Live from DNC: It’s Zombietime! (Day 1)
See what the "major" protest for "prisoners' rights" turned into on Monday afternoon. Latest: Prisoners' Rights "Recreate 68" Protest ...

Yes, Virginia, there really are communists in this day and age. And most of them seem to have convened in Denver, as this banner from the “End the Occupations” march attests.

Later in the day, the Reclaim the Streets protest arrived at the state capital, where a series of heated but essentially fruitless confrontations between the protesters and the police ensued.

The police did their best to try and keep a lid on the proceedings.

When they needed to rapidly reposition themselves at the protest, they hopped on these specially modified “troop transport” SUVs.

Wait — is this a protest, or a fashion show?

The communists shown in the earlier picture protested against capitalism as a concept. And here we the see the anarchists doing the same. This is in fact their only point of agreement: otherwise, the communists want to institute total state control of society, whereas as the anarchists want, well, anarchy. But hatred of the United States makes strange bedfellows, and for now the natural enemies — communists and anarchists — seem to have set aside their differences and agreed to bring down capitalism together.

Shades of what is likely to happen throughout the week: counter-protesters showed up to voice their opinions as well.

I just love the sign on the right: “Hey Liberals: Can’t get no satisfaction? Try liberating an entire nation from tyranny.” Ouch — that’s gotta sting.

I must say, the messages put forth at this counter-protest were extremely astute, and highlighted the greatest weaknesses in the left-wing protest philosophy.
That’s it for our first report! Thanks to El Marco for capturing some excellent images while we were still en route to Colorado.
The convention itself kicks off today, and the protests are sure to escalate. Stay tuned!

Enchanting.

Aug 25, 2008 - 11:01 am 42. Kevin:Recreate 68? Boy, talk about weeping for the future. Has anyone bothered cluing in these automatons that the Dems lost, and lost big in ‘68? To Nixon of all people. Yeah, go ahead, recreate ‘68. But don’t be surprised if those who actually operated in ‘68, and now firmly control the democrat party, prevent the foolishness going on in the streets. It was foolish/stupid back in ‘68, it’s stupid/foolish now. Wake up. What we are seeing here is a continuation of the juvenile thought process of the protesters from the 60’s. See as children we are taught ideas in very simplistic terms. As only a child can understand. Black/white, good/evil. Simple. Then as we grow we are eventually taught that things are always so pronounced. That there is a little bit of gray in the world. Once we reach adulthood, it is assumed that we are able to realize just how much more gray the world is, but that there is such a thing as good/evil, black/white, etc. That our actions must marry our words. These protesters only show they have missed out on several key issues. One is that words and actions must go hand in hand. That one at times must make choices that are unsavory, that doing nothing can be far worse than doing something, and vice versa, and only experience can help determine the difference. Right now they only espouse regurgitated slogans. Not once have they considered what would happen to them in a nation that truly practices what they preach. Here endeth their lesson.

Aug 25, 2008 - 11:34 am 45. Daniel in Brookline:Thanks, Zombie! (And thanks to you too, El Marco.)
In a just world, repeated photo-essays like this — which the mainstream media refuses to publish — would be worthy of a Pulitzer nomination, at least. Failing that, please accept our gratitude for going where the moonbats are and showing us what they do.
Thanks also for showing the counter-demonstrators! (Don’t they just LOOK as though they smell better? And don’t you love the fact that they provide CITATIONS for their quotes & photos?)
I have become more and more convinced, over the years, that adult demonstrators are the ones who make their points quietly, eloquently, and with dignity. The ones screaming slogans in the middle of the street, daring police to touch them, are on the same moral level as the five-year-old in the supermarket, threatening a tantrum if he doesn’t get a candy bar. They are children… and they have no cause for complaint if they are treated as such.
In re bandannas etc. — perhaps these people don’t want to be recognized, although I think that’s unlikely. (Would you recognize your child, even with a bandanna? I’m sure you would.) Another theory is that they’re simply protecting themselves from the smell.
But my pragmatic side says: if you make it impossible for police to subdue you with tear gas, people, then you make it necessary for them to use billy clubs and rubber bullets. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
respectfully,

Aug 25, 2008 - 12:21 pm 48. Kevin:One commenter opined that they were wearing the masks as a possible counter to tear gas. Now I don’t know if this method is as effective with tear gas as with mustard gas, but they would need to urinate on the bandanna’s to counter the gas. You would also need a better seal around your mouth and nose than a “bandito” look. Should have stayed awake in history class. Might have actually learned something.

However, I think the counter-protesters who carry “love America” posters and such will be portrayed as the deviants by the likes of Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann of the ObamaNetwork. They will celebrate the Democrat base’s “diversity” on one hand, and decry the religious and gun-loving “clingers” as rubes and hicks who support Bush and McCain in their small-mindedness. How sweet.

Lemire:George Will recently wrote something that may not be entirely true, but presently appears at least 98% true: “For conservatives, seeing is believing; for liberals, believing is seeing.” People on the left, whether liberal or pure leftist, ought to test their beliefs and claims against reality. That likely won’t change their minds, but perhaps a few will realize just how foolish rants against someone like Karl Rove make the lefties appear.

Exactly how I see those stupid, indoctrinated (NOT educated) kids with too much money and too much time on their hands.
I guess wanting to re-create Chicago ‘68 is the peak of their ambitions. Good thing they are covering their faces. No one would want to hire them for jobs, except the NEA and other Leftist unions.
Aug 25, 2008 - 3:41 pm 90. fred:I’m very proud of the counter protesters. There is hope for the country, when almost every protest organized by the Communists, their useful idiots, and the anarchists are matched by veterans groups and patriotic Americans. Thirty years ago when I was a young Leftist college student, when we were protesting the U.S. involvement in Central America there were no counter protesters reminding everyone that the Soviets were pulling the strings down there.
Even when I was a revisionist Marxist I would never be caught carrying any of those idiotic signs and posters. Anyway, I actually studied Marxism and read the works of the theoreticians. And I listened to the critiques of socialism written or voiced by people like Michael Novak and Willian Buckley, Jr.
Aug 25, 2008 - 3:51 pm 91. 49erDweet:These pix bring two thoughts to mind: One, most parents of the “protesters” are probably NOT capitalists in the true meaning of the term. I think “academics” might come closer to the point. And two, their “withered” minds and lack of critical thinking skilss are more likely due to over-exposure to too much cannabis during adolescence, rather than educational slippage, if the truth could be known.
Aug 25, 2008 - 4:03 pm 92. Corky Boyd:Zombie
Way to go!!!
I’m surprised the wackos don’t recognize you by now. The only thing I can figure is you look like them. But no one on our side can smell like them, that’s the giveaway.
Keep the pictures coming.

Aug 25, 2008 - 5:27 pm 99. Hal:I’m guessing the bandanas are not about tear gas, but about keeping their faces out of pictures. Unless they get arrested, they remain anonymous.
Aug 25, 2008 - 5:36 pm 100. Donna:20 years ago, P.J. O’Rourke jeered at wannabe ’60’s leftists by noting what his college friends (the original ’60’s leftists) would have thought if someone had turned up at their rallies dressed in a zoot suit and a fedora.
Well, now that 1968 is 40 years in the past, it’s even more bizarre, isn’t it? It’s like someone showing up at the ‘68 Dem Convention dressed like a flapper or Rudy Valentino.
And picture someone walking around in 1928 wearing the Victorian fashions of 1888. The flappers and slick-haired Rudy Valentino types would have considered them insane.
But in 2008, leftists wear tie-dyed T-shirts and hippie get-ups popular when I was a tot and consider that “progessive.”
Well, their dress is about as progressive as their ideology, I guess.

Coach Barstuck: I hooted with approval when I read “these punks need to run laps until they puke twice.” It reminded me of my own experiences–during SOCCER practice! Actually, it was the repeated 100yd sprints that would do me in. Definitely a character builder.
Baseball is a great game, but baseball players are going to puke from running a lot sooner than soccer players are.
The important thing is that these pathetic protesters by no means represent the wide swath of American youth.

Aug 26, 2008 - 5:22 am 120. BC:The real protests will be in Minneapolis come September. There really wasn’t a whole lot to protest at the DNC convention since Republicans have been the real bad guys for the past several years, although Pelosi and her crew are likely to very much regret taking Bush’s impeachment off the table.

Protesting at the GOP convention wouldn’t quite recreate 68′. The protestors want to influence the Dems with whom they feel kinship of spirit. They’re not going to influence any Reps. I don’t expect any greater number of protesters at the GOP convention.
