The Third Jihad Will Make Cultural Islamists Squirm
Obsession DVDs got CAIR hot under the hijab, but this new documentary will get their burqa in a bunch.

A few weeks ago Bridget Johnson reported here at Pajamas Media about the jihad against free speech being waged by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) against the national DVD distribution of copies of the documentary Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West, in more than 70 papers. Not only has CAIR filed complaints with the Federal Election Commission against the group sponsoring the campaign, the Clarion Fund, but they have also demanded that the IRS investigate the organization’s tax-exempt status, claiming that the Clarion Fund is a front group for an Israeli organization. The evidence they have provided, however, is little more than the guilt-by-association variety.
I will only pause momentarily to note the outrageous hypocrisy of CAIR calling anyone else a front for foreign organizations, especially after an FBI agent testified two weeks ago in a federal terrorism finance trial in Dallas, identifying CAIR as a front group for the terrorist organization HAMAS and the international Muslim Brotherhood.
But if Obsession gave CAIR heartburn, a new documentary by the same director, The Third Jihad: Radical Islam’s Vision for America, will undoubtedly give them kidney stones.
There are two cardinal reasons why CAIR and other Islamic extremist groups will find The Third Jihad even more deplorable than its predecessor.
The first is that the film directly challenges their claim to speak on behalf of all American Muslims. In fact, the film is narrated by Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, a devout American-born Muslim physician, a former U.S. Navy lieutenant commander, and president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy. Jasser has been one of the most outspoken American Muslim leaders against the agenda of radical Islam in the U.S. and the organizations that actively work to advance the jihadist cause against our country. And he has done this through numerous television appearances on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and many other outlets, in print through articles and editorials, and speaking regularly on the national lecture circuit.
To have a mainstream Muslim leader — who is unashamedly pro-American and anti-jihadist; who cites his military induction oath to protect the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, as a personal fundamental commitment; who is not tainted with multiple ties to foreign jihadist groups and Islamic terrorist organizations; whose parents came to the U.S. from Syria fleeing the very oppression and religious extremism that typifies the Muslim world; who rejects the constant grievance-mongering and endless claims of victimization of Islamic extremists; and who is willing to publicly call out groups like CAIR for their extremist agenda to undermine the very liberties that make us Americans — leading this charge might be one of the most serious challenges that these groups have ever faced.
In the person of Zuhdi Jasser, American Muslim families can find a leader that represents their values and concerns, which presumably differ not at all from the concerns of non-Muslim families — children, jobs, making ends meet. No doubt they are eager for representatives of their community who can speak for them without screeching about Zionists, Palestine, the Crusades, Iraq, Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, and the seemingly endless list of Western iniquities.

1. Benson:If I were running for political office, I’d make the promotion of this film a part of my every campaign statement.
Oct 20, 2008 - 3:27 am 2. Daria:I saw this excellent film at the Muvico in Boca Raton last week. And though I was already well aware of the issues highlighted in the film, it was chilling to watch. My main purpose for attending had been to gauge the reaction of the crowd as we get closer to the scariest election in American history. Most I spoke with were either voting for McCain, or at least considering the possibility. Due to high demand, they actually had two showings. I honestly don’t know how anyone could have left that theater still intending to vote for Obama, if that was indeed their mindset prior to viewing.
But from what I gathered, there are many folks who are under the impression that the Democrat party is still the party of JFK. Sadly, that hasn’t been the case for many, many years. Others need to wake up and realize that social issues like abortion are not the end-all. I happen to be a pro-lifer, but most pro-choice friends of mine agree that we must have some restrictions on abortion. Yet there were older (60s, 70s) women in line who were more obsessed with Roe v. Wade than the threat of radical Jihad.
I did my best to put forth the federalist argument (should be voted upon by the citizens of each state, not decided by activist judges), while emphasizing that neither the President, nor the VP has the power to overturn Roe. But inside my head I was screaming, “Wake up, people!” If the Jihadists have their way, social issues will be a moot point.
Anyway, I have the utmost respect and admiration for Dr. Zudhi Jasser and everyone involved in making this crucial film. All are heroes.
Oct 20, 2008 - 4:14 am 3. Bill in NY:he’s a brave American, and God bless him for his courage and service to his country. I hope he has some heavy duty security. I will buy this DVD and watch it, and tell others I know about it. I think if Obama is elected, we are all about to find out just how this third-Jihad looks as the cultural part of this thing unfolds. All I can say is, batten the hatches, we’re heading in to a major storm… but keep the faith, and we will not only survive but we will come through it and thrive! I think when the vast majority of sheep who think they want socialism get a taste of it with Obama and a Democrat super-majority, they will be shocked into reality… like the old saying says, “a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged by reality”.
Oct 20, 2008 - 4:33 am 4. Daria:Hi Bill,
I’d rather not be forced to live through the Obama tsunami, as I am not so sure we could survive it. It’s amazing — 9/11 happened just seven years ago, not 70! Yet some people just went right back to their 9/10 mentality in spite of the London and Madrid bombings, the attempt on Fort Dix, the London airliner plot to blow up planes over the Atlantic, Theo Van Gogh’s brutal murder, etc., etc.
Maybe it’s difficult for me to comprehend, since I have always been a conservative and a registered Republican from the age of 18. In my opinion, it’s just good, old-fashioned common sense. But the other side runs on pure emotion, making it nearly impossible to reason with them. And of course, the criminal media plays right along.
I weep for my country, but I will keep fighting!
Oct 20, 2008 - 5:31 am 5. Ursa Major:I also fear for the future of the greatest experiment in government the world has ever known. The postmodern deconstructionists who have hijacked the Democrat Party are most useful idiots to the jihadists of the world. I fear for my 12 grandchildren and what the future holds for them.
Oct 20, 2008 - 6:45 am 6. Daria:Hey Ursa,
Excellent point! I would only add that the conservative elites (Noonan, Parker, MacDonald, Brooks, et. al.) who look down their noses at Sarah Palin will also be complicit, should (God forbid!) we end up with a President Obama. We can lump them in with the Left in the “useful idiot” category, at least as far as Election ‘08 is concerned.
You sound a lot like my own mom, who rightly worries for her children and 10 grandchildren.
Wake up, America!
Oct 20, 2008 - 7:23 am 7. Richard:In todays world of information there should be no excuse for ignorance. Oct 20, 2008 - 9:35 am 10. lgkick:The same minds that link Islam to terrorism have linked Obama to terrorism. So how can we trust their judgement on Islam when they are so overtly wrong about Obama? Both are classic cases of guilt by association: since there are muslims who commit horrific actions, therefore Islam is evil and supports terrorism OR since Obama has sit with Ayers on a committee or has had tea with him, therefore he supports his actions. Both arguments can only convince the ignorant people. An informed person on the other hand will examine the evidence that matters the most: that is what Islam says about killing innocent people or what Obama says about Ayers’ actions. The experts in guilt by association, while having the right intentions, lack the intellectual capacity to differentiate between the two: our actions and the actions of those that are in one way or another are connected to us. It is the same poor judgement that frowns upon sitting on the same table with our enemies and advance our national interest wisely and put aside the cowboy mentality that has ruined this country for the past 8 years.

Who tried to blow up planes over the Atlantic with a shoe bomb? Who blew up commuter trains in Madrid? Who blew up the trains on the London Underground? PLEASE try and tell me it was Republicans that pulled all that off! Please!

The end justifies the means. Obama’s life is a jihadists wet dream. Change color on every topic, then when caught lying redirect.
But in the end kill the infadels. In Obama’s case, middle America.
Make no mistake, Obama’s victory or loss will cause riots and American deaths, now and in the future.
Never fear Obama is here.

Qur’an:9:111 “Allah has purchased the believers, their lives and their goods. For them (in return) is the Garden (of Paradise). They fight in Allah’s Cause, and they slay and are slain; they kill and are killed.”
Qur’an 60:4 “We reject you. Hostility and hate have come between us forever, unless you believe in Allah only.’
CAIR exposes themselves by their objections to “Obsession”. The very beginning very clearly states the film is directed at Radical Islamist and then goes the extra mile to state the film in no way is meant as anti Islam and there are plenty of good, peace loving Muslims. All the sited examples in the film are acts of terrorism and hate speech. By objecting to the movie, CAIR is telling you who they are. There’s no logical explanation for not endorsing that film. I can’t wait to see this new film.
Oct 20, 2008 - 1:23 pm 15. Zeph:This is clear proof that there is no room for rights-violating organizations such as CAIR in this nation. Someone ought to use their own tactics against them and introduce massive lawsuits against them, their individual founders and their partners.

Great idea. It worked against some of those white supremicist groups down south.
Oct 20, 2008 - 2:28 pm 17. Benson:The assertion that the link between Islam and terrorism is invalid and bigoted is breathtakingly ignorant.
Muslims are terrorists because they obey their creator, which is to say they are terrorists because they are Koran-believing Muslims.
The holy scriptures of Islam are Allah’s commandments to humanity. Those scriptures are inerrant. They explicitly and unambiguously require the faithful to fight the infidel, and, as one author has put it, they make suicide in the service of Allah a job opportunity.
Fortunately millions of nominal Muslims are sensible enough to keep their heads down. The penalty for leaving Islam is death, so they remain in the faith, while ignoring many of its insane teachings.
Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all Muslims who obey the Koran’s many commands to murder non-Muslims and enslave Christians and Jews are homicidal.
Islam is a death cult. The Koran and hadith are utterly clear on that.
Oct 20, 2008 - 5:00 pm 18. tanstaafl:Effectively, CAIR is a money raising/propaganda arm of Hamas and Hezbollah. Its head spokesguy recently disavowed “terrorism” (sure, one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter) while unable to find anything negative to say about Hamas and Hezbollah.
Another charming fellow, Omar Bakri, tossed out of Great Britain in 2005 (he and his family had collected egregious payments in British welfare and was PO’ed when he was exiled to Lebanon and forced off the dole)
“soft” jihad isn’t very soft and has little to do with culture, except the agenda of destroying whatever western culture it’s operating inside of.

Oct 20, 2008 - 5:13 pm 19. lgkick:Benson,
“Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all Muslims who obey the Koran’s many commands to murder non-Muslims and enslave Christians and Jews are homicidal.”
What is the practical conclusion of such a theory? That if Muslims obey the Quran (which they are required to), then they are terrorists. If a Muslim does not obey the Quran, then he is not a Muslim. It is not like Christianity where you can pretty much deny everything in the Bible and go against every biblical order and still think of yourself as a christian. So the practical conclusion is that all Muslims are terrorists. It is a deadly statement and can restrict the freedom of religion in this country. The terrorists can’t win by killing us but they will win by dividing this nation based on political views and religious views, by pushing some of us to be intolerant of others because of their religion, etc. By preaching that Islam supports terrorism, we increase the number of people that we consider ‘the enemy’ and it generates more hatred and that will make your statement a self-fulfilling prophecy. Let’s not be confused. Let’s focus and recognize the true enemy which is Al-Qaida and the extremist militant version of Wahabism. Spreading the war from Afghanistan to Iraq was a result of such confusion and we can see its results today.

Oct 20, 2008 - 11:23 pm 25. Brett_McS:lgkick: Islam is more a political project than a religion.
Think about it: What is the one guaranteed way a Muslim can enter paradise? To kill, or be killed in waging Jihad (fighting the Infidel). (Saying prayers, doing the Haj etc, help, but do not guarantee a place)
And what is the Islamic paradise? It’s a brothel.
Clearly, this is a religion in service of creating and motivating an army of young men.
Oct 21, 2008 - 3:51 am 26. Benson:Quoting lgkick, with responses:
“If a Muslim does not obey the Quran, then he is not a Muslim.”
Some make that claim; in truth, however, millions of Muslims do not obey the order of Allah to murder and enslave non-Muslims. That irritates bin Laden, but it’s a fact.
“It is not like Christianity where you can pretty much deny everything in the Bible and go against every biblical order and still think of yourself as a christian.”
Islam is a faith that many Muslims pay little serious attention to, merely going along in order to avoid trouble and keep up appearances. Go to mosque, chat with imam, get on with life. There are regions in the Balkans where Muslim communities cheerfully ignore the blood-and-damnation insanity of the Koran, and Muslims respect and befriend Jews. In spite of Islam, these are good people. And they are Muslims.
“By preaching that Islam supports terrorism, we increase the number of people that we consider ‘the enemy’…”
Anyone who wishes to know exactly what Islam supports should not listen to what is “preached” by non-Muslims. Here’s the drill:
What is Islam? Submission to the will of the creator. What is the will of the creator? It is expressed in his commandments. Where are they to be found? In the Koran and hadith. So: the curious should go to the source. The holy scriptures of the religion are the ultimate and unique authority, inerrant and eternal. It’s all there, and the evil is clearly stated and easy to understand. Islam demands submission/obedience, and is very specific in its requirement that the faithful wage literal war on unbelievers. Islam does not just support terrorism — the death cult requires it of Muslims.
Many millions of Muslims do not honor this appalling requirement.
These are facts. Of course flat-earthers still carry on with their nonsense, so we note in passing that not everyone understands or accepts facts. So be it; ignorance — inadvertent or willful — and defective intellect do not negate truth. We are done here.

That was/is Al Qaeda’s plan in Iraq, foment Sunni/Shi’ite division and internecine civil war. Destabilize, divide and conquer.
And what is the Islamic paradise? It’s a brothel.
Indeed. Reclining on bejeweled couches beside rivers of wine while dark eyed houris (re-hymenating virgins, whatever) drop luscious morsels of food into your mouth.
And what’s up with the “rivers of wine” ? Islamists everywhere today conduct jihad against liquor stores, from Baghdad to Oakland CA. You’d think that if The Prophet (PBUH) was OK with wine (maybe that’s wHine) that radical Islamists (and Farrakhan’s bow-tied Muslim Brotherhood boyz in the hood) wouldn’t get their shorts in a knot over alcohol so much.
Oct 21, 2008 - 7:41 am 29. tanstaafl:Some make that claim; in truth, however, millions of Muslims do not obey the order of Allah to murder and enslave non-Muslims. That irritates bin Laden, but it’s a fact.
It is a fact. What we would call good Muslims (those who don’t think the Angel Gabriel’s admonition to kill us Unbelievers is such a hot idea), bin Laden and Co. would call bad or impure Muslims. Actually, if Muslims don’t go along with the literal word of the Koran and/or if they happen to be of the Shi’ite branch, bin Laden and Co. don’t even consider them Muslims at all.
That’s how al Zarqawi’s plan in Iraq could be based on the slaughter of Shi’ites. Even al Zawahiri tried to rein in that violent, Jordanian criminal.
Oct 21, 2008 - 7:59 am 30. David H:“that is what Islam says about killing innocent people…”, well if you study Islam in detail you soon work out that the verse does not say that at all, when you look at other definitions of what is the greatest crime in Islam, unbelief or spreading mischief in the land in other words doing anything that could be taken as blocking Islam, working from that an innocent in terms of Islam is not what you or I would define as an innocent, an innocent in Islamic terms is a devout Muslim.
Oct 21, 2008 - 11:36 am 31. lgkick:Benson,
“Islam demands submission/obedience, and is very specific in its requirement that the faithful wage literal war on unbelievers. Islam does not just support terrorism — the death cult requires it of Muslims.”
This is of course false. Islam only allows self-defense and even in that it urges self-restraint and justice. For example:
“Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors. And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.” [Quran 2:190-191]
What we usually hear is “kill them wherever you catch them” which is taken out of context. The verse is clearly talking about self defense. If a foreign army occupies the US, would you sit down and submit? It is the interpretation of this verse that could distinguish between the extremists and the regular people. The extremists will consider the US an occupying force in Iraq and Afghanistan and will use this verse to justify their war against the US and whoever cooperates with its army. The moderates on the other hand don’t consider the US an occupying force and so this verse does not apply. They argue that the US forces are in a contract with a muslim government to bring security to Iraq and Afghanistan and so fighting against them is the same as fighting against a muslim army. This is why the centers of both major sects of Islam are reluctant to issue a fatwa against the american forces. These are scholars of Islam and they don’t think muslims should fight the US forces. Do you think you know better than them? I wonder why some people insist that the true Islam is violent and favors killing. Are you trying to tell them that by not fighting the US forces they are not being true muslims? Are you trying to make more enemies for the US? Is this your idea of being a true patriot?

Oct 21, 2008 - 5:26 pm 33. smutna:comment on lgkick….about associations…how can the point be missed all the time? Obama partnership with Bill Ayers was not at a distance, not mere acknowledgment of his existence…there was and still IS fundamental sharing of ideology! Let’s not disregard what the foundations, that both of the men supported, stood for!! What the “reform” represented was ideological brainwashing of the young to gain and strengthen one radical power — at the expense of historical fact. All that is born out of pure hatred, guilt and misguided fear towards ourselves.
Oct 21, 2008 - 7:40 pm 34. tanstaafl:The extremists will consider the US an occupying force in Iraq and Afghanistan and will use this verse to justify their war against the US and whoever cooperates with its army.
Well, somebody should tell “the extremists” (and Islamic scholars “interpreting” the Koran) that unprovoked attacks on the United States led directly to the presence of US and other troops in Afghanistan. Afghanistan, BTW, where the “extremist” Osama bin Laden and Taliban friends held their fellow Muslims in terror, just as they hold the tribespeople in Waziristan in terror at present.
I read through the Koran twice and was struck by the rather intense dislike Allah has for the Unbelievers and Infidels. Which I found to be a perfectly absurd premise, albeit one which served Mohammed well during his 6th and 7th century sojourn on this Earth.
Oct 22, 2008 - 7:56 am 35. Michael Canzano:Islam by its very nature hates Infidels. Infidels comprise the rest of the Non Muslim world. The following applies to both Muslims and Infidels…”Assimilation Refusal” is the first seed planted to overthrow a Nation. Any Nation accepting “Assimilation Refusal” as politically correct will eventually no longer be its own Nation. Infidels must not adopt Islam even under the threat of death they impose upon us for refusal. Perhaps Infidels should threaten Muslims with the same death threat for non assimilation into the “Infidel World” ?

The film begins with Jasser saying, “But you know the struggle of the 21st century against radical Islam is about… the country that I love… If I don’t try to fix this and talk about an Islam that is different than the violence and the radicalism of the Islamists and the jihadists, I will leave nothing for my children and my family in the future. And that’s what I want to leave behind.”
Jasser and this film are doomed to irrelevance.
America was founded on the principle of reason, not faith. Faith is belief without evidence while reason is the natural human process of integrating the material provided by our senses. Faith is inimical to reason, and that is why the Founding Fathers (deists, not theists) mandated separation of church and state - there can be no rational resolution possible when men abandon reason; only those with the biggest club can dictate obedience to their views - by everyone else who is a mindless slave - as in Iran today.
Please quit trying to reconcile mysticism and reason by championing so-called pro-American mystics. Under the constitutionally limited republic and capitalism created by our Founding Fathers, individuals are free to worship as they please, but their mystical beliefs are never of ANY consequence in society, law, business or government.

Oct 23, 2008 - 8:55 am 39. Abdul:You call Dr. Zuhdi Jasser a “mainstream Muslim leader”. Alas, you are so, so wrong! Dr. Jasser may be a Muslim even though he has renounced the ummah as his primary loyalty, and even though he denounces the ulema, the religious leaders, and political Islam. But, Dr. Jasser is NOT a leader of anything because he has practically no following. And he is definitely NOT mainstream. The Muslim community has practically ostracized him; the imams call him “extremist” — because of his loyalty to America instead of to the ummah.
Dr. Jasser is doing courageous work in exposing political Islam, but we must not get our hopes up that he represents the Muslim community. He doesn’t!
Oct 28, 2008 - 1:43 pm 40. Abdul:Igkick writes: “Islam only allows self-defense and even in that it urges self-restraint and justice.” This is false. Islamic doctrine fully accepts the “offensive jihad” and not only “defensive jihad”.
Sunni Sheik of the Grand Mosque of Mecca says:
“The meaning of the term ‘terror’ used by the media… is Jihad for the sake of Allah. Jihad is the peak of Islam. Moreover, some of the clerics … see it as the sixth pillar of Islam. Jihad –whether Jihad of defense of Muslims and of Islamic lands such as in Chechnya, the Philippines, and Afghanistan, or Jihad aimed at spreading the religion — is the pinnacle of terror, as far as the enemies of Allah are concerned. The Muhajeed who goes out to attain a martyr’s death or victory and returns with booty is a terrorist as far as the enemies of Allah are concerned… Jihad is the peak of Islam… Jihad, oh believers, is an integral part of our religion. The word ‘terror’ is used to damage this mighty and blessed foundation.” — Sheikh Wajdi Hamza Al-Ghazawi, Al-Manshawi Mosque, Mecca, October 6, 2001.
Ayatollah Khomeini said:
“Islam makes it incumbent on all adult males, provided they are not disabled or incapacitated, to prepare themselves for the conquest of countries so that the writ of Islam is obeyed in every country in the world. . . . But those who study Islamic Holy War will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world. . . . Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! Does this mean that Muslims should sit back until they are devoured by [the unbelievers]? Islam says: Kill them, put them to the sword and scatter [their armies]…. Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for the Holy Warriors! There are hundreds of other [Qur'anic] psalms and Hadiths [sayings of the Prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all this mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim.”
IBN KHALDUN sais:
The famous fourteenth-century Arab-Moslem scholar, historian, sociologist and philosopher, Ibn Khaldun, whom Bernard Lewis described as “the greatest historian of the Arabs and perhaps the greatest historical thinker of the Middle Ages” categorically stated:
“In Islam the jihad is prescribed by law, because it has a universal calling and is supposed to convert all of humanity to Islam, be it of their own free will, or by force”;
The Koran says:
Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and God’s religion shall reign supreme. (8:40)
Fight against them until idolatry is no more and God’s religion reigns supreme. (2:193)
Do they seek for other than the Religion of Allah? — while all creatures in the heavens and on earth have submitted to Him, willingly or by compulsion? To Him shall they return. (3:83)
Muslim scholar Muhammad Sa‘id Ramadan al-Buti, a contemporary Al-Azhar University scholar, wrote that “the verse (9:5) does not leave any room in the mind to conjecture about what is called defensive war. This verse asserts that holy war, which is demanded in Islamic law, is not a defensive war because it could legitimately be an offensive war. That is the apex and most honorable of all holy wars. Its goal is the exaltation of the word of God, the construction of Islamic society, and the establishment of God’s kingdom on earth regardless of the means. It is legal to carry on an offensive holy war.”
The Saudi ambassador to America said in November 2003:
The Muslims are required to raise the banner of Jihad in order to make the Word of Allah supreme in this world, to remove all forms of injustice and oppression, and to defend the Muslims.
Abul Maududi, one of the most prolific and widely read Islamic writers of the 20th Century wrote:
“The goal of Islam is to rule the entire world and submit all of mankind to the faith of Islam. Any nation or power that gets in the way of that goal, Islam will fight and destroy.”
Muhammad said: “I have been ordered to fight with the people till they say, “None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and whoever says, ” None has the right to be worshipped but Allah , his life and property will be saved by me.” (otherwise it will not). Vol. 4:196
Surely, none of this sounds defensive. But, no doubt, Igkick’s Islamic credentials are greater than the Koran, Muhammad, Khomeini, Maududi and the other Islamic scholars.

Who is the real terrorist?
The Human Rights Foundation condemns the unjustified war assault upon the poor, innocent and defenceless people in Afghanistan. This is an unjust war being waged by the strongest country in the world against the poorest country in the world. The US has contemptously rejected many appeals to prove their case against Osma Bin Laden in an independant international court. Surely the US has nothing to fear if its case is as watertight as it would lead us to believe? Or are the public concerns expressed by US officials about the “holes” in their evidence the main reason for the US to refuse this request. Is George Bush junior any different from his father who said “I will never apologise for the United States of America. I don’t care what the facts are” (George Bush (snr) ( “The Rogue State”, William Blum)
The entire basis for the war is unproven allegations which rightly should have been submitted to an impartial independent court such as the International Court of Justice ( ICJ). It is interesting that the US and Israel are the two countries which have been most reluctant to give their support to the establishment of the International Criminal Court which could also have had jurisdiction.
The U.S. attack is not war but a reckless, emotional act of revenge under the banner of fighting for freedom and human rights. “US Policy, under the banners of freedom and human rights, has led to barbarous criminal acts” Institute for Policy Studies, Washington.
It must be remembered that the attack on the Twin Towers was not perpetrated by the government of Afghanistan. The attack was by alleged individuals. War is a state of hostilities between two countries. Instead of attacking the perpetrators for an alleged “war” on the U.S. ( which the Twin Towers attack was not ) the U.S. has declared war on the government and people of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan is so hopelessly outmatched by the superior military capability of the US that it is effectively a mass murder and a slaughter of the innocents. George Bush has said that he wants Osma Bin Laden “Dead or Alive”as in the days of the Wild West.
The U.S. attack on Afghanistan is not even a terrorist attack - it is worse. “Terrorist attacks” by ‘freedom fighters’ are attacks by the weak designed to draw attention to a just cause and are usually resorted to by people who have exhausted all other means to draw attention to injustices and oppression. Our own history shows that the US and the apartheid regime in South Africa called the ANC a ‘terrorist organisation’ while we called them ‘freedom fighters’. The US has a perverted sense of values: It was the strongest ally of the former apartheid regime in SA and responsible for the arrest and imprisonment Nelson Mandela for 27 years as a result of the provision of intelligence by the CIA to the former apartheid government. The US voted against many resolutions at the United Nations which sought to impose sanctions against apartheid South Africa. This is the same US which claims to act in the interests of worldwide “freedom and democracy”
We must not lose sight of the important distinction between a “freedom fighter” and a “terrorist” or we will fall into the US propaganda trap of demonizing all people (as well as their “moral supporters” and the countries in which they live in and the religion they happen to follow) who have no other option but to use “terrorist activity” as a political weapon. The US has made it clear that it will not distinguish between the “terrorist” and the country that “harbours” a terrorist. What does this mean? It means that any country in which there are known “terrorists” (by the US definition of terrorist which conveniently excludes itself and its allies ) is a potential target for “anti-terrorist activity” The US conducts its own covert operations ( “US terrorist activity” ? ) by allocating a budget of $30 Billion for this purpose. We need to differentiate between “harbouring” a terrorist and the need to request proof of the guilt of a person before action is taken.
History will record the mass murder and terror in Afghanistan by the U.S. ( which CNN prefers to refer to as the “War on Terror” ) as a shameful event in the history of mankind. The due process of law has not been followed and the US has assigned to itself the role of judge, jury and executioner against an entire country. Once a court has found and convicted the true perpetrators of the attacks than the appropriate punishment should be meted out to the real perpetrators. Prior to this any act of aggression and death caused is illegal and is nothing less than the murder of innocent people.
The US is using sophisticated computer controlled gunships in an international posse of countries involved in a wild-west style manhunt to “smoke out” their prey, such passion unbecoming of a world leader purporting to believe in civilised values. What the US is doing in Afghanistan is a systematic campaign of terror on a far more concerted basis than what it accuses the terrorists of the September 11 attack. The difference is that they do not care if the accused is guilty; nor do they care how many innocent civilians they kill in achievieng their military, economic and strategic objectives in the region. An indication of the continuing callous attitude of the U.S. is the reponse of Colin Powel in respect of question posed to him on the number of Iraqi’s killed in the Gulf War when he said, “Its really not a number I’m terribly interested in” William Blum in “Rogue State” believes that if a list had to be compiled of Amercian leaders guilty of crimes against humanity, Colin Powel may be one of them. The deaths of civilians in this unjust war is referred to as ‘collateral damage” by the US.
According to UN reports the effect of the war has caused a humanitarian crisis potentially affecting between 4-7 million civilians who face not only starvation but the effects of exposure to icy cold weather without any form of heating and medical supplies. The US, in order to mute world condemnation and in an attempt to win over the suffering people resorts to the insulting use of scattering haphazardly food for 37 000 people when those starving are in excess of 4 million. Before the war, aid agencies at least ensured that all those who needed food received it. However the actions of the U.S. has disrupted supply of aid and misinformed the public of the true humanitarian impact of the war reflecting the dishonesty of the U.S. in claiming concern for the Afghanistan people.
The Mute Complicity of the Media
The atrocities committed by certain nations often receive only passing attention. The media attention to the Twin Towers attack was of course necessary. However what is to be condemned and exposed is the lack of any attention by the mainstream media to atrocities of a similar or far greater magnitute in the the past 10 - 20 years, significant of which is the horrendous bombing of Iraq which led to the death of over 1.5 million people over the next 10 years and to this day the strangulating economic sanctions imposed by the US and UN on Iraq are the cause of the painful and excruciating deaths of 5000 children every month. Do you know what the impact is on a mother to watch a child die a long excruciating painful death due to starvation?
Every month 5000 children die in this cruel, inhuman way and the world does not even take notice.
Are they any less worthy of our attention than the 5000 people who died on September the 11th?
Do you know the psychological impact of being in Afghanistan at present when every moment of the day is like playing a game of Russian Roulette? When you have no idea when the next bomb will ‘accidentally’ miss its target and destroy your home? When you have nowhere to run because the borders are sealed? Besides an entire city in Afghanistan has no electricity and water as a result of the destruction of its infrastructure. This alone will cause countless deaths over the coming weeks. The refugee crisis is mounting and there are several hundred thousand refugees who have nowhere to go since all borders have been sealed.
“We will never see the smoke, and the fire, we never smell the blood, we never see the terror in the eyes of children, whose nightmares will now feature screaming missiles from unseen terrorists, known only as Americans” Martin Kelly (see Rogue State)
“It is a scandal in contemporary international law, that while “wanton destruction of towns , cities and villages ” is a war crime of long standing , the bombing of cities from airplanes goes not only unpunished but virtually unaccused.
Air bombardment is state terrorism, the terrorism of the rich. It has burned up and blasted apart more innocents in the past six decades than have all the antistate terrorists who ever lived.
Something has benumbed our consciousness against this reality. In the United States we would not consider for the presidency a man who had once thrown a bomb into a crowded restaurant , but we are happy to elect a man who once dropped bombs from airplanes that destroyed not only restaurants but the buildings that surrounded them. I went to Iraq after the Gulf War and saw for myself what the bombs did ; “wanton destruction” is just the term for it.”
-C.Douglas Lummis, political scientist. ( as quoted in “Rogue State”, William Blum )
