The liberal ideal is that Rauf should have been arrested and read his rights in the tribal area of Pakistan. Then, he was to have been shipped to San Francisco and given OJ’s (original) legal defense team to “clear his name.” Once the SF jury found him not guilty, he would plead asylum from nasty Pakistan’s government that – understandably enough – would “persecute” him if it ever got its hands on him.

Being not guilty and given a green card, he would henceforth become a model US citizen and hit the lecture circuit.

As far as I can tell, that is how people like Doc L. think these things thru…

You have to understand British politics to know how this could happen.

Most of the ruling Labour Party’s MPs would instantly rise to the defense of a British citizen were to receive the death penalty, even if he was a terrorist and a mass murderer, and especially if the US were to be involved in executing him.

Consequently the British Government will have been very careful not to know anything about the planned strike, and the US government was I’m sure happy to oblige. The only thing left for Labour’s MPs to complain about was the US keeping the British in the dark, but that’s a total sham, as 90% of them fully understand.

Welcome to the reality of the ‘global test’, in this case as it works with our closest ally. It goes downhill from there.

British MPs raising questions in the Houses of Parliament is pretty meaningless. First of all Parliament in the UK is emasculated by Europe, secondly no one in their right mind would worry about what MPs need to know and thirdly, any “questions” are probably done for local votes to give the illusion that they care.

But a fair number of NuLab people think – as all good lefties always imagine – that “international law” exists and that being nice to nasty people means they will stop being doing bad things. Long winded trials may appeal as an intellectual idea but the reality of war requires expediency, not lawyers arguing. The scum who died had no plans to be fair to people on airliners they planned to kill.

A bad guy is dead and has gone to collect his virgin-vouchers. I expect British intelligence knew something of it and whatever the bleatings of MPs, the world is now a slightly better place thanks to the US involvement.

Wait, it’s not over yet. The Associated Press will write a story that the hellfire missle attacked a peaceful Muslim wedding party and devote the first 20 paragraphs describing how the evil U.S. killed numerous women and children and the last paragraph will mention,as an aside, that a terrorist was also killed. I love all these “Muslim weddings”, I guess that the invitations make AK 47’s optional and that peaceful attendees were celebrating firing them into the air just as an Amerrican drone was passing overhead, purely a co-incidence I’m sure.

The premise of this article seems to be that the US knew exactly who was in the house before it was attacked and that US intelligence deliberately decided to keep this information from the British government.

Here’s another scenario. Informants in Afghanistan convey the information that “some al Qaeda guy” is staying there. Surveillance indicates that he is meeting with other al Qaeda people and seems to be some sort of leader. One or more Hellfire missiles are fired into his dwelling. In the aftermath, a follow up team goes through the wreckage looking for documents, computers, cell phones and mops up some of the jihadi juice splashed all over the rubble for DNA testing.

After going through the evidence, somebody in a lab in northern Virginia says, “Guess who we just killed.”

British government = leftist wimps = Whitehall

British intelligence = still the best in Europe = conservatives.

Paki intelligence = Arm of the Taliban and helped the guy escape before.

My bet is that the Brits pinpointed him and that they had to get the Americans to do the deed because if it went up their administrative ladder they would be reading about it on the front page of the Guardian.
