Sarah Palin Is No Tom Eagleton
Quite the contrary: she could be that rare running mate who makes a positive difference in an election.

By Wednesday morning, scores of bloggers and pundits were comparing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to Tom Eagleton, the Missouri senator whose abortive selection as George McGovern’s 1972 running mate helped doom the Democrat’s challenge to President Richard Nixon.
Jeralyn Merritt at TalkLeft seems to have been the first to invoke the Eagleton comparison, within hours of John McCain’s announcement of his running mate, but she had plenty of company after Monday’s news that Palin’s teenage daughter is pregnant. Richard Gizbert of Huffington Post flatly pronounced Palin “the new Thomas Eagleton” and predicted that she would withdraw “within the next week or so.” By Tuesday, Joshua Green of the Atlantic Monthly had an article online examining the comparison in detail.
Yet nothing in the attacks that Democrats or the media have made against Palin compares to the scandal that brought down Eagleton — a hidden history of severe mental illness he hadn’t disclosed to McGovern before his selection as running mate. And judging from the way Republicans have rallied to Palin’s defense, it seems highly unlikely she will be bumped from the ticket.
Indeed, the spectacle of a media feeding frenzy over a working mother and her pregnant teenager seems to have produced a backlash that could have an effect quite the opposite of what Palin’s enemies originally imagined. She may yet turn out to be the anti-Eagleton — that rare choice of a running mate who makes a positive difference in a presidential election.
Firestorm and backlash
Democrats initially slammed McCain’s selection of the relatively unknown 44-year-old governor as a weak contrast to Barack Obama’s choice of 65-year-old Sen. Joe Biden. Clinton aide Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) called the Palin pick evidence of “political panic” by the GOP. Obama spokesman Bill Burton mocked Palin as “the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience.”
Palin’s staunch conservatism, however, made her an instant favorite of many who had previously been skeptical toward the maverick McCain. David Keene of the American Conservative Union predicted she would help energize those who have previously been “lukewarm” about McCain’s candidacy, and polls indicated the addition of Palin to the ticket immediately narrowed the “enthusiasm gap” that has plagued the Republicans this year.
“Palin’s selection … clearly is firing up the GOP rank and file,” Rasmussen Reports found in the immediate aftermath of the announcement, with 57 percent of Republicans saying they were “eager to vote for McCain. Previous surveys have not shown this level of GOP enthusiasm.”
The real firestorm began when left-wing bloggers floated bizarre Internet rumors that Palin’s infant son was actually her grandson. Monday, the Palins announced that their 17-year-old daughter was pregnant. The National Enquirer claimed this was in response to their questions, although Time magazine reported that daughter Bristol’s pregnancy with her hockey-player fiancé was no secret in their hometown.

1. Red Blooded American:And she has yet to directly answer a single question since being named by McCain. Why? Is it not reasonable to expect a candidate for high office to field questions?
Sep 6, 2008 - 12:16 am 2. SAF:It was with great glee that I watched the Obama operatives fall into the “no experience” trap attacking Palin. Since any bad thing you can say about her in foreign policy is equally applicable to Obama. Going to IHOP for breakfast does not count as foreign policy experience.
Anything bad you can say about her as to running an enterprise shines a light on Obama’s zero experience. I find it amazing that she has an 80% approval rating running a 14 billion dollar budget.
She correctly points out that she has fought the good fight and made many tough decisions. Her sex may have been one of the reasons she was chosen but what she accomplished in Alaska is no mean feat. Obama’s only claim to fame is that he defeated Hillary, a candidate with the biggest negatives in history. But dare I say he would not have accomplished this as a white man? Geraldine Ferraro said it first.

Sep 6, 2008 - 1:36 am 4. Ed Wallis:Oh, it seems like the Zerobama-bots are out EARLY this morning…hi there, RedBloodedAmi and SarahAmi!
Maybe if you follow what Palin actually SAYS - instead of the smears, lies and other distortions on your Leftist websites - you might learn more about what she thinks and has done.
…And “SarahA”…please define what you mean by “neglect” and PROVIDE PROOF…or just go away as the fraud you seem to be.
Sep 6, 2008 - 1:59 am 5. 888:They piled on and on and on to shame and hurt this woman into dropping out of the race. They mocked her, they belittled her, they degraded and insulted her and her family…they threw big and blunt stones. Now, their worse fears have come back to haunt them. Sarah Palin is a star, and she’s stealing the limelight from their messiah. How fitting and ironic. The party that was supposed to be the protector and proud defender of women’s rights, especially in the workplace, ends up being the party instrumental in bringing about the most vicious and disgraceful display of hypocrisy, lies, distortions and hate mongering in this decade…and all against this one woman. What a tough cookie Sarah Palin is. The Democratic machine and the liberal party establishment couldn’t break her, couldn’t bring her down. And, it’s only been a week since the nation was introduced to her. Watch out.
Sep 6, 2008 - 3:05 am 6. roschelle:After a mediocre (at best) acceptance speech I still don’t know who she is. She wasn’t properly vetted and when the dirt on her hit the press everyone wanted to blame Obama and his supporters. And talking about keeping kids out of politics…Conservatives should practice what they preach! This woman has become more popular in less than a week than Obama and McCain. What does that say about the American People?…wow…People are raving about how much they love her, her kids, even her parents who, as far as I know…have only been shown once…in the audience at the RNC…What is going on?
Sep 6, 2008 - 3:36 am 7. haha:Leftists fail to realize that part of being a conservative is the realization that nobody is perfect.
The important thing is how Palin dealt with both her and her daughter’s pregnancies and took responsibility for them. These attacks simply highlight the fact that she is willing to take responsibility, and we respect and support that.
Sep 6, 2008 - 3:53 am 8. Tom:Roschelle - what is going on is people are tired of hearing that she wasn’t vetted, the info is online for you see, please get your head out of the sand…..a week of your own ilk digging up that dirt and you don’t have a clue who she is - the internet works both ways - you can accept whatever you read as fact, or can actually research and get the truth…….refreshing!!.
Sep 6, 2008 - 3:54 am 9. gldnldy:roschelle: Obama’s many, many relatives from Kenya and his step-father’s relatives in Indonesia, who are all very proud of him, were nowhere in sight, not only during the Democratic convention, but throughout the primaries and throughout this election. Why is Obama and his campaign so scared to show America Obama’s relatives, especially his half-brothers and half-sisters in Africa (remember his brother, George, who is living in a hut and whom Obama won’t even acknowledge)? Why did he not have anyone from his family at his convention? Isn’t he proud of his family or his heritage???? What is he trying to hide from America about his past…and present? The truth is, after 2 years of Obama criss-crossing the country talking about what’s wrong with America, with journalists who worship him following him everywhere including to Europe and culminating in 80,000 adoring devotees mesmorized by him last week in Denver, WE STILL DON’T KNOW WHO HE IS.

She did offer up her birth certificate, which puts her ahead of what’s his name. Maybe she is to busy cramming for her debate to have time for some left wing vulture with a press pass.
Why should she sit down for a hatchet job by any member of the MSM. The MSM has made their position perfectly clear. In doing so they have forfeited any right to place a claim on the time of any Conservative candidate.

Sep 6, 2008 - 4:06 am 13. Koblog:Roschelle, you ask, “What is going on?”
It’s easy. We Americans see and hear in Sarah Palin the essential American spirit, not the Ivy League lawyer metrosexual Hollywood hair plugs bloviating elitism we’ve been force fed from the left.
We see a woman who loves her country and her family.
As Peggy Noonan said, “…She is a feminist not in the Yale Gender Studies sense but the How Do I Reload This Thang way, because she is a woman who in style, history, moxie and femininity is exactly like a normal American feminist and not an Abstract Theory feminist; because she wears makeup and heels and eats mooseburger….”
See? It’s easy.

If Palin is an Eagleton or not..is still up in the air. We honestly don’t know. We suspect that McCain did a rush job selecting her when insiders rebelled at longtime domestic liberal Joe Lieberman, and didn’t vet her adequately.
Hometown newspaper not checked. Republican Party officials in Alaska not interviewed. McCains people got the story of her involvement in the “Bridge to Nowhere” and journeys to lobby for more earmarks for Alaska very wrong.
Learned of the daughters pregnancy the day before her “job offer” interview.
Now we learn she bounced around 5 colleges before getting a journalism degree. None of the colleges say McCain people showed up with a Palin release to look at grades, reasons why she bailed from some universities after only a semester.(or was ASKED to bail).
Now the trooper is rumored, after Democrat attorneys showed up, willing to take a lie detector test to see if Gov Palin was telling the truth in her child custody deposition about “death threats ” she claimed she heard him make.
Right now, no one knows.
We started with the Cult of Obamessiah and the Cult of the Eternally Suffering POW/MIA.
Now we have conservatives, Religious Right, and various women now worshipping a woman they didn’t know existed a week ago. Call it the Cult of the Unknown Palin Madonna.

Sep 6, 2008 - 4:11 am 16. chicago:LMAO!!! the Obama lemmings are out in full force!
the Obama campaign is turning out to be the biggest laughing stock in all Presidential campaign history! Let’s see what they have in store for us:
Red Blooded American:
And she has yet to directly answer a single question since being named by McCain. Why? Is it not reasonable to expect a candidate for high office to field questions?
when Obama start telling the truth about Ayers, Wright, Rezko, Stroger Family and his dealings with the corrupt Chicago Political machine, and when the media starts asking him about them then I’d say that Gov. Palin should start giving interviews.
Sarahamerica:
Sarah Palin neglects the impoverished rural Alaskans who have no indoor plumbing, while her fatcat industry friends rape and pillage Alaskan resources.
fact check: Gov. Palin made the oil companies give back the people’s fair share.
if you can find a single person in Alaska that would agree with your diatribe, without getting mistaken for a moose and shot, I’d tip my hat to ya. LOL!
roschelle:

let’s see…”mediocre acceptance speech…” wow, that’s a stretch since even the leftwing pundits said that the speed was awesome.
“she wasn’t properly vetted…” by whom? the vetting question is not up to anyone to ask except for the McCain campaign. let’s talk about vetting, how much vetting did the leftwing media do with Obama? I rest my case. NEXT!
“talking about keeping kids out of politics…” is that the same as Obama putting his kids on the convention stage and play family night? or the interview with his kids to show how cool their family is? goes both ways doesn’t it?
“this woman has become popular in less than a week…” what can I say, she was a GREAT PICK! it says that the America people would readily praise a woman that has worked hard to get to where she is and succeeded instead of worshiping a political hack that sided with corruption to get to where he is.
“People are raving how much they lover her, her kids…” they’re a lovable family that came from humble roots and kept living a normal life without attaching themselves with communists and racist preachers. I’ll even bet that they bought their house without the help of a convicted felon.
“what’s going on?” what’s going on is the end of the messiah and the end of the Democrat party’s fake principles of feminism, fighting for the little guys, etc.
we’d see a democrat party surge in maybe…after one generation.
Sep 6, 2008 - 4:15 am 17. cv:They are holding her out for a couple of days in hopes that the media is stupid enough to attack her again. Obama was going to try and ignore her but that only lasted one day. His internal poll numbers must look scary.

If Palin is an Eagleton or not..is still up in the air. We honestly don’t know. We suspect that McCain did a rush job selecting her when insiders rebelled at longtime domestic liberal Joe Lieberman, and didn’t vet her adequately.
is that the same rush job that catapulted Obama from a community organizer to presidential candidate?
Hometown newspaper not checked. Republican Party officials in Alaska not interviewed. McCains people got the story of her involvement in the “Bridge to Nowhere” and journeys to lobby for more earmarks for Alaska very wrong.
Learned of the daughters pregnancy the day before her “job offer” interview.
vetting process is up to the McCain campaign and not your’s or the media’s job. so long as the media failed to properly vett the empty suit they call a democrat presidential candidate, none can throw stones at how the McCain campaign vetted Gov. Palin.
the bridge to nowhere story is true. the earmarks for Wasilla is before Sarah Palin increased the Alaskan budget to have a surplus of $9 billion. when Gov. Palin fixed the budget and the corruption, I gurantee you that Wasilla won’t need the earmarks anymore. Gov. Palin saw corruption and fixed the problem. Obama say’s there’s a problem but only hopes to fix it.
Now we learn she bounced around 5 colleges before getting a journalism degree. None of the colleges say McCain people showed up with a Palin release to look at grades, reasons why she bailed from some universities after only a semester.(or was ASKED to bail).
what can I say, she did not go for affirmative action in an ivy league university. she did it on her own without help from any affirmative action or letters of recommendation from foreigners like Barry Soetero and Michelle Obama did.
Now the trooper is rumored, after Democrat attorneys showed up, willing to take a lie detector test to see if Gov Palin was telling the truth in her child custody deposition about “death threats ” she claimed she heard him make.
Right now, no one knows.
the trooper can take a lie detector all he wants. it’s not admissible. the death threats were real, Gov. Palin was not the only one who heard it. it also remains that the trooper should’ve been fired for using a taser on a child, drunk driving, and whatever else dubious acts he did. it’s not a secret that the trooper was a liability to the State.
We started with the Cult of Obamessiah and the Cult of the Eternally Suffering POW/MIA.
no, you, the democrats, and the leftwing media started the cult of Obamessiah. still looking for evidence that there’s a cult of the eternally suffering POW/MIA. as far as we can see, McCain is not as big a celebrity as the messiah.
Now we have conservatives, Religious Right, and various women now worshipping a woman they didn’t know existed a week ago. Call it the Cult of the Unknown Palin Madonna.
no, you got that all wrong, conservative only worship God. conservative admire Gov. Palin. The leftwingnuts and the leftwing media however, do worship the Obamessiah….I sort of remember them styrofoam greek columns at the temple of Obama, the Barackopolis, with his devoted followers worshipping him last week. oh, I don’t think Madonna would like her name next to Palin, to women like Madonna and the “feminists” Palin is not one of them….THANK GOD!
Biden doesn’t rate his own Cult
Biden’s cult is in his own mind. he’s such a great VP pick isn’t he? LOL!

Sep 6, 2008 - 5:42 am 20. Freedom's just another word..:Bridge to Nowhere - a Palin scandal?
The news is reporting that Palin “flip-flopped” on the Bridge to Nowhere, and never sent back the money. The source of these news storeis is a “Mayor Bob Weinstein” of Ketchikan, Alaska.
Bob Weinstein is an entrenched Democrat. He is Alaska’s longest serving Mayor.
Bob Weinstein also has an ax to grind against Sarah Palin.
In May 12, 2008, the Juneau Empire newspaper reported in the story, “Ketchikan mayor says bias shown in road plan” the following:
Ketchikan’s mayor, angry about the loss of the city’s infamous “Bridge to Nowhere,” is accusing the Juneau-based Department of Transportation and Public Facilities staff of bias against his project and being in favor of the Juneau Access Project. “It has been obvious to me for some time that the Southeast Region of DOT has an emotional commitment to the Juneau Access Project, and has been driving the project forward through the use of what appears to be inaccurate, incomplete and/or misleading information,” wrote Bob Weinstein, mayor of Ketchikan, in a March letter to DOT Commissioner Leo Von Scheben.
Palin gets nominated, an entrenched Democrat Mayor with an ax to grind against Palin starts a story, the liberal newspapers pick it up, and the Mayor’s accusations become “fact”.

Sep 6, 2008 - 5:49 am 22. jeff:I live in Chicago. Overheard conversations at a couple of tables last night. The libs are dreadfully scared of her. It is laughable what they are saying about her. On the other hand, all my conservative friends are calling me to see what they can do for McCain (put up a yard sign and write a check!)
so the base is energized.
Liberals are completely flabbergasted by this pick. They think that she was picked to go after Hillary voters. Some Hillary people will latch on to her. Many Hillary people are fans of the NOW type women’s movement that has been exposed as the left wing organization it is.
Gov. Palin shored up the base. It allows McCain to be a statesman. His speech, Joe Lieberman’s speech could only be described at statesmen like. They reached across party lines. Obama’s speech looks like a lightweight speech when you read it.
Gov. Palin knows how to compete! Compete she will! It was a brilliant pick by McCain.
Sep 6, 2008 - 5:55 am 23. Bob:As a voter for the McGovern-Shriver ticket (a once in a lifetime mistake), I remember well the problem that Eagleton’s nomination caused. Senator McGovern initially backed Eagleton, saying he was 1000% behind him. Soon thereafter, George had to dump Tom, and a Kennedy clan member. Eagleton was likable but his history of shock treatments for severe mental illness doomed his nomination and added to McGovern’s other problems. Nixon won 49 states and over 60% of the vote. Sarah is not mentally ill; she is a healthy, decent, energetic woman, who has stood for good government in a state plagued with corruption - although not as much as BHO’s Chicago. She’s a brilliant addition to the ticket that has gotten the Republican base fired up - which many of us were not before her selection.
Sep 6, 2008 - 6:03 am 24. Boyd:It is not a good idea to assume that there could be nothing out there that might ruin Palin’s run at the VP. McCain, like everyone in public office, had to investigate her. Was his investigation thourgouh enough? Hard to say, but since the speculation is on it might pay to look at what is likely. Eagleton/McGovern took place in 1972. Before alternate media, before the internet. THE difference here is that politicions of that day had a pretty good chance of keeping their skeletons locked away out of sight. It was a gamble he took knowing that the revelation of his medical history would doom him. Today it is difficult to imagine anyone thinking they can slip past something that would even remotely rise to that level. The result is that few politicions would even try. I believe this actually improves the atmosphere of politics. It made Obama cop to having snorted a little coke 20 years ago and got that issue off the table - as it should have - so we can all concentrate on what matters. The down side is that a biased and hypocritical media can and is just manufacturing issues about Palin. Time will tell whether that works for or against them and their side.
Sep 6, 2008 - 6:47 am 25. Elise:Sara palin is a great all American woman and mother. She is the greatest Govenor in Alaska history with a 80 percent approval rateing. Obama has no accomplishments other than close associations with criminals terrorists, communists and racists. He is a arrogant blowhard with no fruit. The media has made their pick. Real Americans outside the blue blood elite have made theirs. Thank God Sara will be presaident soon
Sep 6, 2008 - 7:32 am 26. Fallon:As the Republican VP candidate seems to, more often than not, be compared with the Democratic presidential candidate; I would offer up that Obama has just as much of a chance of being the next Eagleton as Governor Palin does.
If the press would balance their investigations towards all candidates, and maybe delve deeper into the dark recesses of Chicago politics, there most likely is more to unearth on Obama than anyone else on either ticket. Obama may, in fact, be the next Eagleton. He is already stressing out regarding the addition of Governor Palin to McCain’s ticket and the continued interest in the Chicago Annenburg Challenge.
Sep 6, 2008 - 7:37 am 27. Wendy:Agter watching Cindy McCain on the Republican convention, I am impressed with her powerful loving life and accomplishments. Here are a few questions for Senator Obama:
1. Are you really black? If you are less than 12.5% of a minority group, under U.S. law, you can not legally claim this minority status. Did you ever gain personal advantage by applying for a position, school or complete any official government document claiming you were black? http://kennethelamb.blogspot.com/2008/02/barak-obama-questions-about-ethnic.html
2. Have you ever traveled to another country on a non-U.S. passport?
3. Did you ever socialize, fraternize or associate yourself with known felons or unrepentant terrorists?
4. When exactly did you stop using illegal drugs? Have you submitted to a drug test recently?

Sep 6, 2008 - 8:18 am 34. HRPKathy:For those claiming malfeasance or the possibility lurking of malfeasance of Governor Palin, allow me to point out the difference between the east and the west, between small towns and big cities.
Out west, good fences make good neighbors. What does that mean? It means know your own business and keep out of mine.
Small towns have a greater accountability than cities. You are known and people are watching what you do. Very little is secret. Here’s an example:
I had just moved from a large city to a small town. My daughter played softball on the junior league, and when we were out running errands hours before her game, someone slammed into the side of my car when changing lanes and forced me into a telephone pole. We were shaken up, but not hurt. Later in the day when we arrived at her softball game, the girls all came running up: “Are you OK. We heard you’d been in a car accident!” I was astonished. It had been ‘telegraphed’ all over town. I never go to a restaurant or store without seeing people I know, and we ask about each other’s families. We mind our own business, be we know each other.
Governor Palin started out as Mayor of Wasilla where she grew up. Everyone knew her or of her. Trust me, in a town like that if her character or her achievements were at all shady she would never have gone any further than the PTA. It’s also why I think she will survive the scrutiny and why the press had better watch out listening to disgruntled people who have an axe to grind. Taking the side of the Mayor of Ketchikan for example, makes it look like the media thinks Alaska should have the Bridge to Nowhere.
The people who have crossed her have some really nasty underwear of their own, already ruined, are hardly credible with the ‘dirt’ they have on Palin. They have as much credibility as Bill Burkett and the ‘anonymous woman at Kinkos’ of raTHergate fame.
The ’smallness’ of Alaska gives me confidence that Palin will survive scrutiny because she has lived under scrutiny all of her life.
Back to the western idea of fences and privacy - the media has crossed over that fence and passed the sign that read:
Sep 6, 2008 - 8:23 am 35. Ed Wallis:Boyd - 6:47am: “It is not a good idea to assume that there could be nothing out there that might ruin Palin’s run at the VP. McCain, like everyone in public office, had to investigate her. Was his investigation tho(u)r(g)ou[g]h enough?”
“Boyd,” assuming you are sincere and NOT just another mindless Zerobama infestation, yes, of course, “we will see.” No one sees into the future. But the direct implication of your exact words is, quite simply said, is to put a big, bright, shiny spotlight on the utter lack of “investigation” into Obama and his questionable past.
So, THANK YOU, the question you pose is a good one. It also leads to asking others which are to the best interest of The United States of America….
Sep 6, 2008 - 8:25 am 36. Red Blooded American:Ed Wallis, John Samford: you say she doesn’t need to answer any questions? Because Obama gets a free pass from the MSM. Even though he answers questions virtually every day. You’re right though, Sarah Palin is a star, perhaps now “the biggest celebrity on the planet.” I thought you though that was a bad thing. Oh wait, now it’s a good thing. Oh, I see. It’s good when you need it to be good and bad when you need it to be bad. Me, I’ll reserve judgement. I’d like to hear her answer a few questions before coronation. And I’d like some evidence that she understands and will support and defend the constitution of the U.S. Ever heard of it?

Ummm being that she has only been named for one week what do you expect? Do you expect her to rush out the next day an get interviewed by the pro-Obama news media before doing her homework on John McCain’s positions? Remember she is running for vice-President so it is not the same as her spouting off her own personal beliefs on issues.
However, she has answered questions. She answered many of the radical left questions during her speech. She is for victory in the war, she is pro-life even for special need kids, she is pro-life even when the baby’s mother is a teenager, she anti big government, anti-tax increases, and host of other things.
And she will answer even more in the future so go back to the your left-wing den and come up with another line of attack.

Sep 6, 2008 - 8:43 am 40. tanstaafl:Then I took along look at Mrs. Obama. I do not see love, joy or hope for us or this world in her.
She can not hold up to Cindy McCain in any thing or in any way. I hope you and others like my shelf will want a first Lady like Cindy McCain. So pleases take long look at you up ans coming frist Lady!
I don’t understand the phenomenon of trying to diminish (aka “diss”) somebody through comparison with people with whom the potential “dissee” has had no relationship, no contact and (possibly) even no knowledge.
In short, attempting to say Sarah Palin is Tom Eagleton, Dan Quayle, Geraldine Ferraro or (God forbid) any member of the sisterhood of the traveling pantsuit
seems to me…well…very dumb.
Sep 6, 2008 - 8:43 am 41. Marina:Sarah will be a great President. No questions about that anymore.
But what about Biden? What if he will die? Two aneurismas, c’mon! Who’ll be Obama’s next VP?
Imagine Hillary! That’ll be a sweet couple, I already imagine their common name: THE ALINSKYS (because Hillary’s thesis is not sealed anymore, unlike Obama’s one btw).
But I can suppose someone even “better”. In his comment to the NPC (Apr 28, 2008) Rev. JEREMIA WHIGHT was asked whether G-d wants Obama to be the President and answered: “I OFFER MYSELF FOR THE VICE-PRESIDENT, NOT FOR THE CANDIDACY OF GOD”. It’s all on the YouTube: “Reverend Jeremiah Wright National Press Club pt.6″, just at the end. He had already mentioned his vice-presidency before, on the same event, but I’ve forgotten in what part, all the 6 are available on the Tube.
And it’s an illusion Wright is politically dead. He waits. And if Obama becomes the President, who or what will stop him from picking Wright as a VP? Impeachment? The Dem party was in love with Wright even (especially ?) after the GDA.
The fact that Wright repeats it (and not joking) proves he and Obama actually discussed the matter and agreed on it. Wright is exactly the same Alinsky’s community organizer as Obama himself. That’ll be the sweetest couple in the world. The real ALINSKYS.
The scenario is weird, scary, but not totally impossible.
Sep 6, 2008 - 8:48 am 42. Herb:G-d save and bless America!
Sorry, Ronnie, but you have some seriously flawed formulations in your comment. “Pro-Obama media,” for one. No doubt there are some in the media who are Pro-Obama. But there are also Pro-McCain media outlets, and Palin isn’t talking to those either. How come she doesn’t want to be interviewed by the Pro-McCain media? Surely Chris Wallace can throw her a few softballs she can knock out of the park, no?
And then there’s this one: “the radical left.” No doubt it’s “radical” to you, but there’s the “left” and then there’s the “radical left.” Say what you will about the Democrats and the American left, but the comintern they ain’t.

Sep 6, 2008 - 9:09 am 46. Ken:Squirm, squirm, squirm. I love to see libs squirm… Lets start with experience. We will gladly match Palin against Obama any day of the week. She has been a Mayor. She took on corruption in her state, which led to the chairman of her own party receiving a fine for several thousand dollars. She beat the incumbent and a Dem to become Governor of Alaska. She is Commander In Chief of the Alaska National Guard, the only guard in the nation that is not part time. They are charged with security of strategic missle defence for the entire nation. Can anyone out there tell me three things, no lets make it easy, ANYTHING Obama has done to qualify him to be President. He has never defined what his role was as a community organizer. He has not accomplished anything in the Senate. He didn’t have the courage to challenge anything. He voted present more than 80% of the time. What is that. He has not taken on corrution in his own party ( the first thing needed for either candidate to actually change anything in Wsahington, and by the way McCain has made a career of this) Then Obama picks a total Washington insider as his running mate. Where is the change in that pick. The libs are making such a big thing out of Palins daughter getting prgnant. how about reading Obamas first book where he defines in great detail how he spent his late teen years in a haze from cocain, pot and alcohol. here is the biggest problem for you Dim Libs out there. Over 60% of this country identify themselves as conservative. Although most are unhappy with GW’s overall performance and would likely vote for a moderate Demcrat. You blew it by nominating the most liberal of all the senate over Hillary. So you will see plenty of Palin over the next several years in Washington. And thats the real cherry in all of this. Palin now answers the only thing that made Hillary unique, her gender. Squirm on now libs……
Sep 6, 2008 - 9:26 am 47. tanstaafl:People just grab things off of sites like Daily Kos (like the vile falsehoods circulating last weekend about Bristol Palin), flog them, and copy them into other sites, like this one.
It’s part of the LeftWing winning strategy.
Altho’ John McCain has said some…dicey…things in his life, I would be highly suspect that the Chelsea Clinton quotation is one of them.

Sep 6, 2008 - 9:44 am 50. Mike Shuster:Re: Obama and anti-corruption, what’s so small-potatoes about The Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act, which he co-authored (with a republican I believe) and got passed in 2006? It’s not the sexiest piece of legislation, but it’s been pretty useful in tracking pork-barrel spending.
And speaking of pork-barreling, it’s funny. One of the reasons Palin is so popular as Alaska governor has been because she’s been very effective in getting earmarks for her state. In fact a lot of her spending proposals have ended up on McCain’s annual list of evil Congressional earmarks. Which isn’t a reason not to vote for the ticket, necessarily, but it’s kind of ironic. She’s spent a lot of time in Alaska boasting about her ability to wrest federal funds– exactly the kind of practice the McCain / Palin ticket is making so much noise about ending.
In any case, I don’t think it’s too hard to be a popular governor when you’re in a state with something like a $5 billion budget surplus and you send $1200 oil bonus checks to every resident.
None of which directly speaks to her qualifications or lack thereof, but it’s the kind of thing people should keep in mind. (And despite all the silly noise about Bristol, etc., I really do wish the McCain campaign would give journalists more access to ask questions to her about these meat-and-potatoes kind of governance issues)
Sep 6, 2008 - 10:04 am 51. Ronnie:Herb,
It is a fact that the media is pro-Obama, even members of their own staff(e.g. Lou Dobbs, Joe Scarbrough )and other democrats(i.e. Hillary Clinton’s entire campaign team) are starting to speak out. Of course I didn’t mean every single news organization was pro-Obama, but instead I was speaking of the overwhelming majority. Furthermore, if you would have kept reading you would have realized that I did say she would eventually confront these wolves. It has only been 1 week so chill out.
As far as the radical-left, the left, and Democrats are concerned there is not much distinction between the three. For example the DailyKos is about as radical as you can get, but almost the entire leadership in the Democratic party participate not only that board, but also their conferences. The Democratic party is being heavily influence not only by this group but by others such as MoveOn. Your party even nominated the extreme liberal Obama is another vindication of that fact.

The whole point of my post was to agree with the author by pointing out that it is extremely unlikely that ANY politician (that would include Obama) will ever have an Eagleton moment since they know the level of fact checking available to their opponents. Fact checking that was not available in Eagleton’s time. As to the mis-spellings I like to leave a few in just to smoke out the anal retentives and mindless Paliniacs.
Sep 6, 2008 - 10:12 am 53. Javelin:Ed,
and what exactly does a right wing droid like you know about her except what your talk show hosts and bloggers told you to think?
Just wondering, she is supposed to be such a libertarian yet she tried to ban books as a mayor, as well as being anti-abortion? After all, we here so much about those dreaded liberal fascists, yet she tried to ban some books. Like the same way we hear so much about terrible college radicals shouting down speakers from the same moral degenerates who seem to forget or approve that Bush-baby had Kerry supporters arrested and ejected from his rallies in 2004, using the police and Secret Service no less. Oh yeah, “American Carol” is opening, where are all the Liberal Brownshirts, shoudn’t they be busy burning movie copies and threatening theater owners? Jonah Goldberg, where are you? Hilarious.
Here’s a clue, republicans are individualists. We believe in individual liberties, for everyone including those without votes and voices (the unborn), and we celebrate individuals achievements by not robbing their earnings - ‘for the village’.
Meanwhile the left is AOK with the brownshirt brigade called our media. LOL.
Here’s the problem for the ‘book banning’ accusers - for all the Christophobes out there - She’s been governor for two years, where are the books? Still on the library shelves….
I think there’s a boogey man video out there about her praying for the troops - sorry secularists - but every leader does that. Every one.
Only some don’t mean it. Is that why you like Barry - he doesn’t mean it?
Authenticity, baby. Republicans have it and democrats have two posers.
And the ‘tasteless joke’ critics - haha haha ha - democrats have no sense of humor.

Sep 6, 2008 - 11:07 am 61. Mike Boyce:It really is a lot of fun watching and listening to Obama-supporters fumble their way through this. They are so convinced in their minds that their way is the way that everyone must think that to have their apple cart upset is beyond their grasp. What really gets them is that a women doesn’t need the left-wing liberal establishment to get ahead and move upwards and onwards…women can actually do it on their own through values, convictions, commitment, hard work and all that other “stuff” that made America great and which the left has been trying to remove and devalue since the 1960’s. It’s a shock to their system and they don’t quite know how to react.
It will be very intersting to see how this debate plays out, as Sarah Palin gets into substantive issues and debates over the next 60 days. That will be where both liberals and conservatives and the undecided will have the opportunity to assess Sarah Palin on the issues and facts, not on personal attacks, slander and slights.
Sep 6, 2008 - 11:09 am 62. Mike:that McCain joke about Chelsea Clinton is for real. To his credit, he apologized for it, if I recall.

I used to keep that sign on my office door. Lived out West many years (not there now and I sometimes miss it). It’s about time for the common sense of our frontiersmen to come to the fore with practical solutions and integrity. It’s kryptonite for the Obamabots.
I love how all these elites are horrified that Gov. Palin can hunt and fish for food. They probably talk about her when selecting whether to have beef or chicken at lunch. The cow or the chicken didn’t even have a sporting chance.

Being obnoxious and “radical” are not the same thing. DailyKos may want national healthcare and Democrats in office, but I doubt they’d support the overthrow of the capitalistic Bourgeoisie in favor of a state monopoly on power.
Are you even aware how hyperbolic you are being?
Sep 6, 2008 - 11:38 am 67. Red Blooded American:Mike Boyce:
Exactly right sir. Let’s assess the candidates on the basis of issues and facts. That is the true spirit of democracy.
The liberal/conservative mutual vitriol goes back to the first days of the republic, not just the 60s however. Jefferson was called worse than we have heard in this campaign by his detractors on the right (e.g., Hamilton) whose Federalist party was the ancestor of today’s Republican. The building of infrastructure throughout the 19th century was assailed as a waste of money, even though it allowed the development of the country and the creation of vast wealth. Their have been corporate welfare espousing empty suit Republicans (Taft, Coolidge) and professorial silver-tounged Democrats (Wilson, Stevenson) long before the 60s or the current electoral cycle and each side has demonized the other. This blog is a perfect example of the tendency to want to demonize the Wilson/FDR/JFK tradition just as the right wing did in other eras. And the accusation that the MSM is in the pocket of your political enemy is nothing new either. History moves in fits and starts and so far in the USA we have avoided the total demonization of the press and intellectuals as has happened in other countries at other times (Germany, China). I only hope that those of you who shout down your opposition, declare candidates need not answer questions due to the biases of the questioners, and lose no opportunity to caricature the other side with every manner of demonstrable slander, will at least admit that the right to engage in debate is a strength of our system and not a weakness.
Sep 6, 2008 - 11:44 am 68. Boyd:“I only hope that those of you who shout down your opposition, declare candidates need not answer questions due to the biases of the questioners, and lose no opportunity to caricature the other side with every manner of demonstrable slander, will at least admit that the right to engage in debate is a strength of our system and not a weakness.”
Excellent, RBA. Those of us still in the sane middle (the ones who here avoid the all caps, bold, underline and italic bit) are in the fortunate position of deciding elections. That is clearly as it should be. God Bless America.
Sep 6, 2008 - 11:55 am 69. Ed Wallis:Based on other posts of yours, “Boyd” and “RedBloodedAmi”, NEITHER of you represent “the sane middle” but are rather frauds who are wearing rather pathetically transparent masks.

(On a side note…) Oh my! I’ve used “caps” and italics…I’m soooooo baaaaaaddd…rats! Did it again!
heh.
Sep 6, 2008 - 12:12 pm 70. Boyd:QED Ed, QED.
Sep 6, 2008 - 1:27 pm 71. Red Blooded American:Ed Wallis: Could you enlighten me as to what “the sane middle” is. You called me a fraud. I won’t respond in kind, what’s the point after all, but I will say that I am putting out my own ideas and not parroting anyone else’s and you won’t find me calling people names. I’d really like to know what you think about “the sane middle” and where you define yourself in relationship to it. Let’s hear it, unless your answer is not an answer but instead more name-calling and invective.
I think John McCain has been a part of the sane middle by the way, for most of his career at least, and my main concerns about him are how he will really perform under intense pressure. The right wing of the Republican party mistrusts him because they think he was psychologically traumatized while a POW and is therefore prone to reacting emotionally and unpredictably. I can see why the right is much more interested in talking about Palin than they are about McCain.
Sep 6, 2008 - 1:35 pm 72. George Clarke:Though Palin denies trying to get her brother-in-law fired, (a claim the alleged target of the attempt, the commissioner of public safety agrees with)how is firing, or trying to fire a police officer who tasers your 10 year old nephew, and then threatens your father with death if he protects his daughter, and threatens to use his official side-arm to commit that murder for self-interested reasons, How would that be unethical if Palin did it. And she certainly did not do it, and there is scant evidence that she tried to do and plenty of witnesses deny she did anything. But I still ask, how would it have been unethical? Clearly, it would not be and anyone who thinks it would be unethical is an idiot who knows nothing of ethics. Keeping official firearms out the hands of self-announced murderer wanna-bes is not in anyone’s selfish interest. It is in the public interest, precisely what public servants are supposed to do.
Sep 6, 2008 - 1:49 pm 73. Sherman:Palin is a very likeable person, as least for what we can see on TV. However, it is amazing that McCain chose a candidate for VP that has so little experience.
While it is refreshing to see a likeable, small town woman on the ticket, it is horrifying to think that she could someday be the commander in chief, given the fact that Palin has no experience in high level federal government or foreign affairs.
Sep 6, 2008 - 2:14 pm 74. SuznAZ:Geesh but I hope they keep Palin on the ticket! She’s the best thing to happen to the Democratic party in a long time. The more I read about this woman, not from the pundits (and did someone here really cite Michelle Malkin as a reputable source? lol) but from people in Alaska who have been acquainted with her for years, the more puzzling it becomes that the party faithful don’t see beyond the soundbite image. Do your homework folks…and that doesn’t mean just listening to Fox & the pundits.
Sep 6, 2008 - 2:20 pm 75. WILLIAM BENSON:someone said sarah was cramming for her debate,..well this isn’t college, why should she have to cram if she’s such an accomplished politician? this is the real world, and having a bachelor’s degree in journalism isn/t nearly enough academic preparation to run this country, but i guess she’s a reflection of those that support her… backwoods folk, uneducated, living in out-houses, and killing bush-meat to eat… palin is just trailer-trash, plain and simple.
Sep 6, 2008 - 2:27 pm 76. Ed Wallis:SuznAZ: Your condescention is charmingly meaningless. But thanks for playing!
WILLIAM BENSON: Your description of those who support Gov. Palin seems to reflect a tragic case of “projection.”
O’bots…or fish in a barrel?
Sep 6, 2008 - 2:36 pm 77. Tom:William benson - sounds like you have some issues to resolve, that have nothing to do with politics. If your goal is to be offensive, you’ve succeeded, if your goal is to persuade, then your blog was a waste of your time
Sep 6, 2008 - 2:40 pm 78. gldnldy:William Benson, your words show the utter ignorance of someone from the America-hating, out-of-touch, liberal, elitist, radicalism-loving establishment. Your ilk used to say Republicans were just racist, white rich men, and the Democratic party was the one who cared for the disadvantaged, the poor, the minorities, the women. Now your true colors come out. You’re a bunch of phony hypocrites. You cast aspersions at someone who is a hardworking careerist and mother, has family problems like the rest of society and is a woman who stood up to corruption. She should be a champion to the Democratic party. Instead, you say these vicious statements about Palin simply because she’s a Republican running for VP. You’d never say those horrible things about a Democrat, living with her parents or her boyfriend in a trailer, out of work, had several abortions and on welfare.
Sep 6, 2008 - 3:16 pm 79. gldnldy:ic: He is Ugly, plain and simple. There are a LOT of good-looking black men, but he is NOT one of them. Whoever is saying he’s good-looking is either blind, stupid or feeling guilty for past history. She, on the other hand, is absolutely beautiful, especially after having 5 kids.
Sherman: “Palin has no experience in high level federal government or foreign affairs.” Well, Jimmy Carter was a 1st term governor and had only been in the Georgia senate when he ran for the presidency. But, of course, in yours and other liberals’ distorted and hypocritical sexist way of thinking, Carter is a male and a Democrat, so his lack of high level federal government or foreign affairs experience shouldn’t matter.
Sep 6, 2008 - 3:27 pm 80. Jephnol:“…i guess she’s a reflection of those that support her… backwoods folk, uneducated, living in out-houses, and killing bush-meat to eat… palin is just trailer-trash, plain and simple.”
Classism? Coming from the holier-than-thou left? Say it ain’t so! But this should come as no suprise I guess, considering the sexism being spewed by so many of the progressive to visit these threads. And might I add, the vitriol reserved for Palin’s Christian beliefs fly’s in the face of the left’s cherished multi-culturalism.
Okay we get it… Go girl (unless you have different beliefs than us); We are for the common people (except the uneducated and the rural who we will mock relentlessly); We celebrate diversity (unless your beliefs come into contention with our own).
Could you possibly have any more hypocrisy to spare. Oh yeah, you question Palin’s experience to be VP while the top of your ticket has no practical executive experience.
Sep 6, 2008 - 3:58 pm 81. DAP:I was more than tepid about McCain prior to his selection of Palin. Having lived in Arizona and watched the “maverick” play footsey with the MSM and Democrats always made me queasy. Palin’s selection changed it all for me. I am satisfied with the vetting process. The MSM is not happy because they didn’t get to participate.
Sep 6, 2008 - 4:36 pm 82. George Clarke:The so called Obamabots here who quote Salon and other lefty sites are fools and are prime examples of the group speak of the left. Yes McCain has said some stupid things in his life, after all of us have at one time or another. He had the grit to apologize for it and without any prodding from anyone but his own conscience. That shows character as does his service and sacrifice to this country.
Our friends on the left are terrified of people who have real character. Palin has it and so does McCain, its now up to them and their supporters to get through all of the obfuscation, lies and propaganda and convince the American people. The ill-liberal left will be shrill but that is all they have. They don’t let the facts get in the way of Ideology. Ideology is all there is and they will use facts, lies, or what ever they must to damage or destroy anyone who disagrees with them, no matter how eloquent they are or how their facts support them.
The main reason I will be voting McCain/Palin is not that I am enamored of McCain, but of Palin and her not being from Washington. The other big one is they are both not lawyers, they are real people not elitists. My friends on the left keep up the good work you are really making the case for middle America, you know those rubes that don’t think like you.
SuznAZ:
In the interests of full disclosure, what are the problems with Palin her friends have flagged? I haven’t heard anything meaningful yet, and I am surprised the pirhana pool would have withheld the really meaningful stuff so far. What are you talking about? Please.
Sep 6, 2008 - 4:50 pm 83. Judy Biden:Obama can not speak with out a teleprompter. When he does he just shows that he is a a well without water. If he needs a telepromter to speak obviously he is a puppet for no other than George Soros and foreign middle east operatives who have poured millions into his campaign with small donations that do not have to be reported (under $25). Where is the media on this. Of course they are still waiting to report on Rizzo bribes to buy obamas home. William Ayers the terrorist and others. You are judged by the company you keep. Obama is a snake under the rocks of a left wing liberal homosexual press that want their lifestyle forced on you.
Sep 6, 2008 - 5:21 pm 84. Carol:That is why Hilliary would not run with Him! She told me on a flight to DC that he has homosexual issues that will come out of the closet and a whole lot of blackmailers who are mad and will get even. That is why he is a puppet. They are controlling his strings. What a breath of fresh air Sara Palin is. I spoke with her on a flight to Phoenix last year and she is a miracle and a great person who is straight as a arrow.
Sep 6, 2008 - 5:29 pm 85. chicago:again, we see the Obamatons, lemmings that they are, come back time and again with their ellitist comments on Gov. Palin’s education, their “nuanced” comments about the political process, and their attempst to belittle conservatives.
one would think that they would try to at least attempt not to look elitist since their party has been claiming to be fighting for the “masses.” no, they now start belittling a governor that took matters in her own hand in terms of getting a college education. the elitists see that as a negative, while the majority of the real blue collar folks that “grow our food, work in the factories, and fight our wars” see Sarah Palin’s struggle to get a higher education as the same struggle as they or their children is going through. the silent majority who doesn’t benefit from affirmative action like Barry Soetero and Michelle Obama did can relate to the hardship the Sarah Palin went through when she worked hard to get her degree on her own.
so, after everything is said and done, the elitist democrats continue to nuance their way into the faux pas that they should continue to be the bearers of the leadership mantle of America since a governor that didn’t go to an Ivy League school doesn’t deserve to be in national office. this proves Sarah Palin right when she said that we don’t need a candidate that “talks one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco.” (OMG, I used italics! LOL!)
the democrats are still in denial that their claim of being “for” the little guy had just been blown away by a candidate that ACTUALLY CAME (OMG, I used capitals LOL!) from the so called “little guys” silent majority. let alone the fact that Sarah Palin single handedly killed the feminism argument of the by pointing out that feminism simply means liberalism.
many democrats are still in denial. many claim not to see the media bias, even though 51% of the country thinks so….well, that proves that democrats are really not the majority in this country. the true elitist principles of the democrats have unfolded in front of the entire country and the backlash is growing.
Sep 6, 2008 - 6:29 pm 86. Arjunahawaii:I was not going to vote at all this election - wasn’t happy with McCain and I genuinely believed Americans had become fat and lazy and didn’t understand anymore that freedom is NOT free … I thought we were due for some serious time in the wilderness in order to get our bearings back.
BUT … McCain has become interesting. This pick of Sarah Palin was absolutely a stroke of genius on his part. I think he knew the left would go after her like rabid dogs and I think he knew it would cause fair-minded Americans to rally around her - and by extension - him.
I think he knew the pick would cause BHO to “run” against the VP pick - and in a head to head comparison - HER resume is STRONGER than his - which simply highlights BHO’s glaring lack of experience when compared to McCain.
Simply genius. We have to vote for this man - with him in the oval office - the political scene over the next four years is going to be exciting!
And Sarah Palin could well be the next Ronald Reagan - if the media keeps bashing her - and let’s hope they do.
Also - if you’ll notice … Delay, Gingrich … REPUBLICAN MEN … seeing this woman so stoically stand up to the liberal firestorm - and HITTING BACK - have become inspired to FIGHT!
She is truly a new age “Joan of Arc” … she inspires the base to FIGHT - and that is exactly what we needed!
Sep 6, 2008 - 7:44 pm 87. Roark:She ought to have thought more of her kids instead taking this job. What the hell happened to traditional conservative values of mom’s caring for their children. The working mother is the liberal women’ wet dream.
Sep 6, 2008 - 8:09 pm 88. Dave II:One thing I realized after watching FoxNews special tonight about Sarah Palin is her ability to INSPIRE people to do their best and what is right.
Sure, people have said that about Obama…but exactly HOW does Obama do this? Through his soring oratory and teleprompter skills! NOT his actions!
Now plenty of people fall for that…no doubt, but does it last and is it REAL? You can say the “inspiration” from a speech is real…but what is a speech other than mere words? And when we look at the accomplishments or the some guiding principles to back up those words…we see little if anything noteworthy. NO life experience in an executive DECISION-making position, (oh, except for the failed Annenberg Challenge and his own campaign! LOL!) and no PRINCIPLES that he sticks to if it means going AGAINST his own party or the powers that be around him. Voting “present” 130 times in the state senate, and voting WITH the party line 96% of the time in a Congress with a 9% approval rating is HARDLY going against the grain in Washington or being an agent of “change”. Check it out here, it’s all true:
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/110/senate/party-voters/
Getting back to Palin…you can see her style and the principles she governs by in these videos. It’s the difference between someone with TRUE RESPONSIBILITIES and decision-making skills…and someone who gets to decide to vote “Yes” or “No” on someone else’s bill…or not even vote at ALL by being absent or voting present. This is TRUE leadership:

Sep 6, 2008 - 9:02 pm 90. Elise:Somehow, people here are so juvenile. They think that someone from the country is going to waltz in and change everything like some corny Jimmy Stewart movie. This sounds like a redux of 2000, you know that stupid little preppy who played cowboy and hung around with snake handlers, was going to change Washington with honesty, opennerss and unite us all? Guess what people, the urban elites might be full of it and pretensious and there are geniuses who drive cabs, but just because someone is from a small town doesn’t make them a paragon of virtue, a genius or even competent. We are talking about someone who supports Creatiionism and compares herself to a dumb animal who attacks innocent people by biting through legs.
You are judged by the company you keep. Looking at Obama and Biden you see Tony Rizo who is convicted in jail, William Ayers the bomber, Rev. Wright and Farakahn the racist. The liberal media who slanders a all american woman Sara Palin and her 17 year old daughter. Then attacks her qualifications which means they are attacking all women. Obama cant speak with out a teleprompter which means someone else is telling him what to say. Sara Palin has a 80 percent approval rateing by hundred of thousands who put their stamp of approval on her. Now the entire country approves of her. The Democrat party has been taken over by socialists and the insane. Their idea of a qualified woman is a hard core lesbian! The Bible sums it up They are evil haters of God and despisers good.
Sep 6, 2008 - 9:14 pm 91. Javelin:Elise, how did they slander her daughter, by reporting she was pregnant? Your comment about lesbians really reveals what a contemptible priggish fool you are, you ugly witch. Also, are you so stupid and gullible that you think Sarah Palin is God, you Bible quoting geek? You are the ultimate God hating idolatrous pig by holding up a mere mortal like Palin as God, then slandering her critics as evil. Your moral degeneracy is so syptomatic of the ego and the stupidity of today’s ditto head right.
Sep 6, 2008 - 9:32 pm 92. Rachel Peepers:Sarah Palin. Ain’t she something else?
To me, The Republican Party, a month ago, was a fairly lackluster bunch; like a spring with hardly a coil. A pop-goes-the-weasel kid’s toy with no,”Pop.” A ball without the bounce.
Then along came Sarah.
And all of a sudden the dream had some drive.
Then the Democrats, to put it kindly, overreacted.
Over confidant and under-moraled,BO and the boys made the mistake that’ll haunt them till the day their dreams die.
The Barack “Yes we can” goon patrol showed they’re capable of just about anything.
On a silver platter, they handed the Main-Steam Media viscous, below the belt, unfair, unconscienable and unfounded Palin attack points.
Apparently, Barack and his band of brazen buddies never heard of a boomerang.
For when the sexist, reckless,loathesome,
venal, lamentable, private, personal, evil, feeble, senseless, baseless attacks hit the mainstream media’s airwaves, bounced off their satellites and swept across the info. superhighway, something amazing happened.
The basic decency and fairness of the American people exploded in the face of the Democratic Party.
Instead of destroying the woman who loves her family and country; who serves it with honor and dignity, Barack’s politics of smear and slime and personal destruction caused a backlash of Biblical proportions.
If Sarah Palin’s selection for Vice President was the fire her party needed, Barack and his henchmen made the cataclysmic mistake of throwing gasoline on it.
Their dark, disgusting tactics bit them in the butt. Backfired bigtime. Now they’re licking their wounds.
Perhaps, Barack and his merry men are finding out, albeit, the hard way, some extremely important facts not really of politics, but of life.
That harm invites help.
Cruelty invites compassion.
That the desire to destroy in the end succeeds only in sewing the seeds of ones own destruction.
America. I love you.
Sep 6, 2008 - 9:42 pm 93. Javelin:HRPKathy, you are a droid, you have not one orignal thought of your own, your blog proves that. Fact is, Palin did try to ban those books and she wants to teach Creationism, so I guess you are a cretin who supports that. BTW, I am Jewish and I also despise with a passion geeks who inject their little cracker religion into a debate to gain high ground. Anyone who takes crude, insult spewers like Levin or Malkin seriously can’t be considered very tasteful or intelligent. You are the epitome of right wing group-think, but are too stupid and self absorbed in your insult and cliche ridden world view to notice that.
Sep 6, 2008 - 9:48 pm 94. Javelin:BTW: I haven’t read any leftwing blogs or even opinion pieces about Palin, but I do know she is not the earmark buster McCain made her out to be either. I could care less about her randy daughter.

Sep 6, 2008 - 10:11 pm 95. Jeff:”
I thought I would take peeper’s drivel and rework it a bit, after all, you all love to torment Barack so much. Once again, for people who constantly claim that Barack thinks he is a messiah, you now think Palin is God.
Newsflash to all of you extreme conservatives, had that been a Democratic running ticket with a pregnant teenage daughter, who is not even married yet, you all would have denounced the Democratic Party as having a total lack of family values.
I am a true Independent who’s been seeing alot of double standard here at play. I truly see all of the close-mindedness at this RNC for praising a conservative woman who stands for abstinence before marriage, yet cannot even teach that to her very own daughter.
As far as the MSM is concerned, had that been a situation with the Democratic running ticket, they would had broadcast that in just the same fashion. No party is above questions or scrutiny when it is outside of the norm. I see alot of scrutiny in all of the articles and commentaries within this website directed towards the left but oh God, if anything negative is directed towards the right, they are animals. One must realize hypocracy before passing judgement.
Sep 6, 2008 - 10:47 pm 96. How Insane Is John McCain?:Given the number of Sarah Palin scandals, how can you be so sure?
Sep 6, 2008 - 11:14 pm 97. chicago:for all the moral indignation that Obamatons are spewing right now against republicans and conservatives, the only thing that clearly shows their lack of judgment is that fact that Obama rose in that political ranks by siding with corruption. there is no other argument for the case of John McCain and Sarah Palin that is more powerful than that.
for liberals to accept a political hack that is a product of a corrupt political machine as a savior or reformer or the agent of change is the epitome of their hypocrisy.
you can wash Obama in lavander to make him smell good, cover him in gold and silver, offer up gold, frankincense, and myrhh, preach that he will push back the tides and heal the planet, underneath it all is a rusty crooked political hack that only has a silver tongue.
Obama can’t hide the fact that his rise to political prominence is based on a foundation of corruption. while some may resist looking at the truth of his origins, many will see, and are now seeing beyond the theatrics and rhetoric, and will not vote for what he really stand for - corruption and deception.

Sep 7, 2008 - 12:03 am 100. Robert Stacy McCain:Just like to weigh in and point out that, brutally contentious as this discussion might be, at least the choice of Palin has got people talking, eh?
On the Republican side, at least, she’s generated an astonishing level of excitement — more than 10,000 have showed up for every rally since she joined the ticket, and Zogby says McCain now has a double-digit lead among Catholics.

You have one candidate, who is denounced by the conservatives solely by association, and left his church for good, by the way. Then you have another candidate, who still has a list of scandals that she must face such as the Troopergate incident along with her pregnant teen daughter before marriage, yet she is defended by even our conservative evangelical base.
As a religious and faithful country, have we come to a point where we cannot practice what we preach? Have we come to a point where we should look the other way only when it is convenient for us? One should realize hypocrisy before really passing judgment and we as a nation, should always do what is objectively right.

Sep 7, 2008 - 1:52 am 107. chicago:Ok, let’s break this down:
We are faced with a major dilemma in America in that, in the eyes of one conservative, another can do no wrong. But once a liberal even remotely makes that same mistake, he or she is denounced. I am seeing this clearly from an Independent and neutral mind.
it’s not the mistake that people condemns in liberals, its the hypocrisy that liberals wrap themselves with. and, you’re hardly neutral mind, and you’re hardly seeing things clearly and independently.
You have one candidate, who is denounced by the conservatives solely by association, and left his church for good, by the way. Then you have another candidate, who still has a list of scandals that she must face such as the Troopergate incident along with her pregnant teen daughter before marriage, yet she is defended by even our conservative evangelical base.
denounced by association by sitting in a church for good? a church that spewed racism is good? Obamessiah sat in that church for 20 years, soaking up racism and hatred and you’re telling us that when he “quit” that church he simply dropped all of the preaching he got from his preacher?
as for Palin’s scandals, if you can call them that, those scandals PALE in comparison to the scandals that the messiah is keeping under the rug with the help of the mainstream media. Obama lies about Ayers being “just a guy in my neighborhood,” while he actually doled out millions of dollars from a foundation with nothing to show for in the end. Obama doled out political favors to Rezko, convicted felon, while getting a good deal on property. who’s got a list of REAL scandals here?
As a religious and faithful country, have we come to a point where we cannot practice what we preach? Have we come to a point where we should look the other way only when it is convenient for us? One should realize hypocrisy before really passing judgment and we as a nation, should always do what is objectively right.
you can ask yourself and liberals that. the religious faithful knows how to forgive those who truly ask for forgiveness. an unapologetic terrorists (Ayers) can’t be forgiven, and those who sided with him (Obama) and lied about it doesn’t appear to deserve any forgiveness at all. let’s look at practicing what liberals are preaching a little more, where are the feminists that claims to champion strong women fater the leftwingnuts started attacking Palin? all of them “feminists” have koined the choir attacking Palin because the so called democrat’s “feminist” movement is nothing but a female version (or perversion if you will) of liberal ideology. what’s proving to be true is that the democrat’s feminist movement would rather fight for lesbianism than fight for a woman’s right to hold national office. The “pro-choice” argument as well is being attacked by your so called feminist as they denigrate Sarah’s choice to be a mom,a public servant, to keep a Down Syndrome child (funny how it’s ok for Pope Nancy, Hillary, and other liberal pantsuits), and Bristol’s choice to keep her baby.
who’s being a hypocrite here?
democrats/liberals do not have the moral high ground on this argument buddy.
Sep 7, 2008 - 2:07 am 108. chicago:“let’s look at practicing what liberals are preaching a little more, where are the feminists that claims to champion strong women fater the leftwingnuts started attacking Palin?”
that “fater” should be “after!” LOL!
Sep 7, 2008 - 2:10 am 109. Ed Wallis:“Jeff” 10:47pm - Having followed more than a few of your posts, I do not believe you are, as you claim, “a true Independent.”

YOU KNOW, the kind which Leftists all over the blogosphere have suddenly voiced over the past 9 days or so (”she should take care of her kids,” “she didn’t teach her daughter responsibility” and bla bla bla).
But thanks for CARING….
Sep 7, 2008 - 2:48 am 110. 888:Rachel Peepers, love your comments. Exactamundo!
Jeff, you are NOT “a true independent.” As far as Obama’s scandals go, they are too numerous to mention, and, oh, by the way, in case you’ve been on a different planet the past 2 years, the mainstream media and the elitist, liberal establishment have been doing everything in their power to ensure Obama’s scandals are not publicized. That’s why you only see conservatives talk about his pal, convicted Rezko, giving Obama the multi-million dollar mansion he lives in; Obama’s close relationship with terrorist - domestic bomber Ayers and their failed taxpayer-funded (Socialist) Education program; his alcoholic Kenyan father, who was already married to a Kenyan woman, impregnating his 18 year old mother while both were students in Hawaii; his poor family in Kenya whom he’s all but forgotten and failed to acknowledge during this election year; his coke-snorting; his missing birth certificate; and, on and on and on. This guy has more skeletons than any who’s run for VP or POTUS.

Sep 7, 2008 - 4:29 pm 117. Believer:Herb, correct me if I’m wrong, but I think you made a big deal on another thread about this being one of BO’s accomplishments: getting married and having children — as qualification for being POTUS.
An unusual inclusion on a job application, to be sure, but let’s consider it. We can begin here:
On this thread, you write as though the lessons of Christ are important — and that you follow them yourself. Your candidate professes to share that faith as well.
I would assume, then, that you were offended by the teachings of TUCC and the sermons of hate spewed by Wright. Perhaps you were equally shocked that your candidate would put his own young children in the pews of said ‘church’ to be taught what is antithetical to Christ.
It is easy to marry. And even easier to father a child. What matters most is what we teach our children. And the care and love we show them. None of us is perfect, but we would hope that our lives are examples to our children of good judgment and strong character. And that they, too, become responsible adults, accepting the consequences of their own missteps in life.
Early on, one of the great disqualifiers of your candidate, for me, was that he showed so little regard for the well-being of his own flesh and blood. To attend himself - and to take his children - to the TUCC was an error of judgment. Either he had no idea the damage such teaching might do - and misunderstood the Christian message - or he is a supremely selfish man. I think it’s the latter: his attendance at TUCC was to further his political ambitions.
If he could be so selfish and show so little care for his daughters, I had to ask: “How careless would he then be with your well-being and mine?”
I soon learned. I’ve commented at PJM many times - when in a position of power - he selfishly took money for himself, his friends and associates instead of helping those he would have us believe he cares about: the less fortunate.
The healthcare costs of the poor and uninsured at the Univ. of Chicago Hospital - with Michelle - is a particularly good example. Improvement of education in Chicago’s schools - with Ayers - is another. The full story of this disturbing folly has yet to be told the public. And - partnering with Rezko - housing for the poor was an especially dramatic failure.
In each area: health, education and housing - your candidate and his friends and associates became richer - leaving those in need in no better shape. Perhaps even worse.
Instead of being a family man who considers his responsibility to guard their well-being of utmost importance, his carelessness in that regard is revealed. We can no more trust him to make wise decisions regarding our welfare than those who’ve unfortunately found themselves at his mercy in the past.
If I were your candidate, I’d leave off “family man” from that list of qualifications for POTUS. It’s not working for me.
Sep 7, 2008 - 5:09 pm 118. Jeff:To all of you who believes that I am not a true Independent. Now let’s take a look at what’s been going on in the election. Republicans bash Obama for all of his associations without one solid proof of evidence that he even agrees with these associations or has even taken any actions to coincide with these associations. Yet, you welcome and idolize Palin with open arms despite all of her existing scandals that she is still facing. Just take a look below—
http://howinsaneisjohnmccain.blogspot.com/2008/09/sarah-palin-scandals-complete-list.html
The Republicans also questioned Obama’s lack of experiences time and time again yet chose a candidate that’s only been a Governor of Alaska for only 2 years and has never voted on any issues inside of Washington. Obama has actually voted on many issues inside of Washington, as hard as this may sound to you Right Wingers. As an Independent, it’s hard not to catch the hipocrisy that is at play here.
Sep 7, 2008 - 6:40 pm 119. Believer:Re that Oct. 2 debate — I just now happened across a replay of Palin’s 2006 Governor’s Debate on C-Span.
She’s giving well-informed, direct and articulate answers to the questions. She speaks with understanding for those who don’t hold her more conservative positions on social issues, and speaks clearly as one who looks out for the rights of the people for whom she works. They obviously come first for her.
Lovely there’s no stumbling, uuhhing, or dodging. Straight answers from a straight shooter. Someone we can trust.
I think she’s going to surprise an awful lot of doubters. Look out, Joe, you’ve got your work cut out for you.

Hillary supports Obama like fleas support a dog.
Sep 8, 2008 - 4:44 am 124. Jasemin:Perhaps you should go into Watts and talk to the working mothers who struggle and ask them. Instead of sitting in your hi rise condos crime free neighborhoods. Obama takes his children to a private scool at twenty thousand dollars a year for tution. Yet he is against school vouchers for us here in the worst schools in the country for our children. The teachers union money and endorsements are more important to the democratic party. Now you can understand why we will vote for our childrens future and vote for McCain Sara Palin. If Hilliary was running we would vote for her but they toss her away like used rag
Sep 8, 2008 - 8:38 am 125. Likesha:Sara palin is a fresh light and hope for many of us. After supporting the democrat party all these years what do we have? Crime drugs single mothers, worst schools in the nation and a 75 percent drop out rate. I know this upsets many yuppie liberals who want us to stay on the democrat reservation. We are tired of being used and abused. We want a future for our children. Many Afro Americans woman and men in our churchs and communities are voteing for our chidrens future, We are supporting and voteing for Sara Palin she understands the heart of a mother and her childrens future.

You are speaking right out of karl Marx’s handbook. Attack the messanger not the message. You can not dispute the message so like all liberals you attack them with venom and slander. I know this because I was a liberal for 48 years until last week When Sara Palin showed the light for all women to have their dreams come true. Wake up and just think about what has 40 years of Democrat policies and manipulation of the Afro American community done. Highest crime rate Highest drop out rate. Highest one parent family. Highest drug addiction and arrest rate. We have been fed hate like Rev. Wright anf Farrakhan. Sara feeds pure inspired love. Then the same liberals do not live or send their children to our schools.
Likesha,
You write, “I know this because I was a liberal for 48 years until last week …”. I, like you, once held these wrenching, frustrating “dreams” (better said, “wishful desires”).

Sep 9, 2008 - 7:32 pm 131. Jeff:My biggest concern with McCain’s pick of Palin is that, with her tough no holds bar conservative stance, it will be very difficult to reform this hyperpartisanship that we are facing in Washington, as McCain claims that he wants to do. They will face many an opposition from the Left in Washington from the start on many an issues facing our country.
The other main fact is that Palin has never tackled on any problems inside of Washington so will be viewed by our Democratic controlled Congress with little experience, as McCain has always viewed with Obama. They will always have a mental note of the short time that she’ll be in Washington.
With Palin’s pick, we could be facing a more uphill battle in Washington than Obama’s pick of Biden. We don’t need internal battles in Washington, we need results!

Here, he talks about “reforming hyperpartisanship.” Uh huh.
Using slightly other words, at the other thread he wrote, “With Palin’s pick, we could be facing a more uphill battle in Washington than Obama’s pick of Biden. We don’t need internal battles in Washington, we need results!”
That’s a mighty stupid, but even scarier, thought. Here’s why:
* If you don’t want “internal battles” in politics, Jeff-O’bot, YOU NEED TO MOVE to RUSSIA or CHINA. We Americans name that so-called “internal battle” the LIFEBLOOD OF OUR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC.
* RESULTS per se are NOT what Americans need.
* Americans need CORRECT and BETTER RESULTS.
* Obama/Biden(LOL! Liberal Rubberstamper and Washington Insider Supreme to bring “change”?!…ha!) would only enact more Socialist policies (among others, massive wealth distribution within the U.S. and - oh yes - $845 billion going to the poorer countries of the world via the United Nations…ha ha ha!!!)
* If Democrats control both houses of Congress, the damage to America’s future could well be irreparable under Obama.
THAT IS WAY it is imperative to ELECT McCAIN/PALIN this November.

I am appalled and disgusted by the claim of Obama supporters that Jesus was a community organizer. Jesus Christ told people to trust in God not the government. I am very upset how the liberal media is comparing Obama to Jesus with a halo. This is total blasphemy and shows how low and evil these people are. Only a fool would vote for low life fraud like him
Sep 11, 2008 - 7:52 am 137. Carl:Barack Obama’s Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac Connection

Freddie and Fannie used huge lobbying budgets and political contributions to keep regulators off their backs.
A group called the Center for Responsive Politics keeps track of which politicians get Fannie and Freddie political contributions. The top three U.S. senators getting big Fannie and Freddie political bucks were Democrats and No. 2 is Sen. Barack Obama.
Now remember, he’s only been in the Senate four years, but he still managed to grab the No. 2 spot ahead of John Kerry — decades in the Senate — and Chris Dodd, who is chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.
Fannie and Freddie have been creations of the congressional Democrats and the Clinton White House, designed to make mortgages available to more people and, as it turns out, some people who couldn’t afford them.
Fannie and Freddie have also been places for big Washington Democrats to go to work in the semi-private sector and pocket millions. The Clinton administration’s White House Budget Director Franklin Raines ran Fannie and collected $50 million. Jamie Gorelick — Clinton Justice Department official — worked for Fannie and took home $26 million. Big Democrat Jim Johnson, recently on Obama’s VP search committee, has hauled in millions from his Fannie Mae CEO job.
