Senator Reid should also walk to buy the groceries that doubled in price and take a pay cut like the rest of us. Then again, maybe he should just be sent on a permanent vacation along with the rest of Congress. Are there any sensible voters left in Nevada or have that refugees from California taken over?

I expect that before this is all over we'll see Reid and Pelosi don hard hats and poise for pictures on oil derricks, to prove that they aren't opposed to oil drilling after all. Then after the election they'll go back to quietly blocking US oil exploration.

IE., they'll do whatever they have to, to slide through the next election. Then it will be back to business as usual.

Here's a question that I haven't seen answered... With $4 a gal gas today and most likely $10 a gal in a year or two the American people are getting pissed off. It's only a matter of time till a replacement fuel is developed. Look at all our universities that are big into the R&D of fuels. Add to them all the private firms that have stepped up their efforts. It's going to pay off big. The old 'Follow the Money' thing... The next BP... But if we and other countries no longer need Arab oil what's going to happen to the Middle East? Sort of like what happened to the guys involved with whale oil. Big business one day and then bust. Then you have those that say big oil will never allow any new fuels to come out. It would mean the end of them and their huge profits. So, is this something we can get out of?

All the good hydroelectric sites in the US are already developed. Solar and wind both have severe scaling issues and can't provide consistent power on demand, requiring expensive and inefficient load leveling power storage. And I've read that there are already lawsuits to block construction of the transmission lines from a solar project in the Mojave Desert. And there are lawsuits in the name of squirrels and the federal government has placed a moratorium on new solar projects on public land until it studies their environmental impact.

By the way, the myth that rolling down the car windows and turning off the AC improves mileage ... busted!

It appears that the turbulence created causes drag, whatever the mechanism, mileage with the windows down is significantly less than with them up, while the car AC has a very minor effect.

Two more things: Breeder reactors and pebble-bed reactors. (Not only could we make nuclear even more absurdly safe than it is, we could massively reduce nuclear waste.)

Oil Shale, Coal-Gas Liquification, one of the largest oil fields in the world under the Carribean, nuclear, hydroelectric and yes, even solar and wind; the US could easily be energy independent by 2020.

To make it more fun, we add in the Canadian oil reserves and tar sands, and Mexico's oil and we create an energy independent North America. (As an added note, Venezuela's Oil and tar sands are massive. Chavez will croak sooner or later, at which point we become very friendly again with Venezuela.)

Reid's position of fossile fuel would instantly end Las Vegas as a city, much less as a playground for gambling, entertainment and retirement. Too bad he's not up for re-election tomorrow as I doubt he'd garner 10% of the vote. Who would miss him.

What a pathetic excuse for a Senator. Sure reflects well on the Democrat party.
