Reverend Eric Lee’s Anti-Semitism: A Personal Story [video]

On April 4, 2008, at a Los Angeles event commemorating the assassination of Martin Luther King, the African-American fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi gave Israeli-American Daphna Ziman its Tom Bradley Award for community service. Then the event's keynote speaker, Reverend Eric Lee, turned to Ms. Ziman and launched an anti-Semitic diatribe. Roger L. Simon interviewed Ms. Ziman.

UPDATE:  Reconciliation video between Ziman and Lee here.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Los Angeles, April 12, 2008–

A Los Angeles event held by Kappa Alpha Psi—the national African-American fraternity—on April 4, the fortieth anniversary of Martin Luther King’s assassination, was reportedly marred by a disturbing incident of anti-Semitism by its keynote speaker – Reverend Eric Lee.

With Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, City Councilman Bernard Parks, State Senator Mark Ridley Thomas and Assemblyman Mike Davis in attendance (and also winning awards in some instances) at the Marriott Hotel conference, the fraternity had just given its Tom Bradley Award—named for the esteemed former Los Angeles mayor—to Israeli-American Daphna Ziman.

Ziman is the founder and volunteer chairwoman of Children Uniting Nations—an organization devoted to the rights of children. CUN has helped children from Kosovo to the American inner cities, focusing especially on mentoring programs for children from Los Angeles broken homes. Ziman has also been a fundraiser and donor to the Hillary Clinton campaign.

After Ziman received her award, Reverend Lee, who is the President/CEO of the Los Angeles branch of Dr. King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference, began his keynote speech. In the midst of this, after praising Malcolm X, he started staring directly at Ziman, according to an email she sent.

Ziman’s email states “[Lee] started talking about the African American children who are suffering because of the Jews that have featured them as rapists and murderers. He spoke of a Jewish Rabbi, and then corrected himself to say ‘What other kind of Rabbis are there, but Jews.’ He told how this Rabbi came to him to say that he would like to bring the AA [African-American] community and the Jewish community together. ‘NO, NO, NO!!!!’ he shouted into the crowd, ‘we are not going to come together. The Jews have made money on us in the music business and we are the entertainers, and they are economically enslaving us.’”

(An attempt to revive the “Black-Jewish Connection” is currently underway in Los Angeles, according to the L. A. Watts Times.)

Lee continued with his anti-Semitic diatribe, according to Ziman, at which time she could no longer tolerate it and left the room, where she broke into tears.

Most of the dignitaries had also left the room by the time of Lee’s speech but Assemblyman Mike Davis was still there. He told Ziman that he “did not hear” Lee’s words because he was engaged in another conversation. Mr. Davis did not return a call from Pajamas Media, seeking comment. Calls to organizers of the event were also not returned.

An African-American attorney who works in the area of foster care and was in the audience did speak with Pajamas Media. The attorney, who preferred not to be quoted by name, basically corroborated Ziman’s account, saying that Lee’s remarks were in essence racist and inappropriate to the occasion, even more so since Ziman was receiving an award from the fraternity.

Daphna Ziman has asked for Reverend Lee to make a public apology to the Jewish community.

[UPDATE: Reverend Lee's response is here.]

During the war in Bosnia, I received an award from the South Bay Islamic Council for “never again” op-ed columns I’d written in defense of Bosnia’s Muslims as a San Jose Mercury News columnist. The columns made it clear that I’m Jewish. It was a huge dinner with people from all over the world as well as American-born Muslims. The keynote speaker, an American Protestant convert to Islam, gave a long anti-Semitic, anti-Zionist speech. I will say that when the dinner was over, a number of people rushed up to me to apologize.

This incident most assuredly represents the tip of the iceberg. Jewish members of the Democratic Party, however, regretfully believe that bribing race hustling extortionists like “Barack” Obama will somehow protect them. The crazies, needless to add, soon learn that that they will not pay a severe price for their misbehavior. Isn’t Obama still receiving a lot of money from guilt tripped Jews—even after they learned about his long term relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright?

For what it’s worth, Daphna Ziman is a major Hillary Clinton supporter and fund-raiser. That doesn’t in any way change the disgustingness of what Lee supposedly said, but might shed some light on why she is so insistent on dragging Obama into something with which he has absolutely no connection.

Well sis, I’m with you but for the last 8 years antisemitism has become increasingly legitimized among educated blacks and educated whites in America and more generally in Europe..

I’m an educated white myself with Jewish friends and acquaintances Portland, Ore and frankly I no longer point it out to them because they don’t believe it, refuse to see it, and I glimpse despisal in their eyes for remarking it.

I really don’t know how it’s all going to end, but I fear it. It’s the irrational being mainstreamed. Among the educated!

Every time a Christian speaks as this man did to this Jewish woman, he crucifies Christ anew. After Mr. Lee (I refused to call him Reverend) is finished spewing Jew-hatred, when he goes to prepare for Sunday’s sermon, which book will he use? The Holy Bible or the Koran? If it is the Bible, then he stands condemned by its words; therefore, he must repent and seek forgiveness from Ms Ziman, whether or not she supports Hillary. If he does not repent and if his book is the Koran, let him come down off the altar and stop making a liar of himself. The mouth that preaches hatred cannot also preach Christ and the love of God which is in Him.

One thing Obama’s run is doing is bringing to light the fact that this sort of thinking is very widespread in the black community. And instead of bringing the races together, it is going to turn whites against blacks all over again. Mistrust will replace tolerance again.

I hate to say it, but as an otherwise tolerant white dude, I’m growing awful tired of this nonsense already.

Apr 9, 2008 - 7:52 pm 13. Jammer:

This is amazing.

The 2008 election was supposed to be a referendum on Iraq and the GOP, and a landslide for the Democrats.

Instead, it has become a referendum on black people and their mentality of militant victimhood. This mentality has clearly jumped the shark in an America where Asians are wealthier than whites, where Hispanics outnumber blacks, and where black immigrants from Africa, the Caribbean, etc. come here voluntarily and do well.

As a result, the chance of a Democrat winning is now under 50%.

Truly, truly amazing.

Apr 9, 2008 - 7:52 pm 14. willem:

Obama has everything to do with this as an Alinsky community agitator and a supporter of “revolutionary theology” in the black church. His success in his Chicago adult life is intertwined in a codependency with revolutionary theology and the national network of theologians like Lee and Wright and the meme of victimhood and non-assimilation practiced in concert with the likes of Farrakhan. Obama has lined his pockets and paid his rent with this racist meme. He has ridden to the national political stage on the back of this meme with the predators who preach it. This is how socialists think, whether international socialists or national socialists, this is how they think. Who do you think funded the development and spread of revolutionary theology during the cold war? It has everything to do with professional agitators like Saul Alinsky and the men behind the veil who provided the money for their every move during the cold war. This is not a Hillary vs Obama thing. Hillary and Obama are two peas in the same pod. Her affiliations with Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton are little different and no less disgusting. Ziman is merely waking up to what has been going on for decades.

Apr 9, 2008 - 8:05 pm 15. DaMav:

Jewish people who support Obama are like poultry supporting Colonel Sanders. That has nothing at all to do with his race.

Obama had the opportunity to take a strong stand against the burgeoning anti-Semitism on the left by casting out Wright. He had a chance to bridge the divide and say “This is absolutely unacceptable and I want no part of it. I’m sorry I didn’t speak out for 20 years, but I’m going to do so now.”

Instead he became an apologist for racial hatred, anti-Jewish extremism, and anti-American ism, even saying it reflected the black community. What an insult to patriotic black people who do not buy into the hate!

But look at the support he got. The media and its liberal personalities annointed him a saviour for an act of cowardice and duplicity. So I can’t just blame Obama. His speech was compared to King and Lincoln. What a pile of steaming manure. People had better wake up to what Obama will do to this country — provide cover for the worst haters of our society.

@CC
I’m not so sure Obama has no connection to this. Did he not excuse and tolerate basically the same message from Wright? Is that not encouraging the hate? Eric Lee is a prominent Obama endorser and supporter in the Los Angeles area. Unless Obama shows considerably more sense and courage than he did with Wright in separating himself from this rabid anti-Jewish sentiment, it’s hard to say there is no connection to what he is providing cover for.

There are a lot of deeply ignorant black people in this country. And many of them somehow acquired “degrees” in theology. It’s time to stop making excuses for these creeps. It’s time to hold blacks to the same standards as everybody else.

Either that, or sit tight and wait for a the tide of Mexican- and Chinese- Americans to brush black Americans aside.

Apr 9, 2008 - 8:58 pm 21. Morton Doodslag:

The revelations coming out about the “black church” in America are staggering. Some of the last vestiges of my former liberalism are melting away daily.

I have always attached the label of “marginal” for the all of the black huckster race baiters and victim pimps like Sharpton and Jackson and Cornel West, but the all-out fascist hatred and racism seems to be much more widespread among blacks than I ever would have dreamt.

It is a hideous travesty that at the moment in America’s history when we have done the most to address our legacy of historical racism, that blacks have imbibed so deeply of bitter hatred that to hear them tell the tale, it has never been worse. Daily we hear and read endless lectures with phrases like “America needs to face her racist past” or “we must begin to have a discussion about white racism in America.”

What f#%}^*~#} planet have these blacks been living on for the last 50 years. Are they completely insane.

Race relations have been set back decades by the calumnies, distortions, slanders, and hatred many blacks have been spewing. For too long the protections offered them by political correctness run amok have allowed and encouraged them to revel in an orgy of self absorbed delusional corruption. At the same time we’re learning about the complete corruptin of so-called Middle Eastern studies in America, we are also learning about the malignancies which have been growing in the dark corners of black churches and, I have no doubt, black academia. Someone from PJM should look into the curricula of “black” institutions like Howard University. I’m beginning to regret donating on occasion to UNCF. I surmise we’d learn some fairly vile things various other stones were upturned in that community.

One other thing… These sordid revelations should prompt the destruction of the multicultural Marxist experiment. It has been an utter calamity for America.

In defense of the American blacks. Those I know in person don’t fall into this militant “we’re always victims” crap. Then again, those I know personally… went to school, university, they work hard, they’re 100% accepted by their white, yellow, green-with-purple-polka-dots co-workers etc. While those who usually scream loudest are… bums who don’t even speak proper English. I think I see a pattern.

Martin Luther King was a great man. But those today, who are milking his achievements for their own advantage (hello Jesse Jackson), they are traitors to the cause, they are cowards and they’re simply dumb.

I’m with Tim. First, I had to witness OJ Simpson be acquitted of murder and black people dancing in the streets, rejoicing that they had finally stuck it to “the man”. That little episode set race relations back 20 years. Then Jeramiah Wright, Michelle Obama’s comments, and now this bigoted cretin?

Just another sad, pitiful example that no good deed goes unpunished. A lot of these so called preachers are going to be awfully surprised one day when they fall asleep, smug and self-assured in their hate and find themselves waking up in hell instead of heaven.

Apr 9, 2008 - 10:48 pm 27. Jim Rockford:

Most Black preachers and Reverends are like Lee and Wright. Hold the same views, and express the same opinions. You’ll notice that both Black Leaders and Obama held these views to be mainstream among Blacks. Obama sat around listening to the same stuff for twenty years. No problems.

Anti-semitism is common among Blacks. It’s sadly endemic. Spike Lee is a good example.

This ought to surprise no one.

Blacks fear integration, particularly intermarriage and cultural and racial absorption. It’s understandable. But it drives a lot of ugly stuff, particularly the common anti-Semitism. Black leaders stoke this so their flock aka easy living (Check out Wright’s mansion of $2 million plus in the Chicago suburbs) does not move out to the suburbs and marry some nice person of another race.

Where would Lee be if most of his flock did that? I mean, he’d have to work for a living!

I wonder when, if ever, we are going to see each other as human beings first, made in the image of a God who loves us and treasures us–and wants us to treasure each other. Or are we going to continue to hold up our list of wrongs, big and small, real and perceived, which we have all done to each other–never forgiving and never healing, but holding hatred in our hearts like a torch that gets passed from one to another and never dies. Lee and Wright are foolish men, filled with anger–not with the love of God. May God forgive them and turn their hearts around.

Well, I’m really glad that Obama is helping us to have this discussion on race – I think it has been a earning experience for all. Non-blacks are learning just how mainstream white-hatred, Jew-hatred and America-hatred is within the black community – I doubt that Obama is a bigot himself, but the fact that he is politically required to condone that crap is very telling in and of itself. I suspect that soon blacks will be learning how little time whites and others have for the perpetual victimhood crap, especially when it is used to excuse Wright-style bigotry.

I am shocked and appalled, and angry. That man looked right at her, into her eyes, and in a room full of people. The fact that people left the room is nice and all but not one person stopped him? Nobody stood up to challenge him? Perhaps that is one reason, if not the main reason why these so-called reverends keep spouting their hate.

I may be wrong, but it seems to me that these public displays of racism and hate by radical reverends have dramatically increased since Obama showed up. Whatever the cause, this kind of activity must be stopped by any means necessary. Let us not forget what happened the last time rampant antisemitism gained a foothold, and a following.

Watching the video was painful and I cannot even imagine how it would feel to be treated in such a manner. How does a society stop this kind of ignorant hate-mongering? People who would normally stand up and confront these reverends are not likely to be anywhere near him. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together wouldn’t be found anywhere near that man. Public figures like Obama should take responsibility for eliminating this stuff in their communities but they frequently subscribe to the ideology and its various forms. It’s always somebody else’s fault; the Jews, white people, the man, the government, and on and on.

The only positive to be seen so far is the fact that certain people are showing their true colors for all to see. We can no longer ignore the problem now that it’s so visible and apparently widespread. The future must hold no place for radicals – be they reverends, imams, environmentalists, or any other variety.

That may be a secondary question. Perhaps more importantly—is he manipulating the rage and sense of entitlement of bigots for political gain? Race hustlers prefer the status quo. Is Obama perhaps taking full advantage of this sad state of affairs? In the back of his mind, is he really interested in eliminating racial friction? Can Obama even survive politically if America truly evolves into a post-racial country?

Louis Farrakhan, rejection of his white ancestors, glorification of his deadbeat black father. his work as a race grievance neighborhood organizer, and marriage to an angry racist woman (she has an inability to mask her rage). He has the ability because of his personality to mask all of this.

But I believe that there is a much more sinister aspect to this sentiment. Black activists in the universities, in the prisons (when the come out) and in the local political and religious circles are not only very hot headed but operate out of a playbook supported, financed and encouraged by domestic and outside money, mainly from oil countries that funnel financial support through various entities, just to keep these characters keeping the action going. many of these blackmailing hustlers graduated from intimidating local entities to the corporations. Their conduct is just as nauseating. not only they pick checks for not making trouble but additional fees from television appearances, explaining their positions, all have a price tag and no one needs to go far to know where there is extra money right now.

1)Jeremiah Wright and any of these other so-called “Christian” preachers, who screech the ideologies of Farrakhan, lionize him and his movement, (the Marxist inspired Black Liberation “theology” as well)…are simply utilizing the pulpit for the divisive theo-politics that combine racial warfare with class warfare in order to create a particularly incendiary cocktail of hate and blame. This is the Nation of Islam secreted behind a “Christian” veil.

2)The theo-political arena is less concerned about saving a soul, than it is about condemning one to eternal damnation. It is less about righteousness, than it is about “wrongteousness”. It is not about finding the Light, it is about cursing the darkness.

3)It defines the “us” not by individual acts, thoughts and deeds, but by ascribing acts, thoughts and deeds to “them”. There is no identity, except via “them”. It’s “Viral Themology”.

“We” are poor, BECAUSE “they” are rich. We are down because “they” are up. We are “weak” because they strong. We are “slaves” because they own the plantations.

4)In Viral Themology, it does not matter one whit what the “them” actually does or says. It’s nearly irrelevant. Quite often it takes on mythical, fantasy, comic book or fairy tale proportions.

White skin alone accords one a pre-masticated, pre-digested “history”. There is not one shred of evidence that Jews, Greeks or Italians who came to this country, for instance…owned slaves, advanced in any relevant manner the slave trade from Africa, but they are “them” because they are “white”…and some of them have “garlic noses”.

Theological Viral Themology, is the foundation for radical Islamic hatred and for the need to make Jesus a “Palestinian” for the Rev. Wrights…who are preaching Nation of Islam fundamentals via the dance of the seven veils, for which Christianity is a foil, not a focus.

5)The Viral Themologists attach to the Marxists because Marxism is the politica/economic system of wealth redistibution. It’s the Viral Themologists “do-over”. Because they have no identity outside of “them”…it takes AWAY from “them”…and redistributes “evenly”…. that which has not been earned or achieved.

6)Leftists won’t denounce Viral Themology, because it’s the underpinnings of all their beliefs. This makes for odd bedfellows. Blacks use “white guilt” over the blot of slavery on our national history…and then attach it to anyone and everyone whether or not there is any logical nexus.

“Jewish guilt” is a punchline to a quip. It’s so deeply ingrained, that it can be triggered by any real or imagined slight. Jews are infinitely capable of compassion, empathy, nurturing, and forgiving. But they are damn near universally suckers for being guilt-tripped because of their capacity for identifying with the underdog. They begin with an overarching need to help the “us” overcome the “them”.

It answers the question as to why, after having their faces slapped repeatedly by the left in general and by black Viral Themologists…they stay riveted to an ideology that hates them, blames them, accosts them, …and in the case of Jimmy Carter, Rev. Wright, Pastor Pfleger, Robert Malley, Samantha Power, Brzezinski, Walt, Rev. Meeks, Farrakhan, …etc., wouldn’t mind seeing them gone from the landscape and certainly sre no fans of Israel’s continuing existence.

Obama’s Daddy, his mentor Rev. Wright, his mentor “Frank”, his friends Ayers and Dorhn, Pastor Pfleger, his radical professors, his wife, his advisors, his staff …his entire inner circle…are Viral Themologists.

And that’s the elephant, that’s sitting in the living room, that nobody wants to talk about.

Jewish radicals such as Gloria Stieman, Sontag and others played their fair share of anti Americanism in the sixties. David Horowitz, once a Khazar red diaper baby was also part of that movement. Now he is faced with the daunting task at today’s University campuses of trying to bottle the genie he helped release.

We as the voting public need to get our act together and start holding htese politicians accountantable. We need to stop allowing certain people to say, certain things, just because they are in the same demographic or party as we are.

At the risk of sounding paranoid, I will say that the perception that “the Jews are our misfortune/our problem” is almost universal.
Before the founding of the State off Israel, there were signs up in Europe saying, “Jews go to Palestine.” Now that the Jews are in Israel, the common demand is for the Jews to leave. There is no where the Jews can go where we are truly welcome to be: even in Israel and in the U.N. we are surrounded by those who despise us.

If Reverend Lee were white and spoke in similar tones about blacks, there would be a universal outcry.

But not when the targets are Jews.

What this really comes down to is putting your own on a pedastal. Jews are always crying about anti-semitism, blacks about racism, women about mysoginism, etc. What no one wants to admit is: Africans sold their own into slavery, for profit. Jews have, at one time or another, taken advantage of every given group on the planet, including their own, for financial gain. Basic feminist theory basically states that women should be paid “the same” (read: more) for doing less, because they’re women. Whites have been the 20th century’s whipping boy, so we all know their faults. Point is, ALL groups have done enough wrong in the past that claims of victimhood are increasingly irrelevant. Particularly when put forth with hate and percieved rightousness. Further, there is a human fault that keeps us needlessly defending “our own”, no matter the leagues of difference between the people perpetrating and those who defend them. Look deep enough, and every race, group, religion, country, whatever, has done evil. Enough so that blind, passionate defense of them is just silly. As far as this “speech” goes…how can it shock so much to hear a CHRISTIAN have a problem with a JEW? They’re basically calling each other liars by their very beliefs. So until we as a nation can move into the future, away from the flawed beliefs of the past, there will be these incidents. If your chosen religion matters so much that you COMPLETELY identify yourself with it, you will find severe trouble with those of opposite beliefs. See our troubles with Radical Islam.

I read so many messages above about how atendees at these dinners apologized to Jews after a dinner speaker at a black or Moslem dinner makes an anti-Jewish speech. Well, the reason the speaker feels he or she can do that is the simple fact that bloacks and Moslems are two anti-Semitic communities. Democ-rats of Jewish origin have to face the fact that they are voting together with the most anti-Semitic element in American society today! It’s no accident that when the white Southerners were anti-Semitic also they were voting for Franklin Roosevelt and now that distinction goes to the balcks. (White Southerners, now pro-Israel and anything but anti-Semitic by and large vote for Republicans!) When I hear a black leader blame “white society” for what he says is the fact that blacks are imprisoned at a rate so much higher that other groups I surmise that HE is saying that, in effect the blacks are the scum of American society and they prove that every day in every way. You have to take “affirmative action” to become part of the American criminal justice system, and boy have the blacks taken it!

Not to in anyway defend or excuse the comments of the good reverend(s), but there’s no denying that some of our policies (war on drugs) have created an environment in which the african-american community views the powers that be as the enemy. I believe that a black man born today faces a 1 in 3 chance of landing himself behind bars. While blacks use and sell drugs at similar rates to the general population, including whites, they represent almost 40% of those arrested for drug violations – despite representing only 13% of the population. The stats get even more disparate if you factor in conviction rates and length of sentences. And, of course, the suburban white communities where prisons tend to be located are granted all the additional funding and electoral representation that comes with having more people (black prisoners) in their jurisdiction. Conspiracy theory – maybe. Fact – absolutely. I’d be pissed to and would naturally and predictably gravitate toward a culture of hate and victimhood. Afterall, if you’re being punished disproportionately to the benefit of the dominant power structure, I’d say you qualify as a victim. I can’t speak about Dr Lee looking directly at her… I sat in the back of the room so I listened to the speach (was to far to see anyone eyes and the direction they are looking in)

I heard no remarks that put down the Jewish community… I heard factual statements made that were not racist or derogitory. The statements refered to the people who control the media and entertainment industries and how negative stories whether true or fiction are always displayed regarding African Americans… Rarely are their positive stories shown or created about people of color.

Its amazing how just from watching this clip from Ms Ziman and reading the responses… who is really racist here???

Before you speak negatively about another person or group of people, walk in their shoes. If you have not walked where they have walked and seen what they have seen your opinion is ignorant and worthless.

It’s interesting that Sen. Obama was never mentioned in Roger Simon’s post. He had nothing to do with the event or the people involved. So, why does his name come up in the comments?

Obviously, his much-praised speech that was supposed to distance him from his own minister’s racist rant has proven to be totally ineffective. In fact, I fully expect that similar otherwise unrelated incidents will continue to haunt him through the campaign, and if elected, into the White House. After all, we really don’t know much more about this guy.

Such is the result of nominating someone without any serious credentials or a history of achievements to fill the highest office in the nation. Instead of being defined by their personal record of accomplishment, such people are defined by daily events beyond their control. Consequently, the prospects for Sen. Obama providing any real leadership for our nation appear to be as empty as his self-written “wonder-speech.”

Apr 10, 2008 - 8:10 pm 103. Morton Doodslag:

I have no way of telling whether the apology is sincere or not. I don’t wish to pile on, but I recently read about some passages from Obama’s biography “The Audacity of Hope” which I’m excerpting below from American Thinker on March 18, 2008:

On p. 94-95 [of Obama's "biography", "The Audacity of Hope", he describes an effective tactic to deal with White people:

It was usually an effective tactic, another one of those tricks I had learned: People were satisfied so long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves. They were more than satisfied; they were relieved - such a pleasant surprise to find a well-mannered young black man who didn't seem angry all the time.

Hmmm. This forces one to think twice about potential practitioners of this particular art form. I've also read many Jewish blogs pondering whether Obama will be friend or foe to Jews and especially to Israel -- here's a disquieting article featured at Drudge about Obama's rhetoric on Israel (no sudden moves!), and his extremely close associations with notorious Islam apologists such as Edward Said, or terror confused "academics" such as Rashid Khalid who once quipped: "Our people [Palestinians] can’t distinguish between resistance and terrorism. We’re fighting for the liberation of our land from an occupation.”

I cringe when I read Jewish posts or articles explaining all of this away like so much unimportant dross. There seems to be a much more thorough, cohesive, and sinister narrative being shared privately among blacks, and sometimes exposed, perhaps inadvertently, publicly as in the case of Lee above.

We’re always encouraged by terror apologists, America bashers, anti-semites, etc. to take note of “context” and “nuance”.

To my way of thinking, the “nuance” of ever more shocking revelations about the tone and content of vitriol among blacks, and the context of apologies by the likes of Lee above, or Obama’s assurances to Americans that he’s not anti-American, or to Jews that he’s not an enemy of Israel begin to ring slightly hollow. But that’s just me.

I was just reading a blog site posted on Brigitte Gabriel’s American Congress for Truth about political Islam and I have to say it is the most astounding revelation of truth to me about the nature of Islam. See http://www.politicalislam.com/blog/category/articles-2/. Islam was the key enslaver of blacks (and Europeans). Like an abused wife, the blacks are blaming whites (who actually in the spirit of Christ broke the back of slavery). Their disenfranchised spirit identifies with supremacy of Islam. Yet, in shame, they cannot admit Islam is their slave master. It is the world’s slavemaster and historians have always called them Barbary pirates or the Moors or Turks…but it is the drive of Islam that invades and murders. It takes spiritual eyes to see the spiritual war. This is why the liberal thinks that if we just talk to them, if we are nice to them…if we had only been this or that 9/11 would not have happened.
We are at war.

What Is this Israeli woman doing, spending her entire life helping the disenfranchised black who despises her? Why does she identify with Martin Luther King, Jr.? He was speaking of slaves who wanted to be free, but black slaves, not Jewish slaves. He wanted freedom for the black man who suffered untold misery when he came to America in bondage. No white man, let alone Jewish white man would know what the black man suffered. To black people who live in tenements owned by Jewish slum lords, they now have their excuse to blame someone for their suffering, so why not pick on the Jew, as everyone else does. Jews who are liberal, helping the underdog (because they have always been the underdog) don’t get it! The black underdog does not want the Jew to defend him as if they are bros, because they are not, nor will they ever be. The Democratic party in America has been highjacked by not only black racists, but by white, Jew-hating fascists. Jews who continue to behave as if we are in the 1960’s, have not taken the blinders off. Radical Islam has changed the global culture. The door is now wide open for rabid, anti-semitism. This is no surprise. The sicker a culture becomes, the more Jew hatred will abound. Black preachers are out of the closet, that’s all. It’s been 200 years. This is just the tip of the iceberg, folks. Can you imagine the black preacher rifling through the White House documents, shredding as he goes, destroying all the white man history which so defiled him for 200 years? Why! There won’t be an archive left! Rife hatred on the loose. Obama is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He speaks with a silk tongue. The company he keeps will sure enough accompany him to the Capital. They will stomp, shred, defile, and vent 200 years of rage. Doesn’t anybody get this?

I say every man should account for his own actions, no special treatment for any man. My family come here under duress and struggle in recent times compared to 500 years. If you can’t account for your actions who can? My Great Grandmother come to America during WWII . She did not get anything handed to her, and I’m sure did not expect special treatment, she just wanted to live and not be killed by the Nazi’s in Germany. Her story is sad, and we did not know her complete story until after she died, she wrote notes and taped them under an old desk about the racism she endured and why she changed religions in fear of racist people in her small town. She was a German Jew and we did not know until after her death when my Uncle found her notes. We all grew up in a Baptist church after my Great Grandmother married a Preacher. Many people endure racism in some form or the other, and it all needs to stop and I feel Rev. Wright sounds like Hitler in his tapes. I have no respect for a man who would set in that church and listen to the racism there.

Another example of the standard set by AA’s. Bigotry is bigotry. Hate is hate. Doesn’t matter where it comes from or who it is directed to. To feel entitlement at being able to hit and run with these kinds of comments speaks to the community it comes from. Not everyone, but the underlying group of purveyors who attack openly and run away before there is an opportunity for response or dialog. We would do well to learn the tactic and employee it. Next time someone of that ilk tells you you are a racist, respond Yes I am, and it isn’t illegal so what is your point?? That might get their attention. It does take the wind out of the sails. We need to remember it is harder to unteach inappropriate behavior than get it right the first time.

I’m an African-American
Black Liberation Theology has been a part of my study since 1991. I currently am involved, professionally, in politics and community at very high levels.

I am a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

I applaud and appreciate Miss Ziman for the work that she does and view her as an ally in our common struggle. I’ve never met her.

I did not hear the remarks of Mr. Lee, my fraternity brother, first hand. I spoke to him minutes before he made them. According to what I have heard, he was out of line!

As an exponent of Black Liberation theology I must say this. The classifications that are being made are simply not accurate. They are being made of association of exerpts from Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Senator Obama, and others. I at least want to say that it was Black Liberation Theology that allowed me to appreciate the unique plight of others and indeed support their struggles, and right to self-determination.

I urge anyone to look gain more complete understanding of Black Liberation Theology, and liberation theology in general – there are many liberation theology ethos practiced. I have to believe that no reasonable person would find it offensive.

I also urge folks to find the comments of Rev. Dr. Wright in full context. I’ve been influenced by his teaching. He does rant! this is widely known. He does not hate or tolerate such behavior.

Senator Obama like ANYONE else surely is entitled to his response to racism, bigotry, and opression. I hope that he is given the respect to share his development through those stages of life honestly with us all. And that his sharing is not fell upon jaded ears and closed hearts.

Lastly, it is my hope that the opinions of the many are formed by the GOOD WORK AND RELATIONSHIPS that exist between our cultures. There is not a lot of press about it. The folks involved just do it. Miss Ziman is surely an example of this. My fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, attempts to be force in a healthy relationship between AA’s and Jews. (Please see the website http://www.kappaalphapsi1911.com to see a specific example!

Support who you want for president, be outraged by the comments of Mr. Lee, and do have concern for the possible implications among his peers. There are many who share his views. There are many who will mature beyond them. But most of all, allow all their righteous expressions against marginalization and oppression. See the good that happens that doesn’t get discussed and publicized. And be an advocate for that.

May this reach you in peace,

I am concerned also. I will advocate for my faith; for it is being woefully misrepresented to the world. To those who need to know the Truth.

If any man, wearing the collar, takes to the pulpit and speaks words that enflame the passions of one man against another, he is doing evil.

If indeed this man understands the teachings of our Christ — it is to forgive, as we have been forgiven by Him — and if this man cares for the souls of his parishoners, he will guide them, “shepherd” them, into the Light.

There can be no salvation until we have seen the “beam in our own eye” – when God reveals to us the sin that would have us point the finger of blame to the other man.

This is true liberation. For every man. I pray you and yours go in search of it.

He said these people have a great history of pain, loss, death, jail at the hands of the Communist part that was started by Jewish people, and he said they are not going over it. The hatred spewed in this blog is disheartening to say the least. The racist, ignorant comments that have been made by supposed educated people on this blog are disgusting and shameful! As a victim of bigotry I would expect those familiar with its insidious ways to be more mindful of their comments. Sadly, it seems that victimhood often times leads some to believe they are entitled to respond with hateful racist rhetoric. Shame on all of you.

Only because my mother is a passing acquaintance of Ms. Ziman’s am I aware that she had made previous allegations regarding Sen. Obama. She falsely claimed that he had made anti-Israel comments. Luckily for Sen. Obama others immediately came forward to refute her allegations. Here again it appears her statements are false. I say appears because I have yet to see the tape. I have however read the written response from Rev. Lee.(sent out by one of Ms. Ziman’s friends) in which he flatly denies her allegations. Her story has also changed between the time of the interview and the written account which she sent out on e-mail. For my own edification I have requested a copy of any available video from the dinner, so I can hear it for myself. I must admit that given Ms. Ziman’s track record and her fervent support of Sen. Clinton I have deep concerns about her veracity. It is also of great concern that she is a personal friend of Sen. Clinton and it is difficult to believe that she is engaging in race baiting on her own. If I am successful in my request for any tapes of the dinner, I will happily share them so the record will be correct regardless of who’s telling the truth( Ms. Ziman or Rev. Lee) If it is discovered that Ms. Ziman has been dishonest in her account, I challenge this blog to post it. I for one know that if my fears are true and Ms. Ziman is simply engaging in race baiting to further Sen. Clinton’s cause. I will withdraw my support for Sen. Clinton and encourage others to join me. I would be curious to see how many of you bother to check the facts for yourself. Or is this the justification you needed for your obvious deep seated hatred for African Americans? It is so sad to me that people who have experienced the pain of such brutal bigotry have chosen to inflict it on others instead of taking on the personal responsibility to combat this type of hatred. “A threat to justice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” If it is acceptable to be hateful towards one of God’s children because of color, creed, or national origin, which of us will ever be safe from it?

Disheartened,

I rarely respond to anonymous posters, since that places me at a disadvantage, but your post is nonsensical.

To begin with, Ziman’s relationship to Clinton was fully disclosed in the text above. This is standard journalistic practice and it was observed. If you haven’t read it, do so.

Secondly, if you read the other post on here which I wrote, regarding Reverend Lee and The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, you should do that too. Lee’s first explanation virtually acknowledged that he accused Jews of distorting the image of African Americans in the media. Read that too. It’s in plain English.

Thirdly, Lee then apologized. If he were not guilty, he never would have.

Fourthly, if there were video exonerating him, it would long ago have been released.

Fifthly, your accusation of racism is not progressive. It is reactionary. I do not think the majority of African Americans are anti-Semitic. Ziman does not either. Reverned Lee made anti-Semitic statements at a moment she was being given an award.

Sixth, get over yourself.

Although, you were concerned that my choice not to join in the racist rhetoric was “reactionary” as opposed to progressive, I see no evidence of your progressive values in response to the offensive posts. We obviously have different definitions of progressive.

You are right, it was clearly stated that Ms. Ziman is a Clinton supporter. that is standard journalistic practice. You must have lost your way when you reported Rev. Lee’s letter (which I did read) as ” virtually” acknowledging an allegation. It is my understanding that you are a screenwriter and not a journalist. Stick to fiction as that seems to be your forte.

Mr. Unite Us:

I’ve finally been able to watch the video of Ms. Ziman – and I believe she is both honest and sincere in her statements. She makes a very good point with this: “…they find an enemy to unite for some sort of a theology.” She is most likely referring to Black Liberation Theology.

As a Christian, I am deeply troubled that there are pastors parading as Christians, and yet teaching a theology completely antithetical to Christ. Not only do they harm the spiritual growth of their flock; but they grossly distort our faith to those unfamiliar with true Christianity.

Scripture informs us in II Timothy 4:3,4 – “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

This is natural to every man: to wallow in self-pity, to find blame in another, and to attempt to extract recompense from the one we perceive has wronged us. It would seem that these “reverends” – and liberal politicians – have offered themselves as “teachers” – even “saviours” – to prey on the weaker among us: Those of us who will not endure sound doctrine.

They ignore what is also written: “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” II Timothy 3:12.

Why then would we turn to the world – and man – for comfort and answers in such a time? The shepherd who cares for his flock, who surely knows the salvation of the Lord, will lead them to their true saviour, Jesus Christ. To the source of Life Eternal. For if they “take up the cross and follow Christ,” forgiving as He has forgiven us, they will know blessings beyond anything this world can offer them.

We, who believe, have only to look to the empty tomb to know this Truth.

Thus, for them, friendship with Nazis is much more valuable than .

Obama is not qualified for Presidency because he:
a) Either absolutely blind and insensitive. (I supplied about 3000 churches with printing production. I knew the priest’s attitude after 20 minutes of communication, not 20 years. He will have maximum 8 years, not 20 to understand people, far more sophisticated than the bigot Wright).
b) Or aloof elitist. The entire parish has been enthusiastically anti-American and Judeo-phobic for decades – but again, he”didn’t know”
c) Or just a liar.

I trend to believe in the combination a-b-c.

What happened to America when my back was turned? This isn’t the America that we veterans of World WarII fought & some of us died for. Anti-Semitism being preached in churches in America. I has got to be a dream. But it’s not!!! Doesn’t Mr. Lee know that the Jews were the best ally the Black people had here in America when they strove to gain their equality? Maybe he should go back to school and study his history of who was on the forefront of the civil rights marches with them, and also see who helped them organixed the NNACP. It was always Jews standing there right next to the Blacks Ministers and the black protesters. Mr Lee, like all who wish to gain power, pick on the Jews because they are the smallest miority in numbers in the country, and they are always easy targets for hate mongers. They said “It can’t happen here” but it is!!! I think Sen. Oboma has a special resonability to deconnce this type of hateful Anti- Semitism displayed by Mr. Lee, or he will lose whatever Jewish support he might now have. If it is not stopped soon it will speard like a cancer across our great country. Sen. Clinton and Sen Mc Cain should also condem it. Jews should be alert and awaken to the fact that “the hate mongers” are at it again It seems Anti-Semitism has leaped across the Atlantic Ocean, and has found a new home with some Black Ministers and their churches. This is just another instance where BLACKS seem to get away with whatever they say as compared to whites. When we think in terms of “politically correct” the Jewish community as well as the Christian white community are AFRAID of Black reaction. The Blacks (and again I don’t mean ALL Blacks) continue to use the slavery issue as their trump card and now it is the Jews who have persecuted them, which in fact is also a lie since it was Jews that actually helped them. How fast and convenient that now they forget. We better really wake up and wake up soon, because there is an air of Hitler emerging from all of this Jewish negativism. Just imagine what would happen if there were a Miss WHITE America Pagent! Anti-Semitism among blacks and other groups here in America has been rising exponentially over the past decade. We Jews have been reading about it since we were kids, and now it is more vehement and virulent then ever. We have always been told “sticks and stones will………..!” Well that is a total lie and that is exactly what the Jews thought in the beginning when Hitler first started the Nazi Party. If we don’t wake up soon and take a firm stand we will find that if our economy declines to where we have food lines again as in the years of the great depression, that those names that could never harm us will turn out to be bullets and knives at the least. Blacks alone are not responsible for this growing hatred of Jews, it is simmering in virtually every radical group in the world. The Jews are the cause of all of our misfortunes!!! It is also amazing to me that Israel is always wrong when they counter attack against terrorism within Israel. American Jews better wake up and stop trying to be so Politically Correct!

It seems to me there is a single source for the rash of anti-Semitism in the world today — namely, radical Islam.

The anti-Semitism appearing in some areas of the black community is a direct outgrowth of the black Islamic movement, not the black sub-culture itself. And, since Islamists have had amazing success in shutting down all criticism of their misbehavior in the western world, their especially vicious brand of anti-Semitism has been free to thrive and grow unabated.

I frankly don’t understand how Jewish Democrats can ignore Sen. Obama’s close Islamic connections and hand him the nomination.

Similarly, they were with Democrats even during the reign of the disastrous Jimmy, the chronic Jew- and Israel basher and Khomeini admirer… American Jews blindly support Democrats based on the perceptions that were obsolete even decades ago.

And their not challenging the Democratic elite (Dems perceive the Jewish voices as granted) allowed the sympathetic treatment of numerous racist and anti-Semitic leaders. Hope it is clear as to why I’m mentioning Democrats, the guarantors of the modern brand of racism existence.

What is wrong with my tribesman Jews? Once they begin enjoying freedoms and equality (like in Israel and USA), many of them turn into semi-robotic one-dimensional followers who never challenge the elite they (or their predecessors) ones believed. Do we need the oppressive “Galut” to be in touch with the reality, adjust to the situation, think independently (if at all) and remain creative in all aspects of the life (including politics)?

How terrible to see this and not to see it all over the media. I will try to make sure it is seen in my area.

The problem is we have so few choices…I really don’t want a continuation of Bush.

I am sickened to think of all that the Jewish people have done to help the black community. We, more than any other people, understand how hatred can destroy. And to have stupid people stand up in front of others, and without any shame, or without any true basis for their bigoted and otherwise stupid comments, spew such venom.

I will no longer look so kindly at my black clients. Instead of accepting them immediately as good and caring people in dealing with me, I will expect them to prove that they are worthy of my kindness.

“Reverends” such as Mr. Wright are nothing more than present-day Father Coughlins. Anyone who claims to be a person of “the cloth” and who spews hate and divisiveness is not entitled to any respect.

Apr 12, 2008 - 2:11 pm 150. Linda Frank:

“I will no longer look so kindly at my black clients. Instead of accepting them immediately as good and caring people in dealing with me, I will expect them to prove that they are worthy of my kindness.”

That is absurd. In fact it almost seems like a fake-disinformation post. No one here that I know of wants to paint all back people with same brush as Reverends Wright and Lee. In fact, the main criticism of these reverends is that they do that to white people.

Also regarding the poster who said he doesn’t “want a continuation of Bush.” Please educate yourself. For all his strengths and weaknesses, Bush is the farthest thing from a racist. Not only has brought more African Americans into the higher reaches of government than any previous president, he also has done far more for Africa than any world leader. Think this through.

Apr 12, 2008 - 2:23 pm 151. Ron:

Honestly, people. This is a, “she said, he said” – no evidence, except for a an unnamed African-American lawyer. Just say the word antisemitism, and the man is ruined.

What people hear and what is really said, are oft times not in sync.

Where is your sense of fair play?

Daphna Ziman is my inspiration. For a long time now I have been working for a man that hasbeen making unkind jokes about the Jews. Today, I showed him Daphna’s interview and told him that I will not stand for his insulting jokes any more. He apologized and asked me to forgive him. Daphna Ziman gave me the courage to risk losing my job, in the name of justice for my heritage.
Thank you Daphna Ziman and Roger Simon.

Anyone who is wondering about the connection between this kind of hatred, Obama’s church and the Nation of Islam, including Louis Farrahan and Barack Obama himself with his associations with Nation of Islam members, can get some vital information at: http://www.thestraightway.org. Mr. Roger Simon, please check this out.

The Jewish Community is not aware of the potential peril they face from this type of evil emerging from these so called “Christian” Churches. Please know that true Christians are also threatened by this hatred. We must stop being so politically correct that we cannot tell the truth about this new evil antisemitism coming into these churches through Nation of Islam leaders.

History tells us that Hitler recruited Muslims into their Nazi ranks because of the hatred Muslims (Islam) held toward the Jewish People.
It is no different today. Islam still teaches hatred of Jews and Christians. Let us remember. Let us pray and overcome! But let us know the truth.

I have mentored a young African-American girl in Harlem for five years. I don’t even see her color, and bring it up only now to explain why I can see this situation so clearly.

I was not there, but if I take your words at face value this is another atrocity – not just for Jews, but for all Americans (I could broaden it, but it’s America at stake here.)

I have never liked Obama. I am half-Jewish, but it wouldn’t matter if I was half-purple, as I have good instincts and I’ve never trusted a word that’s come out of his mouth. He is cocky and mannered. At least when Hillary makes mistakes, they are innocent. When this man makes mistakes, it turns out he is undercut by deep, frightening ripples of anti-Semitism, and possibly anti-Americanism (anti-Caucasianism too, possibly …and now it looks like he’s also, gasp! against good, hardworking Americans who may not have gone to Harvard and must, gasp! rely on religion or their family traditions of hunting and so on…)

The more I hear of him the more I am saddened.

For years I’ve been trying to get a journalism job abroad. I had hope in this election as long as Hillary was the frontrunner. I will stay if she gains momentum and wins.

Best,

Laurie

I was thinking of Obama getting my vote but after reading and hearing and seeing Ms Ziman I could not vote for Obama knowing he is still involved with this racist reverend.

Apr 13, 2008 - 11:26 am 156. Dale:

It seems that it is once again fashionable to be outspoken about one’s antisemitism, rather than keepiig it in the proverbial closet. This has been going on in the USA for the last several years.

Obama’s long term connections with Reverend Wright, Eric Lee and Louis Farrakhan make it clear that he does not oppose their point of view. Obama’s wife, Michelle, makes that very clear.

During the sixties I attended high school and college. The biggest supporters of the civil rights movement were my Jewish classmates. Considering the size of the Jewish population in the USA, just look how many of the freedom fighters were Jewish.

Racism of any kind is wrong be it black against white, white against black, white against Muslim, Muslim against Jews/Christians/Buddists [all nonMuslims-the infidels]. This racism is against the Judeo-Christian heritage/belief that so many Americans state they ascribe to.

I am sooo very disapointed that the two Democratic candidates have let me down. – Way too much vitriol in the Obama camp; deception in the Clinton camp. Problem, how do I vote for McCain who appears to be the most honest of the three major candidates when he is against stem cell research and has a party plank that would deny women the very basic right to control their own bodies?

It is terrible for one who has a title (Rev) and a platform to come out w/anti Jewish (Christian, Muslim, etc) remarks. Many people feel “less than” about some other group. Most of them have the good commonsense not to broadcast it. Knowing how the black community feels about whites now makes me less comfortable w/them. I who have shook the hand of Martin Luther King, have been the only white member of C.O.R.E., (Congress of Racial Equality) in Newark NJ, in 1963 will never give a donation to or attend a rally or support group that benefits blacks. What a shame they have alienated so many of us.

This is an anti-Semitic lie.

MrUnite wrote, “Michael I have yet to hear of one drive-by, let alone mass murder of Jews by Black Americans.”

Mass murder, no. Murder, yes. The only post-ww2 pogrom in the USA was by black Americans against Jewish Americans, in Crown Heights. A black mayor did nothing to stop the violence.

As a Jewish New Yorker, I remain in a perpetual state of amazement that many in the African-American community continue to villianize “the JEWS” . Howard Beach, Bensonhurst and all the other recent examples of white on black violent hate crimes have been perpetuated by members of the Italian community – but yet the Jews remain the target of their vitriol. My theory- the Italian population has a history of standing firm and proud reacting to threats in an appropriate manner and inspiring a grudging respect in the eyes of the Black community. We Jews- march down South with MLK, contribute millions of dollars to Black causes and then run and hide and abandon the neighborhoods where we grew up. The best scapegoat is the scapegoat that will always be bullied. Any Jew that votes for Obama is by by definition a self hating Jew and your vote for him places my young children in harm’s way.

Apr 13, 2008 - 4:27 pm 161. Isaac Shladovsky:

I share Daphne’s “hurt and anger” at the comments made by one, presumably a man of the cloth, regarding Jews. There can be no greater “crime” than stupidity and ignorance. T o deliver himself of anti-semitic remarks even while the organization on whose behalf he is the keynote speaker speaks to the utter stupidity of the man. As a man of the cloth he must/should know that blaming others for ones mistakes is an old as the Garden of Eden hence the argument that he speaks from ignorance. Indeed, to be ignorant of all that the Jewish community has done in support of the Afro-American community speaks for itself. Having said that, I do not believe it fair to hold Obama responsible for the remarks of the likes of Lee and/or Wright. Hateful talk deserves to be condemned no matter where it comes from. It is especially painful to me as a Jew to read that the ex chief rabbi of Israel, on the occasion of the 30 day memorial (AZKARA) ro the murdered Yeshiva students in Jerusalem, expressed himself saying that one Jewish life was worth more than a thousand Arab lives. I only wish Daphne had the presence of mind to confront the reverend even while he was spewing his venom, no mean task to say the least. The Haggadah teaches us how to respond to the evil son. I would hope that voices in the Afro-American community would do likewise.

Apr 13, 2008 - 5:53 pm 162. michael g:

Dear Isaac,

Why do we as Jews keep hallucinating that other peoples will act with the same consideration, humanity and generosity that we do? There will no no outcry from the African -American community. It is ironic that we as professional victims continue to be the vicitimizers and there is little we can do to change that. All our noble efforts in the past have been for nought. We may be able to live with ourselves for indeed our precepts are in fact righteous- try convincing others of that.

I wonder what might have happened if, during Lee’s diatribe, someone started repeating, “WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?”

Maybe others would have taken up the chant.

Maybe the audience would have out-shouted Lee, thereby correcting him. Maybe they would have shown him that they are more interested in following Jesus, a Jewish man of peace, than following any bigot’s distortion of Christianity.

There is so much hatred on this blog. It seems no one listened to Barak’s speech on race. Those of you who are using a single brush are sounding like victems. Instead of finding common ground you seem to be entrenched, with a blind eye, in protecting yourselves as a group. As a Jew, I can find lots of good and bad in the United States Israel (how many native americans were killed by euopean immigrants in the name of manifest destiny? how many lives have been saved because of the sacrfices of US soldiers during WWII? How many children have died as the result of Israeli and Palastenian mistrust? How many people around the world have survived because of medical discoveris made by Israilis?) Baraks point is that the negativity has to stop, common ground found and work from there. Racism hurts no matter who the victim.

Apr 14, 2008 - 8:50 am 165. Andrew:

Unfortunately, what Albert Einstein said still holds.

“After the First World War, many Germans accused the Jews first of starting the war and then of losing it. This is nothing new, of course. Throughout history, Jews have been accused of all sorts of treachery, such as poisoning water wells or murdering children as religious sacrifices. Much of this can be attributed to jealousy, because, despite the fact that Jewish people have always been thinly populated in various countries, they have always had a disproportionate number of outstanding public figures”.

Apr 14, 2008 - 9:37 pm 168. MSG Quixo:

My condolences to Daphna Ziman for the pain she experienced due to Rev. Eric Lee’s speach. I am even more horrified by the response on this website. Yes, the speech reported here was hateful and full of prejudice. And we should all speak out against this preacher. But how can so many people respond to it by dishing out even more racial generalizations and stereotypes. And how can you go so far as to link Barrack Obama and all other black people who have nothing to do with him?

How do you expect to ever end this hatred or receive respect if you make such illogical, mean-spirited and, completely racist comments? I am ashamed that this, in some eyes, will represent the view of all Jewish people. Luckily most Americans now understand that the Jewish community, like the Black community and America as a whole is made up of people with diverse points of view, the vast majority of whom are capable of compassion, decency and understanding.

Now he must convince me that he does not share his pastors opinion.
Mrs. Clinton is not a viable option.
She is her husbands puppet on a string.
If she is elected, he will be in her ear all of the time.
The republican party has one goal, to keep us in the war zones and keep our troops dying.
At this point, I find myself without a candidate for whom to vote.

Is President George Bush held responsible or asked to comment EVERY TIME a white church leader makes a speech filled with hatred and bigotry ? Yes, I am sure that somewhere is this country this is done once in awhile. Is Pres. Bush’s leadership ability questioned because of this ? No. Never. We all can agree from listening to what Ms. Ziman recounted, Rev.Lee sounds like he is full of hate which is the complete opposite of what a man of the cloth is expected to be filled with. He showed his true colors when he spoke at that event.Pretty sad. However people let’s get this right once and for all ! Obama is not responsible for whatever is said by anyone be they black or white in this world ! Listen to what Obama and Clinton say, period. Do not auotmatically associate political cadidates with what a so called supporter has to say AND think that the candidate must think the same way that that supporter does. It’s a big world and unfortuantely it’s not as rosey as we’d like it to be. So we deal with it and we don’t stand for any leader from any faith to speak with such hate for mankind as Rev. Lee did. That should be our focus. Period.

Apr 15, 2008 - 5:47 am 171. michael g:

no one is actually attributing Lee’s hateful comments to Obama- I for one am just waiting for him to repudiate them. Until then, I will continue to believe that Obama is in line with Reverend Lee and all those like him. Let Mr. Obama state clearly and unequivocally that his candidacy is one of tolerance and understanding and that these persistent anti- Semitic outbursts are reminiscent of Nazi Germany and the Ayatollahs, The African American community is brainwashing their youth and teaching them to hate Jews- who most probably, based on our own history, would prove to be the most valuable allies they could hope for…

Apr 15, 2008 - 3:27 pm 172. blackamerican:

I’m sorry that one (or two) bad apples have ruined the bunch for you, but I am speaking as a black American, I think that many of you are grossly overestimating anti-Semitism in the black community.

Nobody is taught to hate Jews. This is nonsense to suggest that this is widespread. Most black people don’t even know any Jewish people!

I would say, though, that a large number of African-Americans are perhaps unsophisticated in how they express their opinions because a large number are uneducated.

For example, you might hear things like “the Jews own Hollywood” and people might not understand why that’s a BAD thing to say.

I’m sorry that Mrs. Ziman suffered this outrage.

But don’t tar everyone with the same brush.

Apr 15, 2008 - 4:30 pm 173. shanatobias:

I don’t get it. Jews fought and died for the Civil Rights movement and they still are villified by the black community.
Where are the black leaders teaching these things instead of hatred. God Bless you Daphna for having the courage to speak up. You are an inspiration. It (black artists and neighborhoods)are NOT owned by JEWS. The old wives tale of the predator Jews who stole the Black’s music is incorrect. Even Little Richard gave thanks to the Jewish Alan Freed for putting the first artists on side spinning. Anyone who is not willing to admit the wonderful Jewish and Black togetherness that once existed does a great dis service to history and to the young kids that deserve more than hateful and untrue stories. The old myth is dead.

Apr 15, 2008 - 6:24 pm 174. americanman:

wow, the amount of hypocrisy on the blog is stunning.

Gee, I wish i could live in your world, where no one that you know or care for ever says a racist, homophobic, sexist, anti-immigrant or anti-Semitic statement, and that unless you thoroughly denounce that statement then and there, you are part and parcel of that sentiment as well.

This is unreal, to call out someone for racism and then engage in racial sterotyping yourselves!

I wasn’t there for the talk, but could it be that this Hillary Clinton supporter is perhaps being a wee bit oversensitive and using this as a platform for her candidate?

I have Jewish friends who will say as the insider joke “jews own the media.”

If anyone outside that group says the same thing, they’re anti-semitic and one step away from being a Nazi.

Could it be that the Rev. was railing about negative and racist images in the media? Could it be that he was talking about Jews owning the media as well and maybe calling Jews to task for this because of a shared history of oppression? Maybe.

Could he have said it better? Probably.

Was he filled with hate? Probably not.

Apr 15, 2008 - 8:39 pm 176. michael g:

and by the way, blackamerican- there are almost no Jews left in Poland (thanks to the Holocaust) but yet anti- Semitism not only exists but is reported at an all time high. The fact that many blacks “don’t know any Jews” does not preclude them being anti- Semitic. Am I to assume that the only reason they are not anti-Semitic is because they don’t know any Jews? what if they did know Jews? then what…

Apr 15, 2008 - 8:44 pm 177. gold:

This is like the beginings of Nazi Germany.
Obama is running to become the leader of this country and could easily use it to blame all on the Jews.

A thought for my Jewish Brothers and Sisters.

It is not just the Jews that the left hates and despises. It includes “those stupid f—–g rednecks” (like me) that go to church and belong to the NRA.

G. W. has been the only politician in recent years to state unequivocally that his administration would defend Israel. The conservative Christians are the one group that supports Israel. The liberals on the other hand, have consistently supported the genocidal killers that want to destroy Israel. Yasser Arafat was the most frequent foreign leader to visit the Clinton White House. And Jimmy Carter has just literally embraced terrorists that daily murder Israeli women and children.

It is Kafkaesque that liberal Jews still support Democrats in general and liberals in particular.

A rhetorical question: I wonder if the “average liberal” hates and despises us as much as the “average German” did the Jews in the 1930’s.

Apr 17, 2008 - 1:55 am 180. Kate De Braose:

I wonder why nobody mentions the rants of white evangelicals, who are fond of discriminating against everyone.

Since the event (Simon wrote about) happened, I understand that Rev. Lee has apologized for his remarks and asked forgiveness, and the offended parties have reciprocated. Nothing could be more appropriate or more healing for the people of g-d to do.

None of us could truly say that our careless remarks could not have offended our neighbors. Let us call for more understanding for each other, rather than less.

We really would be dunces if we let political hacks divide and conquer us!

Apr 18, 2008 - 1:19 pm 181. Careful:

I have to say, if the speech by Rev. Lee was as Mrs. Ziman described, then what a disgrace. No one should have to endure such hateful words this day and age. Including the readers of this Blog.

Unfortunately, after reading through everyones’ comments, I also find it offensive and disgraceful as to how many of you speak negatively about the African American race and communities in response to this story. Understand, that we African Americans, just as any other race of people, have individual thoughts and perspectives, and don’t put as much credit in these so called leaders that preach Hate as you claim we do.

What amazes me is, we Americans say we want to move forward past racism, which we claim is not in our hearts, but the minute someone utters racist reamarks, we immediately take offense, then turn and do the same. I’ve just read inserts claiming African American communities don’t appreciate the charity, and some say they’re going to quit there services. Truthfully, a lot of you sound like the Rev Lee himself, HATEFUL! Check yourselves and your own hearts before judging.

Also, as a Sen Clinton supportor, I find it ironic how Mrs.Ziman tied Senator Obama’s name to this whole thing. She mentioned, “Rev. Lee said Obama’s our leader.” Well??? This raised a flag to her crediability for me (at no disrespect to Mrs. Ziman) because, Since Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we African Americans, don’t just quickly claim someone as our leader. That just doesn’t happen. I can’t see the Rev. (or so called Rev.) saying that unless he was deliberately trying to pull Sen.Obama into this. (or is she??)

Be careful what you accept as gospel.

Apr 18, 2008 - 2:18 pm 182. Richard Dumas:

First, let’s remember that there are idiots of all races and religions. This person, whoever he is does not speak for all African Americans. Or for Obama. To make that assertion is infact racist. This is just another attack by a Clinton supporter trying put words in Obama’s mouth.

Apr 19, 2008 - 2:29 pm 183. Believer:

While I’m not a Catholic, there is so much love and gratitude in my heart for Pope Benedict right now — he has just concluded his address to the crowd in Yonkers, NY.

In an earlier comment, I expressed how grieved I’ve been that our faith has been misrepresented to the world by reverends such as Wright and Lee. And my heart has been no less troubled that their parishoners have heard words that, rather than lead them to life and joy, might forever keep them mired in anger and hate.

I can only pray that those who’ve heretofore tasted the bitter fruit of one teaching, will turn now and taste the fruit offered by this man who knows Truth. “Walk in the ways of the Lord,” he tells us.

For surely, it is now clear to all: one stands in stark contrast to the other.

Apr 19, 2008 - 4:06 pm 184. OS:

I am amazed at how racist most of the comments to this story are. You are criticizing others for being racist and you are racist yourself. Read the hatred against African Americans that are reflected in these comments. What do you call people who look for negatives by individuals and then hate a whole group of people because of what one idiot says — you call them racists.

Apr 19, 2008 - 11:40 pm 185. maya:

I’ve just travellled to south africa. the Jewish community there have al received a copy of Ms. Ziman’s video and email. They are so grateful that someone is finally standing up against anti semitism. some of the leaders there feel that if Obama is electd we can welcome South africa in the U.S.
Why is it that even now he still hasn’t taken a public position against Rev. Wright’s anti semitic comments.
How can any Jew even think of voting for Sen. Obama? only Jews who are Jew haters could even think of voting for someone who doesn’t have the integrity to stand up aganist racism.
I thank G-D for Daphna ziman every day. She’s my hero !!!!!!!!!

Apr 19, 2008 - 11:41 pm 186. Thinking Jew:

Making Obama responsible for the actions of someone he does not know or condone is not responsible. Why not make the mayor responsible because the man lives in L.A.? Why not make all clergy? Why not demanding an apology from the Pope? Will Ms. Ziman apologize for all the slights of African Americans by Jews?

This event, if it is related truthfully, is reprehensible. It has nothing to do with Barack Obama. The Clinton supporter’s attempt to bring divisive racism into politics is more reprehensible than the insult she endured. Jews should be smart enough not to swallow this kind of hatred. We have endured it for too long to be the purveyors of hatred.

Apr 20, 2008 - 9:19 am 187. Brian C:

Hey Roger,

I would love to see PJM put up an open-ended survey, asking people to name even three movies where they see black people depicted as rapists, without resorting to the IMDb. I can only think of one film that I’ve seen with a black rapist, “Death Wish” and even that was a group attack: most of the other rapists were white.
So Lee’s point is ridiculous.

For anyone who believes words of hate can be tolerated, and for those who might have missed the video now posted at:

We are a nation in need of leaders who are not slow to recognize evil.

Some of these “Reverends” apparently don’t take the words of Yeshua/Christ seriously…HE said to love your enemy and what good is it if you love only your friends for even the worst among us can do that? My understanding of scripture tells me that even if one perceives enmity in his own heart for someone it is still his responsibility as a believer to love that person-without exception, without rancor, and with grace…Yeshua was VERY clear on this and in fact gave HIS life for us when we were still HIS enemy….”Reverend” Lee needs to take some personal inventory at the very least….
The other side of the coin is that Africans in America have borne and continue to bear the terrible cost of racism, along with the theft of their history, language and culture….And I rarely hear people take this on in a real way, even in the Black community…if there were more open discussion of these issues there would be less Lees and Wrights – If more people did their homework, and read or studied some of the great Black historians, like J.A. Rogers,(there is life before and after MLK after all and he was not the last word on the subject and frankly not even the deepest thinker) or some of the great Jewish historians like Israeli statesman Schlomo Ben Ami, the discussion might actually bear good fruit and mutual understanding between these two great peoples…

Apr 22, 2008 - 2:38 am 190. Mortimer:

With Reverends like Jackson, Sharpton, Wright and Lee as well as the Nation Of Ialam, is there any wonder why black moral behavior is at an all time low vis a vis crime, illegitimacy, std’s and bigotry. Just yell racism and point the finger at whitey and/or jewey, and after you spew your ritual hate and lies, beg for some more handouts. What a bunch of losers.

Apr 22, 2008 - 2:59 pm 191. melinda:

to Mortimer: you clearly have no “moral” compass either…it is you who are spewing “ritual hate” and your comment does nothing ‘except display your complete ignorance of history, as well your own racism in full bloom….your attitude doesn’t help anyone, brother…not at all…

African genocide of black on black tribal murder continues until today-Darfur anyone? Tribes sold the captives of rival tribes to Slave traders of efery type, none a credit to their professed race or religion. When no one else would hire African Americans, Jews did. Hollywood gave them a chance. This “reverend” is no man of G-d but a hate-spewer like every other in history. He does not applaide his people’s intelligence, spirituality, greatness or contributions to mankind. He fuels the fears and angers and rips open old wounds for more scarring in an “attempt” to heal. As long as Barack Obama does not leave that church and keeps that man as a confident, America is in danger. It does not matter if Obama was raised Muslim, as some assert. He lives hatred in the guise of spiritual education and enlightenment. He and his ilk will set back the rights of African Americans and Blacks from other partsx of the world.

Apr 23, 2008 - 12:34 pm 194. Rather Not:

All of you guys who are blaming Barack for some crazy old bastard’s misdeeds are nothing short of a racist who pretends otherwise. You don’t like Barak simply because he is black. There has been no connection between Barak and this crazy old bastard, nor can one be proven. However, this whole illogical attempt to connect Barak to this anti-semitic incident smells nothing short of Clintonesque attempt to besmirch the good name of a great man. Before, I was debating between Hillary and Barak. Now, I will not only campaign in favor of Barak, but will seek donors and supporters from now till the time he is elected. SHAME ON THOSE WHO CONDEMN WITHOUT FACTS.

These are unbelievable racist rants from the chorus of folks that are unfortunately representative of many. Did you hear the this tape? Most of the black people walked out! You people are hate mongers.

In addition, although I do not support what Rev Wright has said, I think that is he is being misquoted about Jews by Daphna. The only thing that he said, from what i have heard (in one one of the endless loop of speeches), is one pro-Palestinian speech.

To associate this hate stuff by Lee with Obama is pure sophstry. It sounds to me like Nazi-like propaganda against him. Jews should be ashamed of spouting this filth!

Apr 23, 2008 - 5:06 pm 196. Get It Straight:

The Black community has it all wrong. The majority of the Racists in America are Black. The current level of Anti-Semitism is based on total ignorance of history and like Hitler these Reverends who wish to blame the Jews for their own failings and the failings they perpetrate on their congregations, refuse to acknowledge historical events.

It is much easier for them to Blame than to work on the real problems that face the Black community, after all they turned their back on the Jews when we offered help. They would rather the Black community be a slave to the social welfare system and they receive funds for promoting hatred.

And Barak is hiding again. Hiding his do nothing history in Government, hiding his true feelings, since he appointed Rev. Wright to his spiritual advisory committee after Wright’s rant.

Don’t let his eloquent speeches fool you as to who and what he really is.

Daphna Ziman is one of political Hollywood’s top fundraisers for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.).

Daphna Ziman in Beverly Hills
Talks about Hillary Clinton
By Tina Daunt, L. A. Times Staff Writer
February 16, 2007

The 2008 presidential campaign is on and Daphna Ziman, a former model who heads her own film and television production company, is one of political Hollywood’s top fundraisers for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.).

“It’s a battle for every cent and endorsement. Hillary Clinton is the right candidate,” Ziman explains. “The nation is in deep need for a mother figure who will lead the people out of a violent world and back into caring for the poor and the disabled, mostly caring for our children, our future.”

This is how it goes during political season in Hollywood: There’s a core group of avid money raisers, many of them established and respected in the entertainment industry. (Clinton has about a dozen of them, including media mogul Haim Saban and supermarket magnate Ron Burkle.) They have Rolodexes that can help raise millions. In previous years, billionaires could open their checkbooks and give staggering sums to a single candidate. But with new contribution limits — $2,300 per person — fundraising has become a more labor-intensive process. (Saban said recently: “Every donor must also become a fundraiser.”)

After hearing and watching this video i believe what she is saying. We did not do anything to perpetuate the plight of the Black community. These religious people use the pulpit as a means to an end so that they can preach their hatred. I do not believe the majority of black people feel this way, but these leaders instill the hate and bigotry in them.I call on the SCLC to distance itself from people like Rev.Lee.

Reverend Eric Lee and others like him are doing the same as the mullahs in Iran – spewing hatred of the infidels.

They all say that the Christian Bible and the Koran are based on the Hebrew Bible. Perhaps they should read Genesis (12:3): It clearly states that God “will bless those who bless the Jews and curse whoever curses the Jews.”

Apr 26, 2008 - 11:00 am 200. Lieberman:

Judging from the responses here, Mrs. Ziman accomplished her goal of advancing the Clinton candidacy at the expense of Obama, by blaming him for the real or imagined anti-semitism of a black reverend.
Is obama suddenly responsible for every utterance of anyone professing to support him?
Clinton advocates like to believe and spread the absurd idea that Obama is deep down a black-racist Muslim, and as Muslims are anti-semitic, then so is Obama.
This is a pathetic and self deceiving view. Unfortunately, anti-semitism in various forms is not limited to any group. After the 2000 election, some White Business leaders, believed to be Democrats quietly confessed they just couldn’t vote for Gore, because it put a Jew a heartbeat away from the Presidency. (Lieberman, – no relation)
Today, these people are ardent supporters of Sen. Clinton.

Should her supporters’ view cast an anti-semitic shadow on Mrs. Clinton?

Wake up Black Americans !! The Wrights, Farrakhans,Jacksons, Sharptons and Lees hurt America and destroy Black American progress !

Millions of White Americans voted for Obama—now these demagogues, Lee, Wright, Farrakhan, Jackson and Sharpton, basking in their message of hate and bigotry, are the new “heros” to whom ? To White racists, who will gain strength and Blacks who will
use “victimization”— as their reason for any of their failures. We were making progress in ridding ourselves of these two groups—-but these men, for fame and money, have sold out American Whites and American Blacks !!!

If and when, America resoundly defeats this type of bigotry and hate—-by voting against Obama—–maybe Black Churches will expel these charlatans !!!

“The Black community has it all wrong. The majority of the Racists in America are Black.”

I am very offended by people spout this unfounded opinion as fact. I very strongly feel the need to discourage people from thinking that the view of a few pastors is the prevailing thought amongst all black americans. Rather than blame, why not heal and promote understanding between the groups. I agree with another poster who noted that when a couple of prominent black people do something, it’s like all blacks are represented. Don’t turn this into a cheap political trick, or say we’re all bad. To use this as a way to demonize blacks or make people fear all black leaders is contrary to, I think, the lesson we can learn from people making anti-semitic remarks.

May 2, 2008 - 8:10 am 205. Lorne Progosh:

I am a relatively uneducated middle aged man of Jewish and Christian parents. When I was a young boy growing up in a small town in Canada I had no idea what a Jew was until one day at the age of 12 years old, my friend from the neighborhood, called be a “Dirty Jew” I ran home to ask my father what a dirty Jew was. From that time on I have made it my business to find this out. When I was 17 (1967) I went to Israel, on the second day of war. I stayed for a year and saw a magnificent bunch of men and women working and fighting for their own existence. I’ve come to the conclusion we are a pretty good bunch who have contributed so much from so few. Did you know that Jews, a small minority in this country, made major contributions to the cultural, scientific, political, and economic life of the United States that is disproportionate to any other minority. For example, 37% of all United States Nobel Prize winners in the 20th century were Jewish. I also remember my grade 9 history teacher’s first class. He in fact was a black man. He wrote in big letters on the blackboard. THOSE WHO DO NOT LEARN THEIR HISTORY ARE SURELY DOOMED TO REPEAT IT. We Jews have from the time of recorded history, for some reason, become the targets of racism and hate. Those of you out there who do not see the possible danger signs need to start watching the History channel more often. If what you hear from the Black community these days is not alarming to you, then like my history teacher once said. You are doomed to repeat it. I know the majority of men and women in the black community are outstanding citizens, but you know, to be quite frank, there are just too many who are not. It is time for true leaders in the black community to stand up and provide the leadership required for the black community to rise to their true potential and just stop laying blame where it should not be. In the meantime I am truly on edge and always remember what my adopted Israeli father told me when I was leaving for home in the US. Remember he said, you can always come back to Israel when the world turns upon us again. At least this time you can fight like and die like a man.

It is shameful that these reverends, supposedly men of God preach exactly what is against Judeo-Christian teachings. Peace and love for mankind. These Lees’.Sharptons’ and Wrights’ do nothing for the human race or for their own people, they are strictly out for themselves and all they can get. My late cousin was on of those responsible for procuring the Exodus. The hardships that the Jews have endured from WWII and before are unimaginable. But we went on never hating a people. In many instances, standing up for the African-Americans. Peace marches, which we participated in, lest we forget Schwerner and Goodman! Perhaps we terrible Jews should not have invented vaccines to save the human race. I have many friends who are people of color, who are people who go to church, but none with Pastors’ like these dudes. People, if I ever thought of voting for Obama, forget that! With Wright having been his Pastor for the many years that he was, his opinions have to be as slanted and hateful as that of Wright.

Dear Daphna. You deserve what you got.
Do you know how many jewish kids suffer in this world, in Israel, in Europe & in america. The jewish comunity didn’t help me, (I tryed to get help from them)or any american jew or any non ortodox jew. There are many like me, that bearly make the month. There are homless jewish mothers & kids, that are ashamed in there cituation. There are many poor jewish kids, that nobody pays attention to them. At list the black kids have the comunity support. My kids don’t. The people that helped me & people like me are only ortodox Israelies. that I never met before.

The rest of my friends that are not ortodox (I didn’t have ortodox friends before) jewish & gentile some of them are very rich, didn’t whant to help, just tryed to criticize me. Excuse me! The Reverend should have also mentioned the jewish slave-ship owners and the jewish interests in the slave trade itself.

I’m sorry if one is jewish or not. The jewish involvement in slavery is well documented and historically recorded.

So why are jewish people all of a sudden feeling offended??

- You are typcally misguided and people sould feel sorry for you and the culture you bring to the table whith comments like this. There were more blacks selling other blacks into slavery then any other and Sonny you maybe interested to know blacks are still selling blacks into slavery and killing and raping each other in Africa. My liberal Jewish friends have done more for the black community then any other minority. They don’t ask for thanks but they sure as hell should’t be treated in this fashion. Try to act like a human – you will find it may help you in the long run
