If Jimmy Carter is any indication of what's going on with the Democrats, and Dinesh D'Souza is any indication of what's going on with the Republicans, not only is the war on terrorism lost, I'd say so are the two...

Sorry, Carter was not the worse pres we ever had. He never tried to eradicate the Consitution the way Bush has. Nor did he involve the US in an illegal war. Nor did he work against the common working guy.
He tried to stop US funding of petty-assed tyrants the world over and was kicked for it. He cut off aid to Chile, Iraq, and Argentina because they were corrupt and inhumane. Regan reversed his policies and gave billions to countries like Iraq, so now we pay for Regans' mistakes and not Carter's.
He signed off on the Panama canal because it was in Panama and not New Jersey. The original treaty was for 50 years, then extended to 1975. The Panamanians wanted their country back, so we gave it back. The canal is still independent and so far no one has tried to stop America from using it.
The economy was a mess before Carter came to office. Nixon's wage and price controls failed completely and Ford didn't have the time to correct the real problem of paying off the Vietnam war debt. Something very similiar is happening now, we are in debt because of a war, and a crash is looming.
Iran was in chaos after the Shah ran for the hills with the national treasury, then Kissinger tried to hide the Shah in Egypt. If someone tried to hide my former, corrupt president before I could hang him, I'd be pissed off also. America really needs to mind it's own buisness.
Carter's comments in his book really ticked off a lot of people. Especialy those who haven't read the book.
Too bad, but they'll get over it. Read the book and make up your own mind, don't depend on others to tell you what to think or what to say.
Carter lived and goverened by his christian principals, and regardless of what anyone says, he's still better then George Bush.

Campaign Slogan, Jimmy Carter:

I will not lie to you.

That turned out to be the biggest lie of his presidency.

Has everyone forgot about the Carter Institute, mostly the ex-prez, giving his blessing on the "legitimacy" of the elections in Venezuela. All by himself Carter condemned many to a slow and painful death. How much did Chavez donate to the Carter Inst.?

Least we not forget, the US Navy recently named the latest, most advanced submarine ever made after this weakling of a President. Who the heck thought that was a good idea.

cfbleachers: good to see you here, and great call on Billy.

In the interest of fairness and balance, I would like to remind you all of the creativity and boldness of Carter's forward-thinking foreign policy. Have you forgotten that it was Carter who established the doctrine of "Pointless, Pre-emptive Surrender," epitomized by the president's unilateral decision to make U.S. athletes forfeit their prospective victories at the 1980 Moscow Olympics before the competition had even opened?

This stroke of brilliance set in motion a diabolically Machiavellian process by which, four years later, the Soviets were deftly manipulated into forfeiting the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. As a true visionary, Carter of course knew that Reagan would get all the credit for U.S. athletes' dominance in L.A., and that the result would be a landslide victory for Reagan the following November. With an electoral mandate in hand - compliments of Jimmy Carter's clairvoyance and public-spirited largesse - Reagan had the necessary political capital to bomb Ghadafi whenever he felt like it, thus enacting Carter's final revenge against the Libyans who had so cluelessly been taken in by Billy's cleverly orchestrated and deceptive overtures to them several years before. So we have Carter to thank for Libya's disappearance from the terror-sponsoring industry for a good long time after 1986.

While some may find his current overtures to the Palestinians and accompanying condemnation of Israel troubling, for those who have eyes to see, it's plain that he is setting up the Palis the same way he set up the Libyans. We must all admire his genius, and wish him perfect success in this new venture.

All of the above is true, the lack of action on Carters part will resound through history. I recall in 1980 carter told us that "things were not going to improve and we better get use to it"

<i>Today, 14 members of the Carter Center’s Board of Councilors resigned, sending Carter a letter in which they accused him of “malicious advocacy” and wrote “we can no longer endorse your strident and uncompromising position."</i>

Out of 200 members - a 7% resignation. Hardly a mass protest.
