In The Midnight Hour, She Cried, More, More, More…

Taxes, spending, and government regulations that is. As Jim Treacher noted on Twitter, “Van Jones’ resignation, the Obamacare boondoggle… Saturday at midnight is the new Friday at 5.”

And speaking of the latter item, Allahpundit writes:

It’s 10:45 ET and it looks like the final vote is coming within the next 15 minutes. I held out hope this morning that we might get a humpbot cameo tonight, but it looks like we’re in for an appearance by the melting bunny of death instead. Heart-ache.

Update: My prediction for the final vote, as of 10:52: 224-211.

Update: It was closer than I thought: 220-215, 39 Dems voting no and a solitary Republican — Joe Cao, who replaced “Dollar Bill” Jefferson in a blue district in Louisiana — voting yes. Take heart, righties: Reid is incompetent, which makes the likelihood of 60 votes in the Senate, especially after a vote this narrow, very slim indeed.

But for now, we grieve.

Click over for the uber-depressing polar opposite of Allah’s trademarked humping robot video.

Duane Patterson, Hugh Hewitt’s producer and “generalissimo” adds, “so nancy twisted arms, got 220 to pass bill that won’t see light of day in the senate? yawn. target’s always been killing reid’s bill.”

Help us Dr. No, you’re our only hope!

Update: Steve Green adds, This Is Not the America I Knew:

How do you cure high unemployment and sluggish growth?

Proven methods include reducing regulation and lowering taxes.

So it comes as no surprise that the House has just approved one of (if not the) biggest increases in taxes and regulation after virtually zero debate and in the middle of a weekend night when almost no one is paying attention.

They’re cowards. Shrewd cowards, but cowards still.

As Steve asks, “If no one has done the math on this one, I wish they would. Which is the greater number: Pages in the bill the House just passed, or the minutes spent debating it?”

Update: You stay classy, Mr. President:

Mr. Obama, during his private pep talk to Democrats, recognized Mr. Owens election and then posed a question to the other lawmakers. According to Representative Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, who supports the health care bill, the president asked, “Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care? All it will do is confuse and dispirit” Democratic voters “and it will encourage the extremists.”

(Via the Rhetorican, whose email noted “It’s Not Garofalo. It’s Obama”; though other than the lack of visible tats, quotes such as the above sometimes make it seem hard to tell the difference.)

Update: “Flashback to 2005: Pelosi Says Not Giving Members Three Days to Read Bill Is ‘Absolute Outrage.’”

What do these red and purple state Democrats expect to gain from capitulating to Nancy Pelosi? The majority of them will lose their next election. Have they been promised lucrative lobbyist jobs after their political careers are over? Were they even outright bribed? Why else would they commit political suicide?

We are now a nation of those who will directly benefit from Obama’s corporatism vs. William Graham Sumner’s “Forgotten Man” who will be compelled to pay for the nonsense. The latter had better spend as much effort and money as possible between now and the elections of 2010. They are in great danger.

The Democrats in the house have just declared war on the American people. Will we fight to defend our liberty? The only weapon we have is the ballot box. One year from now it will either be total victory or total defeat. The choice of which is strictly up to the voters.

Good. For all the crybaby, knock-the-bowl-of-cereal-off-the-table obstructive behavior by the Republicans and the “Facts? We don’t want no steekin facts when we have fresh BS!” attitude of the right wing, it’s good to see that things can still move forward. And this is a move forward despite numbnutted commentary to the contrary.

What’s not so good is that it’s looking more and more like you now need huge majorities to get anything done thse days thanks to craven Republicans certifying that they have no intention of ever letting their supposed roles as responsible, solution-finding representatives interfere with them instead engaging in petty, stupid, and mean-spirited party politics.

Political Observer, the ballot box is just one of the peoples weapons. The correct progression is the soap box, the ballot box, the court box and then when all else fails…the ammo box. We’ve just about exhausted the first three. I hope and pray we don’t have to move tothe 4th but its starting to feel like 1776 again.

And your point is…..?

You think you’re going to get “free healthcare.” Problem for you is, what happens if over 1/2 of this country collectively decides it’s not going to support you in the lifestyle into which you want to be accustomed?

Look in the mirror, Sweet Pea, and you’ll see a loser.

Nov 8, 2009 - 5:33 am 17. jb:

BC, what part of the nationwide tea party rallies did you not understand? Every major polling institution has shown a majority of the public is opposed to this government take over of health care.

I’ve already checked to see how my congressman voted on this, (sadly,,, it was a “Yea”), and sent him an e-mail this AM letting him know I will not be voting for him in 2010. I strongly suggest everyone reading here check up on their representative and put them on notice if they voted the wrong way on this.

Nov 8, 2009 - 5:39 am 18. David Thomson:

“…and sent him an e-mail this AM letting him know I will not be voting for him in 2010.”

Stop and think twice before you do that. I live in the Texas 9th District and Democrat Al Green is my congressman. He has nothing to worry about. This left-wing whack job was reelected in 2008 by a 93.65% margin! It would be a total waste of my time to send him an e-mail. We must not allow our emotions to overwhelm our rational thought processes. Who are the truly vulnerable targets in 2010? Those are the ones we must focus on.

Joe Cao probably has nothing to worry about. It may very well have been in his self centered best interest to betray the Republican Party. He may even switch to Democrats in the near future. Cao’s vote made complete sense! It amy behoove us to ignore him in 2010. Once again, we must focus like a laser bean on vulnerable targets.

Nov 8, 2009 - 5:52 am 21. Mike2:

There was a lot of crowing about how the final bill had language guaranteeing no funding of abortion and no payments to illegal aliens in it. Watch that language get stripped out in conference when the Senate passes it’s bill. I’m afraid that the American people will have to feel the full weight of the bill before the real financial impact will become apparent to the average person. We better get active in 2010 and run these people out of office!

Nov 8, 2009 - 5:58 am 22. Marina:

Wow, BC really thinks it’s good for him. He’s GENUINELY happy. Imagine his face when he starts to feel the obamacare on his own skin. “Hey, what’s going on? Hey, that’s not what Obama promiced! Hey, I want my doctor back!” Schadenfreude.

Of course, he’ll keep coming here to troll: that’s what Soros pays him for, but his enthusiasm will become more and more artificial. That’ll be very interesting to study.

“I’m afraid that the American people will have to feel the full weight of the bill before the real financial impact will become apparent to the average person.”

We are really screwed if that’s the case. The damage could be irreversible before the common person realizes the harm. Have we already forgotten the destruction caused by Medicare? Still, the naive general public severely punished politicians who dared tell them the truth. They simply did not want to hear it. No, this is why we must focus on vulnerable targets in 2010. I don’t want to see, for instance, one single penny spent on defeating Nancy Pelosi in her home district. That would be a complete waste of precious resources. Focus like a laser beam! Do you live in a solidly blue area? If so, donate money and time to candidates running in purple and red districts.

This to pay for mediocre health Care and more inefficient government programs. This is what lies ahead. I just hate what I am seeing south of the border. I beg you to read this article and pass it to as many folks as possible

He raised Canada’s national debt from the 16 billion dollars accumulated during the first 100 years of confederation to about 200 billion by the time he left politics. The average rate of interest applied to that amount since then gets us to the 550 billion dollars we carry today. That is the fiscal legacy of Trudeau’s socialism.

Canada only has a 550 billion dollar debt?

America has a 12 trillion dollar debt with about 500 billion dollars of annual interest payments.

Please advise me which city I would enjoy the most?

We retirees can move to Canada or Mexico and draw our pensions and social security until the (BC) troll and his Pelosi lovers turn America into Zimbabwe.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe routinely prints money to fund the budget deficit, causing the official annual inflation rate to rise from 32% in 1998, to 133% in 2004, 585% in 2005, passed 1000% in 2006, and 26000% in November 2007, and to 11.2 million percent in 2008. Meanwhile, the official exchange rate fell from approximately 1 (revalued) Zimbabwean dollar per US dollar in 2003 to 30,000 per US dollar in September 2007.

GDP (purchasing power parity):
$1.959 billion (2008 est.)
$2.242 billion (2007)
$2.372 billion (2006)
note: data are in 2008 US dollars

GDP (official exchange rate):
$4.548 billion
note: hyperinflation and the plunging value of the Zimbabwean dollar makes Zimbabwe’s GDP at the official exchange rate a highly inaccurate statistic (2008 est.)

You guys are gonna luv universal heath care.

As a Canadian, I’ve been on a wait list for almost 6 months for an appointment with a specialist; reason: blood in stools, weight loss – then likely more wait time for what I think is a polyp(sp). It’s happened to me a few years ago, and that time it took only a couple of months to get it removed.

Life is so grand without a competent ‘family’ physician.
Don’t have one, nonetheless all will tell you now: “Go private if you can, it’s much faster”. (it’s illegal in the Province I reside in) I’ve also already been told “no anesthesia”. They don’t do it for bladder cell tests either, no matter how much scare tissue pain you’re already in from a chronic medical condition and previous multiple surgeries, nor a previous cyst on the bladder. Feels as though I’ve reached an ‘age’ or dollar limit category and being wait listed even longer. As my B-i-L had his ‘mild’ hernia operated on right away – diagnosed May surgery June.

When my surgery is booked finally, I’ll be campaigning on the streets of Ottawa for donations for the anesthesia to be covered as I’ve had enough pain already.

Last winter it cost us $2 thousand for a stubborn sinus infection (still paying off on credit cards)and that’s after showing up at a universally health care hospital with intense pelvic pain, blood in urine and very high fever. I requessted a pelvic ultra sound, was denied request.
A chest xray, blood urine tests after 9 hours waiting then sent home, told “you have a bad flu” and “get a family physician” for the rest. Then I was admonished for going private to get treatment for sinus infections I couldn’t get here, yet they wouldn’t even book a pelvic ultra sound while I waited months for a urologist to call, and it took longer for the effects of the that flu to leave.

No family physician, or get stuck with a bad one?
Too bad for you. NO sue here either, even in cases of wrongful death, and they’ve pretty much guarantee that the medical establishment wins or drags it on until it kills the family members seeking justice.
