Maybe what we need is the Pain Killer, you know, like Judas Priest's Album? "Chromium plated liquid metal/ brighter than a thousand suns" He could do everything the Pope and other "dark people" loving Catholics won't do, i.e. run over all evil with a circular saw wheeled motorcycle.

#82. Pat, can't you discern between an innocent baby being killed and a murderer being executed? You sound like supreme court material. Someone, please let Obambi know that Pat may be available!

Susan - If you are not a christian, what is your definition of sin or sinner - someone who does not agree with you I'd guess

Having been raised in New York under the auspices of
Bishop Fulton J. Sheehan and of course the beat and learn
system of dutiful nuns, I have some insight as to where
the Catholic Church has turned. Taking a quick turn to
the present, all those so called Catholic persons that
suck up to the minstrel show leader, well they are given
a pass by the Church where as they should be excommunicated. Stating a person who is anathema to
God and His law is lost has some bite but "lets all hug"
well do not do it, hell will be full of people that
will not hug any longer and they will be greived to be
with Obama who by the way if you took off the mask is
really Baghdad Bob.

The truth is most people do not take God seriously, nor
life and death but are simply in love with their sorry
selves. Oh what a terrible day judgement day will be
"weeping and nashing of teeth".

Good luck, God Bless........Bill

# 2, I've found the younger priests to be a lot better than the old ones. I often wonder how many of those over 60 first entered the seminary to avoid the draft and then inertia set in. They seemed to have changed very little in the last 30 years other than their underwear.

My current pastor came to his vocation after 20 years in the military and his sermons are strictly based on the Bible reading for the day with one exception. A few weeks ago he unloaded on Obama's position on abortion. I cringe whenever he goes on vacation because the substitute is likely to be am elderly priest just brimming with the Gospel of Social Justice.

One gray haired substitute was so foul that in the middle of the sermon I very slowly held up the check meant for the collection plate, looked the substitute priest straight in the eye and tore the check into pieces. It caused a few jaws to drop around me, but I figured it was the best way to send the message that I hadn't driven 30 miles to hear all about Karl Marx.

Apparently Mary Grabar is a true American cafeteria Catholic; those aspects of pastoral teaching she agrees with, she embraces (and demands that all others do as well); those she disagrees with, she simply rejects out of hand, and admonishes the bishops and cardinals to see the error of their ways.

She might be well advised to run for Pope: She could then put her own personal stamp on the Magisterium.

G. Alston:

I would think that having David Duke address the 2009 Howard University graduating class would help them understand what they face in the world. :)

#91 -- It is like inviting David Duke to speak at the Howard University Commencement solely to make sure a wide range of views were heard.

Nice line.

I didn't view their decision as being PC so much as a message to the graduates: "this guy represents the real world. You did well in graduating. You have a lot of challenges ahead of you. The real work lies ahead. Listen, my graduates, and learn from this..."

You can say these things but they sound like platitudes. Demonstrating them is not. Most commencement speeches don't seem very inspiring...

Anyway what I originally responded to was the contention that the Univ is obligated to choose from a narrow pool. I think that's a bad move.

G. Alston:

I thought about acknowledging that you were not explicitly making a Free Speech argument but didn't.

I think your expressed point of view is at least implicity drawn from the First Amendment. As a Catholic institution Notre Dame is under obligation to bring speakers to Campus for important functions like Commencement who support and reinforce Catholic teaching and values. There may be a place in sectarian institution to invite an any time, any place, any age supporter of abortion to debate the issue but graduation is not one of them. It is like inviting David Duke to speak at the Howard University Commencement solely to make sure a wide range of views were heard.
