Pipes did not say Palestinians needed to be crushed. That is a misquotation.

He said the "will of the Palestinians" needed to be "crushed." Basically the point he was making is that Israel should not make compromises with Palestinians and provide them with arms/money before if Palestinians refuse to recognize Israel. Pipes suggested that Israel is in a deceptive status because of being forced to bargain with Palestinians who aren't interested in boosting their economy and are more preoccupied with destroying Israelis.

And yes... the MSU and the few La Rouche and MECHA supporters are entitled to protest by law even if what they are saying is vile. But I feel that I am also entitled to expose what is going on here. Certainly students who identify with suicide bombing cannot be ignored.

Nonetheless, I am not trying to restrict anyone's freedom of speech. I am, however, exercising my own.

Thanks.

I must say that the demonstrators seemed very well disciplined and non-violent. Given that Pipes had just stated his opinion that Palestinians needed to be "crushed" in the "crucible of war", which is strikingly harsh language, having his speech interrupted appears to me to just be political counter-speech.

As an Irvine alumus, let me say that this is in no way surprising, though I must suggest that Cohen's tone gives some hint of the ways in which this is not a one-dimmensional problem. The radical rhetoric of the MSU is dangerous, but the polarizing lalala-I-can't-hear-you communications gridlock is hardly a one-way street.

Hey Richard, flunky or not does he not have the right to be heard? Hey Richard, what are YOU so afraid of that you MUST repres speech? If Mr. Pipes has views that are so far out of the mainstream or without logic then can the public not discover this for themselves? Do we need little tin plated dictators with delusions of Godhood like youself to control the speech of other citizens? What are you afraid of Richard? What is your agenda beyond repression of others freedom?

"Aww, American universities.. Beacons of free speech and respectful debate."

I like the Abigail Thernstom quote:

"American universities are islands of repression in a sea of freedom."

Not really! Daniel Pipes is a Council on Foreign Relations paid flunky. He writes books to dispel the conspiracies of the very organization he's a member of. Watch out! This man is a "wolf in sheeps clothing". Another neo-con, globalist who is an enemy of the American Constitution and our Sovereingty! Check it out:

As a UCI alumus, I'm suprised the MSU keeps inviting Abdel Malik Ali - he's a PR disaster every time he comes, making them look kookier to every new entering undergraduate class.

But don't expect the UCI administration to sign up. It's not their job, and if they did sign up it would instantly turn the MSU into the underdog fighting a hostile administration.

More importantly, it's just not the chancellor's to do your heavy lifting. The only way to fight speech is with more speech.

It's a lot better to do what you're already doing: getting the word out about what the MSU is doing and saying. Transparency is the best way to fight hatred - keep up the good work on keeping 'em honest.
