using plenty of affirmative action programs policies to me is not being an overachiever. Check your facts.
Nov 30, 2008 - 5:01 am 79. Thinking Person:Obama hasn’t even been sworn in yet folks. Let’s wait until Jan. 20 as our liberal friends insist we do THEN we can watch him disappoint his liberal, unblinking masses of followers. I can wait. I’m taking notes.
Nov 30, 2008 - 6:53 am 80. Jeff Weimer:Ventrue, I served the entirety of both Bushes and Clinton, I know of where I speak. So spare me YOUR sanctimony about how bad democrats have gotten from republicans. Dukakis? You forget, it was Gore who brought up Willie Horton. Bush never mentioned him directly, but it’s now conventional wisdom. Clinton? we went a bit too far, but YOUR side played it’s nasty political games plenty before and during – see the referenced Bork and Thomas hearings for political character asssassination. Gore? Please, there was nothing he didn’t bring on himself – and he nearly won (if he woulda won his own state…). Kerry? You actually believe that “swiftboating” is the application of mistruths? Most of what they said was the truth, some unverifiable, but not LIES. He can’t take back his “jenjis khan” testimony, can he? If you want lies in that election, ask Mary Mapes and Dan Rather.

“Y’all seem to have a real misunderstanding about what most Obama supporters believe. We expect that he will change the policies of the last 8 disasterous years under a selfish, greedy, inarticulate president. The Bush administration has left an incredible mess to be cleaned up and it’s not going to be an easy job.”
Of course you would never spread the blame to include that power-hungry, big spending gang called Congress. At least Bush was able to rein in their agenda to a slight degree. Obama is likely to encourage even more spending, regulation and waste. In a few months time we will know which branch of government is holding the leash or if they are merrily strolling along hand in hand.

By the way, I hope all you rich liberals out there are going to pay a bunch of taxes because Joe Biden said it’s your patriotic duty to do so and I am waiting for my share of the free stuff Obama promised me.
An “underprivileged overachiever?” Obama?? When exactly did all this “underprivilege” take place?
Oh, I know, he likes to talk about being raised by a single mom on food stamps, but Ann Dunham hardly fit the image of the struggling single mother such talk is meant to evoke. No, she was by choice a college student in between husbands who availed herself of taxpayer subsidies. Her second husband, with whom Obama lived from age three through ten, was an executive with Mobil Oil. His grandmother with whom he lived after age 10 was the first female vice president at Hawaii’s largest bank. He attended a prestigious private prep school where his tuition was paid mostly by scholarships. He then enrolled in a pricey private liberal arts college transferring after his sophomore year to the Ivy League. Later, of course, he went to Harvard Law. Hardly a life of underprivilege.
Now, what about all that “over-achievement?” By his own admission, Obama spent his two years at Occidental drinking, doing drugs and seeking the fellowship of radicals. His Columbia years are largely a mystery although he claims he spent most of his time in the library. And yet, he managed to graduate without honors, without even departmental honors. Obama has allowed access to neither his grades nor his test scores. Since he is inclined to a self-celebratory, self-congratulatory vanity, we must conclude that those grades and scores would demonstrate that his advancements in higher education were based on something other than merit. On what basis did he transfer to Columbia? If his SATs and GPA were that good, he would have shared them with us. Even an Ivy League degree unencumbered by honors will not get you into Harvard Law. Perhaps his LSATs were out of the park, but surely if that had been the case, he would have shared. His election to the Law Review presidency was an achievement to be sure, but by the time he had come along, that position was no longer a merit appointment as Harvard by then bowed to the great diversity gods. He did, of course, graduate from Harvard with honors.
There is nothing in the Law Review over which he presided with his name attached and it is said to be the least referenced Law Review in its history. Although Obama spent a dozen years teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago, he published nothing (not even a amicus brief). And yet, tenure could have been his for the asking. He has no notable achievements in the fields of law, community organizing, business (although his tenure there was brief) or as a state or federal legislator. His only executive experience was assessing, monitoring and funding program proposals for the Chicago Anneberg Challenge, a project that was deemed an abject failure by even by its own evaluation committee. It seems through the years that Obama has been most adept at promoting himself and positioning for the next big move without ever sticking with one thing long enough to make a difference. He has been the most successful at using his race and biography to facilitate his climb to the top (where he finally will be forced to actually perform). It should not be underestimated that, as Joe Biden so helpfully pointed out, Obama is “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.” But underprivileged and overachieved? Hardly. In fact, if it’s an overprivileged underachiever you’re looking for, you could do lots worse than Barack Obama. The disillusionment will come and it will be painful.

Didn’t realize how many of these blog posters are actually liberals pretending elsewhere to be conservatives.
It won’t be Obama running the show, it will be Nancy Pelosi, and Obama will sign anything she puts under his nose. He’ll have to. He hasn’t really earned the right to be President, and if he doesn’t know it already, he soon will. By “earned”, I naturally don’t mean he didn’t win the election, but by any objective standard, he hasn’t earned it the way most other presidential candidates have. That means, he’s been given some special support which will then have to be paid back. I don’t think he’s got the character, even if he wanted to, to buck Pelosi and Reid.

Just an observation. The quote is actually not from William Shakespeare. It is from a seventeenth century English dramatatist of some brillance, William Congreve. It is from his work the “Mourning Bride” and the correct quote is “Heav’n has no rage, love to hatred turn’d, Nor Hell a fury, like a woman scorn’d.” I am not sure that this takes the argument much further.

You’re a moron, and you have no idea what you are talking about. I just want to slap at least of few of you back into reality, ok?
Why people voted for Obama:
He has a better plan.
He isn’t even President yet and you morons are coming up with the most unbelievable (READ: unbelievable) nonsense ever seen. You even criticize the fact that Obama has his kids in a private school. Who do you think really would blame him for that? I think half of you are smoking frickin meth(crack for crackers). No one believes it except for you, and you are OUT for FOUR YEARS.
Hallelujah!
Obama ain’t the diety, we know that. But he’s better than anybody that you have to offer and that’s why he won. I’m just glad you fools can’t drive the country into the ground any further.
And about his campaign contributions: You don’t have any clue what he’s really going to do with that money do you? And you aren’t going to either until he actually does it. And that’s the way it should be as that is the Law. duh.
Nov 30, 2008 - 9:26 pm 98. susan:“You even criticize the fact that Obama has his kids in a private school. ”
that’s called being hypocritical, and strangely enough all the leftist parties who oppose vouchers for private schools ALL have their kids in private ones. I am not american but it’s the same everywhere.
“And about his campaign contributions: You don’t have any clue what he’s really going to do with that money do you? ”
again, HE was the one who said he was for public financing. Again, he was the one hypocritical.
Why such an intelligent person (as his slaves are telling us) is forced to flip flop on so many issues? doesn’t he have the mental capabilities to have an original, single thought that he can stick with?
so much for his plan, there is not a single thing he hasn’t flip flopped on.
It’s the flip flop plan you are talking about

As the ignorance pendulum swings today, in bigger weapons we trust.
[...] Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned. — William Shakespeare If Billy Shakespeare were still with us, I’m quite certain he would do us the favor of coining some nifty expressions to describe Obamaland and its inhabitants. In the absence of William Shakespeare, I’ll have a whack at it myself: Obamaland has no rage like love to hatred turned, Nor hell a fury like a supporter scorned. Oh, where to begin? Obamaland is proving to be such a target-rich environment. Pajamas Media » Gravest Threat to Obamaland: Disillusionment [...]

Dec 1, 2008 - 6:41 pm 104. Left Coast Conservative:Now inhale deeply: Obama has a better plan- everything, but everything that Obama promised is GONE. Everything that he SEEMED to promise (he’s Holograma, after all) is gone, over. Everything is gone, he has no plans whatsoever (if he ever had)- after the rush he got after election, he panicked because indeed what it takes for the office is well beyond his paygrade, and surrounded himself with figures of authority and experience who will call the shots.
And so little Barry’s most excellent journey can continue – uncle Larry, uncle Gates, auntie Hillary, uncle Biden, they are all there running the show while little Barry can blissfully press on the “Present” button (I tell you, he’s good at that).
How can you still speak about Obama having a plan, it’s beyond any normal person’s reason – unless you already know that he’s in secret dealings with the RNC for signing up as Republican.
Plan – show me a precise hologram, BufBo.
It is only a matter of time now until the shrieking begins on the far left. Obama cannot appease all of his base. If he caters to Pelosi and company, then he will quickly lose his “uhhhhh, what?” voters as they start to figure out that he isn’t what they thought. If he caters to the middle of the road, the fanatics on the left will…what was Jesse Jackson’s phrase for it?
Ah yes, cut them off. He is in a lose, lose situation and not only is Hillary now poising (again) to pounce in 4 (could she) or 8 years, but also the mid-terms have the potential to swing back conservative.
We are a conservative nation, people and we vote that way on issues. Look at Prop 8 in California. Obama is in a bad situation.
