The Glenn and Helen Show: Media Freedom

Brian Anderson talks about the Fairness Doctrine, the prospect of media regulation, and the likelihood of efforts to squash the alternative media in the next Congress.

October 18, 2008

Brian Anderson is the author of South Park Conservatives: The Revolt Against Liberal Media Bias, and now he’s got a new book out with Adam Thierer entitled A Manifesto for Media Freedom. Glenn Reynolds and Helen Smith talk to Anderson about efforts to restore the Fairness Doctrine, the prospect of media regulation via subterfuge, and the likelihood of efforts to squash the alternative media in the next Congress — as well as what to do about it.

As a website owner, I have been purchasing keyword search advertising for my sites: sarahforamerica.org and gopland.com.

When I tried to purchase adwords from Yahoo, I waited several days while the company reviewed my website. It came back with the determination that it would not allow my webad due to “an unacceptable product.” I did not and do not sell any products. I asked for clarification, several days more delay, then I stated that my son was discussing Freedom of Speech in his AP Government class and the incident would be used for educational purposes. Yahoo came back and said “good to go.” Then my ad sat and had hardly any impressions even with a $3,000 monthly ad budget.

I took my ad campaign to Google. They refused my ad for gopland.com because of “character attacks made on Obama and his family.” These were links to videos that everyone has seen.

What I learned thru this experiment is that what information we receive can be easily controlled.

Be wary, be vigilant. It is terrifying what is coming without divine intervention.

Maybe the Rama Fairness Doctrine will eliminate the need, but please take just one minute to make a list of all the “conservative” writers and radio hosts who have and are jumping ship. Don’t read or listen to them during the Rama Regime, if they still exist then as there will be more than enough press and e-media worshipers in the Cult of Rama. You may find yourself with more than enough time to volunteer at your county committees to replace the “conservatives” there.

Sara,
Reading your post scares me! I have become increasingly uncomfortable with the power that Yahoo and Google have over internet information. They can not only block your online advertising, but also control whether or not you turn up in search results.

This is yet another reason why McCain needs to be elected President. If Obama, the leftist-socialist, wins, then the left-wing Democratic party will eliminate all voices who are critical of them.

God help us all!

When 911 happened I felt like my freedoms were curtailed. We traveled by rail instead of air, waiting for the next shoe to drop. The patriot act was passed and I felt a little safer. But then some of the eaves dropping got curtailed by the supreme court (thanks to the NY Times) and I felt less safe.

With Obama as president and the government fully in control of the democrats the fairness doctrine is a done deal. The libs complain about Bush taking away freedom, wait until Obama gets in office. But of course if a conservative can’t speak his mind that really isn’t censorship is it?

The winner of the decade is of course Osama Bin Laden. For a couple of million bucks he toppled the US and Europe and will get the US to elect the one man who can help him make Israel disappear.

Or as Samuel Jackson’s character said in Jurassic Park when he rebooted the computer “hang on to your butts.”

The Secretaries of State in every state of America MUST require verifiable documentation as to whether any candidate is qualified for the office for which they are contending. If said Secretaries do not perform this legal duty, they may be subject to prosecution for dereliction of duty and other criminal acts.

When Pelosi’s book came out, I watched over 200 negative reviews on Amazon get deleted by their so called screeners. Probably more reviews than books sold LOL. She is a useless twit do all of us a favor California and replace that moron. Amazon deletes negative reviews on liberal publications and does not do the same to conservative publications. This is only books I no longer trust feedback on the Internet that all that should be there is there. If Obama wins look out. Don’t believe the media or the polls we need everybody possible to vote for McCain. It isn’t over until the fat lady sings. I’ll let the reader decide who the fat lady is.

If Obama wins you will all be too busy in the rice fields and paying too much in taxes to have the time and money to buy anything to listen to the Obama networks jibberish.
