This is too easy to interpret. Forget the long-term effect of the talks. Try thinking short-term.

As, Israel has signed a what will amount to a temporary non-aggression pact with Syria in preparation for the increasingly likely missile attacks against Iran....and the idiocy continues.

Of course, what is not mentioned is the likely US and/or Israel strike against Irans Nuclear infrastructure and the leadership of the Revolutionary Guards. After that event, Irans influence and status will fall precipitously, as will its ability (already quite shaky) to fund all its foreign proxies. Syria is almost certainly jumping ship while it doesn't look like a desperate measure. And of course, Israel is a much more trustworthy ally- see Egypt.

It is my sincere hope that the Iranian government's influence-building efforts remain checked until such time that the Iranian people can better influence their own leaders.

Iran has nothing to worry about. President Obama will make sure that Tehran's interests are honoured in any peace accord that Israel makes. It is the least that he can do in the interest of international peace and goodwill.
