Sorry, the Republican party is not going to vanish. If I remember right, only 6 or 7% difference in the last presidential election. The GOP is gaining those votes automatically as time goes by. By solidly opposing harmful radical Democrat policy now, the GOP political future is guaranteed. Conservatism is on the rise, and the GOP is accentuating their core values accordingly.

No GOP pandering is needed or wanted…we are all equal in this country and we should be addressed as such.

It is so clear from a majority of the comments that the GOP just doesn’t get it. To paraphrase Henry Clay, they would rather be right (as in far right) than president.
They either don’t know or don’t care that the Republican party is increasingly one of aging white men who don’t know or don’t care that in a few decades, they will be the minority in this country. If they don’t find ways to attract African-American and Latino voters, their party will eventually vanish like the Whigs

Even after someone explained it to you, the vast number who’ve posted here still don’t get it. That’s sad. But it’s what I’ve come to expect from Repugs. You want people to support you while at the same time you make disparaging remarks about them. It won’t work folks. Until you get it, you’ll probably stay in this political wilderness.

Oh, please. The Democraps are just as guilty – if not more so – of having racism gaffes. They just don’t get pounced on it like Republicans do for calling some lefty stalker from India a “makaka”. Whatever the hell that means. The fact of the matter is our popular culture is controlled by the left. And they’ve burned this stereotype into virtually every single American that the Republican Party is just a front for the KKK and retarded rednecks. I know because I used to think exactly that until I was about 19 and became a Republican. A gaffe now and then from some no-name college age staffer of a Republican congressmen like in an email where Obama is poked fun at in a racially charged cartoon isn’t something we should be too worried about. Focus on creating good policies and articulating them to as many people as possible and steadily chip away at the lefts control of our popular culture rather than going on the defensive over bullcrap stereotypes and race baiting. If we don’t we’ll just be playing right into the lefts hands.

Racism and bigotry will be with us always, as long as we remain human. Ruben Navarrette himself is a case in point. However, if we look at bigotry among the two major political parties, it is very hard to make the case that Republicans are more bigoted than Democrats. Conservatives who sadly still must vote with Republicans are likely the least bigoted because their ideology—the worth and value of the individual over the group—is without bigotry. As parties, Democrats don’t believe that at all, and many Republicans don’t either.

Naverette is probably at least partly right. There is bigotry among both Democrats and Republicans, careless comments made occasionally by lots of people. There is strong and blatant reverse racism among Blacks toward Whites and Hispanics, as well.

Anyway, it’s Hispanics that I think are natural Republicans, or should be. Especially those who have the individual drive to uproot and migrate to the U.S. They are not always running away. They are often aspiring, living out their dreams, and once here are often driven toward enterprise. Many times, most times, family, honor, a powerful work ethic, and strong values imbue their lives. These, I think, are American-like and fit with Republican traditions.

Are Republicans open to these folks? I simply pose the question. Look at this: Hispanics are the fastest-growing minority, and should or might be natural conservatives, and Republicans. I’ve had the feeling for quite a while that the GOP should genuinely not patronize but openly court Hispanics. Actually be for them, ie, anyone who is willing to follow legal methods of immigration, learn the language, and be upstanding citizens. Hell, go out and actively help them accomplish these things if need be. It should be an ongoing Republican initiative. I believe the Bushes have been attempting to show us this course, but many have not wanted to listen. They should, we should, and soon!

Take a step back here. Don’t forget, it was the Republicans that forced Civil rights down LBJ’s throat, he did not really want to do it.

It is and always has been the Dims who have pulled the race card out at the first sign of possible failure, not the Republicans or for that matter any true Conservatives.

As for the political stigma for the original posters racist ‘white party’ idiocy, take this to heart.

In 1868, Horatio Seymour, the Democratic Presidental candidate’s OFFICIAL campaign slogan was “This is a White Man’s Government!”.

Ulysses S. Grant was the Republican candidate(and obviously, the winner), with “Let There Be Peace”. Sometimes it is misquoted as “Vote as You Shot”, which was a secondary slogan during the primaries.

The ‘hippie’ generation that was against government control is now obsessed with it controlling their lives. Their children have be raised to believe this. If the children do not respond to this sort of control and dependence, they will medicated into submission. Those that rule now do not believe what you must do applies to them. They wish you to be forced to their control in public school with their agendas programed into the curriculum. Their children do not go to these schools. They wish you to be forced to have your health care divvied out to their subjects as they see fit, how they see fit, yet have no intention of submitting themselves to the same system. They wish to control your pay, what you drive, how you travel, what sort of home you live in, how much land you can own and how you can own it, how you color determines your value in the workplace or at home, how much you eat and where it comes from, and yet they will not have to follow any of these rules themselves. The next attempt to control the vote will be coming shortly with a corrupt census. It would be funny if it were a joke, but it is a fact. Destroy the economy, build an unbeatable base of voters, and rule the other 49% of the nation as slaves to the government.
