Sorry I couldn’t resist. But as someone who also grew up in innercity NYC and who has lived in the Malasana area of Madrid, where the hatred of Muslims is a palpable and visceral thing, I am shocked that more eruptions have not taken place throughout Europe. The Continent is a tinder box thanks to these leftist politicians and their need to import and coddle these grievance mongering Muslims.

Now the leftists in the US want to Balkanize our great nation so we end up like Europe. Notwithstanding the damage Obama is doing the efforts of the leftists will fail here thanks to the 2nd Amendment and other traditions but have no doubt that identity politics will not end well here either.

Don’t be so surprised that people don’t act grateful for welfare. Being on welfare equals dependency. Dependency breeds self-contempt. Self-contempt is deflected back onto whoever one is dependent on. Resentment of the government is fueled because on some level, the recipient sees of the government as being pathetic for giving out cash so easily.

Think of it this way. A schoolyard bully can, and does, extort lunch money from weaker kids. He can’t, and doesn’t, extort money from strong kids. If you give him money, then you are by definition one of the weak kids. He will expect more tomorrow, but it won’t buy his friendship. He views you as pathetic. His evidence? The very fact that you are giving him money in the first place!

The expression “biting the hand that feeds you” wouldn’t even exist if the phenomena weren’t so natural.

In another context, it also explains the existence of indugent parents having resentful teenagers.

At an utter loss? I can hardly believe that, when the author proves to be open-minded about Geert Wilders and other issues. Is it really unthinkable that a well-run welfare system leads to a sense of entitlement? I strongly recommend reading Tocqueville’s Memoir on Pauperism.

When Bush the first liberated Kuwait and completely humiliated the Iraqi military there was general quiet among the Islamic populations of the world. From Israel to Rotterdam there was less terrorism and bad behavior. After hearing for a decade how Saddam could whip the west and seeing what actually happened there was fear of the US.

This fear has been completely dissipated with Clinton, Bush the second and Obama. Once Iran gets the bomb watch for a tidal wave of riots and terrorism around the world as the Moslems will feel empowered.

It is only a matter of time before this bitterness between Muslims and non-Muslims boils over into open armed confrontation. Don’t believe me? You only have to look at either Bosnia or Kosovo to see what is in store for the rest of Europe. Whenever threatened by an ethnic group, the Europeans do what they always do, which is try to wipe them out. Whether it was the Turks trying to wipe out the Armenians, or the Greeks trying to wipe out the Turks, or the Germans trying to wipe out the Jews, or the Serbians trying to wipe out the Muslims, if you push the Europeans (either Eastern or Western Europeans) too far, a classic pogrom is probably not that far away.

Holland may be the first to go this route, with France, England, and Germany not far behind. Britain is one major Muslim terrorist attack away from an open uprising between Muslim and non-Muslims. If a major Muslim terrorist attack takes place in England, I’m sure the days of Muslim tolerance will be over in Britain. As for Holland, this situation has been festering for years, especially since the death of Theo van Gogh. All it will take is either one major Muslim riot, or another high-profile murder, and the native-born Dutch will start rebelling against the Muslims. Further Muslim immigration to Holland will probably be prohibited and the Muslims already living in Holland will face severe retribution for their actions. This is actually quite dumb on the part of the Muslims because, if the Muslims simply tried to assimilate into Dutch culture and tradition, they would have much better results living in that country and the country would reward them with much social and economic benefits. But no, as usual, the Muslims have to behave like spoiled children and refuse every attempt to assimilate into the nations THEY decide to immigrate to. Even here in the United States, there are way too many Muslim neighborhoods in some states (like Michigan, Minnesota, and upstate New York) where the inhabitants don’t seem very interested in American traditions or values. Therefore, the United States should pay close attention to what is happening in Europe. It may be a sign of things to come soon right here in America.

And anyone whose large family was, by your description, fed and sheltered — utterly subsidized — by the hard work of other Americans should feel some quite unambiguous gratitude for that generosity. You say you do, but then it’s back to differentiating yourself by identity and negatively contrasting our welfare system to the Dutch welfare system’s “generosity.” You can’t have it both ways — your family was treated generously by strangers forced to subsidize them, was it not, including the uniquely American part about inculcating an ethic of self-reliance and the desire to leave dependence behind?

Women can not trot so freely around Europe’s streets — or streets anywhere — but I’ve never heard of a woman in your situation resorting to denouncing their Western identity in the face of street thugs. Think harder about these things. If you were standing next to an American friend who was not Puerto Rican and not from New York, would you turn him over to the thugs to save yourself? When I read something like this, I worry that our educational system is so far gone that even someone clearly trying to think for himself is handicapped by politically correct identity-privileging and reflexive anti-Americanism.

The evolution of American ghettos is much more complex than Jim Crow laws. The very government welfare programs meant to help in Europe have also contributed to deplorable conditions in America. As you point out, the existence of similar government social benefits for the poor has contributed most significantly to encouragement to emigrate and the self-segregation of new immigrants in Europe. Additionally the leftist multi-culturalist attitudes discourage integration… again not dissimilar to America.

I don’t find it as hard to understand why these new immigrants are contemptuous of a culture which invited another culture in, but refuses to exhibit even a hint of willingness to defend its ideals. Without some pressure to assimilate, there will be none. Rewarding immigrants for staying separate and disrespecting and deriding the host culture, encourages the conflict and violence you’ve witnessed.

Respect for another culture is one thing, but submission to it because of a refusal to defend or even show pride in your own, is suicide. Sadly we are watching Europe preparing to fall upon its own sword.

The Frankfurt School did a good job dissecting where Marx went wrong. They decided that the working class would never rise up against the capitalists. Indeed, through two world wars, members of the working class remained the most ardent nationalists. They knew pride of place through hard work, and they took enjoyment in the fruits of their labor. What’s more, they were willing to defend it.

Members of the Frankfurt School migrated to the United States with the rise of Hitler. If the working class would not support class warfare, who would? A new coalition was put together: pacifists, gays, blacks, women, and other disaffected groups. In short, the modern Democratic party. But the Marxists had erred a second time. They failed to anticipate the rise of Stalin, Mao, and Castro.

Politicians of the left, regardless of nation, have become adept at dividing the body politic as a means to control. In effect, permanent revolution allows the leaders to enjoy a privileged station while their followers squabble over crumbs. Muslims in the west represent another constituency to be exploited, albeit a growing and increasingly vocal faction.

I’ve forgotten who said it, but “politics is the art of domination.” America’s current president knows this well. Whatever he may profess, his only agenda is to accrue more personal power. The only thing standing in his way is (small “r”) republicanism. Creating a larger dependent class robs the citizen of a vested interest in nationhood. This, I believe, is the plan. Divide and conquer. Our media proclaimed “great uniter” is no such thing. A weakened and divided America will be easier to control. Witness Europe and see our future.

As much as I can’t stand Islam, and can’t understand why the Dutch government would put up with this stuff, I have to ask myself: What is the alternative? I always laugh at Europeans who I meet doing IT work who think America is racist. When I point out the facts how racist Europeans are they have nothing else to say.

Islam is winning in Europe because people are realizing there will be very little to save or want to save of an empty secular culture.

It just goes to show what happens when people are attracted to a country not for freedom, but for freebies.

What exactly would be the incentive to try to leave your culture behind if the only reason you’ve moved is for financial gain? For countries that strive to accommodate an immigrant’s ‘old country’ ways (such as language sensitivity) the natural course of assimilation of children becomes even less effective. We can see that in Mr. Lucre’s own self-image as a Puerto Rican, instead of as an American.

I agree with many of the posters here about acceptance of welfare being degrading. Add immigrants from Arab countries where honor (as they define it) is extremely important and you’ve got a recipe for violence.

1. Why are government built and subsidized housing in any way constitute in any way the reason for the black grievance against the US government?
2. It was not the fault of evil white people that you grew up in a broken family. I suggest you actualy thank white people for feeding and housing your pathetic family.
3. Living off the labor of white people (or any people) is a sign of failure, it is objective, not subjective.
4. I don’t understand why you think that better handouts in Europe would make the life of parasites more fullfilled. Indeed, dependence on government handouts in Europe is an even larger sign of failure.

All in all, Paulie, your liberal disease is still not cured by the European “youths”. I suggest you need to move permamently to Rotterdam and start hanging out more with the local oppressed classes. Don’t forget to mention your homosexuality – it will dramatically increase the rate of your education.

Paul Lucre seems to be saying that Holland has been more than generous to Moroccan immigrants, and he struggles to see why they are not grateful. Yet he half-answers his own question by saying that he himself wanted to get out of the welfare ghetto because he saw it as humiliating.

The missing link is this: those Moroccan immigrants do not see welfare dependancy as humiliating; it is simply payment of “jizyah” (the poll tax from non-Muslims) which is their due.

I think Paul Lucre is trying to make sense of what happened and has some good points, but needs to study Islam. He could start by reading New English Review (click on my name) or my articles here at PJM.

The North, on the other hand, has horrific ghettos. Ever been to Baltimore? Washington D.C.? Newark? Philadelphia? The list goes on and on. The one factor that all these ghettos have in common is that the cities they are found in are run by liberals, and have been for many years. Atlanta didn’t have a ghetto until liberal Democrats took over running the city. Look at Atlanta now.

For all their protestations that they “care”, liberal Democrats have proven to be the worst bigots that America every produced judging by the results of their policies.

Welfare robs people of their dignity and self respect. The liberal Democrats in the big cities first destroyed the manufacturing base in the inner cities through their social engineering programs and then substituted welfare for jobs. And the result in every large American city was to create a ghetto that has people trapped in hopelessness.

The thing that upsets me the most about these liberals is that the terrible results of their policies are plain to see, yet they keep pushing these terrible policies.

It doesn’t surprise me that this “Puerto Rican from NYC who is not an American” doesn’t understand Muslims, why they don’t try to become part of their host country. He obviously knows very little about the history even of his own country, a country that he claims not to belong to. Muslims have no intention of being “assimilated” by their host countries. They are taught hatred and Jihad from a very young age. Their goal is to assimilate their host country, not to be assimilated by it.

Several posters made reference to the fact that living in a welfare state was humiliating, etc. and implied this in itself were sort of the reasoning behind such violent attacks.

And this brings up the thought to me that “tolerance” is not a solution under most any circumstance where one group is either continually using violence against other innocent citizens or where one group is suffering greatly at the hands of another. In fact, it’s really the reason we seem to participate in war. Human rights issues.

I grew up in the shadow of the projects in a large U.S. city. The projects were high rise buildings that housed mainly African Americans who relied on welfare. This was back in the late 60’s and early 70’s. There was a great deal of violence related to this area. Especially on Fridays when everyone got their welfare checks and soome took to partying – and then to violence. Even the children who I sometimes played with, had built up prejudice and hate towards me. Tolerance was not the solution. In fact, it actually took force in more ways than once to remedy the violent situations.

Those projects have since been demolished and now it’s a popular urban area. Many people in the projects did move themselves up and off welfare – but it was only after years of reductions in welfare programs, a great deal of peer pressure and finally the notice of demolition that forced them to make a permanent change. The “free ride” had ended.

I remember I was shocked to visit after 20 years – I could barely believe they had ever existed. It was like it had been a bad dream. The horrific sounds, smells and visuals I had been accustomed to seeing as a child had all but vanished. Sure, there are still rundown areas and government subsidized housing around the general area but the improvement was nothing short of incredible.

We worry about immigrants from Mexico, etc. but the population in many Middle Eastern countries and Africa is astounding – and a great deal are suffering. We cannot house and feed the world’s needy population – and we shouldn’t attempt to do so.

Basic parenting skills teach that bribery is not an effective method. So why do we continue to try and “bribe” people with welfare? There are many good programs teaching people to build their own community – their own sustainable lifestyles, farms, etc. – and THIS is what we should be building on, NOT the bribery of welfare. I’ve lived long enough to see that even in times of tremendous despair, we can learn to pull ourselves up, not because we are given money, but because we gain education and come to terms with our dignity and pride.

If he is of a certain age, and he seems young, then I suspect he is a case like many of my students. I’m not saying these problems don’t exist but they didn’t pop up overnight and they won’t go away overnight. Sadly, you sound like a Republican bitching because Obama hasn’t fixed all the problems in the US within his first 100 days.

I have seen Geert’s movie in which he shows verses from the quran and connects them to the moslem behavior. One can do the same with mohammed’s so called “perfect” example. It is always good to point out that moslem behavior has a high correlation factor with what is written in the quran. This exposes the real root cause of the problems with the moslims, and that is the quran itself. Without this book gone, these problems will exist for eternity because these verses are not time period specific but valid for ever and ever.

Islam strives for world domination but has any moslem ever thought a bit deeper and figured out what that would mean for the human race and the world?

– all Jews on this world will be exterminated, not only the ones in Israel.
– the same fate will be for all dogs, pigs and any other unclean animals.
– freedom of speech is gone.
– critics of islam are put to death
– Christians are forced to convert.
– apostates from islam are killed.
– lives of Christians that do not convert will be made miserable.
– moslems can have slaves again… Christians.
– all other religions and atheist must convert or loose their head.
– homosexuals will be hung or thrown from a tall building.
– the history of the world will be re-written in islamic friendly terms.
– women will be taken out of the work force.
– child rape is permissable

– women will be forced to give birth to as many children as they can.
– women can be beaten again.
– all women need to wear their penguin suit.
– women and girls are not allowed to go to school.
– all western literature will be destroyed.

– no more electricity.
– no more gasoline or any other fuels.

– cars, trains, ships, planes and agricultural equipment can not be built anymore.
– Fertilizers and pesticides are not produced anymore.
– farm land needs to be cultivated by hand.
– there are not enough Christan slaves to do the manual work in the fields.
– the quran does not give instructions to moslems on how to grow food or work the land.
– the farmers can not even produce one tenth of what is produced currently.
– enormous famine will occur.
– People will fight and kill each other for food.
– all domestic and wild animals will be slaughtered for food.
– Christians will be in the minority and will be murdered first in quarrels for food.
– human population will shrink to levels before the industrial revolution, about 500 million.
– for ages to come, the whole world will resemble current Somalia and Sudan.
– although moslims are misguided in thinking that they will go to heaven, they shucky darn won’t.
– only islam is known to the world therefore nobody will go to heaven anymore.
– the world has been made in a living hell.
– separation between good and evil has occurred.

I wonder, why didn’t allah foresee this? Or maybe he did…
