UC Irvine Still Enforcing Sharia Law

Administrators are either clueless about radical Islam's foothold on campus or determined to create an environment in which supporters of terrorism can thrive. Take your pick.

The University of California-Irvine is a sprawling campus in Orange County. The institution, located between the Santa Ana Mountains and the shore of the Pacific Ocean, is not only home to some of the best minds in science and engineering, but also to some of the most virulent supporters of radical Islam in America — and a school administration bent on capitulating to them.

The university’s Muslim Student Union (MSU) holds several annual events, at which members unashamedly voice support for terrorist groups and denounce Israel, America, and the Western world. Past events hosted during the group’s annual anti-Israel week have had titles such as “Hamas: the People’s Choice” and “Israel: The 4th Reich.” Speakers have included Norman Finkelstein, Ward Churchill, and Anna Balzter.

This year, from May 7-15, the MSU hosted a series of programs entitled “Never Again? The Palestinian Holocaust.” As they have done in the past, the MSU appropriated ideas of genocide in order to promote their radical ideology.

The featured speaker last Thursday, May 15, was Amir Abdel Malik-Ali, a radical imam from Oakland who is all too familiar to UCI students. Malik-Ali frequently engages in anti-Western rhetoric and is a vocal supporter of terrorist groups. Not only has he praised Hamas, Hezbollah, and the mujahadeen in Afghanistan as “Islamic resistance” movements struggling against Western “oppressors,” he has called any scrutiny of these terror groups mere “propaganda.” Following Ali’s speeches to UCI’s MSU, the audiences of keffiyah-wearing Muslim students always repetitively recite the battle cry “Takbir! Allahu Akbar!” This year’s audience was no different.

While his rhetoric is lurid and apocalyptic, Malik-Ali’s speech is protected under the First Amendment. What’s alarming is the administration’s willingness to enforce the MSU’s prerogatives on other students who attend their events — hence the application of Sharia law where the Bill of Rights is applicable. For example, while videotaping Malik-Ali’s speech, we were confronted by a school administrator. Dean of Student Services Sally Peterson told us that, on behalf of the male students, we would have to stop filming the female activists, or as she called them “the sisters.” Aware of our rights, we refused her orders and continued covering the event.

As we continued our coverage of the festivities, members of the MSU ultimately decided to enforce what appears to be their own principle of just retribution. After Thursday’s event, the MSU walked up and down the main campus road chanting anti-Israel slogans and blocking off the entire walkway for several minutes while police and administrators stood by idly.

A male individual, who was filming the hateful procession, had at least three Muslim males charge at him for daring to film as the females from the group walked past. One of the males, a student named Yasser Ahmed who purportedly threw a cinderblock at an FBI vehicle last year, said to the cameraman: “You wanna get jacked! We can go get jacked right now! C’mon Emanuel, we’ve learned a lot about you let’s go! Lets go get jacked, Lets go get jacked!”

The UCI police department treated this incident unprofessionally and took no action. The student journalist gave his statement to a UCI police officer and explained how he was assaulted. The officer then went to take statements from the males MSU members. The police would not, however, take statements from those who witnessed the assault against the student journalist. After the police officer took statements, he told the student journalist that one of the males who charged at him had apologized and that nothing more could be done.

A Christian preacher on campus, Michael Venyah, also had his rights violated last Thursday. This preacher, who believes that all people must accept Jesus in order to get into heaven, began preaching about the prophet Mohammad and his crimes. Evidently, MSU members didn’t like hearing what he had to say and opted for charging and running into him. This was clearly an incident of assault. The cops present did nothing, and Dean of Judicial Affairs Edgar Dormitorio suggested that Mr. Venyah should leave.

Another case of MSU’s vigilantism occurred when a young Jewish female was followed back to her car and surrounded by six members of the MSU. A community member who witnessed the harassment also had her civil rights violated when the Muslim students noticed her. As UC Irvine police offers stood idly by, the Muslim students proceeded to situate themselves on the hood of her car in order to photograph her face, her vehicle identification number, and her license plate. When she later called the police department for answers, they justified the criminal behavior as the culmination of a tit for tat ethnic squabble. Put simply, they justified the need for Muslim students to “vent,” as they were just getting back at the Jews.

One group at UC Irvine has monopolized freedom of speech and expression. MSU organizers have taken it upon themselves to restrict the freedoms of others on the university campus and have managed to avoid significant criticism from the administration. Conversely, those who voice concern over MSU’s actions are depicted as stirring up trouble.

UCI administrators have not been helpful. Chancellor Robert M. Berdahl of UC Berkeley signed a letter, published in the New York Times, warning against anti-Zionist and anti-Jewish activity on campus. UC Irvine’s then-chancellor, Ralph Cicerone, refused to sign this letter. The current chancellor at UCI has called hate speech “repugnant,” but has refused to specify which group was responsible for hate speech and has been unable to ensure a safe environment during the hateful events hosted by the MSU.

The administration at UC Irvine has sent a clear message to the MSU: incitement and harassment against Jews, Israel, and America is acceptable on campus and will not incur consequences.

Jonathan Constantine Movroydis, a senior at UCI, is a staff writer for RedCounty.com. Reut Cohen recently graduated from UCI, where she ran a blog to document the ‘anti-Israel,’ anti-Semitic and anti-American incidents on campus.

What is wrong with this campus? And what is wrong with the people of Irvine? Allowing these radical fascists to overrun the campus is tantamount to being a traitor to this country. We need to start writing to our congressman about this. Who funds this school? Funding should be immediately revoked and remain revoked until someone gets their heads out of their collective be butts. These radicals cannot be allowed a pass and all should be deported.

The consensus view of the intellectual elite is that America is a racist nation and must pay for its sins. White individuals by definition are perceived to be guilty. The resulting double standard essentially gives a free pass to racists who are “people of color.” The administrators of academic institutions such as UC Irvine are unlikely to eradicate reverse racism. The odds of this possibly occurring are next to zero. No. it will have to be resolved by outsiders—and please don’t let anyone con you into believing otherwise. At the end of the day, the insiders will do virtually nothing. I once again recommend reading Donald Alexander Downs’ CORNELL ‘69 Liberalism and the Crisis of the American University. This work will clearly show that academic political correctness did not begin yesterday morning. Sadly, the decline started nearly four decades ago! It is now well established.

Excellent post. From what I have heard, Cicerone was a complete empty suit.

Let’s call it what it is. The MSU is conducting itself like a 5th column. I seriously question their allegiance to this country. If any of you folks in the MSU are reading this, I would love to hear your reply telling me I am wrong. Let’s set aside Hizbollah and Hamas. Tell me that you condemn Al-Qaida, and that you would defend America against those killers. I am waiting. I am even holding my breath.

Reut and Johnathan are absolutely right. I have been teaching at UCI part-time for 10 years. Not only is this a bastion of msu radicalism, but it is alloweded by the university administration. They are afraid of the msu-and even give them funding from student tuition funds.

When I wrote my concerns, to the Orange County Human Relations Commission director, Rusty Kennedy, he wrote me a nasty email back for criticizing the UCI administration. He thinks all is well at uci.

I have written extensively on this issue on my own blog-fousesquawk. The public needs to be aware of what is happening on this campus.

Somebody needs to give David Horowitz a call. Or maybe FIRE. This “university” badly needs to be sued.

Once it becomes optional for a university to choose when and where the Bill of Rights will be enforced we have the beginnings of the protection of HATE. Hate can only be countered by being pointed out and challenged.

The University administrators are engaged in appeasement…they must be followers of Barry O.

“Takbir! Allahu Akbar! God damn America!”
UC Irvine (what about Columbia U and other campuses?) fosters a culture of unwarranted revanchism, anti-semitism and upheaval which is part and parcel of the wild sixties’ nihilism which, as we all know, is regarded with much sympathy in today’s society.
With Ayres, Wright and Hayden as revered symbols of a living past, can one realistically expect president Obama to regard Iran’s game other than warranted and legitime? Or to pardon Mumia Jabal? Or to work for a financial compensation for all of African-slaves descent in the US?
The list of goals for someone whose mind can accomodate the “God damn America!” is vast, and, unfortunately those goals are within reach.
And we deserve that - after all, we are the bad guys, aren’t we?

Stories like this make it easy to understand why it is so easy for a growing number of people to hate the police as a class, a few exceptional individuals notwithstanding. Who wants to bet that those cops would have gone into action if a non-Muslim student group had fought back and brawled with the MSU? The police in cases like this are worse than useless, and are lower than a mafia enforcer.

Multi-culturalism and political correctness as it’s practiced on too many American campuses, presents those concious enough to see it, as a social cancer metastisizing. American universities will not move against Muslims because the universities are taking oil money from the Saudis and other Islamic peoples. Universities are being paid to Islamicize. That’s what they’re doing. They’re being paid to become hotbeds of anti-Semitism. That’s what they’re doing. They’re being paid to become noxious sewers of anti-Americanism. That’s what they’re doing. The universities in America are the new front of the soft jihad to weaken and destroy American civilization. Since university presidents like money–they get strokes as fundraisers from the boards of trustees–they will take money and America and western culture can go hang. It is not incidental that the rise of anti-Semitism on campus goes hand in hand with the influx of petro-dollars from the mid-East. Follow the money. My big question concerning the influence of mid-East dollars on American society is this: is Saudi Arabia or some other group secretly funding environmental groups which have stood in the way of American energy independence?

My wife and I have walked around UC Irvine for over 2 decades as a nightly exercise. One Saturday night last year we were, as usual, walking on the “ring road” which is the main pedestrian road around the campus. Near the humanities building, a group of about 10 Islamics, whose women were dressed in head scarfs and long robes, were having some kind of party or celebration on the side of the path itself, which is aproximately 50 feet wide at that point. As we approached, several male members of the party arrayed themselves directly in our path. I assumed this wasn’t on purpose and smiled at them as we came up. As we came close enough to see their faces clearly, it was apparent that they were staring at us with some of the most palpable hatred my wife and I have ever experienced. We hurried away and cut our walk short. Since then we avoid anything that looks like a gathering of these folk.

My question is this: where did these people come from in general? Palestine? Egypt? Syria? Iraq? Who’s paying their way to an education here? Some years back, UCI rebuilt the main plaza and emplaced a statue of what appears to be a Muslim praying in the direction of Mecca. I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but right after that, a large number of middle eastern Islamics appeared, and quotes from the Quran began being posted weekly on the campus bridges.

I don’t begrudge anyone an education, but I think some accountability is in order for why my wife and I are being accosted by hostile fundamentalists on California state property.

Hey, leave the MSA alone. They are doing great work! Thanks to them and USC we have much of the ahadith online.

Because of MSA it is possible to make a reference to the murders, raids, plunder, enslavement, torture, rape and wife-beating done by Mohammad and his men AND LINK DIRECTLY to the “Authentic” Islamic traditions about the great man that Muslims love, respect and consider a moral example (to be emulated!).

I have used their site so many times, especially with Muslims. Of course, Muslims then usually erase my comments or say that I am a bigoted, racist, an islamophobe and that I really don’t know nothing about the pure, beauty of Islam. Bla Bla Bla….

Oh course, nothing ever changes because Muslims don’t want to talk about the hate and violence in the Quran and hadith. They are either ignorant (best case), in denial (most) or deceitful (all Imams and leaders).

The news is bad. Things are going to get worse because Muslims don’t want to consider the dark soul of Islam, its history and practice. The future will not be nice — believe me, I know. I have tried to ask Muslims the questions they don’t want to hear and the news is not good. They are not honest about their religion.

Watch and see.

And why do we not see a report of this in the regular media???? Because America is completely unaware of moslims in their country that is more than willing to kill any American (no not just Jews.

I suggest everybody takes a good hard look at the situation in Europe right now, with some countries having 10% moslims in their midst who are unwilling to integrate and instead want the Europeans to conform to their culture. It is already frowned upon to walk around in shorts in Holland (uh yes…..for men!!), art exposing a naked breast is forbidden and a cartoonist was put in jail for drawing an offensive cartoon (yes, offensive to moslims). In order to find some acceptance, the government tries to install the idea that moslims saved us from the Germans instead of the Americans. If America does not stop this and continues to think like UC Irvinde, this will happen all over America pretty soon as well.

May 23, 2008 - 6:57 pm Noes:

@K
What you experienced is going on in every European city as wel speak. Small groups of moslims terrorizing the people on the street. They hate the Western population and feel it is their right that the dhimmis (as they see it) give their wallet and stay away from streets that they want to occupy. Soon in America, unless we wake up.

Mind you, the local and political correct officials AGREED about the removal of the paintings to another place within the building.

Sahih Bukhari 5.234
Narrated Aisha:

The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of SIX (years). My mother came to me while I was PLAYING IN A SWING with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, NOT KNOWING what she wanted to do to me. UNEXPECTEDLY Allah’s Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of NINE years of age.

The ‘prophet’ wants to ‘marrie’ a CHILD, and gets his evil way. The child? did not even have a CHOICE!

(Volume 3, Book 46, Number 717: sahih muslim)
‘the Prophet had SUDDENLY attacked Bani Mustaliq WITHOUT WARNING while they were heedless and their cattle were being watered at the places of water. Their fighting men were KILLED and their WOMAN and children were taken as CAPTIVES;

The PROPHET GOT JUWAIRIYA ON THAT DAY.’

on the same day he killed her town, her family, her husband, the horny prophet would like FUCK her! THE BLOOD OF HER HUSBAND HE KILLED NOT EVEN DRY!

the prophet of islam??!

Word of god to ALL muslims (4:34):

“Men have authority over women because God has made the one SUPERIOR to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are OBEDIENT. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you FEAR disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and BEAT (!) them. Then if they OBEY you, take no further action against them. Surely God is high, supreme.”

The fact is that nothing can be legally done to stop these Muslim extremists from spewing their hate and creating an anti-Western and antisemitic environent on campus. So long as they are not actually physycally assaulting people, the authorities are virtually powerless to act as the constitution does protect ALL free speech.
The answer is not to whine about how terriblethis is. What we need to do is use their methods and fight fire with fire. We need to get hundreds of tough young Jewish men out on that campus ready to take them on. Let’s creat an environment at UCI that is very unwelcoming to muslims. Let’s express our freedom of speech and exclaim that “Mohammed is a Pig!”

We will be well withing our constitutional rights and the tables will have been turned on them.

K, you might want to read While Europe Slept, by Bruce Bawer. The book is by a brilliant American journalist who is gay and who in the book describes his experiences living in Europe in recent years and observing how the very large and growing Islamic populations there are transforming the atmosphere of Europe through the kinds of intimidation you experienced on the ring road. What happened to you is in accord with how Islamic law says that non-Muslims are to be treated when Muslims rule. Non-Muslims must move to the side of the road when Muslims are passing. Islamic law, obviously, is not always enforced, but humiliating road laws are a part of Islamic law. Other authors worth reading on what Islam means for non-Muslims: Andrew Bostom, MD, Bat Ye’or, Robert Spencer.

Maybe the Jewish Clubs, the Christian Clubs, and some other sympathetic groups can join together to organize a peaceful, unifying rally denouncing hate speech and reminding the campus of higher, common ideals. If the Jews and Christians are offended by the Radical Muslim hate speech, they should set the example, and be careful not to lower themselves to the same level by “fighting fire with fire.”

If 6 or 8 angry thugs raced up to me and knocked me down, and if those thugs looked exactly like the thugs that killed 3,000 Americans on 9/11/01 I would definately feel like my life was threatened and I’d try to defend myself and make sure those thugs never could do it again…….. to me or to anyone. Stop acting like politically correct wimps people. The reason they act like this is because they can and there are no consequences. It’s clear we can’t depend on the police or the government to protect our civil rights. They only protect the rights of special linterest groups. That’s why it’s not possible to commit a hate crime against a white person, (unless that person is gay). It’s time to let the thugs among us know that there will be consequences for attacks like this.. When they realize the free ride is over they’ll stop. My son’s best friend for the past seven years is Muslim. He plays at their home frequently. Two weeks ago, for the first time, I saw the hatred in his mother’s eyes and facial expression. it irks them so much.

“Sounds like some of these replies in this blog are planted, in order to sow dissention and violence — just the things we don’t need more of. Engage the legal system, appeal to officials as far as possible, and broadcast the news far and wide, if you believe America should be a country of law, based on reason and the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, rather than a survival of the strongest. Vigilantism is simply playing into the hands of the violent.”

What are you talking about? Did it ever dawn on you that the “law” is bringing these savages here in the first place? The 1965 immigration act started bringing Muslims to this country and even led to the death of Bobby Kennedy, as an Arab immigrant shot him.

Our government and the “law” are against us. People have a right to defend themselves against harassment and violence from people who want to enforce Islamic law.

Please spare us your false piety.

I’m am clearly ashamed to say that I was brought up and raised in the area that is now the home of that University. When you are assaulted you take action to protect yourself. If you are outnumbered you take action to even the numbers even if it is to obtain weapons that would allow you to equal the balance of power. If the police, administration and state agencies with that duty to protect you are failing to fullfil that duty, you take it on yourself. Deportation and not accepting fascist islamic organizations is the eventual answer to this problem, but like in all areas of the society that haven’t yet seen this type of attack on your way of life and culture; you haven’t gotten fed up enough. There is a war coming and it only gets here when you fail to stop and expell those who will battle in it, when they first start to show themselves. Don’t wait until they are fully trained terrorist bombers before you act. ACT NOW!

I agree with this article. I saw MSU students harassing an older couple who had to be in their 70’s just because they disagreed with them. And I saw the MSU students calling names at a student who was wearing and iFest shirt (an event that celebrated Israel a week before the MSU hosted its event). Even though the investigation into UCI’s anti-semitism concluded earlier this year as “inconclusive/no-evidence”, I think that there needs to be further study done by an un-biased party, maybe someone outside of Irvine.
