Is Obama Buckling Under Pressure?

The presidential race is a marathon — and stamina is becoming an issue.

But for whatever reason, Obama seems to have been subject from the first to fatigue — and to complaining about it. In May of 2007, he attributed a careless error of his — stating that 10,000 people had died in Kansas tornadoes instead of twelve — to weariness. This was striking because it occurred so early in the campaign, when he would have been expected to be fresh and energetic.

Much has been made of McCain’s propensity for anger, and it was the subject of constant early speculation. When would the famous McCain temper make its appearance, and how bad would the melt-down be? The race isn’t over yet and anything is still possible. But the fact that it has failed to materialize so far is an indication that McCain is holding up surprisingly well under the strain.

In February of 1972, when Democratic presidential candidate Edmund Muskie broke down in frustration because of false accusations directed against him by the Manchester Union Leader, it was the end of his campaign. There is still some argument as to whether he actually cried, or whether the moisture that was seen on his face was merely snowflakes melting on his cheeks in the cold New Hampshire winter.

Tears or not, Muskie’s emotional state was clear, and it was perceived as being inappropriately intense and close to being out of control. He was seen as being too weak and too volatile — and perhaps even too unstable — to be president.

This may seem unfair, and perhaps it was. Standards in these matters have changed enough so that Hillary Clinton’s more recent tearing up (also in New Hampshire, by the way) is there something about the state that fosters weeping?) was seen as humanizing her rather than being an emotional liability.

But that’s probably because we had already perceived her as steely, first as a betrayed and humiliated first lady and later as a cool campaigner. Obama is different; every utterance and move must be studied intently and given greater weight because it gives us clues about the fortitude of a man relatively new to the public eye.

There’s an old warhorse of a verse by Rudyard Kipling called “If.” It falls far short of being great poetry but it’s the sort of thing children used to be given to memorize in grade school in order to build character. But many of its lines are remarkably appropriate for explaining the requirements needed to thrive in the crucible that is a presidential campaign, and then a presidency:

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too …

If you can dream — and not make dreams your master;
If you can think — and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same …

If Obama’s star seems to be fading, it may be due at least in part to his reactions to the situation of finding himself suddenly behind in the polls, threatened by opponents he previously underestimated. It is a question of character, stamina, and judgment. He doesn’t seem to be “keeping his head” now that he is being tested in this new way.

And if McCain seems to be ascendant, it just may be in part because his convention speech highlighted the fact that in his five years as prisoner of war he survived one of the toughest tests of all — not without great difficulties, but ultimately intact. Or, in the words of a different verse of the same Kipling poem:

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

It may seem unfair that America demands almost superhuman strength of its presidents. But if we do, it’s only because the job requires it.

Obama has to get out of bed every day and maintain an act, a facade, and carefully monitor what he says lest he let slip something revealing. McCain only has to be McCain, something he’s done every day for a lifetime. Obama’s is a much greater effort, and the stress cracks are beginning to show.

When will Barack Obama be subjected to the same level of scrutiny as Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin? I watch as ABC’s Charlie Gibson hammers her on “global warming”, Iran, Russia and ANWR oil drilling. When has Obama been subjected to the same intense interrogation?

I’m waiting to watch as Sean Hannity asks Obama about his past and present associations with William Ayers, Tony Rezko and other creepy Chicago underworld characters. And to find out where the $110M “education improvement” funding really went during Obama’s “community organizing” days? And how much of his laundered campaign funding comes from middle-eastern and other foreign sources? And why he calls himself a Christian yet was sworn into the U.S. Senate with his hand on the Koran?

But the real question is why so many Americans seem willing to vote for this anti-American charlatan?

Saltherring,
I saw the interview too and thought Charles Gibson looked like he was trying to prove something to us about him. Like he isn’t the lightweight we think he is. I didn’t mind the questions and think similar questions should be asked of all the candidates (like a year ago) but since it looks like only Palin is required to take the grilling. I mean come on even O’Reilly wasn’t as bad as this at least he joked around a little. Gibson is pathetic.
I do think, although she wasn’t perfect (no one would be), she stood her ground and did a good job. She’s going to give them hell when she gets to DC.

“And why he calls himself a Christian yet was sworn into the U.S. Senate with his hand on the Koran”

I don’t think that was him.

On another note. I don’t think you can equate the savior of the world as a “community organizer” but maybe the Pharisees you can after all they got that community together to yell “crucify him”, “crucify him”, “crucify him”, so I’ll just equate Obama to them. :)

Great post! Being a Reagan Democrat and voting for George W. Bush in the last election (not the first) I have watched with utter amazement at his unflinching determination and super-human strength of character. I mean this guy has been sliced, diced, minced, chopped, julienned, mashed all on an endless loop of assault by the MSM and that was just in one day (pick one) as POTUS! Now multiply that by 8 years and I must confess, I would probably have a noticeable twitch or be so punch drunk a good public fit of weeping might spring up like Muskie.

I certainly trust John McCain and to a lesser extent (not much less)Sarah Palin more than I trust Barack Obama and Joe Biden to hold up under global pressure and scrutiny. Even though Obama/Biden would be he darlings of the MSM. But that in and of itself is part of the problem. McCain/Palin have not been sheltered and certainly won’t recieve much good will after Nov. 5th.

Obama/Biden are “soft” not just on their political underbelly but throughout their political being because of the liberal MSM and the false sense of security that creates. Look no further than the fact that Obama truly believes he is the chosen one. He really is nothing more than a 46 year old spoiled child that cleans up nice (Joe Biden) and recites his well practiced political speeches like the brown nosed little school boy that he is.

Bullies around the globe are lining up, with a wicked smile, to pound this little chump into the dirt and take his lunch money, which he will freely give (read: our lunch money too)! I’m not proud to admit it, but I’ve been in a few fist fights myself as a cocky (and foolish) younger man. Barack and Biden are the kind of sissy little punks you could make a decent living off of by pushing them around and taking whatever you want from them. I can read ‘em like a book and so can all the crooks, thugs and dictators around the world. Why do you think they’re all so happy for Obambi?

P.S. I would certainly think twice about poking the old geezer in the chest or pulling a gun on Sarah Barracuda! Isn’t that important in the world? We can’t stop idiots from being idiots but we can and should motivate them to be careful, very careful. Obama just doesn’t have it!

Sep 12, 2008 - 8:31 am 5. AlexinCT:

That’s what you get when you have the MSM cover and carry water for you: you never have to deal with pressure. As many have pointed out it is obvious that Obama has no real experience of any kind and certainly no success stories unless you count the fact the MSM treats him like a rock star, and was never tested. Now he suddenly is confronted with a bit of pressure, this is not even such a big deal considering what awaits him in the WH, and he is unable to handle it already. Why would we trust the highest office on this planet, and one where this kind of weakness has potentially deadly consequences, to this guy? Is it not obvious that this guy has nothing but glamor and marxism to offer us? Carsh & burn Barack!

The problem for Obama is that this campaign is the hardest thing he’s ever had to do in his life. This is not the hardest thing McCain has had to do in his life.

Sep 12, 2008 - 8:35 am 7. Rusty:

Oh course Senator Obama will lose it! Watching him during interviews it’s almost painful to see how he has to be seen as right. When he disagrees with someone, he wants to “stop” and “set the record straight.” As he starts to slide in the polls and the democrats force him to go on the offensive and engage in one-on-one debates this will only get worse.

Sep 12, 2008 - 8:45 am 8. RE:

Sounds like a great topic for a Sanity Squad podcast! What happened to those anyway? I miss them.

It does appear that Obama lacks the required presidential demeanor. Granted, I’m opposed to Obama because everything in his past is hostile to traditional Ameircan values and our founding principles. But even putting that side, he does have an autocratic indignation at being challenged. This lack of self discipline seems ill suited for dealing with the adversity a president has to face on a daily basis.

The next few weeks should prove to be interesting.

You know what makes McCain look great and full of stamina? When he’s on the campaign trail wearing his Navy baseball cap and not wearing a suit.

The baseball cap yells “mensch!”

Obama would probably wear a Cubs hat, and tick off the Sox fans. Or maybe a Ralph Lauren Polo cap?

Sep 12, 2008 - 9:17 am 17. Kim Zigfeld:

I find it really deeply disturbing that anyone can even be asking this question about Obama, much less that there is no alternative for anyone but to take it seriously. If this is how Obama handles pressure, God only knows what would happen in the event of, say, an actual armed conflict.

By nominating Biden, Obama is admitting that he is totally lacking in foreign policy credentials, and that’s bad enough. But Obama is even more lacking in executive management credentials, meaning he is totally unfit to serve, and he’s not even trying to cover up that fact even as he attacks Sarah Palin, by far the most qualified executive in the field.

The Democratic Party is toying with the nation’s survival by nominating this man, something I have not seen occur in my whole life before now. Hopefully, the nation as a whole will come to its senses before it is too late.

Biden probably thinks that part of Obama’s “messiahiness” has been transfered to him and he can now heal paraplegics.

In fact, that’s probaly part of Obama’s health care plan, he go on the MSM and say “HEAL” to sick Americans and when they don’t he’ll blame them for the tax increases.

Obama has failed on so many character traits. It does not surprise me that the majority of American voters are, some slowly and others more quickly, choosing to support both McCain and Palin for President and Vice-President of the U.S.

It would only takes one misguided idea from Obama to lead astray the vital interests of the many. This, based on what has been revealed about Obama by himself and others, means Obama is NOT qualifed.

Down with Obama. Long live America!

Ok, so the big Obama ad is McCain doesn’t know how to use a computer. I think from what McCain actually said they’re stretching this a bit. Maybe McCain was to busy writing legislation, something Obama knows little about, to have time to surf the web. Maybe he’s to busy serving his country to have time for “World Of Warcraft”. Obama is starting to look pretty sad. Maybe McCain can give him some advice.

Obama is henpecked at home, as early interviews with Michelle (he snores, is “smelly in the morning, doesn’t pick up his socks) and the girls demonstrated: “Daddy doesn’t know how to do anything but talk.” as Michelle beamed approvingly.

Oprah and her Guru Eckhart Tolle convinced Obama he was, as Oprah said in one video clip: “THE ONE”. He’s “THE CHOSEN”, and now people are making fun of lines like “the oceans will recede”.

Gerard Baker in thetimesonline. wrote the best parody of “the child” and taught American comics how to laugh at Obama’s pomposity and arrogance. Then, along came Sarah Palin whose mockery was seen by close to 40 million people.

From demi-god to the butt of very funny jokes. No wonder, he’s crumbling.

as a “community organizer” he died on the cross as a Savior for me, for you and you not for a community but for a body, The Body Of Christ. Now some people will say that is a community but it goes a lot deeper then that. I’ll probably get attacked for saying this but it’s how I feel. Unless it’s for praise they should just keep his name out of it.

I want to say something really mean, and entirely unPC. The difference between McCain and Obama that we are all witnessing with shock and awe that neocon mentions can be boiled down to one factor – daddies. Obama’s was the classic womanizing slacker, who Obama later strangely idealized in his narcisstic biography, along with a hostile stepfather barely recognized. This left a huge gap in his psyche, an overweening desire to be loved, admired, appreciated that has driven his whole life. When that need is threatened, look out. Nasty happens. McCain’s was a strict disciplinarian, a military man who McCain admired and followed in his footsteps. In our feminized world, dads are underappreciated and even disdained, but the evidence stands horrifically before us of the difference they make.

I see a lot of the old gang here and some new comers as well. The comments are right on target. Since yesterday was 9/11 and the question was brought up about what Obama would do in a crisis, I am going to retell a story about our current President that says a lot about the man with the toughest job in the world. During the original 9/11 Pres. Bush was flown to Omaha, Neb. to STRATCOM where when things were at their craziest and he was trying to decided whether to shoot down planes full of innocent people, he was able to crack a joke on Sec. Rumfield about watching his language because a hundred fine young Americans were listening in”. That shows me the character that it takes to be President and Obama doesn’t have it.

Let us not forget that the “ultimate lever” the press is doing the dance that may turn on BHO. If his world is a ratings game, and Palin upends the press by being sincerely popular rather than manufactored, then the press turns on him like they did with Hilliary. Palin’s acceptance speech made it clear that she was taking her message to the people not the press. If she stays true to that tact, the MSM will implode, eat their own, and rug out under BHO.

Sep 12, 2008 - 12:11 pm 47. Rachel Peepers:

Barack finds himself in the position of most Democrats running for political office. They can’t say when they really believe. If they did, they wouldn’t get elected because they are philosophically as out of touch with mainstream America is the mainstream media is out of touch with most Americans.

And when you can’t speak to what you truly believe, the job is incredibly tougher. Your memory every minute of every day must be sharp as a Ginsu knife.

You’re in the position of a liar who has to remember every lie.

This is the strain Barack is under, and it’s the strain that’s getting him down. The SS Obama, like the German warship Bismark, is no longer the hunter, she’s the hunted.

Moreover, Barack knows that the media’s treatment of Sarah Palin is dealing a slow death blow to the media. They’re shooting their wad at Sarah, and when this election is over, the mainstream media’s credibility quotient will approach the number in Obama’s inner circle who now know what their creative strategy needs to be. Zero.

The first torpedo shot at the SS Barack was fired by McCain simply by selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate. But it hit above the water line so it wasn’t fatal. The second torpedo was fired by Palin at the convention, and caused The Obama to slightly list to one side.

The latest torpedo was fired not by the McCain crew by rather by Obama himself and was directed at the McCain’s sister ship, the Palin.

Obama indiscriminately fired a cheap shot; (she’s a pig) using a torpedo that missed. However, Obama, like the Russian sub commander in “The Hunt for Red October” turned off the time fuse so the torpedo keeps running till it finds a target.

Obama tried zigging and zagging, defending himself, saying he didn’t mean to take the shot at Palin, but most everybody, surely his audience, knew precisely what Obama meant; that Barack was calling Palin a pig.

Now women across the country are taking their own pot shots at Obama.

Obama and his two Daves are standing on the bridge of their damaged ship, and seeing ordinance being fired at them from all directions.

They can’t abandon ship.

Ordinarily they’d turn to Obama’s mouth to save them. Unfortunately, Obama’s Harvard Law trained mouth is what got them into trouble. The “Put lipstick on a pig and it’s still a pig torpedo, aimed at Palin, has found a secondary target; it’s about to blow the SS Obama right out of the water.

Sep 12, 2008 - 12:21 pm 48. Katherine Berry:

I’m of the opinion that Obama, growing up in the late 70s while attending predominately white institutions, received endless ego strokes and pampering for being so greatly different from the typical white’s stereotype of a young black man. (In this way, the educators and administrators at those institutions assured themselves they were diverse and not prejudice.)

Unfortunately, he seems to have bought into the coddling rather than seeing it for what it actually was. As such his “audacity” is really just an over-inflated ego, and these stumbles and the strain are just signs that he is, for the first time in his life, confronting the fact that he may not be all that.

I believe we are witnessing the meltdown and rebirth of the Democratic party. Meltdown, because this will likely be the last of the extremely liberal candidates they will run. Rebirth, because they are running conservative Democrats in the south this election, that will reshape the party back to the center.

We have a group of people in the Democratic party that despise your average American and feel quite superior towards them. When they are outvoted, they scream fraud. The anger being displayed is due to their realization that it just may happen again and that’s why they are blaming it on Bush/Rove, even through they are not involved in this campaign. You may wonder why so many Americans are willing to vote for Obama. I wonder why the Democratic party is seen as the party of the “working man”.

However… “IF” by Rudyard Kipling, is in fact a great poem. The fact that it seems now cliche is
tribute to its staying power and its truth. Perhaps Lefties prefer more nuanced stuff (e.e. cummings
comes to mind) but I am not ashamed to prefer poems that rhyme and are readily understood.
We can all agree, I think, that Obama et al are in trouble by simply watching the apoplexy on the
part of the MSM and Lefty pundits. The long promised removal of the evil Republicans to which
they believe they are entitled has been threatened, perhaps postponed, perhaps cancelled altogether.

Sure, he made some mistakes – who wouldn’t? BUT Obama would try to talk the other countries into being our buds and that’s why so many other countries would love to have him in that office……I truly fear we would be overrun in no time.

When Obama disagrees with someone, he just presses him / her down with his “personality” (how was it again? gentle smile, firm voice and self-confidence? – like it worked with his mother) And the MSM, being in love with him, gratefully buy it.

But then comes O’Reily, and we see a completely different guy, very agressive (”Respect my authoritaaahhh!” – Eric Cartman, community organizer), hardly controlling his temper. And we see how difficult it is for him to keep smiling and to speak firmly and be self-confident. He would like to send O’Reily to the GULAG, but not now, he’ll do it later. Now he just has to interrupt him, and again, and again. But how can you interrupt O’Reily. OMG, I can understand everything, but these constant attempts to touch O’Reily’s knee were really disgusting.

The guy is old enough to be your father, Barack! And you meet him for the first time in your life! What about high moral standards of the Democratic party, recently applied to Bristol Palin?

Is this your way to work under pressure? Will you touch Putin’s knee too? Will you pet Ahmadinejad’s hand? OMG, I just don’t wanna know what will you do with Chavez. Barack, Barack, Barack, you naughty boy!

The election what can I say. My one thing that I keep hearing is about this bridge to nowhere. They keep bringing this up over and over but the one thing that they forget to talk about is that when the bridge to nowhere was killed OBAMA AND BIDEN (democratic party) you know the party that keeps saying they are for the poor and working class. Yes that party. Well when Obama and Biden had the chance to help New Orleans people who really needed help by taking some of the money from the bridge to nowhere and send it to New Orleans and help with rebuilding they voted NO. So my question to all the in a panic democrats who continue to attack the number 2 person Gov. Palen well that smells desperation. Gov. Palen has more experience by being a mayor and then a Governor of a state. He has been well not sure since he has been ignoring his duties for the past 2 years to campaign for President. So but it is funny to watch the panic and feeding frenzy over a mother, wife, mayor and governor and now the vp choice. It would really be funny if they were not so desperate and vivicous.
It will be interesting to see just how desperate they become as the election gets closer. Oh what does McCain not being able to email have to do with the election. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

So guys remember Obama and Biden are for the working class but when given the chance to put their money where their mouth is they vote NO

I’m waiting for Biden, I took his remark that Hillary was better qualified as a hint, to drop out and for Hillary to take the VP slot to save the ticket. It could still happen. Obama just doesn’t have the gravitas to continue without a bigger gun than Biden paired with him.

Watching him in action and waiting for a coherent specific answer on policy is like trying to nail jello to a tree. He’s a disaster.

Sadly, we live in a very superficial world where a plastic inept fool like Obama goes unchallenged by too many. Scary, but, he may very well win.

Neo-neocon,
My dad always used to recite that poem to me, or rather small parts of it. It’s very apropos. I think the only way Obama is going to get his momentum back is if there is something to this Troopergate thing. Then Palin goes down and McCain goes down with her, Obama’s hands are clean, and he can just stand back and watch the implosion. Otherwise, I don’t think he can do it — that is, unless somehow Biden is dropped from the ticket and Hillary joins. (I can’t rule that out as a possibility.)

Sep 12, 2008 - 7:45 pm 79. Rachel Peepers:

Gang,

Just for fun, let’s pretend it’s 9am, Saturday morning, September 13th and you’re sitting around the conference table with Barack, Michelle, Dave Axelrod, Dave
Plouffe, maybe Joe Biden and a few more campaign bigwigs.

Axelrod’s the first to talk.

Dave, (to Plouffe who’s eating a donut) Have our lawyers up north turned up anything?(dirt on Palin)

Plouffe: Not so far.

Barack: Look, she was a beauty queen. Surely, there’s some dirt hiding there. Affairs. Sex with staffers. Talk to the girls she beat. I bet you’ll find an ax to grind somewhere.

Axelrod: Been there, done that. Came up empty.

Michelle: Well, Thursday night Gibson made her look dumb. Uninformed. Let’s hammer her on that this coming week.

Plouffe: She doesn’t bruise easily.

Barack: Then use a sledgehammer.

ANYWAY, that’s how I, Rachel, envision today’s (Saturday’s) meeting. Actually, it should be a strategy meeting, but they’re so tangled up in their own underwear, they won’t be talking strategy at all. Because the gang that can’t shoot straight has lost its strategic way.

They need to define an objective, and then develop an overall plan for achieving it.

For example, say you have a headache brand whose bottle has been compromised. Somebody’s added poison to the capsules, and thirty people have died as a result.

Do you take your brand off the market.

If so, then what’s your strategy for reintroducing extra strength Tylanol once you’re sure it won’t happen again.

Do you decide to attack other extra strength headache brands? Do you become a “Value Jet” and change your name?

You want to start selling extra strength Tylanol again, so how do you achieve that objective?

Back to politics:
After Palin was selected by McCain, the Dave boys initial knee jerk reaction was to have the mainstream media hone in on Sarah Palin’s apparent weaknesses. It became the major focus of Barack’s campaign. In reality, it should have been a minor side issue.

In reality the overall strategy should have been to…….
wait, I’m not about to throw breadcrumbs to show Obama the way.

Let him try to figure it out for himself.

So, Barack, my friend, what’s your next step? Whatever you guys decide, though, you better be careful because the McCain boys have placed landmines every three feet or so. Think the
Saddleback Church Obama fiasco was simply a matter of serendipity?

The Barack team walked into that with their eyes closed.

FUZZY: “Hoppy, it’s quiet. Too Quiet.”
HOPPY: I’m way ahead of you, pardna. That’s why we’ll tie the horses here and go in on foot.
FUZZY: Ya dern tootin’.

Tah Tah,
Rachel

McCain may have been broken by the North Vietnamese (was everyone as shocked as I to hear that?), but he survived and it made him the man he is. He is like steel forged in fire. Obama has never been tested. Now that he is being tested, he is squealing like a girly man. That is the problem with Dems – they cry and whine and play victims. McCain and Palin are not victims or criers.

Obama is a creation of the MSM and the Left. Now the MSM and the Left are helping to drag him down. It’s like watching a huge death spiral. This won’t end well for the party in its current incarnation but it sure has helped the Republicans. Just over 2 weeks ago we were in our own death spiral…

Barack Obama has to be buckling under the pressure.

Yesterday, Barack got a brainstorm. He decided to put out a commercial saying John McCain had such an old mind that
he doesn’t even know how to send an email.

Barack conveniently forgot that the reason McCain doesn’t send emails is because his fingers were crushed so badly during torture that he can’t type to use a keyboard.

Barack, it’s okay. You don’t have to apologize.

I’m sure America likes it when our tortured, disabled war heroes are the butt of your jokes.

A tortured war hero comes home who can’t use a keyboard, and a candidate for President, Barack Obama, thinks it’s a good idea for a commercial. Barack, did you laugh when you saw the rough cut? How about Michelle? Did Miss Prune Face turn into Miss Happy Face?

Well, let me tell you, if it tickled your funny bone, you’ve got one unusual sense of humor. Laughing at a guy who was tortured so completely that every bone in his body was broken.

Barack, permit me to ask you one more question. How funny do you think it would be to lose an election?

On second thought, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. Hey, if you’re ever out of work, maybe you and Michael Richards can team up and do some stand up together. Find a guy with a bad limp, and you guys would be in business.

I mean, funny as a crutch.

You right-wing pinheads just cannot grasp the fact that Obama will win because, not only has he made himself to be a personna upon whom we all may project our own hopes and dreams upon, but he is the very reflection of ourselves as Americans. McCain and Palin make us so uncomfortable because, not only do they reflct a reacionary political ideology that should have died with Churchill, but they are so out of touch because they are like, some wax dummies drug out of the 1830’s or something. They’re scary! Obama is so metrosexual!

He consoles us. Perhaps it is the kind of mellowness, the weakness, even the bitchiness, we all see that is so , endearing andbecoming. Hey, like, we can identify with that. If a guy like Obama can be President, maybe I can become a lawyer and make 500,000 a year without even making abouve a 70 in college. And in case you throwbacks still don’t get it, most of us never had fathers either too. And that’s so cool! Fathers are just male oppresion and authority. “How incompetent must a candidate be to take the extraordinary advantages of an unpopular president and party, a relatively weak economy and a fawning, thoroughly biased national media and turn them all into a slight polling deficit??!!”

It’s not the candidate, it’s the Democratic party. And, to an equal extent, it’s the extremists in the Democratic party (the Kos people, for example) that dooms their candidates during these elections. They try to please the screamers instead of connecting with the group that basically decides every election – white, middle-class, independant voters who live in flyover country. The Democrats just run idiotic national campaigns, lose, read the exit polling data to figure out why their guy lost (wow, Americans are concerned with VALUES? Religion is IMPORTANT?), and then forget every lesson they learn by the next election.

“About this Jesus thing…Pontius Pilate (read Palin)and the pharisees(republicans?) crucified Jesus Christ (Obama). In the Biblical accounts, they skinned Christ alive and hung Christ on a cross. Why would liberals really want to continue this analogy?”

Because the closest that most of them have ever come to a Bible is when they stay in a hotel and open the top bureau drawer and see one sitting there. I always get a laugh when the ’seperation of church and state’ crowd starts making biblical references. It’s a sure sign they’re in trouble. Didn’t Al Gore once refer to The Virgin Mary as a single mother? Or was she homeless? It was one of those. Anyway, he was campaigning for President, he tried to look cool by going Bible on everyone, and he missed by a mile. Also, since liberals don’t read the Bible, I think they assume that noone else does, either. This is what we’re dealing with…

Sep 13, 2008 - 7:04 pm 111. Helen:

We must remember this, the façade we have been looking at was long blown by his wife who repeatedly put Obama down early on in the campaign. This was before his campaign told her to get with the program and act adoring. Remember, Michelle my belle said that the man everybody is swooning about is not the man she knows; she wants to get to know that Obama.

So, don’t be surprised if the man we’re seeing now is Obama as he is, not only buckling under pressure but basically a weak man who esteems that his mere presence is enough to garner him the thing without him working for it (Columbia College possibly). What we’re seeing is a man who lacks long distance resources, lacks the inner grit and mental toughness to go the long mile. Perhaps we should make being a fighter pilot a requirement of the presidency (GHW, GW and McCain).

For the longest while, I’ve been listening to Obama’s tones when he speaks. What he says is usually inconsequential, so I listen to his tones to obtain a sense of the man. What I hear is that the man has the rhetorical disposition of a heckler. He likes to zap his opponents with what he considers ambiguously vicious one-liners accompanied sometimes by action (perceived by some to be also ambiguous, but usually isn’t). His voice carries a certain tone when he’s doing it; it’s almost as though he wants to be laughing but isn’t. That tone is his tell. That tone is also not there when he’s engaged in his high flights of empty oration.

Obama’s tones tell me that he’s basically an unserious man who has no genuine idea of what to do once he gets what he wants. He’s in his comfort zone when he’s in heckling mode.

Outsize of that zone and lacking the mental resources to go the distance when confronted with unexpected obstacles, it’s no surprise we see him folding.

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO COMPARE THE QUESTIONS GIBSON ASKED OF OBAMA TO THE QUESTIONS GIBSON ASKED OF PALIN GO HERE:

http://theanchoressonline.com/2008/09/12/side-by-side-gibson-questions-more/

and you can easily see the different treatment Obama receives. He has been getting a pass from the MSM and Gibson during his entire campaign.

I would like to point something out: we DO NOT have affirmative action for airline pilots. we DO NOT have affirmative action for brain surgeons, rocket scientists, nuclear physicists, bomb disposal technicians, snipers, or anything else that requires observable and provable results. We don’t give CPAs to applicants who don’t pass the tests.

And by God, we shouldn’t give any person running for president a break. Palin hasn’t gotten a break, not one. Obama’s gotten more breaks than he can count. The press has let the entire country down, and we don’t believe them any more.

Joe: your observation that: “… liberals don’t read the Bible (and) …. assume that no one else does, either;”

Is precisely “what we’re dealing with.”

On the other hand, the fact they don’t — and project that fact on to everyone else — gives us the best clue to having insite into every aspect of the Socialist Psychosis.

For they project their psychopathology with their every opening of one of their mouths. And while we may (please, please, Dear Lord!) never understand whatever manifestation of evil motivates and drives them, we may thus easily examine it, become acquainted with it, be able to recognize its sufferers — and be thus ever armed against them and it.

Actually, the questions weren’t the worst part (in my opinion). Read the transcript, and see what was cut from her answers on the first night.

See what ABC knew she said, and then what they broadcast her as saying.

http://marklevinshow.com/gibson-interview/

Somehow I doubt Obama or Biden has faced both a hostile interview, and a hostile editing staff from one of the networks.

After seeing that, it’s amazing that Palin even looked halfway decent on the aired interviews.

But don’t take my word for it. Read the transcript for yourself.

You could say he was either unaware of how the lipstick comment would be taken or that he did it deliberately without caring.

There’s a third psychological interpretation: that the ‘coincidence’ of the lipstick adage is like the ‘coincidence’ of the Biden VP text message arriving at 3 am, of all the times in the day — no coincidence at all.

Rather, it was a pattern of passive-aggressive behavior toward female opponents, where he does something that sends them an obvious middle finger but is just deniable enough that he can then do what passive-aggressive types do — call the other person crazy when they get the message (”You thought I was talking about you? You’re imagining things. You’re crazy!”)

To those of you who have family, friends, or relatives in the Armed Forces serving in Afghanistan or Iraq. It is imperative that I mention these facts below to you. I welcome you all to do your own research on this or Google it.

For a man to be an ex POW in Vietnam who has endured so much torture and punishment and who promotes “Country First” on his campaign, his history should lead him to do better for his fellow men and women in the Armed Forces but here are the FACTS below —

1) For every GI Bill that is proposed to Congress in favor of more spending for the protection of our troops, both in Afghanistan and Iraq, McCain has voted AGAINST it and Obama has voted FOR it.
2) For every GI Bill that is proposed to Congress in favor of deploying more armor and artillery for our troops, both in Afghanistan and Iraq, McCain has voted AGAINST it and Obama has voted FOR it.
3) For every GI Bill that is proposed to Congress in favor of giving more compensation and more medical benefits to our injured troops returning from Afghanistan and Iraq, McCain has voted AGAINST it and Obama has voted FOR it.
4) For every GI Bill that is proposed to Congress in favor of giving more compensation to our veterans of all the past wars, McCain has voted AGAINST it and Obama has voted FOR it.

Please look over these FACTS and do your own research. For a man to promote character, wisdom, and the love for his country; the facts don’t coincide with this man.

This Election 2008 is a colorless election. It is about two human beings that want to lead our country, either in the right direction or in the wrong direction. We have lived the wrong direction for 8 years and have been in the wrong side of history throughout that time. Do we want to live it again?

Uh-Bama knew what he was saying, the same way he scratched himself on the cheek with his middle finger while referring to Hillary, and then had to fight back cracking up when his audience started laughing because they knew exactly what Uh-Bama did, and why.

Uh-Bama’s a man whose mentors have been a CPUSA leader, race-victim preachers, rich kid domestic terrorists, Tony Rezko and the Chicago political machine. His two private initiatives were a slum and a doomed education scheme, both putting millions into the hands of Rezko and Ayers.

Arriana Huffington says that Obama is about to “release his rage.” No more Mr. Nice Guy. He will not insult anymore with raised middle fingers and thinly velied references to female porcines. Now he’s going to get tough. The warrior is about to be released. He will not be cowed by middle America’s racist refusal to see that we are the change we have been hoping for.

Sep 14, 2008 - 4:12 am 120. Ed Wallis:

Hey “schnarg”

…I guess that means he’ll still be insulting the disabled and veterans, right?!

If you’re right, Zerobama must be getting in touch with his Inner Diaper, because his Inner Charlatan hasn’t helped much…

Your really seem to think, in your words, “He will not be cowed by middle America’s racist refusal to see that we are the change we have been hoping for,” that tomorrow belongs to you…

All that remains for Zerobama and his followers are the insults, the threats, and the “rage.”

Mass Slogans (Hope’n'Change), mass hand salutes(“O”) and a whiny candidate do NOT “unity” make.

PATHETIC.

Sep 14, 2008 - 5:25 am 121. Lupe from Phoenix:

I have never commented on anything in this forum, but this subject is very important to me. I think that you are right that Obama is in serious trouble, but I see the reason for this a little differently than you do.

Of course a LOT of it is the MSM. During the primaries, Obama won early on, before anyone knew anything about his proposed policies. Then, when people started catching on, Hillary started winning – too late (of course). But – if you remember, during the debates (that the MSM said Obama won), he would wait until Hillary said what she proposed, and then he would agree with her, but he would change it slightly. He was never able to put his proposals out there first.

Now with McCain/Palin, they are hammering his ideas but they aren’t giving specifics on their ideas. It is because of this that Obama can’t just steal their ideas and claim them as his own.

Obama doesn’t have any original ideas of his own! The American people will soon realize this, and McCan/Palin will win the election. He has claimed the title of “the candidate of change,” but the MSM has given him a pass and have not even asked what changes he has brought about – other than his business address. He talks about the “do-nothing Congress,” but he hopes that people will forget that he is part of that group. In other words, he has done nothing since he was elected to that office – nothing that is, other than taking 2 years to campaign for a different office. Is that what the tax-payers are paying him for? I don’t think so.

I think that it is time for the MSM to start doing their jobs and try to find out who this “CHOSEN ONE” really is, and if he has ANY new ideas of his own, or whether he is just an empty suit or someone’s puppet.

Sorry for the long rant. I just had to get all that out. I feel better now.

Sep 14, 2008 - 6:48 pm 122. Jack:

Hey Jeff, can you say earmarks?

For every bill Uh-Bama voted for their were earmarks to pay off his supporters.

Every bill has earmarks, Uh Bama can’t have a bill without earmarks.

SENATOR OBAMA,PLEASE GIVE AMERICA ~ A DOSE OF REALITY CONCERNING THIS US HORROR ???

LETS ALL HOPE OUR MEDIA FRIENDS CONTINUE TO ALSO SHOW AN INTEREST IN REPORTING ON THIS AMERICAN HORROR FACING THESE (TENS OF THOUSANDS) FORGOTTEN AND TRAPPED POORER AMERICANS, AND HOW THIS PRESIDENTIAL CONTENDER HANDLES THIS VERY SERIOUS ISSUE FACING AMERICA’S LATINO AND BLACK AMERICAN COMMUNITIES ????

WITH 80% OF THE BLACK AMERICAN VOTERS SAYING THEY SUPPORT SENATOR OBAMA IN THIS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, IT IS ONLY FAIR FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW PRIOR BEING ELECTED OUR NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HOW THIS DEMOCRATIC SENATOR TRULY FEELS ABOUT THIS AMERICAN JUDICIAL HORROR CONTINUING TO INFLICT GRAVE HARM ON THE BLACK AMERICAN FAMILIES AND THEIR COMMUNITIES NATIONWIDE ??????

*** WHEN GOD’S FACE BECAME VERY RED ***
THE US SUPREME COURT GAVE ENEMY COMBATANTS FEDERAL APPEAL HC RIGHTS LAWYERS AND PROPER ACCESS TO US FEDERAL COURTS,AND POORER AMERICANS (MANY EVEN ON DEATH ROW) ARE DENIED PROPER FEDERAL APPEAL LEGAL REPRESENTATION TO OUR US FEDERAL COURTS OF APPEAL, AND ROTTING IN AMERICAN PRISONS NATIONWIDE ?????????

***THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE $LOWLY FINDING OUT HOW EA$Y IT I$ FOR MIDDLE CLA$$ AND WORKING POOR AMERICAN$ TO FALL VICTIM TO OUR U$ MONETARY JUDICIAL $Y$TEM.

****WHEN THE US INNOCENT WERE ABANDONED BY THE GUILTY ****
The prison experts have reported that there are 100,000 innocent Americans currently being falsely imprisoned along with the 2,300,000 total US prison population nationwide.

Since our US Congress has never afforded poor prison inmates federal appeal legal counsel for their federal retrials, they have effectively closed the doors on these tens of thousands of innocent citizens ever being capable of possibly exonerating themselves to regain their freedom through being granted new retrials.

This same exact unjust situation was happening in our Southern States when poor and mostly uneducated Black Americans were being falsely imprisoned for endless decades without the needed educational skills to properly submit their own written federal trial appeals.

**INNOCENT AMERICANS ARE DENIED REAL HC RIGHTS WITH THEIR FEDERAL APPEALS !!
This devious and deceptive judicial process of making our poor and innocent prison inmates formulate and write their own federal appeal legal cases for possible retrials on their state criminal cases,is still in effect today even though everyone in our US judicial system knows that without proper legal representation, these tens of thousands of innocent prison inmates will be denied their rightful opportunities of ever being granted new trials from our federal appeal judges!!

Sadly, the true US *legal* Federal Appeal situation that occurs when any of our uneducated American prison inmates are forced to attempt to submit their own written Federal Appeals (from our prisons nationwide) without the assistance of proper legal counsel, is that they all are in reality being denied their legitimate rights for Habeas Corpus and will win any future Supreme Court Case concerning this injustice!

For our judicial system and our US Congressional Leaders Of The Free World to continue to pretend that this is a real and fair opportunity for our American Middle Class and Working Poor Citizens, only delays the very needed future change of Federal Financing of all these Federal appeals becoming a normal formula of Our American judicial system.

It was not so very long ago that Public Defenders became a Reality in this country.Prior that legal reality taking place, their were also some who thought giving anyone charged with a crime a free lawyer was a waste of taxpayers $$.

This FACADE and HORROR of our Federal Appeal proce$$ is not worthy of the Greatest Country In The World!

Try reaching Obama after November 4. He’ll be looking for something to do. I know he’s a Senator, but he really hasn’t done a thing since he got there a few years ago. So he’ll definitely have the time.

And he does have a law degree. I think he represented his friends at ACORN at one time. So he’ll recognize criminal behavior.

I’m sure he’ll be happy to help those prisoners. You’ve heard him say how much people in need mean to him. Just ask the folks in Chicago. They’ll tell you how selfless he’s been.

With all his great connections to powerful, well-connected people there, he’s done wonders for education reform, public housing and even (board member)Michelle saw to it that the poor, uninsured patients at her Chicago hospital weren’t charged more than 500% over costs.

Yep. You can count on those two — they’re lookin’ out for you!
