Obama’s Diversionary Tactics: Stickers and Straw Men
From unveiling new emblems to attacking Rush Limbaugh, Obama sure knows how to change the subject from a tanking economy. (Jennifer Rubin discusses the White House War on Rush, and disillusioned pro-Obama pundits, in the latest edition of Pajamas' weekly PJM Political radio show, now online here.)
President Obama announced this week that projects funded by the so-called stimulus bill will receive a special emblem so the unwashed masses will be able to recognize the effects of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. I’d suggest a design that includes a toilet with a wad of cash inside, but Newsweek might sue me for “stealing” my inspiration from one of their more infamous news items back in 2005. Besides, a more tasteful and restrained design has already been chosen — one that gives Americans more reassurance from that “official” look rather than the reality of hard-earned cash being flushed away.
Frankly, I’m surprised they don’t either use the stylized “O” from the campaign (Pepsi seems to like it) or just use Barry’s face. I mean, doesn’t the whole scheme smack of free advertising for The OneTM? Not that he needs it, what with all the sycophantic coverage he receives in the mainstream press. Even his sipping a beer at a basketball game is cause for excitement. Perhaps Rahm Emanuel will organize a contest challenging us to guess which kind of beer Obama likes the most. Out of the correct answers, a drawing will be held and the winner will not only get a ride on Air Force One, but will get to sit next to Kathleen Parker. Apologies to the cheerleaders over at MSNBC: if you’re employed by a media outlet you’re not eligible to enter.
Obama’s need to use special emblems may trace back to kindergarten, where he got gold stars or smiley faces on his chart when he shared his peanut butter sandwiches and his toys. Unfortunately he received frowny faces when he tried to appropriate everyone else’s lunches and playthings and divvy them up on the playground as he saw fit, but he doesn’t like to talk about what he calls “the dark days.”
Actually, the whole thing brings to mind the “royal warrant of appointment,” used in Britain and a few other nations that still have monarchies. Basically, if the royal family uses a particular product and really likes it, they give the company permission to put a special seal on that product, lending a certain level of prestige to the product and the company that creates it. Hyacinth Bucket can attest to the importance of the royal warrant when picking out new living room furniture.
All hail King Obama? It’s beginning to feel like it. Perhaps the old European custom of being received at court will be revived right here in the United States. I’d better start practicing my curtsy.
Seriously, though, think about it: if you have to advertise that something is working, it’s probably not. It’s like putting a smiley face sticker on the gas pedal in your car. If it does what it’s supposed to do — make your car go — then there’s no need to call attention to it, as the car’s moving down the road would be self-evident, just as an economic stimulus would be indicated by a steady rise in the stock market, a rise in consumer confidence levels, and a leveling off of unemployment.
The emblem and its unveiling is simply another diversionary tactic used by the Obama administration. “Lookee here, the stimulus is working. We have special emblems and everything!” Meanwhile the stock market continues to plunge up and down like a bucking bronco, with the American investor holding desperately to the saddle horn.

All the emblems, straw issues and phoney-baloney media hype can’t put Obama back together once he falls off the wall — sooner or later it will happen — I just pray it will be sooner!

It will mimic the “uncomfortable pause” that occurred the other day while the latest HHS nominee waited for the teleprompters to drop back in to hiding, only it will be open ended.
It will indicate that the synchophants in the media have finally realized how obvious and frequent are the evidences of his incompetence.

Mar 7, 2009 - 4:34 am 5. PAR:Hugo Chavez Obama claimed that saving 25 police jobs in Ohio is proof that the stimulus is working. I couldn’t stop laughing. Well only 3,499,975 jobs to go. By the way BO how many jobs did we lose last month? I wonder how many of those losses are due to the panic selling in the stock market and the fear that it caused. This guy has no shame. He will say or do anything to convince people he is right. If you want to see our future just look at Venezuela. However, more and more people are leaving his morally bankrupt program. Even Mayor Bloomerg of NY has now come out against the BO tax hikes and people are calling the decline in the stock market, the Obama Bear market. Anyone want to bet how long it takes the American people to catch on? Until they do just keep on laughing this guy and his team of bunglers or should I say burglars are a riot.

We could even put the symbol on knife handles and carve it over the doors of our government buildings. Maybe we can make flags with the symbol and mount them on poles that people can carry around in marching parades? We should burn all the other symbols in a big pile marching around while holding these new pole-mounted flags and singing” Yes we did!”, and use the fist bump as our salute! We can imprison anyone who refuses to swear allegiance to the symbol, and abort the mentally or physically deficient, and allow old people to “die with dignity” so they do not drain our precious healthcare dollars needed for the Fatherland and our Furher, I mean Messiah. We will need a little healthcare symbol, too. Maybe a skull over crossed syringes, though I think something similiar has been done before. We will become Supermen!

My only comment is that people think Rush is polarizing because they are told he is.
Obama is truly a polarizing figure. Not only that, everyone around him or that has been around him is or tries to be,
I think everything that is written about Obama should start with “President Obama who is a polarizing figure”….. etc.
Mar 7, 2009 - 5:22 am 12. formwiz:You know, like “Bill Clinton, the polarizing impeached ex president”.
Just write it and say it over and over and over….. things will start sticking to them.
The stickers are a gimmick (and that’s the only word for it) borrowed from the NRA back in the depression. I’ll bet Rahmbo is so proud of himself for coming up with the idea.
As for Rush, for the President of the United States to pick on a talk show host, even one as successful as the Fat Man, makes Bambi and the rest of the Little Men look small, not the other way around.

The White House’s focus on Rush will continue for about another week and then it’s time to play the race card again, right?

“The Medium is the Message”
Have you noticed how Darkest Pajamastán is rigged in advance for the “bait and switch” gimmick? It happens to this keyboard frequently — and I daresay this keyboard deserves it, being a cultivated despiser of — but anyway, there it is: one can see either half of each scribble separately with the wisdom of the peanut gallery at the bottom, or the printable (_sic_) version in tiny type with no peanuts, but never the whole _megillah_ all at once.
Q. Can the neocomrades have designed it on purpose?
A. No, it must be Darwinism. They are not that clever.
The piece at hand is exceptionally suitable since the neocomradess scribblin’ has nothin’ substantial to say on either page, only K. Rove and M. MacLuhan class agitprop and iconography. (( Pardon me while I give the former his better-than-equal time:
“WE are an Empire now! And when WE act, WE create our own Reality!!”
OK, time to move on. Where was I? ))
Ah, yes, baited and switched (swutch?) was I. The goods advertised in the shop window were MacLuhanesque “a toilet with a wad of cash inside”, but step inside and what one finds is not at all the West Pajamatown branch of the Andy Warhol Museum of Cultsure, only yet another incensodoriferous shrine to the Witch Doctor of Democracy™, “Rush Limbaugh isn’t perfect, but he’s closer to the minds of most Americans than” &c. &c.
Lacking the advantages (if there be any) of a post-1968 wombschoolin’ as I do, Page Two seems automatically superior to Page One simply because it neither contains nor discusses icons / images / cartoons / heraldry. Nevertheless, the fact remains that there is no discernible reason why Page Two should follow Page One.
The neocomradess might at least have included [A] a snapshot of Himself side by side with [B] the Mark of the Beast for her PJ kiddies to kompare ’n’ kontrast! I appreciate that it would be a violation of Big Management Party Axiom CCCXVIII (”History is bunk”) for Neocomradess P. Meister to include [C] the salient _Urbild_ from the dark ages of Franklin Delano Depression. Not being so constrained myself, I had only to struggle with that “SRC IMG= ALIGN=” fandango, with such success or failure as [D] anybody may go see for herself.
Speakin’ of Himself, [E] the marketin’ arm seems not yet to have thought of makin’ available a Mount Rushbo bumper- or windshield-sticker for the devotees to paste on all their principal belongin’s as a sign that they–both dittoheads and wordly goods–are 100% unpolluted by any [expletive deleted] public-sector content. And damned proud of it!
Happy days.

Mar 7, 2009 - 6:37 am 17. Rubicon:Emblems to distinguish recovery projects. How middle school will they get? When the first campaign emblem showed up, my 94 y/o mother said, this guy is full of himself. She is NOT politically active or astute, but she saw it!
Mar 7, 2009 - 6:41 am 18. RickB308:The plane, the podium emblem, all of these emblem’s just came across as so pretentiously silly.
What no one has mentioned here is what really fascinates me. Think about it folks…. think,
“The seeds were planted in October after Democracy Corps, the Democratic polling company run by Carville and Greenberg, included Limbaugh’s name in a survey and found that many Americans just don’t like him.”
A polling organization tied to the Democrat party, announced by the alphabet media (now officially referred to as the PR department of the Obama administration & Democrat party), did a poll that said Americans don’t like Rush.
Yeah, right! Come on now folks, how pathetic is this? A Democrat polling company, conducted a poll, and the results are, people hate a (& perhaps all) conservatives.
I’d say the Democrats responded to a “push poll” designed to evoke a specific response by a specific demographic who would response negatively to anything & everything related to, Republicans, conservatives, Christians, Bush, Cheney, elephants, etc., etc.
The problem for Democrats is, as I see it, they bought into one of their own polls, & then they foolishly tried to sell it to the public as a real, authoritative, poll response. Then, Democrats tried to sell this through the PR department for the Obama administration & the Democrat party (that would be the alphabet TV networks like NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CBS, NPR, the New York Times, CNN, & the plethora of others),
to the American public.
How accurate can they think such a poll is? How stupid is it that they actually tried to push this as something all should accept as fact?
I have this coastal beach-front property located in northeastern New Mexico that I want to sell to the Democrat’s & any others who but into the legitimacy of this “poll.”

In Shakespeare’s Henry IV part 2 the King asks his son?

I do not count this a grand scheme of Obama’s; he is merely a mal-equipped product of affirmative action and Chicago machine politics.
Sadly, Mr B, he is just stupid and vain enough to do cling to his office — even if our country and way of life goes into the toilet.
One of two things will happen: he will preside over a confederation of dunces who will do their imitation of Slim Pickens, riding the bomb all the way from the bowels of the B-52 to the air burst or he and they will manage to throttle back a bit and the mighty engine of the American economy — despite them — will regain some of what it lost and people will be dumb enough and reluctant enough to vote for the status quo in 2010 and 2012.
If that latter alternative occurs, I just hope enough of us remember the pain we’re feeling now.

4. small business owners, who are being taxed to the hilt, bail (and watch many people employed by small business lose their jobs)
both 3 & 4 – businesses can’t make money if no one is BUYING. They have no choice but to cut expenses.
5. foreign investors who decide to collect on the American governments debt to them. The government pays off that debt by PRINTING money. Printing money leads to double digit (or greater) inflation. Get a wheelbarrow.

Mar 7, 2009 - 5:26 pm 56. Alana:/
OBAMA DRIVEN
CLOWARD-PIVEN
FUTURE DIMMIN’
US CITIZENS
FLIPPIN’ MAD
/
Not great, but makes the point.

Can we have some other suggestions for protest banners? We can collect them and hold a protest and contest at the same time. Maybe we can get some media attention.
My husband thinks the homes of those who are getting the mortgage bailout (which apparently includes 5k a year for 5 years just for paying their bills, and not having to pay their second mortgages at all) should have a special symbol stuck on their houses, too.
As for the stickers on the bridges and so on, I think that is a good idea, as it will tell me which to avoid.
Mar 7, 2009 - 6:21 pm 57. weirdone:I started looking at this guy in April 2008 and discovered that he was a Marxist nut case. Here it is nearly a year later and over 60% of my fellow Americans(?) haven’t figured it out yet?
Mar 7, 2009 - 6:28 pm 58. Delia:54. 38952R,
Ohhhhh girrrrrrl or duuuuuuuude, you nailed it!
zomg! ← that acronym gone wrong cracks me up.
I’m wearing my tin-foil ‘▲’ and so far my tin foil has been on the moula. -Nothing to celebrate though…being right about the worst possible crappola is nothing to ring-a-ding-ding about. *sigh*
☼ May the sun come up and may our hearts not stop whilst we deal with one of the most embarrassing presidents of all time.
Mar 7, 2009 - 6:41 pm 59. Linguist:Someone needs to put that sticker on a short bus, fill it with Congress critters (preferred seating for the Democrats), and send them on a “3 hour tour” of Venezuela.
Somehow, I think they’d all be a lot happier down there.
Mar 7, 2009 - 7:09 pm 60. rr:I think Rush is more popular than the democrat plumbers think he is.
Mar 7, 2009 - 7:35 pm 61. WestGuard:Obama can’t win in a fight with Rush. Rush will get more ratings and more fodder for his great parodies. Obama will be deemed unpresidential. Of course, Obama will not be personally engaged but his operatives will. The task, then, is to publicly identify Obama as the force behind the attacks.
#54 38952R:
“During the campaign I said that any chiarasmatic black actor could do everything Obama was doing..”

I thought the same thing, Denzel Washington come to mind..

“Who can fix the Economy?
1. The Executive Branch
2. The Legislative Branch
3. Thousands of CEO’s
4. Millions of small business owners
5. Foreign investors
What, me worry?
~~~~~
Who can screw up the economy BIG TIME?”
You are right on five counts, all of them can help and all of them can fail. But that’s the system. Nothing else can help. Might as well help the ones that can help. But maybe not. They will try to survive by themselves, it’s a better choice: their survival, our survival. So, what, me worry?
Mar 7, 2009 - 10:05 pm 63. JackT:You poor lost Republicans, can’t get enough of Obama, isn’t he great? It’s just so fun to watch as you squirm and complain, yet have absolutely no solutions of your own. Just do me a huge favor and make sure you keep that fat ass Limbaugh out front as your leader, also make sure you keep attacking our President. We’re gonna need all of your ugliness and hatred to help us win the next election.
Mar 7, 2009 - 10:24 pm 64. Arthur Nankervis:JackT be nimble
JackT be quick …
And for the want of something better …
Stay away from Barney Frank’s uuhh, uuhh, candlestick
a.k.a. Little Porkulus Pecker
From your effort, one gets the notion that you, like Your-Man-With-The-Tan in Washington, spent too many nights in the limousine – You’ve scratched your brain.
Mar 8, 2009 - 3:52 am 65. Wiredog:A suggestion that I heard on a talk radio show out of Denver. While we are still citizens and before we become subjects, what if we could have our own symbol that shows our disgust and resistance to O’s policies. I suggest we all carry a plastic picnic fork in plain view, (so we can recognize like minded thinkers), in our shirt pocket. This non-threatening item would symbolize the angry crowds that if pushed too far will rise up and in the spirit of the Declaration of Independence take our country back.
Mar 8, 2009 - 6:39 am 66. Linguist:No, Jack, Obama is not “great”. And criticism is not attack, though the hypocritical Demon-cratic would prefer you see it that way. Our President is a sham; a snake-oil salesman and P.T Barnum rolled into one.
He has no legitimate management experience. He’s “overwhelmed” and “exhausted” and “surprised” at the amount of work he is expected to do. He is, at best, naive.
He won’t leave home without a teleprompter.
He chooses to pick fights with a radio talk show host instead of doing his job. And he encourages his staff to participate in such playground squabbles.
The solution is right in front of us, but the snow job was thick and therefore the fight will be long and arduous. We must return to a government that does the job it was intended to do: be there to defend its citizens and assure them their “inalienable right” to live, live freely, and PURSUE happiness. Get our government out of the business of guaranteeing happiness and let Americans be responsible for their own lives.
Mar 8, 2009 - 10:48 pm 68. AThinkingPerson:Obama will never meet with Rush in a debate, Obama can not have his teleprompter.
We don’t know who Obama is. With a teleprompter he is brillant, without a teleprompter he is a blithering idiot. We need to know who is in the teleprompter, the Wizard of ooze, maybe.
JackT…Either you’re off your meds or you don’t have any wealth to worry about President Teleprompter taking. Either way you’re a sad mess.
Mar 10, 2009 - 10:21 am 69. hp:and for gosh sakes, whatever else you do in making it, don’t forget the ever increasingly less subtle allusion to a halo!
