I just found this bit of information:

“Palin's office says there have been a total of 14 cases resolved so far with no finding of ethics violations, but thus far she has about $500,000 in legal expenses.
A group called Conservatives for Palin is holding a Web-a-thon to raise money. It claims to have collected a fifth of that.”

http://www.ktuu.com/global/story.asp?s=10566361

It seems that Sarah Palin still owes roughly $400,000 in legal bills which continue to climb! If this information is correct---she was forced to resign. Only a very wealthy individual can survive these costly attacks. I am definitely not an expert in this matter, but it does seem that Alaska's ethics laws may be responsible for Palin's resignation.

Sarah Palin cannot run an effective presidential run in 2012. That bridge has been burned. Victor Davis Hanson thinks she can do so 2016---and he's probably right.
I suspect the phony ethic charges alone forced her to quit. They were never going to stop. Too much time and money were being wasted. I remain a bit confused on this matter---but it seems that this madness is unique to Alaska. That state must change it unintentionally foolish laws. The intentions may have initially been good, but the results have been disastrous.

Welcome to the birth of a third political party...I wouldn't be surprised to see the Alaskan Independence Party take a national route and become the American Independence Party.

Does that sound outlandish? Well, think about the financing they would have from the richest industry on the planet (energy), which just happens to be under attack by both sides of the aisle and have a signficant attachment to Alaska.

I'm just saying...
Cheers,

Ahhhh...the tin-foil hat conspiracy theorists having thumb-sucking tantrums about the so-called "Left Media" Well, if her and her followers can't handle the so-called "Left Media" than how are they expected to handle Iran, North Korea, Russia, and China? How is she expected to handle Kim Jong Ill or Vladamir Putin when she can't even handle Katie Couric? Pathetic excuse of a leader.

Lets also blame the so-called "Left Media" and completely disregard the slash and burn hits she's been taking from within the Republican Party. The Newt Gingrich and his team writing op-eds calling her a plagiarizer and lacking intelligence to lead (and proving it), the way she was completely given the total "smack down" by the GOP at the NRCC fund raiser a couple of weeks ago be being denied the ability to speak and being uninvited and then being re-invited and forced to sit in the back of the room. Jon Voight speaking instead of Sarah Palin? Can you get more disrespectful? How about the Vanity Fair hit job from Republican strategists withing the McCain campaign and lets not forget how McCain himself has been treating her since the 2008 elections. The Republicans in her own party in her own state that have repeatedly criticized her for her lack of leadership and her own self-indulgence to the point of threatening impeachment. She's already a lame-duck governor! The Republicans in her own state that voted in favor on ethics investigations of her. The e-mails released by Republicans with her lying about her husband's 7 year membership into a succession party in Alaska and how unpatriotic and anti-American this conduct is. The Republican party was founded on anti-succession platforms and how treasonous conduct this anti-American ideology is. Civil War anyone? If Todd Palin was a Liberal, you'd all have him in Gitmo by now. With a pathetic 4% of registered Republicans actually supporting her for anything, it's obvious that there is not a snowball's chance in hell that she can beat any Democrat in any national election and the Republicans have been using the so-called "Left Media" to prove this effectively and efficiently. And then there is John Ziegler's video with a huge banner across the bottom "How Obama Got Elected". Gee...YA THINK?!?! I guess Ziegler is a Conservative. Are you sure?

"They can be used to hound non-wealthy people out of office due to finances."

The incredible amount of time also cannot be overlooked. I live in Texas and it apparently is impossible for Rick Perry's foes to constantly harass him with ethics charges.
It is my understanding that this is unique to Alaska. Am I wrong about this?

Mr. Driscoll is one of the finest. Top notch.

But many after 2004 embraced a hyperbolic fashion. Today we see it continue. The GOP has flaws, but right now has preformed well in the face of the folly provided by the Democratic Party in Washington.

The Bush Administration was not only slandered for 8 years by Partisans, but some Conservative Pundits engaged in the most emotive reactionary mindsets, only undermining their own interests. The lost perspective of essential context.

In reality, the Bush Administration was not only professional for the most part, but effective and positive for the Nation.

Today, we see many looking for a celebrity that fits the right image, much like the baseless hype regarding Fred Thompson. It all led to a disastrous choice in John McCain, including some truly vapid religious bigotry in the GOP Primary.

In reality, it takes a team, objectivity, reason, patience, resolve, honesty, etc. Mrs. Palin is a fine American, who was hyped well beyond reality, and many, including the Man behind the mighty EIB knew better.

We will be just fine, as this Nation takes more than just one politician to function.

Millions of Republicans are wrongly debased by a number of vapid Conservative Elite Pundits who are stuck on fashion, constantly grouping so many fine Americans together, unwittingly undermining the brand as a whole. It is self destructive.

McConnell and Boehner have been doing a pretty fine job in reality, and we can grow to make a sincere challenge this 2010.

Let's get it together.

Time to stop the sophistry, and embrace the professional.'

Thank you.

The next Governor of Alaska will not be writing checks, for the first time in a long time, out of the Oil Company's royalty fund, because of Waxman-Markey. In addition, it's impossible to campaign for President and be Governor.

The kicker is the Ethics violations charges. They can be used to hound non-wealthy people out of office due to finances. Palin's book deal, will now no longer be subject to ethics charges and public examination, in other words the same standards that Obama benefited from.

The media will not go away. Letterman will not stop attacking her, nor will Conan, or Kimmel, or any of those guys. Dems will not stop making stuff up, and Andrew Sullivan won't stop fabricating garbage. Perez Hilton will have a field day.

If anything, resigning only intensifies what happens -- more attacks on her family, attempts to get dirt, make her daughters targets of stuff, and so on.

Once you enter the media bubble, you never exit it. It's impossible. Palin can no more (and her family no more) escape constant attacks and scrutiny than could say, Jennifer Aniston. No matter what either does, it won't matter. They and their families will have the paparazzi and other media lifeforms around them constantly, 24/7. Larry David, Jim Belushi, and Bruce Campbell can all have normal, sane lives because when they are not performing, people just are not that interested in them. Palin, Aniston, Lindsay Lohan, Angelina Jolie, and Britney Spears who arouse tabloid ire or interest, can't ever escape that bubble. [Relatively boring pop-tart graduate Christina Aguilera can, because neither the public nor tabloids find her interesting.]

The media establishment, younger women, and gays all hate Sarah Palin and her family, and are unlikely to ever stop attacking. The only way to silence them and cease the attacks is to win the White House.

Could Sarah Palin's resignation be the result of Alaska's foolish but well intentioned rules that make it relatively easy to charge a sitting governor with ethics violations? The principle of unintended consequences have have once again kicked in. The legislators had no idea that cheap shot political opportunists would eagerly take advantage of the opportunity to harm their despised opponents. Palin may have been spending an inordinate amount of money and time fighting these viciously unfair allegations.
