Islamist Chickens Roosting in America’s Backyard
Think America is fighting Islamists in Iraq and Afghanistan so we don't have to battle them here? Actually, we are fighting their poisonous ideology at home as well.
In the very real war on terror, a nosy squabble over “fighting them there so we don’t have to fight them here” clouds a simple truth: namely, that “they” are here already. Indeed, Islamists are busy constructing a wing of jihad in America’s backyard.
A potential audience of one million Arab-speaking cable subscribers of Time Warner in the greater New York area can feast on the Arabic Channel known as TAC to choose a menu that includes:
- A daily dose of Islamic jurisprudence from a sheik — most often Egyptian Amr Khaled, who wears a suit instead of a robe, advocating “peaceful jihad.” He opines on how it is the duty of Arab-Americans to become first, second, and always members of the Muslim ummah. The softness of his jihad-chic demeanor belies its exclusionary message: segregation of Arab-American Muslims from fellow Americans.
- TAC also serves a nightly diet of Syrian TV News, direct from Damascus with Syria’s view of the world. In this diatribe of analysis and disinformation, Iraq is an American butchery, the Zionist regime of Israel is destined for obliteration, and Syria is the greatest gift to the “Arab cause.”
- For entertainment there is a sprinkling of pseudo-historic soap operas about the old Muslim empire of Europe. In Ramadan, the month-long fasting period, this proselytizing is revved up to new levels of intensity, removing footage of belly dancing and other “infidel” joys from the steady fare of old Egyptian movies.
On its website, TAC says it is now 14 years old and serves the “Greater New York City Metropolitan area, including Jersey City, Bergen County, NJ, and Mt. Vernon, NY.”
The unanswered questions are who is funding it, what keeps it going, and what is TAC’s mission description. What is clear is its unmistakable Islamist revolutionary footprint.
A similar Trojan vehicle once quietly thriving in America until shut down by presidential order in 2001 was the infamous Holy Land Foundation, recently prosecuted without success by the American government.
In the failed trial of its handlers, the U.S. District Court in Dallas charged the foundation chapters with collecting $57 million for radical Islamic causes and using the money for direct or indirect donations to terrorist organizations, including Hamas. A new trial is pending. Already known, however, are the group’s ties to Islamist donors in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE and its cozy relations with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a front for the worldwide Muslim Brotherhood movement in the U.S.
Very much part of the same “process” was the famed Khalil Gibran School of Brooklyn, NY, a saga in which a militant Islamist public school system principal disguised a project for a madrassa entity funded with public funds under the guise of multiculturalism and teaching Arabic. It was stopped by a coalition of concerned New Yorkers, but a much bigger project by Saudi Arabia to fund Islamic Saudi academies since 1984 has been thriving in Virginia and elsewhere in Europe.
The common task is to instill the notion among Arab-Americans or European immigrant communities of Muslim countries that they are not part of secular multicultural societies. Targeted Americans are instructed on how to trim their layered diversified Arab heritage to a common denominator — one veiled enveloping Islam.
For those American Muslims who do not understand Arabic, there is the new Al-Jazeera in English, whose somewhat slick broadcasters hammer the notion of a flawed, unjust, decadent America and West.
American law enforcement is getting pretty good at spotting violent transmutations that may result from this ideological brainwashing, but has no tools, nor a body of laws, to stop or intercept the implantation process. Nor are there any identifiable, or standout, “moderates” — especially among successful Muslim professionals — to reverse the trend.
Yaroslav Trofimov of the Wall Street Journal, who authored Faith at War and the impressive Siege of Mecca, traveling widely in the Muslim world noted: “Often, those with the most bloodthirsty ideas were the well-to-do and the privileged who have had some experience with the West, not the downtrodden and ignorant masses.” Remember that privileged millionaire engineer and highly educated fellow Osama bin Laden or his equally elitist number two Ayman al-Zawahri, a doctor, physician, lecturer, and surgeon?

May 4, 2008 - 1:38 am 2. M.E.:The observations of Trofimov as well as the author’s article – ““Often, those with the most bloodthirsty ideas were the well-to-do and the privileged who have had some experience with the West, not the downtrodden and ignorant masses.” Remember that privileged millionaire engineer and highly educated fellow Osama bin Laden or his equally elitist number two Ayman al-Zawahri, a doctor, physician, lecturer, and surgeon?” – corresponds perfectly to the communist propaganda, for which in past were spent astronomic sums of money. The result: the collapse of the communist system. The actual communist rule in China is more decorative than real, because Chinese economy is not more socialist or collectivist but quite capitalist. The communist penetration in American Universities and even in administrative structures was much more profound than the present Islamic influence. The communist, national-socialist and Islamist ideologies have the same totalitarian negative essence. They fight against the History wishing to stop it in a fixed point. That is the immanent weakness of all totalitarian ideologies. The History is like a flow that cannot be impeded. I’m not optimist, but laws exist for everything and for everybody. These laws are not Marxist or Islamist and cannot be changed for a fancy a Stalin, a Hitler o a Bin Laden.

Although i have to say i did notice in some news item or other that there is Colonel Trofimov in the FSB, and that is pretty much how these guys operate – also note that the State Dept. documents at the time which Trofimov provides shows that STate assumed the Siege was being conducted with Russian help or at the behest of Russia as part of its well-documented campaign to turn the Islamic world against the USA, so that might be worth consdiering….

May 4, 2008 - 10:18 am 12. Thomas-in-Newport:A true follower if Islam can NOT be a true American. Why?? A true follower of Islam can not allow the worship of GOD by another faith, unless they pay a tax to Islam. And then it can only be Jews and Christians (people of the book). Buddhism will not be allowed. Wicca’s will be put converted to Islam or put to death. Atheists will be converted or put to death.
They are only allowed to vote for the person that their “spiritual” leaders tell them to and it must be the Muslim, if one is running for office.
A true follow of Islam will not allow separation of church and state. They can not allow freedom of speech or thought. They can not allow open capitalism and the free exchange of goods.
May 4, 2008 - 10:44 am 13. tanstaafl:The notions of “first and only identification with the ummah” and integration into any given western, secular society are mutually exclusive.
The point of today’s propaganda surge (financed by some in Saudi Arabia, UAE, et al.) is that it is incumbent upon any Arab/Muslim westerner to recognize and acknowledge where his or her first identity lies. And that is not with the culture and democratic processes of the western society in which said individual finds himself living.
The gradual infestation of Islam (and the determination, with great patience, to make that a reality) is, to some extent, more dangerous than obvious and violent jihad.

I would hope that this is because America is still a country where people are still free to speak their minds about whatever they please. Ideas do not kill people, and when we begin to impose restrictions on ideas because of things people MIGHT do, then we have presumed ourselves more sage and just than the individual at hand.

I remember my daughter, after a brief visit to Indonesia, said she could not leave fast enough – it was that repeated call, especially, that had her hightailing it out of there.
I’m sure she’s awfully glad she has her years at Oxford behind her. I believe they’re still in discussions with the local Mosque about limiting the call to a mere three times a day.

…a ‘good’ idea.
All this would lead to is justification for what happened to the Japanese living in America at the outset of WWII. Only THIS time it would be MORE ‘justified’, as it would be based on actual attacks instead of the suspicion of possible attacks.
Furthermore, if it was suspected that such a group was planning a Tom Clancy event, a la Sum of All Fears, I suspect that all gloves would come off. And if such an event DID happen, no administration could stand without turning Iran or Syria or some other part of the Middle East into a virtual plain of glass. Not to forget what would happen to Muslims in this country.
For years, since 9/11, we’ve been talking about the lack of ‘presence’ of so-called ‘moderate’ Muslims. We’ve suggested that THEY need to take action to clean up their religion’s ‘act’. If they fail to do so, who will step up to take on the responsibility? Especially after an act of mass murder? Politically correct law enforcement? I kind of doubt it.
It’s a hard decision to make, but one has to ‘think the whole thing through…….’

Islam isn’t necessarily incompatible with democracy, and more than Christianity. If you actually read the Bible, there are many very warlike and cruel instructions which modern Christian civilization is content to ignore, while still being Christian.
The problem with the Islamic world isn’t that it’s Islamic per se, it’s the dictators who are using Islam as a tool to externalize blame for their people’s crappy lives away from themselves. Islam, as written in the Koran, is only marginally more violent than Christianity.
May 4, 2008 - 3:03 pm 19. venividivici:Ideas do not kill people, and when we begin to impose restrictions on ideas because of things people MIGHT do, then we have presumed ourselves more sage and just than the individual at hand.
That depends. When the ideas are meant to persuade, you are right that they don’t “kill people”, because the ideas might not be persuasive enough to lead to that kind of drastic action. Hence, ideologies that have lead to killing have also faded over time as their persuasiveness fades due to changing conditions in the real world.
However, when the words are meant to lay a responsbility on an individual, I do think that ideas “kill people”. Islam has a notion that jihad, violent or stealth or what have you, can become a “responsibility” if the Muslim ummah is threatened. As they say, “look it up”.
Think about the Mafia. Their swearing of a code leads them to kill where there is no direct personal gain to be had, because saying the words puts a responsibility on them to act.
To say the least, this is not an idea I am comfortable with.
I’m not comfortable with it “in general”, but I am comfortable with it in the context of Islam. The entire damn “religion” is based on conquering and enslaving non-Muslims. To use another analogy, I let my dog walk around my house, but if I had a pet scorpion, I’d keep it in a cage.

This proves that Islam has no significant presence in America.
The day Islam gets to a significant critical mass, is the day that these feminists change their tune and beg the strong men of the military and police to protect them. It is the day NOW and other feminist groups focus their efforts on fighting Islam.
That this has not happened yet alone tells us that Islam has not made any headway.

May 4, 2008 - 4:30 pm 25. venividivici:[Reality. What a concept.]
If you actually read the Bible, there are many very warlike and cruel instructions which modern Christian civilization is content to ignore, while still being Christian.
This is because the Bible reflects the idea that humanity is in an ongoing conversation with God, such that as times change, our interpretation of what God wants from us can change. In Islam, Mohammed is the final prophet with the final word, so ignoring it is not an option, although when you read Muslim advice websites, you see that they spend an inordinate amount of energy trying to find loopholes in the arbitrary laws Mohammed laid down.
Islam, as written in the Koran, is only marginally more violent than Christianity.
Yeah, right, and I’ve got a bridge I can sell you over in Brooklyn. Please, every other verse of the Koran is about smiting and beheading. The most violent aspect of Christianity, in its canonical texts at least, is the Apocalyptic vision at the end. Even there, Islam at least matches Christianity in its violent vision of the coming of the Mahdi to fight alongside Jesus and all of the other eschatological features of the Islamic Judgement Day.
See, this is exactly the kind of tripe Westerners get fed from Islamic apologists who take advantage of the fact that we don’t know what’s actually in the Bible or the Koran. But, like the animals in Animal Farm, enough Westerners are brain-dead from the bleating of “Non-West good, West bad” to make it all seem so plausible. Nevermind that the estimates of non-Muslims killed by Muslims in jihad over the centuries runs to over a quarter of a billion people, a number which Christianity can’t even hold a candle to. “Marginally”, indeed.
May 4, 2008 - 4:43 pm 26. tanstaafl:Turkey. It’s a democracy, and it’s Islamic.
The observation seems simplistic.
There are many in Turkey, as we speak, who want Ataturk’s version of a Turkish secularism/democracy to meet a timely demise. There are women who are agitating to wear the headscarf as they attend university classes, where the headscarf has been disallowed.
Islam is hugely dismissive of “democracy” and the notion that personal, individual freedoms attach to an individual, any individual. You do not have free will, you have only submission to God’s prescribed and proscribed laws. There is great pressure to turn Turkey into an Islamic Republic, a la Iran.
It does not wash to compare the fact that Christianity has been violent in the past and that the Bible contains bellicose passages to the agenda of worldwide ummah/radical Islam in the here and now.
An individual caught up in such thinking can say…what’s the big deal ? It’s all the same.
It’s not…all the same. Some reading of bin laden screeds or Mohammed Atta’s diary could bring home the point that it’s not…all the same.

Absolute bunk, junk & crap, aside from the fact that your statement is incomprehensible. I get it that it’s some sort of apologia for Islam, but you apparently slept late for an entire semester and missed your classes in both Logic and Exposition.
“If you actually read the Bible, there are many very warlike and cruel instructions which modern Christian civilization is content to ignore, while still being Christian.”
Apparently the next time you read the New Testament will be the first time (it’s the ‘Christian’ part of the Bible). I suggest you start with the Old Testament (perhaps you just looked at the pictures?) and work your way forward. Compare/contrast. Begin. We’ll let you know when to put the pencil down.
As for whether one or the other is more suitable for democracy, the implementation of Sharia slams the deomcratic door shut, despite what you think you’re seeing in Iran and Gaza/West Bank.
May 4, 2008 - 6:09 pm 31. B.B.:Islam is not a religion in the normal sense like Buddhism, Hinduism or Christianism. It is a typical political doctrine like communism and national-socialism. The Koran can be considered as the ante prima of Hitler’s “Mein Kampf”. In fact, it is nothing more than a delirium tremens of fight against the unfaithful of the founder of this religion that knows neither love nor mercy, but only hatred and revenge.
The essence of Islam is expressed in its attitude to the unbelievers: “A Muslim owes everything to the ummah (sect, nation, group), very little to others. He has no obligations, moral or spiritual, toward non-Muslims as part of the human race, except to convert them by sword, spoils, and jizyA (the poll tax paid by polytheists). For example, sincerity is a universal human value, and we should exercise it in our relations with one another irrespective of creed and nationality. But in Islam, it is limited to Muslims” (Ram Swarup “Understending Islam through Hadis”: http://voiceofdharma.org./books/uith/).
So in this religion not only natural human liberty is negated but also and above all the essential unity of the human race. All non-Muslims are excluded from any human and moral consideration. One can defraud, rob, torture, murder, all is permissible when performed against non-Muslim. Any action, the most abominable and repugnant, will be devout and praiseworthy, if it is done in the name of Allah and of his Prophet.
Some information for feminists (from http://voiceofdharma.org./books/uith/):
“A woman’s social and legal disabilities, and even her differential biological constitution and functions, are interpreted in terms of her moral inferiority for which Allah has rightly punished her. In his Counsel for Kings, Al-GhazzAlI (A.D. 1058-1111), a famous Arab divine of his time, says that “Allah, He be praised, punished women with eighteen things”: (1) menstruation; (2) childbirth; (3) separation from parents and marriage to a stranger; (4) pregnancy; (5) not having control over her own person; (6) a lesser share in inheritance; (7) her liability to be divorced and inability to divorce; (8) its being lawful for men to have four wives, but for a woman to have only one husband; (9) the fact that she must stay secluded in the house; (10) the fact that she must keep her head covered inside the house; (11) the fact that two women’s testimony has to be set against the testimony of one man; (12) the fact that she must not go out of the house unless accompanied by a near relative; (13) the fact that men take part in Friday and feast day prayers and funerals while women do not; (14) disqualification for rulership and judgeship; (15) the fact that merit has one thousand components, only one of which is attributable to women, while nine hundred and ninety-nine are attributable to men; (16) the fact that if women are profligate they will be given only half as much torment as the rest of the community at the Resurrection Day; (17) the fact that if their husbands die they must observe a waiting period of four months and ten days before remarrying; (18) the fact that if their husbands divorce them they must observe a waiting period of three months or three menstrual periods before remarrying (NasIhat Al-MulUk, London: University of Durham Publications, 1971; pp. 164-165)”.
Ram Swarup concludes, “the very merit of women turns into its opposite: predestined damnation”. Before to discuss if Islam is compatible with democracy or not, I would like to know something about a condition of woman in Turkey and other Islamic countries because woman’s condition is the most genuine indication of this compatibility or not. Only the concrete facts have a value, and these facts are absolutely negative for Islam.

The original principal, Ms Almontaser, whose radical views brought attention to the school, has now taken her case to the courts. Ms. Almontaser claims to have been forced to resign and is suing in an attempt to regain her postition as principal. According the very sympathetic NY Times article on April 28,2008, Ms Almontaser is also still being paid by the NYC Board of Education. I should imagine her chances of reemerging as principal of the Khalil school or elsewhere in the system are sadly quite good.

Gee, there’s a subtle message. I wondered if NYC taxpayers had paid for those t-shirts.
I recollect Ms. Almontaser “explaining” the t-shirt message, something about, you know, personal jihad, striving for excellence for women, something.
There is currently a school in Minnesota (I believe) that is also trying to finagle using public funds to surreptitiously promote a distinctly un-public agenda.
Of course, they are exploiting America’s contingent of politically correct, brain dead “multiculturalists”, so this agenda is meeting with some success.
It’s much cheaper, of course, if you can get the targets themselves to finance the…intifada, agenda. In order that, eventually, Muslim taxi drivers really won’t have to give a ride to anyone carrying a bottle of wine or allow a seeing eye dog into the cab.
And that beautiful call to prayer (it really is beautiful, but that’s beside the point and maybe not so beautiful 5X/day) can echo unfettered across American cities.

On a religious note, you bring up a very good point with the 18 “damnations” against women as being part of Islamic doctrine. Not that i am in any way in favour of this vile religion permeating in any way shape or form into american society, but the old testiment, while worded more gently had pretty much some of the same attitudes towards women. Both, if not all religions had their bases in the idea of “male priviledge” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Male_privilege
The US was founded on certain many Christian ideologies which had its own brand of “damnations” towards women. Look how long it took us, since our first independance day, for those ideologies to change, none of which happened easily. And if you look at any number of cult-like religions that have popped up in THIS century that have the same “damnations” against women, namely FLDS, it comes from the same male priviledge ideology. We still have a Catholic Pope who refuses to accept the idea of birth control today. Priviledge, any kind, dies a hard death. There’s just that comparison.
Christianity had its enlightenment. Many of the Islam-like principals have changed. Islam has yet to go through its own enlightenment period and i have no doubt it’ll be just as bloody.

Being an American means everything, being a capitolist is what unites us all as Americans. Putting that first is what makes us all free. Not much room for mohamed worship in that picture.
Some of the greatest Americans I know are from Persia. They understand that this is a land of opportunity, not entitlement. This is a very unpopular outlook amoungst those who hate liberty freedom and justice.
May 5, 2008 - 6:57 pm 40. Chris R.:The various chumps who fund and broadcast anti-Western media to adoring, brainwashed fans can keep wasting their money. Anyone who agrees with those anti-Western views will find their fix of adulterated news, not matter how many outlets are shut down.
Time Warner picked up TAC because they’re trying to make money by meeting a market demand. Time Warner makes a little cash and the Feds have a nice list of subscribers they can subpoena any time they like. I am not surprised that Time Warner would pick up a channel like TAC. I’ve seen far stranger channels than TAC on various networks. Heck, a channel called LOGO offers us a show called “Transamerican Love Story”. I would rather watch Al Jazeera in Arabic, even though I don’t know Arabic and I despise Al Jazeera.
They can have their First Amendment rights, I don’t mind one bit…as long as I have my Second Amendment rights.

Non assimilation should be sufficient cause for deportation. If one does not want to become an American Citizen one should have stayed in their country of birth.

“If you actually read the Bible, there are many very warlike and cruel instructions which modern Christian civilization is content to ignore, while still being Christian.”
REPLY:
Now, now, do not compare apples and oranges – do not compare a few passages with a philosophy whose cental tenant is intolerance & superiority over the “infidel”. Islam divides the world into the ABODE OF ISLAM and the ABODE OF WAR. Essentially, those in the ABODE OF WAR are less than human and must be conquered, to be brought into the fold of Islam. Once conquered it does not get much better. Those who are not Muslims are referred to as Dhimmi, they are second-class citizens in that they must pay a special tax (The Jizya, which is HIGHER than the Zakat, which Muslims pay) and do not have many rights afforded to Muslims. THE CLINCHER is that THE KORAN SPELLS OUT THE REASON FOR THIS DHIMMIFICATION, THIS PERSECUTION – It is so that the non-Muslim will “feel subdued” (Sura 9).
The difference between the various prophets is that Muhammed was a WARLORD. He was also an openly dishonest warlord, having gone back on his word with the Jews at Khybar (the blueprint for every Islamic Hudna since, see Hamas, Hezbollah, PLO and their ‘ceasefire’ record).
TYNAN SAID:
The problem with the Islamic world isn’t that it’s Islamic per se, it’s the dictators who are using Islam as a tool to externalize blame for their people’s crappy lives away from themselves.
MY REPLY:
I will agree that the dictators are the Arabs/Persians and Muslim world’s greatest enemies. I will also agree that they use scapegoating to externalize blame for the misery of their people. However, that blame is put upon Israel and the West.
That has little to do with the Pan-Islamic threat though. Alas, misery does not breed opression. That myth is absolutely devoid of factual observation. The most oppressed, massacred, persecuted people in history never blew themselves up! The Jews have not accepted terrorism and targetting of civilians as a mainstream norm. The blacks (of America and Africa) are not bombing coffee shops. The Kurds do not target civilians as their main modus operandi. Sub Suharan Africa is amongst the most miserable places on Earth yet even Al Qaeda has trouble recruiting there.
The miseducation and brainwashing from birth has something to do with it but the violent history and spirit of Islam is the greatest factor.
TYNAN SAID:
Islam, as written in the Koran, is only marginally more violent than Christianity.
MY REPLY:
THAT IS PATENTLY ABSURD! I’m sorry, I am simply floored by that comment. You need to open up your New Testament and your Koran and read them. There is no parallel or similarity in the level of violence and calls for death and destruction within the Koran.
There are similarities between the stories in the OLD TESTAMENT and Koran, but here to, the Koran distinguishes itself in its calls for shaming, persecuting and killing.
Here is a TINY, MINISCULE SAMPLING (taken from my last blog post)
SURA 9:5: …slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush.
SURA 5:33 The just retribution for those who fight GOD and His messenger, and commit horrendous crimes, is to be killed, or crucified, or to have their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, or to be banished from the land. This is to humiliate them in this life, then they suffer a far worse retribution in the Hereafter.
SURA 2:39: But they who disbelieve, and deny Our revelations, such are rightful Peoples of the Fire. They will abide therein. (my note: Peoples of the Fire – abide therein, aka put them in fire, burn them!)
SURA 2:191: And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. And fight not with them at the Inviolable Place of Worship until they first attack you there, but if they attack you (there) then slay them. Such is the reward of disbelievers.
SURA 2:194: And one who attacketh you, attack him in like manner as he attacked you. Observe your duty to Allah, and know that Allah is with those who ward off (evil).
SURA 2:254: …The disbelievers, they are the wrong-doers
SURA 4:89: They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them
SURA 4:91: If they keep not aloof from you nor offer you peace nor hold their hands, then take them and kill them wherever ye find them. Against such We have given you clear warrant.
