Tonight we Jews read the Book of Esther, and we celebrate the battle our ancestors won against the antisemites in Persia more than two thousand years ago. It could not come at a more appropriate time, as Benjamin Netanyahu organizes an Israeli Government whose main task is the protection of the Jews against antisemites in Persia. Again.
Anyone who wants to learn more about the Book of Esther–and its signal importance in the history of political thought–should read Yoram Hazony’s The Dawn. It is one of those stories that is generally recounted in a slightly abridged version. That version goes like this: King Ahashverosh (probably Xerxes I), “who ruled from Ethiopea to India,” ditched his wife, Vashti, for refusing to show off her natural beauty to the court. In the ensuing competition, Esther became queen.
At the time, the Emperor’s chief consigliere, Haman (hard not to type ‘Hamas’) was lobbying to get the Emperor to approve the destruction of the Jews of the Empire, and he got Ahashverosh to sign a decree to that end. Esther’s uncle, Mordechai–who was in considerable trouble because of his hardheaded independence, and refusal to bow before Haman–convinced Esther to appeal to her husband. She did, and convinced Ahashverosh to protect the Jews. Haman was hanged, ironically on the very gallows he and his sons had constructed for Mordechai, and Mordechai was elevated to the consigliere post.
And that is where most people think the story ends, but there is more, much more. For although Haman was gone, the decree–which had authorized a day of slaughter of the Jews–was still on the books, and could not be revoked. So Mordechai travels all over the Empire, organizing and rallying the Jews to fight. When the dreaded day comes, the Jews prevail, killing more than 76,000 antisemites. That is indeed cause for celebration.
The Book of Esther is remarkably modern. The Almighty does not make an appearance. Everything is done by men and women, without Divine assistance. The Jews themselves must fight for their survival, against the usual overwhelming odds. Today’s antisemites will no doubt recognize the fingerprints of the Jewish Lobby, convincing the Emperor to act against what they might ‘realistically’ define as his own best interests. And then the surprising ferocity of Jewish fighters, against steep odds, wiping out those who had planned their doom.

Mar 10, 2009 - 11:36 am 6. naftali:This is one of the disagreements I have with folks taking a position–against Antisemitism, that, although they are correct in their stance, they underestimate the depth of this pathology.
It’s not just a hatred or a choice. I think that, parallel to the findings in today’s Australian, that there are areas of the brain hard-wired to recognize Gd, there are areas of the brains of Antisemites that are hard wired to hate Jews and seek their destruction.
I have no way of getting scientific backing for this, but if you look at the world with this hypothesis, I believe you will get a much more accurate picture of the dynamics of world politics, and the success or failure of diplomatic interventions.

Mar 10, 2009 - 12:57 pm 10. Oscar the Grump:Happy Purim everyone. Do you know that the leaders of the Nazis were hanged on this day after the Nuremberg trials? This is the day that we avenge ourselves against our enemies.
Mar 10, 2009 - 2:26 pm 11. naftali:Yo Oscar,
Did you also know that Stalin died on Purim, just as he was about to open his own brand of concentration camps for the Jews?
And, technically, we don’t avenge ourselves, but justice is rendered–if we are on our game, we don’t render the justice, but it is rendered. All we need to do is laugh, deconstruct our beliefs (getting so drunk etc.), give charity and gifts, listen to a story. End of assignment.

“What does President Teleprompter want to give Hamas: $900,000,000?”
———————————————-
Shocking, isn’t it. Giving those terrorists that kind of money is a complete outrage.
What is the point of our ally Israel going through all the hard work of fighting terrorists with the goal of setting them back, only to have America reward and re-enable the enemy again with a check for almost a billion dollars, and keep the cycle going?!
The West needs to stop bailing Palestine out or this crap is never going to end. Let them suffer and stew amongst broken buildings and rubble until the people get fed up enough with living like that, that they will choose a different way of life, maybe even rise up against hamas.
With Iran and Syria sending Palestine weapons and America and the West foolishly sending them tons of our cash, there is ABSOLUTELY NO INCENTIVE for them to change their behavior towards Israel. Why should they, they’re being well enough armed and funded to stay in the fight.
I wonder how America would feel if after expending hundreds of millions of dollars and soldiers lives to destroy Taliban compounds, bunkers and weapons, only to have Israel send the Taliban a check for a billion dollars to get them back up to snuff again.
It’s pure stupidity and a waste of good money. That $900,000,000 could have been used to secure our border with Mexico.
Thank you Hillary for wasting our dwindling money and selling our friend Israel out. *huff*

I think that is Jewish self-hatred and fear of their past… Dems have become more and more blatantly antisemite and yet more and more American Jews seem to completely ignore that fact! It’s disturbing and saddening to say the least. That’s just my humble take though? :\
Mar 10, 2009 - 4:43 pm 17. Bernie Reeves:As Israel invaded Gaza, justifiably in my view, the news coverage was a striking contrast to reports from 1948 through the ‘70s that extolled the brave Israelis for defeating their Arab foes and creating a parliamentary government.
Things began to change in the early 1980s, beginning with the Left in Great Britain (remember Vanessa Redgrave demonstrating for Palestinian rights?). It took until the 1990s for the shift in public opinion in the US to move against Israel. But it did, and today – in one of the most stunning reversals in world opinion – Israel is now the bête noir of the chattering classes across the globe.
In 1982, before this sea change began to swell, the Jewish Defense League came to call on me. They questioned an editorial I’d written criticizing the Israeli Prime Minister for refusing to meet with the American ambassador over some issue, even though the US funds and secures Israel’s existence. Worse, Israel had engaged in espionage against the US.
I told the JDL gents that criticism of the behavior of a sovereign state is not religious bigotry – or in this case anti-Semitism.
Two days later I was asked to attend a “debate” at the Hillel Foundation auditorium in Chapel Hill. The auditorium was crowded with Jewish people of all stripes who fired out questions accusing me of being a racist bigot and an anti-Semite for daring to criticize Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. I took this hostile fusillade for a half-hour then held up my hand and said, “Wait a minute:
“You are attacking me based on a pre-conception that anyone who dares criticize Israel for its actions as an alleged democratic state is an anti-Semite. My points about Begin’s behavior had not one iota of racial or religious bias. Yet, because it suits you to switch identities to win an argument, you abandon your democratic identity and hoist the Ark of the Covenant on your shoulders to take the moral high ground on a purely secular issue. In the process, you force outsiders to question your tactics and motives. And when you insult America, the one nation that supports you through thick and thin, you undermine the loyalty of US Jewry to the United States.”
You’d think I would be lynched, but we all became friends. I think they saw my point: Leave the people alone who accept you as a nation by feeling free to point out your diplomatic mistakes.
Today, I stand four-square behind Israel, our true friends in a region where Anti-Americanism is the real danger. In the light that reveals the Arab lunacy gripping the Middle East today, Israel has proved to be a sane, democratic island surrounded by an ocean of hate and self-destructive mayhem. Fatah, Hamas, Hezbollah and the rest are not credible entities for the world to support. Israel is – and the world media need to abstain from bashing them for protecting their existence.

Mar 10, 2009 - 5:50 pm 20. Jerry:Just grab that old Bible and read the Book of Esther. It is a wonder how little we differ from those of 1500 years ago.
1) Queen Vashti is a feminist who refuses to be a sexual object for her king husband’s show. She will be no trophy wife. Whether she survived her rebellion is not mentioned, but the story never speaks of her again.
2) Little phrases in the text explain worlds. Haman decides to anihilate the Jews
AND MOST IMPORTANT, acquire their property as war booty. So it was with the Jews of Europe. Most often within minutes of the Jews being rounded up and taken away, their homes and possessions were already in the hands of the local populace. It is documented that in some cases, meals were finished – still warm – by the new owners.
3) As today, the Jews of Persia required royal permission to defend themselves. There is no battle that modern Israel has fought without trying to justify their need to do so to others.
4) The Jews of Persia prospered there, but they arrived as a remnant from the battle for their land from Nebuchadnezer who destroyed the First Temple, that which was built by Solomon four hundred years before the Persian exile. So is it with the remnant of Israel living in its land today. They came from the concentration camps and the mellahs of the Middle East to fight for their lives, beating five Arab armies and embarrassing the British, who actively supported and led the Jordanian Legion who tried to dislodge them.
5) In victory, the Persian Jews did not loot their enemies. Israel of today tries desperately to give back that which they took in defensive wars. Must be something genetic.
6) Though many Jewish communities fought the local groups seeking their demise, it took much pressure from Mordechai and Esther for them to accept the perpetuating of the holiday of Purim. And today Israel maintains a very low profile in expressing its exuberance about its remarkable return to national life.
7) The name of the holiday, Purim, comes from the word, lottery. The day for Jewish destruction was chosen by Haman by a lottery for the day of the month and the month of the year. While there might be superstitious underpinnings to this practice, the very idea that it made no significant difference what day the Jews were to be destroyed echoes modern expression of anti-Semitism – engaged in whenever the fancy strikes.

Mar 10, 2009 - 7:22 pm 22. J Marshall:Although the name of God is not mentioned in the book of Esther, believers – both Jewish and Christian – see God’s faithfulness to His chosen people in operation throughout. His sovereign providential working is real, even when not in patently supernatural manifestation.
Likewise in the creation of modern Israel. Incidentally, a Christian leader by the name of William Blackstone in 1891 – six years prior to the first Zionist congress – petitioned the U.S. president to use his influence for the creation of a Jewish homeland in Palestine.
When Herzl was experiencing doubts about Israel’s restoration, Blackstone sent him a Bible in which were underlined all of the verses in the Hebrew Scriptures promising the re-gathering of the nation. Evangelical Christians are among Israel’s best friends and many of them “pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”
Mar 10, 2009 - 8:26 pm 23. Oscar the Grump:Historically the Jews were Democrats because the Republican party was very anti-Semitic. Its just now that the Democratic party has been hijacked by the left wing. The Jews are becoming Republicans now. There was a time that this was unheard of. We are the neocons. Many are now registering as independents. As Obama does his thing ie. giving Hamas 900,000,000 dollars, inviting the Gaza residents to imigrate to the US, giving their hard earned money to the disenfranchised, they will come over. Its happening daily.

Mar 10, 2009 - 8:32 pm 24. Delia:They ain’t ignoring a thing. Jewish self hate is a misnomer. Jews have been hated so long and taken so much sh’t that they started believing what’s been dished out. They are not the ones who go to the synagogue regularly. They are the assimilated ones who look and act like regular folk.
13. Oscar the Grump,
I have a special place in my heart regarding Jews… When I was a Pre-Teen I was obsessed with studying the horrors of the Nazi regime and the gas chambers and the personal angst written by “Anne Frank”. Even though I’m not Jewish there is a part of my heart that is endeared to Jews and their plight. Also, some of my favorite psychology works were written by Erich Fromm…I read many of his works when I was eleven years old. “Escape from freedom” was something that really resounded in my psyche as a young female living with a mentally ‘genius’ mother and having a psychotic ‘rapist/deadbeat’ father. I often feel the plight of Jews… I am a survivor too…and I rose above my ugly, horrific, abusive past…
Mar 10, 2009 - 8:43 pm 25. Delia:-And, I should have added… My mother was evil, abusive and cruel to the core. When she gave my sister and I up to abusive ‘Foster Parents’ rather than letting ‘family’ take us in…I knew from that day I’d never be secure in my life EVER. My childhood was hellacious. I wouldn’t wish MY life on ANYONE. EVER. Now? I’m alive but it hasn’t been easy. My husband and I are far from perfect mates but we’ve managed 22 years together without any bullet holes. My idea of going postal is usually pretty tame…it involves my tiny fists and someone who weighs 100 pounds more than me blocking them. Fair? Hmph! LOL!
Mar 10, 2009 - 8:53 pm 26. Rotwang:America has always funded the Palestinian government. We also subsidize Israel and Egypt. America uses cash to preserve some modicum of regional stability and preserve our relations with any number of Arab nations whose goodwill is a vastly more urgent strategic concern than Israel’s friendship. Where were you folks when Bush was doing it?
Obama’s $27 million in emigration support is a humanitarian gesture, and includes no encouragement or mechanism for Hamas terrorists to relocate to the US. That’s just more wingnut hysteria from commenters who haven’t read the actual order.
Party on.

Mar 11, 2009 - 4:47 am 31. Lawrence Kohn:Though King Saul dropped the ball his descendant if you examine the brief genealogy in the beginning of the book of Esther, is Mordecai (and of course his niece, Esther). So Mordecai and Esther’s victory redeems the house of Saul and this is emphasized by the statement more than once near the story’s end, “they did not touch the spoil”, reference back to Saul’s men taking the spoil of the Amalekites instead of destroying it. Three books beside Hazony worth reading: Adele Berlin’s commentary on Esther by Jewish Publication Society; Michael Fox’s Character and Ideology in the book of Esther and Esther’s Children, a beautifully illustrated coffee table sized book on the history of the Jews of Persia which as Ledeen points out has often been friendly to Jews (it liberated us from Babylonian captivity before Esther’s time).
Mar 11, 2009 - 5:29 am 32. TalkinKamel:Oh yes, we’ve supported many Moslem governments.
And, in return, they gave us 9/11.
Their “friendship” is soooooo much more important than Israel’s. Yah. Right.
And there’s no way Hamas could come here, even with Obama’s ever so generous $27 million support. It’s a humanitarian gesture, after all, and of course terrorists wouldn’t dream of taking advantage of such a gesture, would they?
So let’s all party on, and not worry!

You make a nice point. I’ll answer it in a roundabout way.
Any translation of the Hebrew scriptures is faulty, especially since they rarely print the footnotes of the great commentary over the ages. The result is that a casual reader derives the wrong meaning, and is unable to place any given passage in the correct context.
You speak of Pharoah. The passages means that Pharoah wished to hold on to his original position of keeping the slaves, but the plagues were weakening his resolve–Gd merely restored his resolve. But it was Pharoah’s resolve.
This would lead to a larger question, if Gd is Gd, why does are there so many problems in the world? Again, this is a fair question. One of the tasks of the Jewish people is called Tikkun Olam, to repair the world. And implicitly, each person has the ability to make themselves into the kind of person who can live in a world where nature, soul, all of humanity, and GD are working in harmony.
These tasks are, well, they’re not immediately solvable by the right social programs.
And then, we get to another large question that you raise, which is what is the relationship between Gd and mankind? Oddly, the scientific method works very well here. Come up with a hypothesis, figure out a way to test it, adjust the hypothesis, or junk the hypothesis, and begin again. There is custom on Purim for discarding hypotheses, called getting very drunk, so much so that one can’t distinguish good from evil, ceiling from floor, table from WC.
And the next day, you start again–trying to understand, not getting drunk.

Re the KKK and the Democratic party.
The reason the KKK was Democratic was that the South lost the Civil War. Lincoln was a Republican. They hated anything to do with Republicans. Southern conservative Democrats were known as Dixiecrats far opposite from the liberals under the same name.
The Republicans were more of the country club group. They had posted the signs that read “No Jews or Dogs Allowed” There is still a large hold over of this group. Many of these same country clubs still will not allow any blacks or Jews to become members.
Mar 11, 2009 - 12:39 pm 37. Curious:That’s why still today there are Jewish country clubs
Number 10- Oscar the Grump:
Mar 11, 2009 - 5:05 pm 38. Jassem Othman, from the terrible Middle East:As a matter of fact, the 10 Nazi war criminals who were hung for war crimes after the trial at Nuremberg,Germany, were hung on Oct.6, 1946.
Here are a couple of truly unbelievable but true facts:
(1) If you look at a properly written Scroll of Megillas Esther,Written by an Orthodox Jewish Scribe, you will find in Chapter 9, where the names of Haman’s ten sons who were hanged, are listed, that among the letters spelling out the names, 3 letters are printed in smaller script. The letters are “tof”,”shin”,and “zion”. Now these letters can refer to a given year according to Jewish gematria tradition. Remarkably, the year Tof, Shin, Zion is none other than 1946!!
(2) An eye-witness account of the actual hangings at Nuremberg in 1946, reports that when Julius Streicher, publisher of the Anti-semitic newspaper “Der Shturmer” had the noose placed around his neck, he shouted out “Purim-shpeil, 1946.” (Purim-fest, 1946).
The West’s moral duty to fight anti-Semites where Europe its self awash in anti-Semitism in this modern era.
Europe considerably is suffers the racism and virulent disease (anti-Semitism). The European societies sometimes are colorblind societies with regard to the matter of Jews and Israel. But doesn’t surprising from that the socialist, communist and Nazi communities. The European right wing extreme Parties still correlates with fascism as ideological references. Such as parties of the hatred, which the most successful of extreme right-wing Parties on the electoral level in most of European States such as Austria, France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Greece, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria even UK. That parties aren’t a marginal phenomenon in the European political scene, became a commendable has popular power and a constant side in the electoral equation and political. The percentage of anti-Semitism is so high in Europe, over the past few years the surveys showed more than 75 % and moreover more than 20 Members of the European Parliament from far-right parties in six EU member states.
Indeed it is most outrageous and shameful, more than 60 years after the inhuman immoral Holocaust. Presently you can see in European Parliament a group of politically active racists and anti-Semites has joined forces and qualified for funding within the European Parliament system. Far right groups of European Parliament members who share avowedly racist and anti-Semitic views such as:
Dimitar Stoyanov, he is from the Bulgarian Ataka (Attack) Party.
Andreas Moelzer, he is an Austrian politician and Member of the European Parliament and a former aide to Joerg Haider of Austrian’s racist party.
In Austria, the Freedom Party the party (FPO) is an extreme far right party, whose leader, was the best friend to Saddam and David Duke, also known for his warm relations with some Arab tyrannical leaders and corrupt princes from Arabian Gulf. He was known for his dubious statements about Jews, his praise of Nazism, his embrace of Saddam Hussein.
Bruno Gollnisch, the group’s leader and a member of the National Front in France, he denies the existence of the Nazi gas chambers (holocaust denial). Once, in his classroom was blocked by groups of students from Jewish associations.
Jean-Marie Le Pen is a French far-right nationalist politician, founder and president of the National Front party; he was member of the European Parliament, also known for his dubious statements about Jews, his praise of Nazism.
Alessandra Mussolini, of the Italian neo-fascist (Social Alternative) party and the granddaughter of Benito Mussolini, She is also an Italian neo-fascist politician and Member of the European Parliament.
Other representatives include an independent MEP from the United Kingdom, representatives of the far-right Belgian Vlaams Belaang party and representatives of the Romania Mare (Greater Romania) party, whose leader, Corneliu Vadim Tudor, is well-known for his anti-Semitic remarks. Ditto you remember the stupid joke by a member of the British royal family and the third in line to the British throne, prince Harry “a stupid and idiot prince “, who was dress up as a German soldier, complete with army uniform and Nazi armband.
Here in Poland, we know that Poland had a terrible long history of anti-Semitism before World War II and still. The Polish church was the major force promoting hatred toward Jews and still at present, parts of Catholic Church still anti-Semitic in Poland. The Reverend Tadeusz Rydzyk, also known as Father Director and The Founding Father creator and head of the controversial Radio Marya station (the main catholic Radio) and a grand leader of the Radio Marya Family’s nationalistic-clerical movement in Poland. Mr. Rydzyk shockingly is an anti-Semite; repeatedly he declared hatred declarations against Jews, and nonetheless, the Reverend Rydzyk has received millions of dollars from EU. Of course he is respected highly by the vast majority of Poles. However, racism in Poland still active against Jews, here is occasional desecration of Jewish cemeteries and synagogues committed by skinheads and other marginal elements of Polish society. And sometimes you could see drawings of Star of David a hanged in some places.
Personally I have heard many phrases of hate from most of Poles are despising the Jews and detest them, when I ask them. Why you hate Jews? Some says, Poland is NOT their own homeland, and some says that Jews completely were established hegemony over everything in the country. Of course those fools blame the Jews on their problems. Simply Poles are very very much jealous, and they do not wish a good for others. They are an intolerant, even their jokes surprisingly stupid and silly. I saw many Poles hate the US, so I do NOT like them; I extremely hate everyone who scorns the US greatness and Israel.
Mr. Andrzej Lepper, the leader of political party (Samoobrona RP) (Self-Defense of the Republic of Poland). He was the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development between May 5, 2006, and September 22, 2006, and again from October 16, 2006 to July 9, 2007. His party was the 3rd biggest party in the Polish parliament (Sejm) with 56 seats, shockingly, Lepper is an anti-the US and Jews. The Interregional Academy of Personnel Management in Kiev, Ukraine, private institution which actively promotes anti-Semitism awarded Mr. Lepper with two honorary doctorates and a honorary professorship.
Mr. Roman Giertych, He also was the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education until August 2007. He was a member of the Polish parliament (Sejm) until October 2007, and the leader of LPR party. For several years he was a member of the National Democratic Party and the National Party, which merged with several other organizations to form the League of Polish Families (LPR) in 2001. Mr. Roman Giertych is son Mr. Maciej Giertych who was member of the Polish parliament between 2001 and 2004 and a current Polish member of the European Parliaments since 2004, BOTH Giertych shockingly are an anti-Semite. And also the Polish presidential campaign in which Lech Walesa’s supporters smeared an opponent with the (false) rumor that he was partly Jewish “Mr. Walesa, the former president of Poland, his party has received a great support of the US”.
In the US, you have the most famous Pole in America is Mr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, rather you have “Zbigniew Carter and Jimmy Brzezinski”. Mr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, Shockingly, is an anti-Semite. In our world “the Arab world”, both Brzezinski and Carter are greatly respected people.
Most probably you someday could see Polish diplomatic places will become a good sanctuaries for those who anti-Semitic.
However, the Polish Jews were virtually wiped out where that Jews are NO longer a significant part of the Polish society, although they were almost about one-third Poland population. Before the war, about 3.5 million Jews lived in Poland. Today, there in Poland no more than 15,000 Jews, out of a population of 38 millions. More than 75 per cent of the Jewish population in Poland was concentrated in urban areas whilst only 25 per cent lived in rural regions. Their domains included “commerce, the crafts, industry and professions such as medicine and legal practice.” In Warsaw, over 60% of all physicians were Jews. The Polish Jews contributed not only to the development of housing in the cities, but also to municipal services thanks to their various public buildings “community buildings and organizational seats”, cultural facilities “schools and theaters”, religious buildings “temples, synagogues, and cemeteries”, and communal buildings “hospitals, orphanages, and social care homes”. These mementos of Jewish life were almost totally obliterated during World War II by the Nazi barbarism and their collaborators. The official anti-Semitic campaign of the Polish government in 1967- 1968 even before that led to the exodus of most of Poland’s surviving Jewish population. The historical facts proved that Jews had been MASSACRED AND ROBBED BY POLES during World War II.
Jews are worthy of respect, the incredibly positive impact the Jews have had on the world, the Jews have participated a very very great contribution in the history of Western culture. The Jews are only a tiny percentage of the population on the earth, less than 15 million people scattered through the world–today not more than twenty million–they have come from the tragedy “Holocaust”, yet they forced the world to respect them, with their knowledge, NOT with their gun, NOT with their violence. They united and won their rights through work and knowledge. Most considerably, the Jews have contributed of values that are now linked with freedom and democracy “respect for life, justice, equality, peace, lore and sciences, education…etc”. A big part of this amazing and wonderful technology we have only thanks to Jewish mind. Most of great scientists and the most famous and influential of all time are Jews such as Einstein, Freud, and Marx.

Mar 11, 2009 - 9:34 pm 43. Camo:Most sadly, there are Jews are an anti-Semitic, where they extremely an anti-Zionism. But I would like to tell them: “You are NOT a Zionist you are NOT a Jew, you will remaining scorned by others.”
naftali:
“It’s not just a hatred or a choice…there are areas of the brain hard-wired to recognize Gd, there are areas of the brains of Antisemites that are hard wired to hate Jews and seek their destruction.”
Interesting point. People who do not fear or love Gd, are convicted. As a convict, they lash out at those who remind them of the devine power. All are “hard wired” so to speak, but thrash out at short-circuiting the connection.
Mar 12, 2009 - 4:02 am 44. Gary Ogletree:To 6, Naftali: Hatred toward specific groups has to learned. That would be the Koran for the modern Persian. In the West, every now and then someone will say to me, “Let me tell you about the Jews…” from someone who knows nothing but what some fool told him. Arabs might be able to live with Jews– except for the Koran.

Gary, I’m very familiar with the concept that hatred has to be learned. I grew up with it. I’m saying that this particular hatred has a different form. I hear plenty of folks say negative things about Jews, but even so, I’m very careful about using the word ‘antisemitic’.
Yes, there are learned hatreds towards Jews, there is peer pressure hatred, but when we talk about Purim, we are talking about a whole ‘nother kind of hatred. And those are the folks that I call antisemitic.

You are still looking for those easy targets in a sea of targets. All your past presumptions have come up blank. Take a look at the world as it actually is for a change instead how you want to conjure it up to be. BTW like Adam Smith, Tocqueville only got it partially right, there was so much he didn’t perceive.
