This sad kerfluffle reminds me of the belief in primitive societies that a mirror or a camera would "steal your soul" when it captures your image. Today's ultra-relativists are not far off in their narcissistic insistence on using the intellect to figure everything out creatively. They have no social or spiritual tradition on which to rest, and never will have, because to them, tradition is inherently evil and oppressive.

I feel badly for all those celebrities whose children are photographed without their permission. Talking about celebrities.... The Emmys are coming up soon in September and the hosts are also nominees. Wouldn' that be nerve-wracking?! I can't wait to see.

I see the article says this:

A couple of weeks ago while visiting Cambridge, Massachusetts, my friend was refused permission to take pictures of squealing kids messing around in a park

Funnily enough I am in Boston, Massachusetts, and today I took my children to a paddling pool. After they'd played happily for half an hour several people came over to inform me that a stranger had been videoing my 7 year old the entire time.

When challenged he said he had been videoing her, and it was up to him what he did with the video.

I left feeling sick. My daughter has no legal rights in this - he now has half an hour's worth of video of her in a swimsuit at a paddling pool and I have no idea what he will do with it now.

RE: Oddly Quiet

Interesting, isn't it....

...ddc who cried out that people who addressed her in this venue were cowards because they were ganging up on her poor defenseless person-of-the-female persuasion.

However, when she was asked to identify a venue of her own choosing, she has become VERY 'quiet'.

Can you say, "Gutless wonder"? How about, "I'm a victim. Therefore don't question me"?

I knew you could.

Regards,

Chuck(le)
P.S. ddc...

...you're welcome to visit my venue. Just click on my name.

RE: ddc's Approach to Cameras and Playgrounds

I can imagine the logo of this thread appearing at every public playground in the nation. Then....how would a parent photograph their own child having fun with other children at such a place?

The fascists are amongst US.

ddc wrote, " I have to wonder why the f they ARE taking pictures of my kid. Since it is my kid, i have every right to say cut that shite out, take photos of someone else’s kid who doesn’t mind."

Hmm. AFAIK "shite" is primarily UK usage.

"It’s truly remarkable the insistance at downplaying this so vehemently."

Your own vehemence is what's truly remarkable. Like the note the priest made in his sermon: "Argument weak here, shout like hell."

RE: By the By....

....where's this web-site you're thinking I should engage you and your cisterans in discussion?

I've asked you NUMEROUS times, after your complaint accusing me of 'cowardice'. But for some strange {nudge-nudge, wink-wink} reason, you haven't—to the best of my knowledge—identified any such place.

Why IS that?

Can you say, "Projection"? Vis-a-vis cowardice?

RE: So....

...Maine, according to what I've seen, has gone the proverbial 'step-beyond' and set up their state laws so that anyone can claim someone who takes pictures, or even looks at someone else cross-eyed, is a 'sexual offender'.

This should be an interesting experiment. Let US watch it and see what happens before we rush to replicate this stupidity.
