With Dems Like These, Obama Doesn’t Need Enemies

The more Obama's pals open their mouths, the less reason people have to vote for him.

Then came a pair of outrageously dumb remarks, crossing any reasonable boundaries of good taste. Representative Steve Cohen of Tennessee, a man I’d never heard of and with luck will soon forget, said this on the floor of the House of Representatives: “If you want change, Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus, who our minister just prayed about. Pontius Pilate was a governor.”

So many people attempting to apply the New Testament to American politics remind me of the saying from Confucius that it is “better to be silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.”

Obama doesn’t need yet another Messiah comparison.

Obama doesn’t need a weak and silly comparison between Pontius Pilate and Governor Sarah Palin.

We missed Herod. He could be the small-town Jerusalem mayor. What about Caesar as president … for life?

One could say a real New Testament community organizer with only life on earth on his mind was Barrabas the Zealot. His “organizers” got the crowd to free him and crucify Jesus. One could also say stop trying to compare anyone in the Bible to an American community organizer. It doesn’t work.

How do these comparisons help the campaign of Barack Obama? How about none?

Then, there’s Sandra Bernhard, an actress whose rantings are so racist and vile they won’t be printed without censorship. Let’s just say she’d like her black male friends to meet Palin on a dark street in Manhattan and show her a bad time.

And there’s a range of voices saying whites not voting for Obama must be racist. Ridiculous. That demeans and degrades the nature of his candidacy.

With Dems like this, who needs enemies? They must make the liberals of the past, Hubert H. Humphrey, Henry Jackson, and Robert F. Kennedy, among others, spin in their graves.

Barack Obama must cringe and wish some of his “friends” would crawl back into their shells and go away.

One longs for the return of the civil, “too funny to be president” demeanor of Morris Udall. Who else would have said, “Lord, give us the wisdom to utter words that are gentle and tender, for tomorrow we may have to eat them”? Or fought back criticisms of flip-flopping with: “The ability to change one’s views without losing one’s seat is the mark of a great politician”? We’re missing the capacity to compare and criticize with wit and grace. The “Attack of the Killer Dems” on Sarah Palin, the bottom of the ticket they seem to forget, seems more out of a need to vent their ruptured spleen than to win an election.

The would-be friends of the campaign don’t seem to understand their words blend with the real campaign, giving the public the impression all are one. They don’t help themselves one bit with rhetorical whipsaws from the hateful to the nutty.

Obama needs to tell his “friends” to straighten up and fly right. Those supporters who pass from sanity to derangement in their stridency will blame the candidate if he loses, saying he wasn’t tough enough. But in truth, more and more of them are the bumblers stepping in the paint bucket.

If they form a firing squad, get clear of the circle.

I’m not sure what to say about all this, except that “unexpected spinach” is a very underused phrase in political commentary.

Mr. Shelton,

Agreed, the above-listed pinheads ooze drivel.

Unfortunately, you do not include the more-venemous rubbish spewed out of the Flat Line Media’s mouth.

While “in the tank for Obama” seems to be the phrase du jour, it saddens me, as “Iron Curtain journalism” would be more fitting.

It would be most helpful to America and Americans to shed light on this troubling “trend.”

Oct 1, 2008 - 1:21 am 3. RE:

One does has to wonder why it is that the scum scum of the earth prefer Obama. From Hamas to Olbermann, Chavez, and Ghadafi, they love the guy.

That speaks volumes.

“Obama needs to tell his “friends” to straighten up and fly right.”

the fact that he does not is the real story here.

Sandra Bernhardt has the ugliest mouth I’ve ever seen and you don’t have to hear what she’s said to recoil. Ugh!!!!

This election will prove Stalin right. It doesn’t matter who votes. It matters who counts the votes.

Oct 1, 2008 - 4:07 am 7. Perry:

These are all amateurs compared to Obama’s “official” supporters, Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, Michael Pfleger, William Ayers, and Rashid Khalidi - America haters all.

That this politician with this background could gain such a massive following in a nation which sets standards for the rest of the world is nothing less than a travesty.

I am truly frightened by the American electorate. Could you imagine the Republicans running a white-skinned blue-eyed blond-haired guy named Schmidt who has a lot of buddies who “used to be” Nazis?

SICK.

Oct 1, 2008 - 5:48 am 8. RPL:

If it’s true that Pilate was a governor, it must be remembered that he voted “present” when faced with a tough decision.

Oct 1, 2008 - 6:04 am 9. Andrew:

But whose reporting these comments? Aren’t they being confined to a particular echo chamber? It really doesn’t matter to B.O.’s image if these things aren’t reported to a much wider audience. So if a nasty negative comment falls in the forest, and the MSM doesn’t report it, does anyone hear it?

Oct 1, 2008 - 6:11 am 10. Ryan Small:

SandraM,

How does Sandra Bernhardt mouthing off prove “It doesn’t matter who votes. It matters who counts the votes.”?

[...] Mike Shelton takes a view at this rush to be witty, creative, and most usually insulting to a larger scale.  He cites many instances where people are trying to help Obama, but really cause him a lot more issues than help by being so over-the-top or insulting.  He mentions Sandra Bernhard, I mentioned her here as well.  By being insulting and talking trash, she most likely hardened some lukewarm supporters of McCain.  Or, most likely, hardened some lukewarm anti-Obama voters.  Sure, she’s a comic, but her intent was completely undermined by her inability to communicate in a civilized manner.  And, I also feel she felt she had a license to talk the way she does because she’s a comic and she therefore can just say whatever she pleases without any consequence whatsoever.  He could tell Hollywood to keep the rhetoric a little lower key, but he won’t, they’re his messengers with cash. [...]

Looking the polls, it doesn’t seem like Obama needs to change a damn thing.

I’ve given up on the Republicans running any truly effective campaign ads. it’s just too sad to watch anymore.

Oct 1, 2008 - 6:43 am 13. susan parsons:

The Democrats get a free pass on everything because the media wants Obama to win.
Palin is put under the microscope more than Obama ever will be.
Big mistake.
He’s the nominee for president, and his past should sound alarm bells for everyone.

The polls seem to show an Obama victory. I can’t see what McCain and Palin can actually do about it with the media’s biased reporting.

Oct 1, 2008 - 6:49 am 14. Way Out East:

I think Perry hit it on the head. Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson, although not known as America haters (as far as we know) should be added to the list of radioactive Obama associates.

Oct 1, 2008 - 6:55 am 15. Charisa N.:

I loved RPL’s comment about Pilate voting “present”… THAT is truly hilarious! Obama MUST have a messiah complex, since he hasn’t shushed his “friends”… Here we go, America! Hang on–it’s going to be a very bumpy ride! Oh, let’s pray that the people who count the votes are upright individuals…

Oct 1, 2008 - 7:04 am 16. Dark Helmet:

Let’s be real here. hussain oboma is only in the race because of his race.

The sum total of 35 years of being told that every single thing that is wrong with this country and killing the planet is because you’re white, male and hetro sexual.

Well, the hell with that. See everyone on election day.

ryan small, bernhardt is a symptom of the cancer that who counts the votes applies to.

Unfortunately, it matters not what Friends of Barrack say, as the media downplays or ignore them. I am astonished at the number of people who have never heard of Obama and the 57 states, yet they believe that Tina Fey was quoting Plain in the remark about seeing Russia from her house.

I’m confused. I thought the official Republican position was “Nancy Pelosi determines how I vote.” Now it’s “Sandra Bernhard determines how I vote?”

Perhaps we should just rely on what the candidates themselves say, and try to ignore the statements of obscure party officials and celebrities. You know what they say about opinions. Everyone’s got one.

But not everyone’s opinion matters.

Oct 1, 2008 - 7:31 am 21. Saltherring:

I, too, agree with Perry’s comment that he is “…truly frightened by the American electorate.” It is hard to believe we have fallen so far and so fast as to consider such a marginal candidate as Obama for our President. We chucked at his hollow rantings of “hope” and “change” a year ago. Now they’re not so funny.

Oct 1, 2008 - 7:46 am 22. Therese:

I have never seen an election with so many “vile” comments being made by people - and unapologetically too! This is Obama’s base. This is the heart of liberalism in America. Culturally our country is going down the tubes because people aren’t rising up en masse against the people who say these things. People aren’t even demanding that their leader, Obama, be even shamed enought to come out against it.

My sincere hope is that on election day, that there is a “silent majority” backlash against these people because John McCain and Sarah Palin win resoundingly!

Those of us against this crap need to get out and vote McCain/Palin.

Oct 1, 2008 - 7:47 am 23. Ron J:

And now Gwen Awful of PBS, the sole moderator of the VP debates has a new, glowing book on Obama. Talk about impartial?! Hoo hoo!

Oct 1, 2008 - 8:31 am 24. tanstaafl:

Barack Obama left his post as community organizer on the streets of Chicago for the (not so) hallowed halls of Harvard Law.

He’d become frustrated that “community organizing” (not to mention dumping Annenberg Challenge money into Chicago schools) wasn’t making much of a difference, much of a “change”.

His motivation, his rationale, in seeking the Presidency is to use the largest stage possible to attempt to effect the “change” that he failed to effect as a community organizer in South Chicago.

Obama would to use the machinery of government to bring out a his definition of what constitutes “fairness” in the human condition.

His vision of the role of government goes far beyond the (self serving) ramblings of Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society or even the social programs (intended to be temporary, post depression recovery measures, hahaha) of FDR.

Obama’s vision underlies his motivation in running for President. (Plus, a little personal identity issue of who, exactly, he is, given the parents etc., but that’s a different topic)

His vision in obvious his wife’s assessment of we the ‘merican peeple as lazy incompetents who need to be lifted out of our “comfort zones” which her husband is just the guy to do that.

Trouble is, this isn’t why we have a national government or why we were configured as a country in the first place.

In the words of Jeremiah (Bullfrog) Wright…nonono…

Oct 1, 2008 - 9:01 am 25. Annoyed:

So far everything here sounds like the only thing you have to say against Obama is that he says things that hurt your feelings. Sure, he gets caught up in the rush of political discussion like the rest, but what does that have to do with the fact that Palin is incapable of rational, educated, consistent leadership? Or that McCain is flip-flopping worse than Kerry did? Emotion in leiu of reasoning has no place in the white house. If the McCain campaign truly believes in the foundational freedoms of our country, it should be dropping Palin off the ticket asap.

Oct 1, 2008 - 9:03 am 26. tanstaafl:

Gwen Ifill is a bad choice for moderator of Thursday’s Veep debate. From the point of view of her intellect (or lack thereof).

The fact that her book “Age of Obama” (due out on inauguration day) and the fact that, reportedly, the McCain campaign didn’t know about her bias is way too bad.

Oct 1, 2008 - 9:09 am 27. crossover:

The Democrats need to remember a great quote by the famous ‘comedian’ Will Rogers. (1879-1935)

He said: “I am not a member of any political party.
I am a Democrat!”

Guess what?
I am a Democrat and I am not voting for Obama.

Oct 1, 2008 - 9:13 am 28. The Postliberal:

Obama appeals to emotionally childish voters–not so much the chronologically young as the immature of all ages. This is a crucial “demographic” that is completely invisible to the tools of demography. And since for social scientists and their journalist offspring all social knowledge is ultimately based on demographic data, immaturity in the electorate simply doesn’t exist, can’t be discussed, and can’t be a factor in an election.

Of course, they’re wrong.

Since so much of the manufactured news in this and any election comes from polls, the typical questions about “whom do you trust with the economy?” and “who’s better on foreign policy?” obscure a legitimate matter of voter concern in this election: “which candidate and/or campaign do you think is more likely to threaten your freedom and safety if the candidate is elected?”

Speaking for myself, a few months ago I wouldn’t have thought a question like that was worth asking. I disapproved of Obama, I thought he would be an incompetent president, and I thought he’d do harm through incompetence. Now I’ve changed my mind about Obama–and not just President Obama, but even candidate Obama. He and his campaign of anger are making me frightened. I’m beginning to see that the reason Obama prayed with Jeremiah Wright for so many years is that he’s attracted to demagoguery. It’s part of Obama and those he attracts. His mask is slipping.

Oct 1, 2008 - 9:19 am 29. Benson:

For Ryan Small:

SandraM did not imply a cause - effect relationship, if I read her words correctly.

SandraM said (a) Berhard is filthy, and then (b) this election could be decided by crooked ballot counts. Maybe that is to say that people who delight in filthy, bigoted invective are probably not above much.

I’d say the issue is whether the folks who are not entertained by Bernhard will consent to be governed by those who are.

Oct 1, 2008 - 10:26 am 33. SAF:

Doesn’t matter what any of them say or do the MSM will give any democrat a pass on anything. While the contributors to this forum generally have an opinion, whether for or against either candidate it is for the most part unswayed by name calling and biased reporting. Those who like the bias, democrats, cheer it and those of us who find the press to be guilty of not performing their job complain about it.

The problem is that whether your IQ is 0 or 2000 you only get one vote. The bias tends to push the unthinking towards Obama simply because it is so much in his favor. Today the Boston Globe reported as fact the lie that Wasilla required rape victims to pay for the rape test kit while Palin was mayor. If they retract the lie it will be on page 18. This will push another non-thinking voter into the Obama column.

Expect Obama to win and expect many people who voted for him to say “Gee I didn’t think he meant that” 6 months after inauguration.

Oct 1, 2008 - 11:09 am 34. GeoFizz:

In any walks of life, the people one hangs out with are indicative of one’s personality and character. “Birds of a feather flock together…” Obama has stated himself that he gravitates toward and associates with the fringe. You can see the influence of all this in how Obama is striving, both directly and indirectly, to reach his goal of making history.

Oct 1, 2008 - 11:17 am 35. Donnie Mac Leod:

It really is amazing. People that went through hell to protect their country and fellow soldiers are marginalized and ridiculed because they can not use a computer key board by a man that never ever offered to fight for his country. In fact he was a close confident of people who openly hate the American Republic such as Alinsky, Bill Ayers and the Acorn foundation. Hard to believe.

Oct 1, 2008 - 12:54 pm 36. cedarford:

The Postliberal:

No, the failed Presidency of George Bush and the corrupt betrayal of the 1994 Republican Revolution of the middle class and working poor has handed the 2006 and 2008 Elections to Democrats on a silver platter.
Only Obama’s weakness as a candidate has kept this competitive until recently. Now the “let Wall Street and the markets be Free!!” Republicans have an economic quagmire on the scale of how their mismanaged Iraq excellent adventure was faring in 2005-2006.

Now Obama appears to be pulling away from the 30-year Washington guy who calls Teddy Kennedy, Cheney, John Kerry, and Trent Lott “my dear friends” and who has 9 different pics of him hugging Dubya for people to post…

What Obama says doesn’t hurt our feelings. What Obama says reflects his view of our country, which is very negative.

Like Sarah Palin said, “The only victory we seem to hear Obama talk about is the victory for his campaign, not the country.” (This is paraphrased.)

Obama doesn’t deserve to be President. He doesn’t even deserve to hold any office in our country.

The more I think about it, the more I think you liberals really don’t like Sarah Palin because she “unmasked” Obama as the “emperor with no clothes” before millions of viewers on the night of her acceptance speech. She did it effectively, so now your media friends are trying to help destroy her. It won’t work.

And what about the city and county attorneys in St. Louis threatening people with criminal libel for expressing their political opinions? This is Obama’s “truth squad,” and it makes him look like a facist. How someone can be a fascist and a socialist is amazing to me. In fact, it appears that Obama is everything — except a capitalist. If only McCulloch and Joyce would actually put someone in jail (or at least arrest them) for their political speech before the election. That would clinch it for McCain / Palin.

I just love this website. You guys that write the articles on this website must in fact be very well trained. This is a classic strategy of ramping up anger for the masses to vote against the opposition. This kind of strategy promotes that, “if you get them angry enough, they will surely vote against the opposition.” This strategy is being promoted throughout this whole entire website and you claim that you are an alternative to the MSM. I believe that you are in fact an alternative to the MSM. You just take it to an even higher level of biased reporting and public manipulation. This is the kind of tabloid propaganda that has helped to decide elections in the past that have been very harmful to the American public. Rather than putting out the truths or facts, tabloid propagandas on the Right or Left, has been deciding most of the recent elections in America that really hurt this country. People should not develop the “sheep syndrome.” I do see the regulars on this website that are already in a state of trance by the articles here.

Oct 1, 2008 - 2:54 pm 42. newguy40:

It is a nice article. But, my reaction has become, “So?”

It is well known that the MSM and the Hollywood contingent is in the bag for Obama and will do and say (or not say, in many cases)anything to insure that happens.

So?

What can an informed voter do about it?

And, what is even more amazing is that the polls would seem to indicate that McCain is still statistically (what ever that means!) in the race. Does this mean that despite the MSM bias that voters still ain’t buyin’ what Obama is peddlin’? I sure hope so. But, I am not optimistic…

As long as we’re accelerating towards socialism, we might as well cap the income that celebrities can earn. They might not feel so insulated and special when they are making the same salary as, say, a fast food worker. Then, the politicians might need some term limits, so more comrades can serve for the greater good of Obama-nation. Everything else can pretty much stay the same…

Obama’s Not Exactlys:

1.) Selma March Got Me Born - NOT EXACTLY, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965. (Google ‘Obama Selma ‘ for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.)

2.) Father Was A Goat Herder - NOT EXACTLY, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government.

3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter - NOT EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had.

4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY, your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya . It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establi sh Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Oba ma, is Odinga’s follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone. Check out the following link for verification of that….and for more.

Obama’s cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia muslim law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers have burned Christians’ homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian church where they took shelter.. Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the election process here started. Google Obama and Odinga and see what you get. No one wants to know the truth.

6.) My Name is African Swahili - NOT EXACTLY, your name is Arabic and ‘Baraka’ (from which Barack came) means ‘blessed’ in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.

Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. If elected, he would be the first Arab-American President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother’s side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father’s side. While Barack Hussein Obama’s father was from Kenya , his father’s family was mainly Arabs… Barack Hussein Obama’s father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father’s birth cert ificate even states he’s Arab, not African Negro). In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as ‘one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.’ This is just one example of ‘Obama’s narrative is being altered, enhanced and manipulated to whitewash t roubling facts.’

What people don’t understand is why some of us are so against the current Republican ticket, but we have an obligation to fight against history of ever being repeated again. Many of us out here are not fighting for the Democratic campaign but are fighting against an ideology.

1) An ideology that completely mirrors the ideology of this past 8 years.
2) An ideology that recognizes the few while completely disregarding the masses.
3) An ideology that believes in taking military action against Iraq, an incident that is completely unrelated to 9/11, without solidifying our claims beforehand. In the present, we have found no evidence of weapons of mass destructions or a tie to Osama Bin Laden. The devastation of this war has cost us over 4,000 of our brave troops and counting, over 1/2 trillion dollars of taxpayer’s money and counting, and over 1 million Iraqi lives unrelated to the terrorists or insurgency.

Cost of the Iraq War — http://www.nationalpriorities.org/costofwar_home

4) An ideology that still believes that the Iraq War is the right war on terrorism when the Afghanistan War should had been the right war on terrorism, where Osama Bin Laden actually was until he slipped into the mountains and into Pakistan’s territory now. The Iraq War also diverted our attention away from the Afghanistan War. We now have extended our resources in two separate places and have heightened our risk to our troops, our expenses, and creating another dilemma that will take quite some time to finalize. The Iraq War will not go away overnight and it is now our obligation to see it all the way through for God knows how many more years. This has also been the most unpopular war in the eyes of the world’s communities.
5) An ideology that believes that we are at our safest state since 9/11, when a recent terrorist plot was still trying to enter Great Britain’s airports with liquid explosives heading directly to us, but thankfully the plot was foiled. While in Afghanistan, the terrorists are regrouping and strengthening and we have recently suffered another high casualty to our troops yet again within this past month. We currently have the least amount of alliances in the world’s communities due to this unpopular Iraq War. True national securities are the ties that bind us to our world’s communities and the ties that bind them to us.
6) An ideology that vetted one of the most inexperience VP ticket in history, from foreign policies to national defense. If God forbids that anything happens to this President if elected and is stricken with illness, this VP will be running the country. For a more compelling look at Sarah Palin’s VP readiness, please look at these links below —

http://www.salon.com/opinion/walsh/election_2008/2008/09/30/palin_gaffes/

7) An ideology that believes in “the fundamentals of our economy are strong” while we are facing the highest mortgage foreclosure crisis, high unemployment rate, and the largest collapse of our financial infrastructures since The Great Depression of 1929.

This is an ideology that many of us in America are against. Whether this ideology is in the Republican or Democratic ticket is not the main issue but the fact is that America does not want to fall into another 4 more years of devastation. We cannot afford this anymore.

You are the company you keep, and the company that keeps you. For that reason, if no other, I would never vote for Obama. Not even to run the local 7-11. He has spent his life with racist hatemongers who want to destroy America.

I’m glad someone else has a decent level of reading comprehension. Apparently, not many Obama fans have read his book. It’s chock full of things that directly contradict what he says now. I too am saddened by the repuplicans inability to put out a decent ad showing just a few of his many, many lies. But maybe they are doing it elsewhere, I live in Texas and have heard the repubs just assume they’ll carry us.

Postliberal - Excellent insight on “emotionally childish voters”.

Juhn Dubya - Ah’d've jest picked the cotton maah ownself. Just onugh of a kernel of truth to be hilarious. Spilled my coffee.

Colonel - Thorough and devastating. Stnad in tonight of rPalin, wouldja please?

Javelin - You did exactly what this article was talking about with your comment about “Redneck Ignorant jounalism”. Somehow, I don’t think that Iron Curtain journalism” compares to the bigotry of your statement. Keep up the fine work.

Watching Fembot Cheney was also quite hard for McCain, I bet.

Why don’t they look into Obama’s background where he said,he was going to stick with the Muslims.

Noted over the weekend is a conundrum. Why are leftists such as Alec Baldwin, Annette Bening and the crew at SNL suddenly telling the truth about the current economic mess? Only one answer.

Change.

To legitimize Obama and his campaign you must make it appear that he’s different from politics as usual. So throw Pelosi and Frank and Reid under the bus. It gives Obama street cred as an agent of change. He’s not like the rest and he can’t support the policies of the Demoncratic past. So if Frank and Emmanuel and Rubin were feeding at the trough, then sacrifice them. Belittle them, in skits on SNL and denounce their support for fat cats in the financial sector.

It makes Obama more like the Saviour…

Need to add Brigitte Bardot to your circle. The web is covered up with stories about her bashing Sarah Palin.

Only thing is…………

Google search: Brigitte Bardot convicted of racism.

In the last couple of months.

The icing on the Irony Cake?

Her racism was directed towards people practicing the Muslim faith.

You can’t make this stuff up. :))
