Obama: The Great Leveler

The president wants everyone to be equal — from their wealth to their nuclear weapons capabilities.

Barack Obama ran for president on a promise to raise taxes on everyone who makes $250,000 or more a year. His running mate defended the tax hike by saying that “people who are well-off have a patriotic duty to pay higher taxes.” Under the guise of “[spreading] the wealth around,” Obama acts as if his goal is to lift the poor above poverty so they too can enjoy the American dream. But in reality, his plan is to push the rich down closer to the poverty line, so that the equality Americans enjoy can be one of dependence on an intrusive, but increasingly necessary, federal government.

This is Obama’s way of leveling the playing field. Instead of removing the myriad of government regulations that hinder the entrepreneurial spirit in this country, he will use tax hikes and redistribution schemes to break the will of the ambitious and energetic, forcing everyone to accept a life devoid of opulence or ease. It seems the rich have become so only off the sweat of the poor. Or to use Obama’s own words: “The strong too often dominate the weak, and too many of those with wealth and with power find all manner of justification for their own privilege in the face of poverty and injustice.”

In April 2008, Michelle Obama explained how her husband’s goal of taxing the rich into paying their fair share was going to work: “Most Americans don’t want much. They don’t want the whole pie. There are some who do, but most Americans feel blessed just being able to thrive a little bit. … [Yet], in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more.”

On June 7, 2009, the Great Leveler proved his wife’s explanation correct when he said he “wants Congress to consider taxing the wealthy instead of workers to pay for a health care overhaul.” He also urged Congress to further limit “all tax deductions for Americans in the highest tax brackets.” So that those making the most will also be paying the most, and those working the least can be promised a windfall.

And why not?

Obama will be comfortable, even after the presidency he won’t want for money, power, food, security, or healthcare.

Al Gore, for example, doesn’t have a problem with gaining mansions, giant boats or expanding a jet-setting lifestyle.

The “leveling” whether it comes in medical rationing, energy rationing, wealth redistribution, entrepreneurial restrictions, and degrades state and personal defense won’t hurt Obama or his cronies.

Just look at the rampant tax fraud on the White House staff.

And such “leveling” helps him and his. Government is growing in jobs, money, and power. On the macro scale he gets the leveling he wants, while also increasing, unleveling, his personal power.

Nice work if you can get it.

I often use the term ‘lowest common denominator’ in place of the term ‘equality’. It often lends a bit more perspective to the discussion.

Have no fear AWR! Sanctimonious leftists are raped by reality in dramatic fashion and your boy Barry is headed for a spectacular collision with reality pretty soon. Its going to be a memorable collapse. Since we can’t do anything about it until the midterms I suggest you get yourself some popcorn and a few brews sit back with the rest of us and watch this effete cretin go down in flames. for example look at his Iran policy. On Friday he all but took credit for getting Mousavi elected and made an ass out of himself in the Rose Garden and by Saturday he had no Iran policy left. Poof! Gone! Come on that is comedy gold man.

My late mother had a standard response when somebody used the “slices of pie” analogy in an economic/political context.

She would say, “The answer isn’t slicing the ‘pie’ into smaller and smaller portions; the correct solution is to bake a second pie. Socialists and environmentalists and other assorted ‘reformers’, however, are determined to prevent any more pies from being made, so they can achieve absolute power by their control of the one we have now. And a lot of them resent the fact that we even have that one pie to begin with.”

I might add that she was a CPA, and had run a business besides being a government employee. So I’d tend to believe she had a better grasp of the realities than most of those trying to “manage” the country today. Including The One.

As someone who understands how the rich view their tax obligations, and what best motivates their charitable giving, I offer the following-

The more tax burdens the gov’t places on them the less they will voluntarily give. This is a fact, even with those making several million a year.

Of course the leadership knows this. The question becomes, why kill the charitable golden goose, if helping to lift the poor IS the main objective?

Like the writer noted, the objective is NOT to help the poor, but to bring down the upper class to a more tolerable level, hoping at some point to squash their money making abilities.

As someone who spent 20 years as the co-owner of a high net worth, east coast tax practice I see the writing clearly on the wall – by the next generation few will dare venture out on their own to make their fortunes.

As the sun rises and sets, the above inevitability is also guaranteed. It is Obama’s MAIN goal, as he is a True Believer.

Everyone is equal—but some people are more equal than others. Barack Obama has no intention of living the “equal” life. He and his fellow suffering elites deserve more of the pie because of their incredible sacrifices on our behalf. At the end of the day, Obama is minimally an unwitting fascist. The historical record clearly shows that these sort of people always make sure their bread is well buttered.

Dictators other ways of leveling the playing field.

Extreme terrorism and nuclear bombs.

I wonder if Obama will applaud Iran if they vaporize Israel tonight, or Chicago in the early morning of the next day there’s a beautiful blue sky?

The voters asked for this creep. They got him.

Now they have no choice but to live with him.

Barack Obama is also merely following in the footsteps of the famous socialist Martin Luther King, Jr. He adamantly advocated sharing the wealth—and pushed affirmative action so-called remedies. The widespread myths concerning King have greatly damaged the country. They helped to open the doors to non-violent radical leftists like Saul Alinsky and Obama. It is amazing how few know the truth about King. The facts are very easy to find. One only needs to read the widely available, The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr, edited by Clayborne Carson. Yup, that’s right. You can easily read Rev. King’s own words! You don’t have to take my word for anything.

Your rock star husband can give up traveling about the planet, having made several apology tours already in just a few months of office, each of which costs millions maybe billions. (since we speak in trillions now, I guess that’s chump change)

The whole notion of using federal powers to level some imaginary playing field according to Barack’s personal version of “fairness” or levelling is, intrinsically, abhorrent.

Our President is simply anti-American. I know that sounds like hyperbole but he is. The leveling attempts I’ve noticed, and which Hawkins has described, are nothing less than small parts of a larger attempts to end the country we have loved.

Good one. Not only is Obama doing the things Hawkins described, but he is doing it without apology, and that makes it even worse. He is a dangerous man.

Jun 14, 2009 - 8:10 am 18. Concerned:

The reality of life is that Obama is our elected president, like it or not. The question is how do we survive in this morass of socialism. There is only one method that I can think of. Vote out of office enough of the SOBs, that support this socialist agenda, and replace them with something better. If you really feel froggy, you need to start impeachment proceedings against some of these turkeys to get them removed from office before they do more damage.

Unfortunately, our supreme court in its ruling for the Chrysler buyout by Fiat, and rejecting the position of the secured bondholders, has opened up a real can of worms. This decision will be used as precedent and the basis for additional rulings that are similar. Since supreme court justices are appointed by Presidents for life, to remove one, you must first impeach him/her in the house and then the senate can vote to remove the individual. A long drawn out process at best which could only proceed after you have replaced the current house and senate with like mined individuals.

Yes, the future does not look bright under Obama. We have a media that is not interested in truth, a government that wants to silence descent (wasn’t that the highest form of patriotism in the last administration); higher taxes (gotta support all those unemployed), massive inflation (a trillion here, a trillion there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money); third world military status (by disarming we show we care more about appearances than the reality of the world); a much more dangerous world with the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (after all its their right to have them, and we shouldn’t say who can or can’t); but look at the bright side, we will have a single payer medical system, where you can expect long lines and rationing (oh, excuse me those aren’t really benefits); but I guess you gotta take what you get, after all a recent newscaster equated Obama to GOD, and we all know that Gods are omnipotent, endowed with infallible knowledge and abilities, and NEVER MAKE MISTAKES.

Is it appropriate to add – THOSE WHOM THE GODS WISH TO DESTROY THEY FIRST MAKE MAD (INSANE) !!!!!

What about stinky people too? There are people that can’t help that they stink to high heaven.

I’m out busting my B#@@$ and loosing 1/2 of my check & could be making the same money or more to sit at home and not do a #@*% thing.
I’m not into a Civil war but something has to be done, it’s no longer profitable to go to work. We haven’t even started being taxed for the bailouts, universal healthcare, wars, etc. I’ll be working for $1.50 a week take home after that all kicks in…

The man who really is the power is the one who funded the 527’s since the Clinton days and on through the Bush years: George Soros and his coterie of oligarchs.

They prepared for this moment and now have maneuvered Teleprompter Jesus to the fore. A lot of things came together to make this happen, and some were being worked many years in advance.

I think at Columbia Zbigniew Brezhinski found Barry Sotero and began the process of preparing him for bigger and better things. The connections and influence: the House of Saud and the Ford Foundation (his mother’s connections, since she worked for them). I also think he got into the Communists’ network via Billy Ayers when he was at Columbia.

This was no accident. And it worries me because of what it says about these people’s calculations about the American people. I guess we are dumb motherf***ers (most of us, anyway).

The arrogance of BHO and crew is stunning but get over it. They think they have it all wired. They think that they can put things in place that can’t be undone. So it appears.
You hear this all the time from supposedly conservative law makers and pundits; that once these new laws and programs are instituted they can’t be undone. Supposedly you can’t replace a Supreme Court justice since they are appointed for life. This is all crap, anything can be undone all the way back to zero if need be. When we get back to truth and justice we can roll back anything. The decades of fraud both governmental and financial have been exposed and if these truths are acted upon we can stop on a dime every screwed up program in existence and the people that implemented them and lied about it later. It can happen in a very short period of time.
The BHO crowd of corruption is in a big hurry to take away wealth and freedom that has been given by the grace of God. They are pumping out lies and propaganda by the ton.
Why are they in such a big hurry? Who are they afraid of? Are these like the days of Herod when he heard the King of the Jews was being born and he ordered the killing of all the firstborn males under two years old in hopes of knocking off Jesus whom he viewed as a threat?
Why is the BHO crowd so fearful of your wealth and freedom? Why do they buddy up with our enemies? It seems they want to destroy us before we destroy them. We have reached the tipping point.
Does the BHO crowd know they are already doomed? Probably not.
The BHO crowd and all of their supporters have been judged and set aside for destruction since the foundation of the world. God has been patient until His harvest is ripe. He did not remove the wicked for fear of hurting the good.
Now the harvest is ripe and the wheat will be saved and the chaff destroyed by fire. Watch as He separates the wicked into their groups and exposes their deeds, He has made them feel safe in their confusion. It is their last roundup.
Prepare yourselves for this spectacle; just don’t get caught in it.

JD #19 – “How about making it one’s “patriotic duty” to get a F###ING job.”

You are absolutely right! For too long, people who don’t work have been painted as victims of “the system,” even when they work harder at trying not to find a job than at actually finding one. Then we are told that they “deserve” a piece of the pie? Why? What do we owe them? Yes, the Left will start their BS about being the riches country in the world and not helping “those poor people who have nothing.” Well, if I had nothing, I would get off my a$$ and find a job. Simple.

Then there’s the supposed “bad” intercity schools. If you have students that show up to class late (when they show up), sleep in class, don’t participate in class learning, threaten teachers, assault teachers, and use schools as places to socialize, sell drugs, etc. Why should anyone think of sending the best teachers to that type of he!!hole? You can only teach those who are willing to learn. But of course these people know that the more ignorant they are, the more the government likes them. They will be taken care of in one way or another.

Maybe once Obama is done taxing all the celebrities who support his a$$inine ideas, they will change their mind and start campaigning for those who are for freedom, and who will tax people fairly, not by some sort of Robin Hood, who will tax anything and everything to “level the playing field.” All that does is ensure that companies raise prices. If the cigarette tax is 5¢ per pack, the price goes up by 75¢. How do they justify the price increase? They claim they have to charge more to make up for all the people that will quit. Nice to be a pawn in someone else’s game.

But, take heart, for change is on the way. James Carville just lost in the Virginia primaries for Governor. He thought he could campaign on Obama’s hope and change message. I think it was he who got the message. Small, incremental change, but change nonetheless.

Change is coming, we are SO close to the waterfall, but it won’t be what the Left had in mind.

Jun 15, 2009 - 11:36 am 53. Mike:

While Obama cannot “control” the nation for more than 8 years, the policies he pursues during his term can have lasting effects. He is already levelling much of the economy, and I would guess that ~50% of GDP is in some way directly or indirectly controlled by Obama, from banks to auto. Although GM is not that big as a single entity, the entire auto supply chain is far larger, and that is now affected by the decisions of Obama (and congress). If you add the aspirations of government health care, then government would control a majority of the economy in the short and medium terms, if not long term.

It is pure hubris to believe that business can be micro-legislated by congress, and micro-managed by an Obama-like executive. In making attempts to go down the path of socialism, we will have lost a great deal of time, and done great harm to the country’s reputation as an entrepreneurial economy. Obama cannot see the damage he is doing to entrepreneurs, because he believes that government regulation is an acceptable tool to manage risk, and he disparages risk as an economic means to an end. The presence of risk in the economy allows great success and great failure, but it should not be up to congress or Obama to decide the winners and losers.

Right on. Terry McAuliffe went down in glorious flames, just as he should have. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, and Clinton, Carville & Co., ain’t him.
Hannity’s Liberal Translation did a great job on McAuliffe’s concession speech over the weekend.

Thank you. You’re absolutely right, it was Terry McAuliffe (and here you thought my user id was just a cute name I chose out of the blue ;-) ) Sometimes it’s hard to tell all of the Clinton people apart. They all sound the same.

Paul-Indiana, #48 – I did not vote for Obama. I saw through his BS right from the beginning.

So Obama is the Great Leveler in wanting to removing a flawed and expensive missile defense system, eliminating nuclear weapons and trying to ensure space does not become a future battleground. And these are bad things? I say level away.

I would like to think that in the next 40 years or so I have left on this planet that humankind would evolve beyond war.

Even Karl Marx understood that if all the wealth in a community was shared equally, withing a year there would again be rich people and poor people.

#55. Confused in Virginia-not. Many of us saw through that Chicago politician. I post that line fairly often and have only gotten a single affirmation. People are catching on, too late.
