Obama and His Good Ol’ Boys

Golf without women present? Alert the media!

“Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules.”

The news and blogs are buzzing about Obama’s all-male golf games, and National Organization of Women president Terry O’Neill is upset that Obama surrounds himself with men both in and out of the White House:

Is this much ado about nothing? O’Neill says no.

“Relationships get built in those more informal settings,” O’Neill told ABC News, “and the relationships have a huge impact on the influence an individual has. We know what happens when we segregated whether it by race or whether it by gender — you end up with first-class citizens and you end up with second-class citizens.”

O’Neill told ABC News’ Mike Callahan, “we need to see the White House leading the way for desegregating the work places all around the country and it is troubling.”

Is O’Neill correct? Should Obama include more women?

If you know anything about me or my stance on men’s rights, you will know that typically I would not consider this a big deal in and of itself. Sure, there are men who are in power in small concentrated areas, but as Scott Adams — the writer of the Dilbert books and cartoons — says: “Those are other men.” Most men are just average Joes trying to get through the day.

Yet I can’t help but feel that in the case of Obama and his frat boy White House, something is amiss.

This clown can play golf with, have drinks with, and rub elbows with Shrieking Tasmanian Devils as far as I am concerned. It ain’t gonna help his presidency one wit.

He is an incompetent piece of crap who wanders cluelessly around the links, heads out on fund-raising junkets, and wastes time giving apologetic speeches to Euro-commies while ignoring the critical issues that demand his attention. Small things like, you know, a war that is heading South quickly and taking our young men and women with it, or the eceonomy of this country doing its final laps around the bowl.

In 10 short months, the POSOTUS has passed through Carter territory and is staking busy building his own wing in the POTUS’ Hall of Shame.

The problem here is liberal hypocrisy. Liberals tell everyone else, especially conservatives, that they must stand up to certain morals and rules that are almost impossible to follow.

Oct 28, 2009 - 4:48 am 7. Rose from Ohio:

When I originally read of NOW’s response, I was unconcerned. I don’t care about the number of rounds he plays or that he plays with men – normally.

As I read further, I saw that a male junior staffer in a department had been asked to participate in at least one of the outings. His female department head had to fight for a tenth of the access to the president that was freely handed to him and, other junior female aides, would never get the access at all. THAT I found troublesome.

President Obama is free to play golf with near contemporaries to his hearts content as far as I am concerned. (Time spent on the golf course is time not spent making more poor decisions related to governance in my opinion.) However, if he chooses to play mentor to lower level employees (excepting Reggie), then he should make it a mixed gender experience.

As to him not inviting a single female to his basketball match despite some female college level talent in his Cabinet and in Congress – that’s just chicken.

Isn’t the larger question why Barack Obama keeps sending a man to do Hillary Clinton’s job?

When we were negotiating with Kim Jung Il for the release of two journalists, Barack Obama didn’t send his Secretary of State. He sent her husband.

When we were negotiating with Afghan President Hamid Karzai to get him to agree to a runoff election, Barack Obama didn’t send his female Secretary of State. He sent John Kerry instead.

It’s pretty clear that when Barack Obama needs someone to negotiate with heads of state he’s not sending a woman to do a man’s job.

Oct 28, 2009 - 4:55 am 9. Donna V.:

Oh, here’s another topic for Betsy Bedwetters of both sexes to obsess about. I could care less who bambi golfs with. I don’t think the President of the United States is required to have golf partners who “look like America” – a woman, a Hispanic, a Jew, a gay, etc. when he decides he wants to play a few holes.

In fact, I wish Obama would spend his entire day working on his golf game. Better that than him sitting in the Oval Office coming up with more ways to spend us into bankruptcy.

I’m with the Pres on this one. Girls have cooties. It’s good that he is a founding member of the He-Man Woman Haters Club.

Oct 28, 2009 - 5:03 am 11. macko:

I agree with Donna, let him play whatever sports with whomever, just keep him out of the oval office as much as possible. When he’s on the golfcourse he only has that little stubby pencil to sign anything with.

Oct 28, 2009 - 5:27 am 12. Donna V.:

Isn’t the larger question why Barack Obama keeps sending a man to do Hillary Clinton’s job?

That’s a very good point. Hillary really goofed by taking that job. Instead of being a high profile Senator, she’s now providing window dressing for the man who utterly trashed her during the primaries.

Yeah, that’s a bit more pertinent than the gender of Obamba’s golf partners.

Oct 28, 2009 - 5:28 am 13. Rose from Ohio:

Yes, someguy, I laughed when Obama’s spokesman responded that he had appointed more women to Cabinet and near Cabinet level positions than anyone before.

Doesn’t matter what the appointment was if you keep sending someone else to do the job. If the woman ISN’T doing the job, fire her. If she is, get out of her way and let her do the job you appointed her to do.

I’m with #1 on this one – he’s got a lot of problems so I’ll let this one go. On a side note I played in a sorta coed corporate basketball league one time and sent a girl to the hospital coming down with a rebound. I’m very mixed on coed sports for anyone over 12.

Oct 28, 2009 - 5:40 am 15. Spinoneone:

Gee. Imagine what would happen if diversity were well and truly enforced. The NBA would have two black, two Hispanic, one Asian and about five white players per team. The NFL would be about 6/6/3/30. There might be some minority benefit to other sports, but the economic results wouldn’t be pretty for the minority races. If the “liberals” really wanted to see “equal opportunity” and “diversity” enforced throughout the land in all endeavors, that is precisely what would happen. Oh, I forgot, Congress would just naturally make some exceptions. Ne c’est pas?

Oct 28, 2009 - 5:47 am 16. Real View:

Once again the media distracts away from the real issue which is that while Afganistan burns and the country implodes economically, President Whatever whiles away his time playing golf, basketball, and feeds his dog a veal birthday cake. Who really cares if he doesn’t like to play basketball with girls.

Oct 28, 2009 - 6:12 am 17. curmudgeoninchief:

While I ordinarily agree with Dr. Smith, who does have a more reasonable attitude towards men, I must disagree here. There are already two classes in this country. Women, first-class citizens, who have a complete set of civil rights, and men, second-class, who don’t even have the right to reproduce.
Any woman can force her way into any all-male organization or group she can identify by accusing men of “lack of diversity” or “unequal access”. These groups are thus monitored for “gender bias” and “inappropriate attitudes”. No man can force his way into the ladies locker room at Wimbeldon or the LPGA Championship, or the Belizean Grove.
There is no more restful time than 7AM on the first tee when there are no female voices on the course (girls dont like to play early golf, in general) and you can share your inappropriate, undiverse thoughts with your bros.

Oct 28, 2009 - 6:32 am 19. Thomas_L......:

If they were serious about diversity, they would not have put up another male for the presidency. They would have celebrated the historic running of a woman for president, instead of destroying the character of the woman who was running. After all, there have been 43 males who have served as president of the USA and no females. Ms. Clinton discovered, however, that even diversity and victimization have a heirarchy.

Regardless of how many women he actually puts in his administration, it was pointed out during the campaign that he pays them a good deal less than their male counterparts. When you combine that with lack of access by female staffers or pushing aside women to give their assignments to men, it becomes pretty plain to see that he’s a dang misogynist.

“Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules.” Don’t you agree?

Oct 28, 2009 - 7:18 am 26. Mike Jefferson:

The media conveniently neglects all things Obama that cast the messiah in anything less than resplendant light. Imagine the uproar had Bush been golfing twenty-something times in less than 9 months in office. How would the media have have handled the uptick in violence in Afghanistan (and now Iraq) and failure to address the troop requests had Bush been in office? Well we know the answer to that one – the media pounded Bush daily on that accord. Now, we have the latest revelation from the Washington Times that Obama has been essentially selling access to the White House for a certain price. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/oct/28/democratic-donors-rewarded-with-wh-perks/ Again, the media has been silent.

The bottom line is this. Like many “liberals”, Obama is a racist, mysogynist, and elitist. Rules don’t apply to people of his ilk – only the “cake” eating, tax-paying, subserviant worker types are held to task. History has demonstrated repeatedly where the natural progression of tyrannical leadership leads. It’s time for King “George” BHO to go, bro!

Many times the head guy will invite junior personnel to play — repeatedly — because they are excellent golfers. I’ve always thought one of the most useful skills to have is to play golf well. Not only is itgreat for the career, but head guys don’t mind giving you money in the inevitable betting.

Damn, and despite NOW president Patricia Ireland’s complaints in the lead up to the Iraq invasion, the private Augusta Masters tournament is still a male only bastion of privilege. However, because of Title Nine, the gender ratio is 1 to 1 for American law school graduates, even if the girls can’t play Augusta. And although the boys and girls get equal pay for time and grade, male soldiers are still disproportionately represented in the armed forces; in fact, the gender ratio of males killed in action is 44 to 1 token. In the push for egalitarian health care costs and benefits, looks to me like we could use some equal dying for equal pay, perhaps by extending Title Nine to the military, and bring back those “death panels” called the “local draft board” for an egalitarian conscription? Of course, that would mean the girls would have to register for the draft too; wasn’t that an Obama campaign promise? Yeah, the troops are tired, the services need fresh blood, bring back the draft, the other affirmative action.

I dont’ care if Rush called Obama “boy”. So? I could think of more degrading things to say about Obama and minions, they would all be true.

Anything to divert our attention to what is going on in our country and Afghanistan. Obama is a failure, period.
only 9 months and the “boy” has shown us how little he cares about our country. Who the hell elected this failure to run our country!!! OMG!! he must be laughing that a country this great would stoop so low.

Oct 28, 2009 - 8:37 am 37. JKB:

Isn’t it enough that he speaks of diversity. Living it is for those other people.

Besides, as James Joyner notes, “He’s a very good basketball player, especially for a middle aged Harvard Law graduate with a busy schedule. Unless he’s going to invite elite level women’s players (i.e., people good enough for the Olympics or the WNBA) they’re not going to be very good competition. For that matter, aside from pre-pubescent children, who ever heard of co-ed basketball teams?”

Apparently, talking about women’s equality is one thing but when it comes right down to it, only the elite women players are able to compete with a middle-aged smoker, who enjoys a talent for the game.

I’m reminded of a quote, something about all are equal but some are more equal. Oh well, better just to take a good game but never let them actually in the game.

Oct 28, 2009 - 8:56 am 42. CosmicConservative:

First off, I’d rather Barack Obama be playing golf with Martians than be in the Oval Office attacking this nation’s most fundamental principles and foundations. The more time he’s playing basketball, golf, tennis, air hockey or World of Warcraft, the better for this country. In fact if we could somehow get him hooked on World of Warcraft so that he “neglects” his duties as POTUS so he can scarf down Cheetos in the WH basement while whacking away at virtual enemies, that would probably be the best thing we could do to save this nation.

The fact that he prefers to play with men than with women just proves what everyone with a brain should know already, which is that Obama is a duplicitous hypocrite of the first order. When are people going to ask how many gay golf partners he has?

But whether he’s playing with men, women or garden gnomes, I say keep him playing. He’s far less dangerous to this nation with a golf club in his hand than with a pen.

I think if Obama wants to play golf with a bunch of old friends from college and they are all male – so what? The only reason this becomes an issue is that he is doing it with his staff, and so preferential treatment of some over others becomes an issue, particularly because he represents the party of diversity. I can understand men wanting time with “just the boys” and I don’t have a problem with all-male social clubs or colleges. I do have a problem with hypocrisy. If you are going to decry discriminatory practices for others, then you need to be above reproach yourself.

I wouldn’t let this be a main concern of worry for our country, it’s silly

Why is anyone surprised by this?

All “liberal” men behave that way. They are the ones who are the “knuckle draggers” and always have been. A line from Mona Ramsay* from ’70’s era San Francisco summed them up nicely; “Underneath all that hair and Patchouli beats the heart of a true pig.”. The hair styles and “scent” of choice may have changed, but the liberal male stays the same-a true pig.

Oct 28, 2009 - 9:55 am 53. truepeers:

Helen, in postmodern “liberalism” there are meta irrationalities that overrule other rules. It’s kind of like the Islamic rule whereby Mohammed’s later life values supercede his initial premises.

In other words, we no longer live in an age where the liberal believes in the universal rule of law – such beliefs are now seen as tools of bourgeois white male oppression. We now live in an age where those deemed, by the righteous, to be legitimate victims don’t have to play the rules enforced on established privilege. As this site keeps pointing out, when do you ever hear today’s liberals complaining about, say, Islamic oppression of women, homosexuals, slaves, unmarried forever single men, dhimmis, etc.

Today’s liberalism is inherently racist and manipulative of gender. He is playing by Liberal rules!!

• Phyllys Chesler….who oddly enough wants me to subscribe to her e-mail newsletter, but won’t let me comment on her threads here.

• Michael Ledeen….who has an interesting article today, that I just pointed out to my local hard-copy newspaper as something they could learn from.

• Roger and Roger….neither of whom will explain, considering their high position in this venue, why they won’t let me comment here. And all I’ve done is all I’ve done on THIS THREAD.

The list goes on and on. However, the most intriguing aspect is that no one who is a commenter here is willing to provide me….and likely anyone else….with the terms of agreement between themselves and whomever REALLY is running PJM. I’ve asked several and no one has been particularly ‘forthcoming’. The impression is that their grandchildren will die if they divulge the terms.

Is THIS anyway to run a ‘public forum’?

OK, I’ve managed to pull you through your wildly disconnected consciounsess on who was talking about “boys.” Good, Donna, that’s a start.

Now . . .

“So it’s offensive to refer to Obama as “this little boy, this little man-child President”

Well, “offensive” is such a personal thing. I’ll leave that to your conscience. But it IS racist (despite the guilty protestations of ScottR up there in cell #43). Just like it was racist last week when Limbaugh described college-aged Obama as a boy (no man-child that time, not that it matters.)

Don’t take my word for it. Ask any black man.

Now, Donna, if you’re going to play dumb, you have to be prepared to accept the consequences. I know you REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY want Rush to not be a racist, but I’m sorry, he is. And he has plenty of company in the right wing militia you call conservatism. So stand warned – we trolls don’t release you from responsiblity just because you write something really stupid. I’m of the opinion that Obama is probably the most henpecked president we’ve ever had. He’s surrounded by strong women who apparently tell him what to do: Michelle, Valerie Jarrett, that dim bulb smacky-lips who hearts Mao. So he escapes to the golf course with the boys, which is a good place for him to be since it limits the time he has to further damage the country. And besides, he doesn’t want to play with women who might be better than he is.

Oct 28, 2009 - 1:46 pm 73. Donna V.:

No, “this little boy, this little man-child President” is an accurate description of the character in the WH. So is “wuss,” “sissy,” “whiner,” “Nellie Olson,” and any other insult which accurately describes the ever complaining Neutered One’s lack of cojones.

They’re pretty good descriptions of you too.

No matter how you look at it or whatever you want to call it, pushing DIVERSITY of any kind, is discrimination. The moment you consider forcing any person to hire, associate, be educated with, be taught by, be led by, hang out with, or anything resembling these situations you are discriminating against that person and their rights. If I am forced to hire or promote someone because of their ethnicity, culture, gender, etc. I no longer have the freedom to create a meridocricy in my business were the best & the brightest are rewarded by their efforts and nothing else. Every time my children apply for college or a job they are discriminated against when they have to disclose their ethnicity or heritage. America’s greatness was not created by forced integration. America’s greatness was created by honest hard work from all different groups. Forcing diversity only creates more resentment & discrimination. How often to women invite men into their circles? Rarely. Most women’s groups keep men out. Can’t the poor guy play golf or basketball with the boys? By forcing the president to integrate his networks we are just as bad as the liberals. Not that I like the guy, but let’s attack him on things that really matter like healthcare & Cap and Trade, etc.

Rick. They’re equally important, the very essence of this idea is flawed. The writer takes one comment from one individual, makes it the standard of liberals, and then calls out Obama on hypocrisy for not living up to it. That kind of thinking is so incredibly faulty that I think you would be embarrassed to be agreeing with it. Its like my saying that Charles Krauthammer once said, X, Bush doesn’t do X, other conservatives don’t call Bush out on it, so Bush and all of the world’s conservatives are hypocrites. That’s the lamest argument I can imagine making. Its the stuff of 4th grade intellects.

Helen, you don’t go far enough.

We need to outlaw games and activities in which both genders cannot participate together. Violations should be prosecuted as a federal hate crime. (To compensate for millenia of patriarchal oppression, it’s okay if the rules give females an advantage.)

Joking aside, what a ridiculously frivolous issue this is. We are at war, the risk of depression is not completely behind us, and the country’s finances are falling apart. With all that going on, it is ominous that some of our national elites treat this frivolous matter seriously.

Those not familiar with odd proclivities of conflicted males should take into account that the fellow was mentored by a Gay Communist in Hawaii, running from Anti American Activities investigation, way back in the late 50’s. Perhaps he was passed on by grandpa to his local buddy a man he names as Frank in his first phony memoir-made up from scraps of notes and lots of borrowed words from various books written by self proclaimed anarchist Billy Ayre. Frank is a real person, whom he and his ghost writer try to dodge: A certified gay Commie. Nice start for a high school chap, taking drugs and goofing around. Than the trail goes cold. Until his “marriage” to the “beard frau” angry Michel, there is no evidence that he dated any girl, had a relations with a single woman. Every stop on the trail has been scrubbed. This includes the many parking tickets in Harvard, which were only paid shortly before announcing a run for the big office. Is it not odd that a good looking hunk is with him all the time while the “beard” is with the two daughters? Hunky Reggie stays with him until late at night to revise the “speeches”, as noted from the visit to Saudia, before the surrender address in Cairo’s sharia central. Is it not odd that next door is another fella, dancer, schemer and a talented equivocator doing all the awful missions for him. The “Safety Czar” for the little boys is a certified pervert. At one point an astute journalist will figure out that there is a big story here and pick enough material to run with in the open. This is perhaps one of the biggest entry point for any young investigative reporter in this century: To unmask the true identity of a phony who took the White House and turned it into a weird establishment for various perverts. I am sure most voters did not bargain for this deal.

With all the malfeasance and all the calamity and all the corruption and all the deception, dishonesty and deceit beset upon our once great nation the gender make up of those who surround this POTUS isn’t even in the Top 100.

You want sympathy? How about a new generation of American women reform American media? A new generation of American women who reject the culture of corruption?

How about a new generation of American women who reject a system that rewards a Valerie Jarrett and besieges a Condi Rice? Reject a system that pampers an Anita Dunn and persecutes a Sarah Palin?

You want sympathy? Earn it. Earn it the way the women who founded this great country earned. Code Pink? Are you kidding? Try Code Red!

IF the media deigns to ask the movers and shakers from Trinity Church, and from the inner sanctums of Chicago, they will find out the reason why Obama surrounds himself with ‘men only’ cliques.

It is not because he is a garden variety chauvinist. Not at all. It is because he is on the down low. What this means is that he PREFERS male company to female company, regardless that he is married. Being on the down low includes being married, but relishing the men at the expense of the women-in the carnal sense of the word.

This IS a major elephant in Obama’s secret closet.

If he wants to hang out with guys, I’m down with that. Heck, it might even allow him to pick up some spare testosterone. Besides, he has a wife and two daughters. I know how that is. Sometimes you just need the company of guys as a change of pace.

This is just more feminist tyranny. They’re worried that they will be denied opportunities. There’s probably a little something to it, even these days, but a guy needs to be a guy, sometimes, y’know? Geez, let the guy have some fun. I’m standing up for him, and I can’t even stand him! Sheesh!

The Chicago Democrat machine is an all-male club. And it is inclusive of African-Americans. But it is a completely and totally paternal organization — you know, they know what is “right” and they don’t need anyone lecturing them on the subject.

For all of you who thought this President was going to be “inclusive”, do you now believe that he is perhaps much less (as in nowhere near) as inclusive as the previous occupant of the Oval Office (who, as I recall had a staff of advisors that was truly “rainbow”)?

An afterthought to my #92:

From the Tapper piece that Helen linked:

Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius played basketball for Trinity University in Washington, D.C. The day before the all-male White House hoops game, Jay Leno asked her who might win a game of HORSE between her and the president. (p)”You know I actually made my college basketball team,” she said as the crowd laughed. “I’m not sure he did so you know, bring it on.”

I thought it went without saying that you never publicly treat your boss with anything less than complete respect.

But maybe millenia of patriarchal oppression entitle you to be sassy.

(Btw, Obama is 48 and Sebelius is 61.)
