Iran will not be attacked before the elections. That's ridiculous. For better or for worse, no other significant event will occur on GW Bush's watch. Everything he's done for the past five years or so has been viciously and mindlessly attacked by both the Dems in Congress and by the media, so the only politically sensible course is to do nothing.

Whoever takes office in January will inherit all these messes in the exact forms they're in now, and since no one running appears to have magical powers or a direct line to God, these problems will continue after Bush is gone -- which is exactly the response I've been giving all the Bush-haters for years.

I keep hearing about the mass of Iranians who are dissatisfied with the Khomeinians, can't we appeal and support them rather than start yet another war?

Gee Josh, why would we, the voters want straight talk? Because we never get any. In particular, the past forty years have been not seen much truth, justice or the American Way strewn anywhere on the planet. Want we want means nothing to the MSM or politicians of all sides and stripes. They're only interested in money and power and how to achieve more of it. Obama is an empty suit looking for a fill up of both!!

Here, here Tom W. The political fallout (horrible pun not intended) here would be most interesting. Bush may indeed go ahead, having nothing to lose politically. McCain will, rightly or wrongly, be seen as Bush 2 and this will hurt him poliitically if it is a tight race between him and Obama.

Overseas, there have been some intersting things happening. Not a peep about Israel bombing the Syrian/Korean nuke plant, Tzipi Livni being invited to speak in Qatar and even the Saudi king supposedly inviting US Jewish leaders to a conference in the kingdom. And of course Iraq slowly but seemingly surely heading towards stability.

Hmmmm BOMBS AWAY!

The U.S. will strike Iran before the elections, in order to destroy the Revolutionary Guards' offensive military capabilities. This is the only way peace will be achieved in Iraq and the wider region.

Currently the Israelis and the Syrians are talking, much to the surprise of everybody. It seems that the Syrians are positioning themselves for a post-Iran reality.

In fact, most of the recent American, Gulf Arab, and Israeli actions make sense only within the context of a greatly weakened Iran that is no longer providing arms to the Madhi Army, Hamas, and Hezbollah.

A sustained bombing campaign using B-2 stealth bombers, naval air assets, and cruise missiles would destroy the Revolutionary Guards in a few days.

The Iranians use a Russian air-defense system that the Israelis--using American equipment--were able to knock utterly out of action. Essentially, Iran has no defense against an air campaign.

The Iranians may try to launch a wave of missiles at Israel in retaliation, but the Israelis have already warned the world that they will respond with nuclear weapons. I believe them.

The alternate to all this is to let Iran continue to expand its influence, destabilizing the region, destabilizing the global oil market, and soon getting its hands on nuclear weapons, which its leaders have said they would use without hesitation.

An air campaign against Iran would be risky, but doing nothing will lead to a much broader war in the future.

It's time we end this threat once and for all. The Iranians have been supporting international terrorism for thirty years. They must be stopped.
