Obama and ACORN: A Love Story
Why did the president feign ignorance of ACORN when his relationship with the group goes back almost 20 years?
Given President Obama’s long and close ties to ACORN, it is understandable that he should have distanced himself as long as possible from the latest and most heinous ACORN scandal: the capture on video of employees in at least five different ACORN offices avidly coaching activists, posing as a pimp and prostitute, in how to set up child-prostitution brothels and commit housing fraud. In the latest of these undercover videos, one staffer went so far as to offer to assist in smuggling a dozen underage girls into the U.S. as sex slaves.
But this past weekend, when asked during an ABC interview about the videos, President Obama had no choice but to respond. What the videos reveal, he said, “was certainly inappropriate and deserves to be investigated.”
Backpedaling, he did not specify who should do the investigating and played down his knowledge of the organization and its misdeeds. “I didn’t even know,” he added, “that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money.” He went on to stonewall about whether he would support cutting off federal funds to the vast umbrella group (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, whose stated mission is to counsel low-income communities and which has received far upward of $53 million in taxpayer money).
Long before the latest scurrilous revelations, the organization had nationally gained a reputation for rampant voter-registration fraud; aggressive, even physical, shaking down of businesses; and, most recently, blatant tax-cheating.
Obama’s playing dumb about ACORN is disingenuous in the extreme. His longstanding activist, political, and financial connections to the group, as Stanley Kurtz showed prior to the presidential election, are wide and deep. Indeed, they constitute his most significant and enduring tie to the anti-capitalist and revolutionary “New Left” movement of the 1960s.
Sol Stern writes that ACORN sprang from “one of this movement’s silliest and most destructive groups, the National Welfare Rights Organization.” The NWRO’s strategy was to eliminate welfare requirements and overwhelm welfare offices with clients, simultaneously staging disruptions and sit-ins, in order to bring about “a radical reconstruction of America’s unjust capitalist economy.”
Obama could have only been buying into this vision by intimately allying himself with ACORN and its ilk over the years.
In his pre-law school years as a community organizer in Chicago, Obama was brought into ACORN’s orbit by the group’s city leader Madeleine Talbot, who recruited him into training her own staff. Though some years after Obama’s early organizing work, it was Talbot who masterminded a display of what radicals term “direct action”: she and her fellow activists stormed a session of the Chicago City Council, preventing participants from entering the session. Afterward, taken off in handcuffs and charged with disorderly conduct and mob action, she stoutly defended the organization’s strong-arm tactics.

I think that’s obvious – because he wants the discussion to be about something else. He COULD sit down with o’reilly and have a big expose about all his involvement, answer any questions you like – and it’d make not one scrap of difference to the people who think this is an issue. By talking about it at all, he just wastes air time on something that’s (to him) irrelevant.
Or it’s a vast, evil plot to destroy america. What do you guys think?

Because he can. He got away with his feigning ignorance of the reverend who spilled anti-Am racist sermons for as long as Obama was in his church (for over 20 years). He got away with obtaining his sweet-heart-deal home from his neighbor who’s spending his days in jail… He got away with a lot of things that would have sunk mere mortals. He got away with things that the MSM would suffix with a “gate”.

The actions of this group are so vast and broad as to be considered treasonous. For our elected officials to sit idly by, or make any efforts to combat this atrocity makes them an accessory in my opinion.

Those who voted for him will soon ask themselves why they didn’t know he once worked for this organization. They’ll ask themselves how they could have voted for a president who has actively supported a group that has as it’s central goal the destruction of America. And now that ACORN has chosen to pursue legal action against the two filmmakers who exposed this malfeasance to the country, the discovery phase will prove what we’ve suspected all along. I expect this to be very damaging to all those involved, all the way to the top.

But ACORN was not exactly the only plaintiff in that suit: so was the DOJ and the League of Women Voters. Also a lot of right wing numbnuts quote a 2004 article in “Social Policy” by Toni Foulkes, a Chicago ACORN leader, where he states that under Obama’s leadership, Project VOTE in 1992 delivered 50,000 newly registered Illinois voters that helped Carol Moseley Braun win a Senate seat. And of those 50,000 votes, Foulkes wrote, “ACORN delivered about 5,000 of them.”
The thing is that in 1992 when Obama did some work for Project Vote, it was a separate organization from ACORN, although they often worked together on getting out the vote in poorer communities. In 1994, Project Vote went through a reorganization and began to partner more with ACORN on voter registration, but it was still a separate organization.
There — in two short paragraphs, I just provided you guys with more factual information about Obama’s connection to ACORN than the entire right wing mediasphere has managed to do do date despite gigs and gigs of blather about it. Yeah, really dark, suspicious stuff. Tools and fools.

Last year I knew the country was in trouble when THREE SENATORS were the last candidates standing late in primary season. That meant we could expect four more years of an out-of-control Federal bureaucracy. Thus, Barak Hussein Obama can command the investigations to cease, but he might as well be King Kanute commanding the tides to recede. He lacks the administrative skills that Stalin had to impose his will on the bureaucracy. If he shuts down investigations, there will be leaks. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the bureaucracy has been ahead of everyone else in cutting off ACORN at Commerce and Treasury.
If I were a Democrat, I’d be ashamed to have anything to do with this racketeer influenced corrupt organization.
