Obama’s Beltway Boys
It is simply bizarre that Obama can criticize his rivals for being too cozy with DC insider lobbyist types, yet have no problem with Jim Johnson helping him pick a running mate.
The media reaction can best be described as stunned. The press conference raised more questions than it answered (Who recommended Johnson? Was Obama unaware of his reputation as a Washington fixer? Did Obama not recognize the potential for claims of hypocrisy?). It also provided the McCain camp with an opening to jab at their opponent. In a statement the McCain camp shot back:
“It’s preposterous for Sen. Obama to claim that the leader of his VP selection committee isn’t working for him. Barack Obama has castigated Countrywide Financial, but now that Jim Johnson has been exposed for taking sweetheart deals from Countrywide’s CEO — Obama is in a state of denial. It’s that brand of weak leadership and hypocrisy that shows why Barack Obama has no record of taking courageous stands or making change in Washington.”
The kerfuffle could not have come at a worse time for Obama, as he set out on his economic tour in the first week of the general election. Moreover, concerns about his judgment in assessing those around him already were put back in the mix with the conviction last week of supporter and friend Tony Rezko on multiple criminal charges. The RNC lost no time in making the connection in a statement it released:
“Barack Obama’s assertion that he won’t vet his own senior aides is totally inconsistent with his rhetoric, but wholly consistent with his own record. This is how Obama ended up in a sweetheart real-estate deal with Tony Rezko, even after it was widely known that Rezko was under investigation. Obama’s naive attitude and hypocritical attacks is the sort of politics as usual that voters are sick of.”
At a time when Obama is attempting to convince the public that alleged miscreants like Countrywide are to blame for our nation’s economic ills, it seems only a matter of time before Johnson will have to be thrown under the proverbial bus to avoid the fast-moving “hypocrisy” storyline.
So the questions raised with regard to Holder, the man at the center of the Clinton’s Marc Rich pardon debacle, seem equally apt with respect to Johnson. What criteria does Obama use in selecting key personnel and what do his choices tell us about his ability to lead an effective and scandal-free administration?
Judging from what we have seen, it is increasingly hard to think an Obama administration will represent a change for the better in the way Washington does business.
Editor’s Note
After the Obama campaign defended Jim Johnson’s ties to Countrywide over the last 24 hours, Johnson tendered his resignation from the steering committee effective immediately.
Johnson said in a statement:
“I believe Barack Obama’s candidacy for president of the United States is the most exciting and important of my lifetime,” he said, according to a Bloomberg report. “I would not dream of being a party to distracting attention from that historic effort.”
No word yet on a replacement for Johnson who was heading up Obama’s Vice Presdential selection steering committe.

1. David Thomson:The sad fact of life is that John McCain’s campaign must relentlessly point out Barack “Barry” Obama’s inconsistencies. The MSM will do everything to look the other way. Also, perhaps a solid forty percent of the electorate could care less about the faults of their Anointed One. We can only hope that minimally these seemingly never ending new revelations disturb a slight majority. It is increasingly becoming more obvious that Obama is a mediocre leader. His skills are limited to the ability to give a rousing speech. He obviously has no idea what to do after that.
I am not at all thrilled that the voters are forced to choose between two U.S. senators. This is not a good thing. We normally prefer governors because they must actually do something in office. Senators, for the most part, just shoot their mouths off. But that’s water over the bridge. The American people are forced to pick the lesser of evils. In this case, it is Senator McCain. If nothing else, he has the far better resume.

Yet, I do not find Obama’s action here “simply bizarre,” rather simply Democratic – please note big “D.” This is the stock-and-trade of the contemporary “do as I say and not as I do” leftist hypocrite Party.
As well articulated here as well (http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/06/obama_and_his_next_goal.html), Americans would be well to inform themselves – not the least from the active efforts of the McCain team in the upcoming months – of the disqualifying aspects of Obama’s dismal record.
Jun 11, 2008 - 3:44 am 5. David Thomson:“If he has a teleprompter. Otherwise, no.”
Yup, I stand corrected. “Barry” Obama does indeed require a teleprompter. He truly is that shallow.
Jun 11, 2008 - 4:03 am 6. Suzanne Pomeranz:Mr. Wallis – you are right, except for this – it should be “simply Democrat” as that’s the actual name of the party which is certainly NOT democratic.
As far as “disqualifying aspects of Obama…”, has anyone actually looked into his PLACE OF BIRTH??? I understand that he refuses to post a birth certificate on his web site nor discuss it. Could it be that he was born, NOT in Hawaii but in Kenya, making him a “naturalized” American (if at all) and thus, NOT qualified for this job????? Just a thought.
Could someone at PJM please get on that at once?????

Dangerous because of Obama’s ties to Abongo Obama, his half brother and Raila Odinga, his cousin, who are stirring up mass violence in Kenya having lost the election last year, an election in which Odinga wanted to institute Muslim Sharia Law. Jun 11, 2008 - 7:13 am 13. AJ:“The MSM will do everything to look the other way.”
Precisely. That’s why we need blogs. Obama’s campaign, aside from being shallow and naive, is totally hypocritical and has been from day one. I don’t know a single person whose views and intelligent I respect that is voting for the Empty Suit.
Politicalreacharound, why is this a NON story? Do you know how many “non” stories the losers at MSNBC drool over each day? But the best point was made by “Big City Boy” who is, like many of us, an ex-Democrat, who shot you down with this comment:

Jun 11, 2008 - 9:10 am 18. Dave II:Politicalreacher-
Well, since you (and Suzanne) brought it up…yes, let’s go there for a moment! John McCain WAS born in Panama, and the whole legal issue of a “natural born citizen” is still a bit murky, but McCain WAS born to TWO U.S. Citizens on military assignment, and declared a “natural-born citizen” by a special Senate Resolution on April 30, 2008, voted in favor by both Clinton and Obama. Case closed.
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/05/citizen_mccain.html
Not so for Obama! His father was NOT a citizen, and his mother was only 18. It’s true, Hawaii was a state at the time (1961), but the law at the time was that BOTH parents had to be citizens!
Barack Obama is not legally a U.S. Natural-born citizen according to the law on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between “December 24, 1952 to November 13, 1986? . Presidential office requires a natural-born citizen if the child was not born to two U.S. Citizen parents, which of course is what exempts John McCain though he was born in the Panama Canal. US Law very clearly stipulates: “…If only one parent was a U.S. Citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16.” Barack Obama’s father was not a U.S. Citizen and Obama’s mother was only 18 when Obama was born, which means though she had been a U.S. Citizen for 10 years, (or citizen perhaps because of Hawai’i being a territory) the mother fails the test for being so for at least 5 years **prior to** Barack Obama’s birth, but *after* age 16. It doesn’t matter *after* . In essence, she was not old enough to qualify her son for automatic U.S. Citizenship. At most, there were only 2 years elapsed since his mother turned 16 at the time of Barack Obama’s birth when she was 18 in Hawai’i. His mother would have needed to have been 16+5= 21 years old, at the time of Barack Obama’s birth for him to have been a natural-born citizen. As aformentioned, she was a young college student at the time and was not. Barack Obama was already 3 years old at that time his mother would have needed to have waited to have him as the only U.S. Cizen parent. Obama instead should have been naturalized, but even then, that would still disqualify him from holding the office.
*** Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President. *** Though Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, all the other info does not matter because his mother is the one who needed to have been a U.S. Citzen for 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after age 16. Further, Obama may have had to have remained in the country for some time to protect any citizenship he would have had, rather than living in Indonesia. Now you can see why Obama’s aides stopped his speech about how we technically have more than 50 states, because it would have led to this discovery. This is very clear cut and a blaring violation of U.S. Election law.

http://minx.cc/?post=266330
Of course, Obama could stop all these “scurrilious rumors” by just releasing his birth certificate…but he hasn’t (and probably won’t)! So the question is:
WHAT IS HE HIDING?????????????????
This is not the last of this issue…BY FAR!

“STORY: Obama an American citizen? fake/BS? To be determined”
Obama was born in 1961, Hawaii became a state in August,1959. He is a native born American. Citizenship is not an issue.
Jun 11, 2008 - 9:26 am 20. Dave II:Of course…his “missing” birth certificate is only the tip of the iceberg:
http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/06/11/memo-to-obama-missing-documents/#more-3040
And…interesting assertion there in the comments section of the “natural-born” issue link, is in particular about that “passport-gate” break in that so quickly disappeared from view. What’s up here???
“It came fully to their attention during Passportgate. Please make a huge note of this – that’s where the kernel lies, to be sprouted.
To preempt this, the Obama team, via the guy in charge of the contractors involved in Passportgate, went into the records at the State Department. The boss, the guy in charge, is also an adviser to Obama. They wanted to retrieve the records so as to never have to risk them seeing the light.
However, the three who did the dirty work were caught. The chief had no idea that the department had a backup and cross-check system in place, which caught them.
If you recall, two were fired immediately, and the third, who’s cooperating with the investigation, was retained by the State Dapartment until the investigation is over.
If you also recall, when Passportgate first broke, Obama yelled the ‘loudest’ on how careless the Bush Admin. is with the records. Please recall that by breaking into the dossiers they wanted to retrieve Obamas, but got a hold also of Hillary’s and Mr. Cheney’s, I believe (I’m sure about Obama and Hillary, but there was a 3rd one, and I think it was Mr. Cheney’s).
Anyway, it was a cover on the part of Obama to yell so loud, because the break-in was done by his side. Immediately as they were trapped, Condoleezza Rice put the kabash on it, the lid on it, and after that complete SILENCE.
Then there was the faux McCain citizenship rah, rah, and recall the no other than Obama expressed support for it first, and then co-authored the totally unnecessary bill in the Senate to “make McCain” legitimate. This was all huwey.
What the media, and us, need to vigorously pursue is the results of Passportgate, number one, not only getting a copy of the birth certificate, but what the findings are of the break in.”
Jun 11, 2008 - 9:55 am 21. Dave II:John-
The law between 1952 andn 1986 was different than it is today. He WOULD be a citizen under TODAY’s laws, no question. If this is a “non-issue”, why doesn’t Obama just release his birth certificate?
Does it mention his name as “Barry Dunham”?
Does it mention his “religion” as Muslim???
Does it even state his father’s name???
Or….worst of all, was he actually born in KENYA, as some assert????
So many questions…so few answers! (Actually NONE!)

Jun 11, 2008 - 12:30 pm 27. John:“But most certainly not the stink test.”
Certainly there is enough stink to go around here. There is enough ammunition out there on Obama to do him in if rational, thinking, persons are astute enough to read the handwriting on the wall for themselves and decide on their own best candidate of choice. My fear is that there is enough race bait, and white guilt, and general dissatisfaction with the current administration to carry a totally unqualified man into the Oval Office in November.
Personally, (and this is just my opinion), I think G.W. has done a reasonable job of keeping the ship-of-state afloat during a really bad period. Lord only knows how a Clinton or a Kerry would have handled an event such as 9-11-01. They’d have prolly responded with a few cruise missiles launched at another aspirin factory and called it a win. Are we really ready for another anti-war administration? Don’t they “get it”? The Islamonuts are trying to kill us~!
Jim Johnson has stepped down from the veep selection squad only because Obama is now aware of how badly the public views the elite Washington insiders, along with the other east coast snobs. He’ll just find someone a little less objectionable to fill the slot.
Jun 11, 2008 - 12:50 pm 28. Dave II:John- a “USC” parent? Would that make the father a “Trojan”??? (insert condom joke here)
Seriously, though, I doubt it would survive a court case either. My suspicion is there are OTHER reasons Obama doesn’t want to release his birth certificate (or his passport records)…. He WILL have to answer these questions eventually.

Jun 11, 2008 - 5:35 pm 35. Jenny:What is bizarre is that anyone is worried about this stuff. So Johnson had a mortgage with countrywide and now he has left the VP vetting thing? Next …
Sure we want our president to be squeaky clean, but you can get silly about what that means. A guy doing the research on who would make the best running mate and VP shouldn’t have a conflict of interest, but who he has a standard mortgage with — particualrly when it was one of the big companies is irrelevant. That you republicans are getting yourself into a lather over this simply shows how poor your political position is.
The fact is that the country is heading for a serious recession, has no means of disentangling itself from a war that is costing $USD10 billion and 50-60 US dead per month and encouraging most of the planet to hate us. We are going massively into debt. We are helpless against oil price shock inflation and unemployment is rising. And you republicans are talking about whether Hawaii was part of the US when Obama was born or who is vetting his VP?
You may not get onto the wrong end of a landslide, but you sure deserve to. You lot need a serious period away from the beltway to get back into touch with reality.
Obama 2008!!
Jun 11, 2008 - 6:27 pm 36. always right:What is bizarre is that anyone is worried about this stuff.
Go beyond the halo effect. Use your own brains and eyes a bit, wil ya?
How are we ‘helpless’? Tough actions need to be taken, but this gutless ‘do nothing’ congress will only squabble the trivial stuff. Each individual needs to take up his own responsibility, but they were taught it was not their fault but to rely on the ‘government’.
And newsflash for you, it was not as if the world LOVE us before 2000. I know because I travelled a bit.
Jun 12, 2008 - 8:50 am 37. Believer:Well, you ain’t seen debt like the debt Obama will put us into if he’s elected.
His Global Poverty Act? Billions will be given out of our treasury – annually and without end – to an international body that will, I’m sure, be certain they get to those in need. Not to mention our very sovereignty might be at issue. Thankfully, this was killed in committee.
His pulling our troops out of Iraq prematurely will only require far greater costs to us soon after. Not just monetary – but the lives of soldiers and civilians as well.
I believe I heard the number of almost a trillion dollars associated with the ideas/promises he’s made on the campaign trail alone.
This man has accomplished nothing more than make frighteningly poor judgments regarding friends and associates. This panel of advisors is but one example. These are bad enough, but we know of far worse.
I just heard something that reiterated what I’d read early last year – Obama took a trip to Libya with Farrakhan. And it must have been on another thread that I linked to Gateway Pundit where someone said Qaddafi had given a billion dollars to Farrakhan for “votes,” etc. I’d like to know if these things are true.
Obama is a man completely unqualified to be President. But, incredibly, he thinks he is. Check out how he’s jumped from one political office to the next higher – almost as soon as he assumes one, he’s off to the next. His accomplishments are nil.
He cozied up to Ill. state senate leader Emil Jones and got him to put his name on bills that others had been working years on – making more than a few enemies along the way. The man is not shy when it comes to his ambition. He walked into Jones’ office and told him he could make himself a U.S. Senator. Jones asked, “Who you got in mind?” “Me,” was Obama’s reply.
I just read on a black man’s blog that he’d run into O. at a restaurant, and was told by him that he was going to go after the U.S. Senate seat after failing in his attempt at the U.S. Rep. seat. It floored the man. But he mentioned remembering Obama many years earlier had told him he wanted to run for Mayor. His point was that, at the time of the writing, it didn’t surprise him Obama would have the nerve to run for President so soon.
What he didn’t say was that he is breathtakingly unqualified.
