First, thank you for a splendid blog.

Actually I think it's OK for Mr. Putin to get laid once in a while (that might influence his policies in a favourable manner), but in relation to his hypocritical behavior vis a vis Mr. Skuratov I can't help being a bit gleeful seeing him reaping his karma. :-)

Aha.. So the newspapers' owner was the 'oligarch' Alexander Lebedev.. Would that explain Putin's remark about 'infected noses'?

I really looove the western media's concerns about freedom of the press in Russia.

But I don't really understand why the European Union sends selected journalists to Russia, in order to take part in media courses there, according to EU commissioner Margot Walstrom "because they have so much more experience with self censorship" than we have in the west.

It seems the European press is so infinitely more elegant at hiding that it too, is not much more than a mouth piece for the dominating trends of thought among the political elite.

I think Putin should send Russia's journalists over here in stead, in order to perfect the real tricks of the trade, instead of using his more overt ways of silencing critics and manipulating the people.

Yesterday I talked on the phone with an old Swedish friend I hadn't spoken to in 30 years.

When discussing certain issues, I mentioned the (for us well known) censorship which is limiting reporting on certain subjects and opinions by the Swedish Press.

We don't have censorship in Sweden, he stated highly offended.

Censorship is something they have in the US.

See? That's the way to do it!
