The MLK emoting was really uncomfortable and inappropriate. Who is this poseur to try to borrow from that great man’s struggles, experience and accomplishments to use it for a few minutes of slickness to seek political power?

Other than that, I found the speech quite lacking in specifics. He alluded to them, but things like “keeping AK-47s from criminals” and such were empty calories for anyone with any intellectual capacity. Overall, he helped me realize that Obama is a conduit for those that aren’t smart enough to know better that he’s not qualified. Big hat, no horse.

Detached (and still sober) musings on Obama’s speech:

1. Obama clearly presents a problem. DC sucks. Special interest, bloated government, etc.
2. Obama clearly provides viable evidence that Bush and McCain are neither part of the solution. You’d have to agree from their performance.
3. Obama suggests some things that could be done (though mostly out of the irrelevant or land of make believe, like directing Detroit to make miracle cars, keeping guns from convicted felons, making dictators in Iran and elsewhere comply with ‘diplomacy’ and conjuring up new nuclear-free miracle fuels by decree).

But nowhere does he link himself to being the guy that can address these problems and accomplish these miracles. Other than channeling MLK, and pointing out he has none of the “bad experience” (and none of the good), I can’t find a single point in the speech where he links to having the capacity to be president.

I’ve reviewed many a business plan for investors that pointed out great problems and the inherent inability of the status quo (and its participants) to address them. But if I don’t have a clear indication the management team does have the capacity, expertise, motivation and the plan to specifically address those problems, the don’t get a dime from my investors.

Which is why this is Obama’s campaign to lose. And why considering the pre-convention polls, he should be somewhat concerned. He should be far ahead in the polls, even before the convention. There is the unpopularity of Iraq, the recession, the mortgage crisis, the fact that after 8 years people are just tired of Bush and his unseriousness and the fact that the media and celebrities seem to be in the tank for Obama.

Yet, Obama was not ahead appreciably (though he seems to have gotten a bounce). Add in Dinkins and shy Tory factor, and he is not polling that well (though I admit that with many of Obama’s supporters probably going entirely wireless, he has some poll factors in his court also).

All that said, the guy gives an incredible speaeh and he will get a bounce and lots of TV images from tonight. But I have a very uneasy feeling when I watch him speaking to his supporters.

He is still the clear favorite

One thing I did love, Barack baby, about the speech was how you tried to keep me awake by talking real loud. If you were speaking in German, and had a little cute mustache, I’d swear we were back in Berlin. I mean, the last guy to have the bombasity to speak in front of a hundred thousand people who had or has a deep seated hatred for America also had a weird name.

Woodstock for the mentally disadvantaged. Bet you have a program for each one of them.

Barack, I don’t know how to say this without hurting your sensitive feelings, and bringing the wrath of beautiful Michelle down on me, but (in a whisper) your speech wasn’t real good.

Just between Barack and Rachel, it had more nonsense than McCain has medals. And that middle class claim. Barack, how many private schools did you go to?

How many shady loans financed your middle class million dollar house?

Well, if they elect you to Presdesy (that, guys, is exactly the way Barack said it, I’ll say to myself, Rachel, he can’t be as bad as you say he is.

That was a fantastic speech. He defined the differences between himself and McCain while weaving the theme of our country as one throughout. He appealed to our better natures, an appeal that has been so absent from Republican messaging in recent times. He outlined his approaches on the great challenges facing this country: energy, terrorism and proliferation.

It seems strange given America’s recent political history, but I simply can’t imagine such a lineup of strong speeches in the Republican convention. Perhaps GWBush or Cheney will surprise but from Ted Kennedy to Hillary, Michelle Obama to Bill and surprisingly John Kerry the bench of great speeches was deep at the DNC. Obama had a high bar to stand out from what had gone before, and stand out he did.

Obama is a megalomaniacal, self absorbed fool and liar. A legend in his own mind. This guy just wants the cameras, the crowds and the adulation.The responsibilities are a minor detail and nuisance to Obama; let alone the awsome responsibilities that come with the most powerful elected position in the free world.

This is not make believe Mr. Obama. This is not a screen test for the latest Spike Lee film Mr. Obama.The director isn’t going to yell cut when Mr. Putin tells you he’s taking Ukraine, or the Iranian Hitler has just launched a nuke in the direction of Isreal. This is the real world.

Obama is a Denzel Washington wanna be. He should make a career change and go to hollywood. He would fit right in. Narcisistic, thin skinned, leftist. He would be welcomed with open arms in LaLa land. At least there he couldn’t put hundreds of millions of citizens at risk with ignorant,foolish and dangerous policies.

The most troubling aspect of Obama’s candidacy is that his handsome, half white looks, with his pearly white perfect chiclet toothed smile, along with his baritone, teleprompter oratory has tens of millions of Americans fooled into thinking he is an just a nice,ordinary, regular guy next store. This could not be further from the truth.

People that are supporting Obama’s candidacy, or that might be considering such a thing, that still posess the ability to think critically better do some investigating into just exactly who this guy really is; and exectly where he wants to take this country.

Virtually every topic covered in his speech was a complete flipflop from what he has espoused and advocated for the past two years.The speech was nothing more than a naked attempt to pander to the center, rife with the obligatory promises, platitudes and rhetoric.

Hope and Change? Be careful what you wish for.

This blog is the worst I’ve ever read and is symbolic of a modern day lynching. How is that during the 8 years Bill Clinton was President the entire country experienced prosperity, a budget surplus, and for the most part, world peace and during “Cowboy Bob’s” reign we are drowning in a sess pool of uneccessary debt, entered a war that should never have happened only to again strongarm another country and steal their oil, destroy our middle class, and I won’t even touch Halliburton. Obama is fresh, new, young, qualified, brilliant, and he’s a black man that the white American media will do any and everything in it’s constant abuse of power to discredit and try to destroy. Everyone seems to be forgetting that McCain is 72 years old and now his new VP candidate is testimony that he is on the brink of senality. Last but not least, how is it that for months now the Republicans have been forcefully beating into our heads that President Obama (yes I said President)is “too inexperienced” for the the job but his VP pick, who has the experience of nothing more than an intern graduating from college, is okay and just the right person for the job? Is it because she is a white woman and the white media says it’s okay? The Republicans want us to be confident that if anything happens to this 72 year old war vet that we should feel safe and confident that this less than 2 year term Govenor and mother of 5 is ready to, “On Day One” , run the most powerful country in the world? This country is so corrupt and infected with liars and racists and will always suffer until liberty and justice for all is practiced by this white America.

The entire gulf coast is under the threat of a hurricane that will basically steal the limelight of the GOP convention and we will be better off not having to hear a damn thing they have to say. Obama interpreted McCain’s 26 years of experience as a reason to expect more of the same – maintining the status quo, which has, supposedly existed for 30 years. what does he say about Biden’s 31 years of experience, which makes him part of that status-quo?

Obama hopes to fix our economic situation by addressing tax corruption. Why didn’t he immediately turn to Ted Kennedy and ask him why he has only been paying 9% of his property taxes?

Obama envoked the dedication of his family, and their unity, but why didn’t he mention his half-brother living in Africa whom he has visited only twice, and lives on 2 dollars a day?
