LAPD Chief Bratton’s Shameful Obama Endorsement

It's just his latest act of political calculation and expediency.

Like most police officers in America, I have thus far found myself immune to the many and varied charms of Barack Obama. Cops, regardless of their political affiliation, tend to be conservative, certainly few more so than I. Furthermore, we can spot a con job, and though Senator Obama has a smoother delivery than most who have risen from the fetid pond of Chicago politics, he nonetheless strikes me as a man who, should I find myself in his company, would have me checking for my wallet and watch after he had gone.

But a strange thing happens to a cop once he sets himself to the task or advancing through the ranks of his police department: He becomes less influenced by concerns of enforcing the law and more preoccupied with hewing to the regnant politics of the city in which he serves. As a friend very aptly describes the process, a cop forfeits one vertebra with each promotion he achieves, with the sad result often being that by the time he is appointed chief of police he is no longer fit to be classified among the phylum Chordata.

Witness the metamorphosis of Los Angeles Police Department chief William Bratton. Once decorated for valor while serving as a young police officer in Boston, he has, over the course of his ascent to law enforcement prominence, surrendered his vertebrae to various pols in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles, adapting like a remora feeding on the scraps left behind by whichever larger fish he found himself following. While in the employ of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, for example, Bratton was the tough-talking commissioner of the NYPD, bringing about a truly remarkable drop in crime in a city that had been descending into state of lawless chaos.

Though his success in reducing crime in Los Angeles has been only slightly less dramatic, gone is the shoot-from-the-lip Bill Bratton who struck fear into the hearts of Times Square hookers, squeegee-wielding bums, and all other strata of New York’s criminal rabble. Today, Bratton is a more soft-spoken man, conveniently reflecting the politics of a city where virtually the entire municipal government is made up of people of the Left.

But with Bratton’s latest act of political calculation and expediency, he has handed over whatever meager fragments of a spine that might have remained, to the point that it is now a wonder the man can stand upright at all. Last Friday, the Los Angeles Times reported that Bratton had recorded a telephone message to be used in “robocalls” in support of Barack Obama’s campaign for president. And what a shame this is.

Even more disturbing than self-emasculation for the sake of power and position, is for a law officer embrace a candidate with an ideology that trashes the rule of law. For Obama and the extreme Left, all law, beginning with the Constitution, is just toilet paper on which to wipe their ideological, utopian political goals upon. They are not sacrosanct or literal in their interpretation. Obama’s recently released interview at NPR Chicago from 2001 clearly shows this idea.

Americans like Bratton are selling their birthright for a pile of smelly, gaseous lentiles.

Never fear Obama is here.

The serve and protect montra has been changed. As with all dictator/socialists, the entities of communication and law enforcement line up to assure their place in power.

IE the FL tv station being punished for asking a tough question. And the O isn’t even president.

Never fear Obama is here.

Bratton will talk the talk, but when he gets in the privacy of the voting booth, he will pull the lever for McCain, unless Obama has promised to make him Secretary of the newly created cabinet position – The Department of Secret Police.

Mr Dunphy looks very shortminded. How is he qualifying the state terrorism of Israel against the Arab countries? And what if Sen. Obama once worked together with Ayers and if Wright is his Pastor? I wopuld feel very scared if I found mself in the presence of this police officer on a dark evening with no witnesses around. How does mr Dunphy qualifies the war crimes of the current president who is no more or less than an ordinary warcriminal and deserves to be brought to trials at the ICC?

to compare obama to a thief is really disheartening, why, I wonder? Would you say that if he was another color, guys we have got to move foward, we are a melting pot of race, color, and beliefs, to say one person is better than the other because of that is wrong and you will have to resolve that between you and your god, but this has got to stop, only together can we rebuild our great country

Oct 28, 2008 - 1:55 pm 9. McRib:

In my opinion, the CHIEF was a piece of crap before he ever got here. He takes no personal responsibility when things go wrong, just fires subordinates and blames them as in the latino riot at MacArthur Park. The rape kits pile up and go ignored and he blames the city council. He expects the taxpayers to pay for his trip (with servants) to a political convention? Why are we continually stuck with incompetents from out of town named Willie?

It’s the 60’s all over again. The bigots, racists, and other ilk.. showing who they really are. It’s nice to know who you are for the following reasons

- when your grandchildren are still going to IRAQ don’t cry.

-When your income declines because you are not really middle class
(McCain says that’s people making 5 million or more) don’t cry

-When your retirement fund disappears because of no regulation don’t cry

-When Afganistan requires “a surge” and your kids signup to go for their
country (nothing wrong with that) but now you have one there and one in
IRAQ. don’t cry

-When you realize that spreading wealth around means that your banks have to
pay taxes on the fees they charge you (they don’t now that’s why you have
so many) so you taxes aren’t so hi. Realize that’s a good idea and don’t
cry.

-When you realize this country had NEVER attacked a country first until W
and we lost all innocence because the collective we were right..Can’t cry
now because we were misled.

-Just pray that a country that was once the most respected can be again

Oct 28, 2008 - 2:09 pm 11. ChicagoMan:

Of course Most Police Officers are conservative. Most are ex-military and you know that the republicans love war (Corporate Industrial military complex my friends). Many are racists and you know that most republicans are racists regardless if they deny it. If your anyone but the top 5 percent of income earners nothing the republicans do actually improves your life. Cops on average make more money than teachers in this country and teacher usually has a degree. Do not get me wrong there are some really good people that are police officers and I am not speaking against them. But if for some reason the US would start to use money for education investing in its greatest resource, the citizens their would be much less crime and less need for a large police force. If people are getting along and not killing each other because they have been products of the our own USA domestic 3rd world (the inner city and rural trailer park Ghettos) there would be alot less people whom commit crimes just to survive and lees need to pump monies into law enforcement. We are almost a police state. Just look at what happened at the GOP convention this year gestapo tactics but our tax paid public servants. When we get to the point that we need less police and have more highly qualified well paid teachers we we will be a better nation with better citizens bottom line.

Never fear, the Obamabots are here! PJM, quit publishing articles with Obama’s name in the title. I’ve said this before. Please, listen! It just brings out the paid trolls.

Chicagoman – You’re full of it. Teachers in Chicago are paid an average of $83k/yr for 9-10 months of work. Some make over $100K! Their results are abysmal! Most cops are NOT ex-military. It used to be that way, but no more. I have no problem paying them more than teachers. Their lives are on the line, although in Chicago, so are teachers’ lives. No one from Chicago has any business whatsoever opining, period. Clean up your own rotten city, before you begin to lecture the rest of the country.

NavyGal – You don’t know your numbers or history.

Middle-class incomes have not declined. They have gone up, but just not as much as the upper classes. The numbers are skewed. Healthcare bene’s are not reported as income. Such bene’s have more effect on lower and middle classes than upper classes. Upper class incomes include the false profits from the financial sector.

Deregulation did not cause this crisis. Governemnt interference did. Specifically, Democrats. The CRA by Carter. FHA lending rules relaxed by Clinton. (yes, that’s deregulation, but of a fed agency, which is supposed to be regulated, as opposed to private industry.) Big Corporations give to Dems far more than to Pubs, by 4 or 5-to-1. Barney Frank and Dems running interference of trying to avert the crisis.

Spreading the wealth. What good is a tax cut, if it costs you your job working for a small business?

Attacking other countries. Native Americans. Mexican-American War. Spanish-American War. Korean War. Vietnam. Iraq was violating its surrender treaty. We had every right to attack them in continuation of the Gulf War.

From a fellow police officer, great article, especially the “losing his spine” comment. Is anyone troubled that this is the first presidential election since the civil war that major city police departments, such as my own Dallas police,be mobilized in case of rioting in the event the Great “o” is defeated? How 3rd world be have become. And I thought that would not happen until about 6 months into his presidency. And yes,all cops are conservative. Of course except those supporting this facade because of race. God help us.

Who the f**k does this cop think he is? All he’s doing is regurgitating what the McCain Failin mantra is, this cop cannot form an opinion on his own!

And let’s not speak of corruption, we in Los Angeles are quite familiar with Badge corruption, i.e. when last night I see a Sherrif turn on his lights, park incredibly illegally (and dangerously, turns on his warning lights, just to pull over and have a smoke, semi-blocking traffic. Does this dude want to address corruption and abuse of power in his own department, or bitch and moan about Obama and his weak-at-best connections (more like bump-into associations) with a few shady characters.

No wonder why LAPD is one of the least respected police forces in the Nation. I can tell you going from police commissioner to police commissioner here, I’ve seen a lot of corrupt commissioners, Bratton has been one of the best I’ve seen in 30 years. This a**hat is probably bitter because he can’t pull the same s**t he could when say, that corrupt douce Bernard Parks was in power.

You can vote for anyone and in Obama’s case be in the good company of ACORN, Gay Marriage, pro-Abortion, anti-military, appeasing, pacifist, pro-affirmative action, and many other so-called Americans.
By the way, here is something else to consider…a “conservative” African American like Ward Connerly or Justice Thomas (and many more) are considered “sellouts” by many blacks. So, how do we label all those smilin’ white faces at the Obama rallies? OOps! I forgot, that would be rascist…

Chicagoman…rationalization after rationalization for bad behavior..oh, the poor downtrodden..there are poorer folks in China that are not involved in the crime and general acting out seen in the ghetto to this day. Generations getting handouts, the self-destruction of the poor family and the lack of personal responsibility are at the cutting edge of most of these problems. Actually, Dr. Cosby is on track with my take on this, oh that’s right, he MUST then be a sellout. We are forced to have a police state in some areas because the residents haven’t a clue about proper behavior and prey on each other like rats in a confined area. As a policeman, who is surely competent strictly as a policemen, you are unfortunately racist, and like many of yours, persuaded all black people are robbers, that’s what demonstrate this statement.

Stay a cop. Catch the bad guy, but your opinion is your opinion, just that. a racist opinion…

Here is a cop that makes all cops look bad. Although he seems half educated,Jack Dunphy,is the worst kind of a man: a bigot, albeit, in uniform. The world is changing, with or without sick minds like you. Obama is what people of your ilk are scared off: educated, intelligent and confident. I will be more worried of “Jack Dunphy,” and those like him who stigmatize a whole race. If only folks can peruse your record wherever you work and expose you for the bastard that you truly are! The great thing is that its muscle-brained people like you that must ensure his safety, so shut up.

Intelligent: Are YOU a member of Mensa? If so, show me your Mensa membership ID number.

Confident: Did YOU ever jump out of a perfectly good airplane in flight? Would 64 other men trust YOU to lead them out of such an aircraft? Or lead them in life-or-death battle on a modern battlefied? Or are you a commissioner in your City or County?

Once again…White America at it’s worse. It really bothers you that here’s an educated, articulate Afican American man who can hold his own in any situation and has given you a different example from what your use to seeing on TV and “YOU” can’t handle it. It’s almost amusing really. I mean to see so many of you speaking this way…actually CRAZY!!! I mean you guys are the “chicken littles” of the world. Do you really believe that this man Obama doesn’t want the best for this nation? A lot of you probably voted for George Bush and look what happened? We’re a MESS right now as a country. I don’t hear any of you saying that maybe that wasn’t the best choice. We need some new and fresh ideas. This old way of thinking just isn’t working any more. My thinking is this..if Obama is elected and it doesn’t work in the first 4 yrs…. then hopefully we’ll be smarter next time and say “NO MORE!!! He should be given a chance. Obama is not to be FEARED…stop the DOMES DAY B.S. ALREADY

A vote for Nobama is a vote for Osama, so if you don’t mind what occurred on 9-11-01 then vote for the appeasement candidate and cast your vote for Obama. It’s funny to me that most left leaning wack-jobs out there, which is MOST of the left, loved McCain until he was the Republican nominee. Now he’s the antichrist. I’m happy that you lefties are able to attach your wagons to an empty suit who has the same obtuse positions, morals and ideals that you so cherish. I am truly happy that you found a Marxist to get behind. Congratulations. The only redeemable thing that would occur if Nobama got elected (which isn’t going to happen) is that Bratton would get his absentee hide out of Los Angeles for good. As for you that would vote for Obama, because he’’s black? You’re a T-shirt and quite pathetic. If your that obtuse, he can have your callow vote! Rinse, wash and repeat “Truthfirst” comment # 30!

How small minded some of the comments are. — ChangeGood4All

I can well understand this as just so much projection. After all, as we see in the rest of their post, there is no logic. Just mere bombast.

RE: Low Self-Esteem, Anyone?

Where is low self-esteem one always looks for ways to demean others. — ChangeGood4All

Again, real projection here. If anyone has low self-esteem, it’s someone who comes in here with out a fact to their argument and doesn’t even bother putting up a real name.

RE: Wowzers!

A vote for McCain is a vote that says anything goes, including the tried and failed method of power at any cost. — ChangeGood4All

The projection just keeps coming.

After all, I don’t recall McCain backing someone who admitted to bombing government property or being part of a subversive organization. Or how McCain sat through 20 years of sermons of racial hatred from his ‘spiritual mentor’.

RE: Accountability for All!

We need leaders who will be accountable for ALL Americans, not just the choosen few. — ChangeGood4All

Look at what’s being reported TODAY. How the Obamaniacs threw reporters from three papers that backed McCain off his campaign trail. We’re talking REAL ‘accountability’ THERE.

RE: The Need for Change

Read the facts. America is in need of Change – we do not need another trigger happy President. — ChangeGood4All

Pulling ‘triggers’ generates ‘change’. More on that later…..

RE: It’s a ‘Small World’ After Aaaaaaaalllll!!!!

The world is small (for those of you who travel) but we are all connected. — ChangeGood4All

It’s only ‘small’ to people who have ‘small minds’.

….are the ‘small minded’, low self-esteem hindered, factless, True Believers following The One.

RE: Of Triggers and Change

ChangeGood4All has an interesting moniker here. Truly an opportunity to discuss the benefits of change, vis-a-vis their whining about someone who is allegedly ‘trigger happy’.

As I commented earlier, pulling a trigger generates change. That is if we’re using a weapon that involves ‘missiles’ as opposed to edged or blunt instruments.

Once the trigger is pulled, a hammer comes down and/or a firing pin strikes a cartridge. The priming agent detonates causing the powder charge to explode. This action sends a metal object down the barrel and into a target…if the shooter practices good ‘gun control’.

There’s a lot of change right there.

But what about the ‘target’?

If it is a paper target, it gets changed by a hole in it. If it is a living being, it gets ‘changed’ too. A rather unpleasant change at that.

So what if the living being were to be, say, ChangeGood4All?

Some of us might consider that a ‘good’ change. Others, especially, ChangeGood4All, might consider it a very BAD change. It’s all a matter of perspective. And, amongst the christians, I mean the REAL ones, morals.

Personally, I don’t think shooting people is a good thing. And I’m not advocating that someone teach ChangeGood4All a harsh lesson regarding change.

I’m just pointing out that change is not necessarily a good thing.

Hope that helps….

Chuck(le)

Nov 1, 2008 - 1:53 pm 79. Arizona Senora:

Political punditry abounds here, as well as fallacious comparisons. You mention Rev Wright, however, not Rev Hagee McCain supporter who calls Catholics “…whores…” This was at a rally McCain attended. Khalidi’s group got 440K from the Republican Institute McCain chairs. Ayers was on a board with Obama;this board was founded by McCain supporter and fellow GOPer Walter Annenberg. Paltry pontification sans factual information here doesn’tserve your cause

Nov 2, 2008 - 8:27 am 80. Ed O'Shea:

Arizona Senora…. All of the associations, and then some, you sighted about Obama are indeed substantive and relevant to be vetted and answered by a man who wishes to be President of the United States. I find it extremely revealing in your lack of intellectual honesty that you sight the Ayers and the Annenburg debacle as an example of one of McCains “questionable” involvements. When in fact, as soon as McCain heard of Rev Hagees’ comments he immediately addressed them and refused Haggees endorsement. Far more than Mr.Obama did when the hateful and Anti-American tapes of his “Mentor” surfaced.
The 440k that was given to Khalidis group was for to study the possibility of democracy in Palestine. A knobble cause, unless you’re saying that the people that you prefer to align yourself with lie in order to destroy this Great country? Interesting… But I am happy for you, happy that you’ve found that empty slate in Obama to sit behind. Now you can put your callow ideals and morals behind El Che-Obama. As for McCain, he wasn’t having dinner with Khalidi, Ayers, Wright, Flagher, Raines, Jackson, Farakahn and the list goes on… And anyone with more than 2 functioning brain cells can see that Rev. Hagee and his “possible” endorsement of McCain is hardy any match for that embarrassment to the human race Rev. Wright. Ease up on drinking the kool-aid over at the dailyKOS, its regurgitation embarrassing by you is pathetic. Your plausible ignorance in these matters is hardly becoming of an educated Senora… Pasa Buen Dia. (hope I spelled those correctly)

Nov 2, 2008 - 12:12 pm 81. Edward A.:

Does anyone ask…why we see, few if any, big name Democrats publicly announcing their support for McCain? Yet, daily we hear from another leading Republican declaring their vote for Obama. What do these leading Republicans know about McCain/Palin that causes them to make this monumental decision? For those who have spent a lifetime backing the GOP, to express their preference for Obama, tells all Americans the Grand Old Party needs new blood.

..Just stopped by and noticed that I’ve become a bed-wetter…

My apologies for an honest question.
I wasn’t aware at the time that Jack Dunphy was a prolific contributor to this site.

Another honest question, though; and I certainly don’t mean to imply that anyone here is dishonerable, brain-dead at birth, or someone who pisses their bed-

You consider Mr. Dunphy to be well-vetted by the content of his writings, his factual accuracies, insights, and your general agreement on the subjects at hand. More or less, at least- right?
Yet if someone were to say that they trusted Barack Obama on the basis of his writings, his speeches, his words at debates, and the general reporting that has been done on him over the last few years, you would call that person a fool, correct? You would say that they should look much deeper into his personal background. That he should be far more well-vetted before being granted any kind of trust.
I wouldn’t necessarily disagree.
But why the double-standard on who you trust?

My belief is that many people hate and fear Obama FIRST, and THEN they seek out reasons. And they will search for reasons as long as they fear him.

That’s all for me.
I’m off to piss on my bed.
