Not surprised. Here in Canada, the Government ignored the participation in the Oil for Food scandal by several high profile business men. And in that case, there was many hundreds of millions being skimmed off.

The United States was prepared to reprise the entire “Boxing Day Tsunami” relief effort for Burma. That stinking junta said “NO”.

Anna? Where are you? Hester just handed you your ass, and we’ve been awaiting your oh-so-smug giggle in reply. Hello? BTW, one of the main reasons the US fought the huge dues we were paying is because all the constructive suggestions and analysis we insisted on to prevent just these kinds of scams were treated with hostility and contempt from the very people who have been enriching themselves at the UN trough. It was the only lever we had to try and get all the third-world con men and flim-flam operators out of the institution.

Considering what a muddle your thinking is, I can only imagine you are a college student, probably on America’s dime. Why don’t you return to Burma and “speak truth to power” and expose the corruption of the junta so the world can understand, brave one? Did you fly over to Burma to take care of your own family, or did you leave that to anonymous NGO’s and the UN? Or perhaps you feared that you couldn’t get back into paradise if you left?

At the least the UN should have made a big stink about what the junta was attempting to do with this scam; but I don’t think they were even smart enough to know they were being had.

Bad enough the UN wastes money, does nothing, props up dictators and considers freedom of speech something to be “limited” in “appropriate” ways.

Worse that the US has to fund the UN’s efforts to extend its “mission” into suppressing speech and eating at 5 Star restaraunts.

Now I have to listen to someone with “family” there, baying that its our duty to strip US taxpayers of more, to “enrich” the junta in Burma as part of all our other obligations.

Anna some thoughts: ask the UN to devote less money to determining how it can suppress speeech its member governments don’t like; and why it supports a junta we are trying to eliminate; ask China and Russia to pay more to the UN. Gather the money from people with “family” like yourself to aid your family; or do something to eliminate the junta instead of asking me to “enrich” a bunch of military dictators.

And by the way, not that I care, but I think we more than pay our dues. And our dues are about the highest if not the highest. And the unpaid parking tickets from the UN alone would fund a small country.

Or is asking for more money from the US the only thing you understand?
