The Ancient Evil

If you get rid of the Jews, you’re going to pay a big price, both because of the restlessly inquiring nature of Jewish religious culture, and because the Jews are what Slezkine calls the West’s quintessential “Mercurians,” outsiders who take the risks necessary to advance the human enterprise, while the more secure and comfortable others live off accumulated capital and find comfort in established tradition.  And there may be a genetic component, although the taboo against saying such things remains firmly in place.

I think that there’s considerable confusion about the relationship between European Jew-hatred and appeasement of radical islam.  It is certainly not the case that all European antisemites are tolerant of Muslims, let alone of jihadism.  A few months ago, some Austrian right-wing extremists defaced the wall around the Matthausen concentration camp.

The graffiti read “The progeny of Muslims are for us what the Jews were to our fathers. Be on your guard. A third world war – an eighth crusade.”  For these angry people, the Muslims and the Jews are lumped together as enemies, which prompted a commenter to note that the Austrians are probably surprised at the alternative to the Jews.  They killed and expelled their Jews, and they got the Muslims in their stead.  The graffiti writers aren’t happy about it.

Here and there one sees some Europeans losing patience with the Muslims.  Geert Wilders, an outspoken Dutch critic of the Islamists, now heads the most popular political party in the Netherlands, even though he lives in a bunker, surrounded by security guards.  The Italian Government is applying some surprisingly tough standards to would-be immigrants, most of whom are Muslims.  This comes after years of a politically correct open door policy to new arrivals, actively supported by at least some elements of the Catholic Church.  And a couple of years ago I was in Krakow, Poland, and several of the town leaders said they were looking for a way to convince Jews to return.  They had seen and understood the consequences of the destruction of the Jews.

I wonder if we Americans do.  One has to be struck by the remarkable animus toward Israel demonstrated by some of the leaders of this administration, as by various pundits and politicians.  It is quite astonishing to see the Obama White House dispatch waves of diplomats to make nice to Iranians–at the very moment that Tehran is stepping up the violence against Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan–while sternly warning Israel not to “surprise” us by taking action against the fanatical ayatollahs who have vowed to destroy the Jewish state.  Why would anyone be surprised if a sovereign state defended itself against an outspoken and vicious enemy?  And why would the United States want to prevent it from doing so?  It reminds one of Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s fine line about the Carter Administration: “Unable to distinguish between their friends and their enemies, they have ended by adopting their enemies’ view of the world.”

There are those who like to say that the Jews are the canaries in the global mine shaft–an alarm of impending danger–but I think that misses the central point.  When societies turn against the Jews, they seal their own doom, by depriving themselves of the creative energy that Jews have so often provided to Western civilization.

The evil of Jew-hatred is right in front of our noses–it’s what Roger Simon experienced so viscerally when he was in Geneva–and as so often in the past, we prefer not to see it (it is the central theme of my forthcoming book Accomplice to Evil).  Even most Jews deliberately blind themselves to it, as they did before and during the Holocaust, and so often before that.  I do not think that the Jews will ever be destroyed; far more powerful forces than those arrayed against us today have tried and failed.  But I do fear that far too many of our leaders are falling prey to the ancient evil.  The Europeans fell for it in the last century, and are passing from the stage of world history.  Let us fight against it here and now.

UPDATE:  The Ledeens are now en route to Naples, for rigorous research on the origins of pizza (do YOU know where the buffaloes came from that produce the milk that makes the cheese that goes on the pizza?).  So I will be a bit slow managing comments for the next coupla days.

It is amazing where antisemetism rears it sugly head

“Arkansas State Senator Kim Hendren, the only announced Republican challenger to Blanche Lincoln, explains why he called Chuck Schumer “that Jew” at a recent forum:

“At the meeting I was attempting to explain that unlike Sen. Schumer, I believe in traditional values, like we used to see on The Andy Griffith Show. I made the mistake of referring to Sen. Schumer as ‘that Jew’ and I should not have put it that way as this took away from what I was trying to say,” Hendren said.

Well thanks for clearing things up, Sen. Hendren.

When you called Schumer “that Jew” it certainly sounded derisive (kind of like when McCain called Obama “that one”). But (speaking as a guy who happens to be Jewish) it wasn’t the most offensive thing in the world.

But now you’re saying that by calling Schumer “that Jew” you were trying to explain that “unlike” Schumer you “believe in traditional values”

While waiting for a bus someone turned to me and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t throw you under the wheels of the bus”. I quickly moved away from that person.

It’s been a long time (in relative terms) it seems since someone once said that Israel has the right to defend itself, then now where someone reassured Israel they will not be thrown under the wheels of the bus.

Doesn’t everyone realize that in order to appease the Islamic World, Israel must be thrown under the wheels of the bus.

Some of the worst anti-Semites, for all practical purposes, are secular Jews. They desperate wish to be perceived as advanced and elite. Minorities of all sorts, it must be added, often desire to abandon their roots—and Jews are no different. Catholic Uncle Toms, for instance, have long stuck a knife in the back of their co-religionists. But the Jews have the added problem of being such a very small percentage of the overall population of the world. The impact of their self-haters can be far more damaging and even life threatening.

I too took note of what happened to countries that scapegoated jewish people. Its quite infuriating that humanity as a whole seems to be quite dumb not to learn this lesson after ..oh 5000 years or so.They just keep on making the same mistakes over and over as if its going to change from last time.Well its different now…we’re armed and well aware of who our enemies are both overtly and covertly.Theres a time to be nice until its time to not be nice.

And what of the Anti-semitism of the Christian right? Before Muslims became public enemy #1, I recall many a bible thumper referring to Jews as Christ killers.
Even now, many of those who befriend Israel and Jewish people do so because they believe their backing of Israel will help quicken the coming of the End Times. Times where they also believe Jews will ultimate have to accept Christ as their savior or else.
At least many Muslims just outright hate Jews, rather than being a false friend because the end justifies the means.

Contrary to what Middleman says Christianity is the greatest bulwark against anti-semitism in the United States.

Anti-semitism is ineradicable.

Huh? Where did I say anything like that? I only pointed out the not at all exceptional self-hating of minority groups. This is why I also mentioned the phenomenon of Catholic self-hatred. Secular liberal Jews are more often than not extremely dangerous people. They usually have embraced the notion that the Israelis are oppressors of the dark skinned Palestinians.

One interesting development in Iran is that the news that Ahmadinejad being actually from the very recent (less than 30-50 years) Iranian Jews who converted to Islam, where his old Iranian birth certificate makes this case.

I know of one family that in early 1900 for fear of losing lands and property in Iran, many of them converted to Islam and was asked to do so by their rabbi at the time, like Hussein Shariatmadari, who is the head of Keyhan newspaper and also connected to killing of many intellectuals in Iran.

Saeed Emami was his assistant who was the executioner of the orders by Shariatmadari and higher ups in killing many great political and intellectual figures in Iran. Regime later said that while in custody at Evin prison (same place that Saberi was held) Saeed Emami drank (or forced him to drink!!!) hair removal liquid, which killed him.

Many of these converts also add a new LEGAL name to their last name, which many proudly indicates this conversion for public to know which is called “Jadid-Ol-Islam”, which means new to Islam.

According to Dr. Mehdi Khazali in Iran, who made this multi-part TV interview with one of the Iranian satellite TV in Los Angeles (here is the link, but it is in Farsi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7VNSLv-2hM&feature=related) Ahmadinejad, along with some other conservative Muslims in Iran were indeed new converts to Islam.

One interesting point this guy mentions is that this group of Iranian Muslims, which are related to the scary Mahdaviat, and their leader being Mesbahe Yazdi, and more than anything believe in the 12th Imam Mehdi than they believe in prophet Mohammad.

This researcher says that the reason Ahmadinejad has such a close relationship with the Neturei-Karta Jews in New York (http://www.nkusa.org/aboutus/index.cfm), which they also proudly attended the anti Zionism conference in Tehran is that both groups believe is somewhat of similar concept of a savior that will come, where in Ahmadinejad case is called 12th Imam Mehdi, and in the other group is called the Messiah.

May 14, 2009 - 2:56 pm 20. JP49:

Well I’m a Baptist but we were never taught that Jews killed Christ. Instead we were taught that a Roman soldier thrust a spear into his side. I don’t think Christians are false friends to Jews unless your talking about politicians. Instead most Christians believe the Bible and that the Jews are God’s chosen people. Catholics taught, although I don’t know if it is currently true, that Jews killed Christ. It is better that the Jewish people have Christian friends because most of us won’t smile at you while trying to slit your throat as the Muslims will. We will tell you what we truly think. I have many close Jewish friends. I think it would be better if Christians and Jews unite before its too late to stop the Muslim world takeover. Did you read that a sign was recently posted in an Austrian hotel “Jews not allowed”?

May 14, 2009 - 4:05 pm 23. Marie Claude:

“Those days are long gone, and the Europeans’ willingness to tolerate and encourage the worst of Islamic Jew-hatred is one part of the relapse into a broader intolerance of things Jewish, and of the Jews themselves. The results are what you’d expect: French and British Jews are leaving in significant numbers, and their departure signals a brain drain of some importance. Anyone who looks at the spectacularly high numbers of Nobel prizes awarded to Jews in science and literature can easily establish that.”

You can’t even say “dirty Jew”, it’s condamned by a severe law. But the law doesn’t apply to the foreign medias, ie TV channels that come from ME, the net… so it’s where “propaganda” has a pass in the immigrants’ homes.

The anti-semitism is more of a youth phenomenon, empathy for the Palestinian cause is the main reason. This has no more to be compared with what it was before the WW2, at least, what is repproached to the Jews has not the same images, but to kind of warmongers imperialists’.

I don’t see that our Jews are leaving in mass, there are candidates to emigrate wherever they feel they can have a good opportunity to make businesses, or the retireds that go to warm their old bones in Tel Aviv la playa new resort, as they would go to south of France if they could afford it, but unfortunately Provence has become a billionaire place.

It was also said that our youth was leaving in mass because of unemployment… Again, these facts were are exagerated.

I don’t deny that the Jews position is on the rasor blade line at the moment, generally the religious ones are more concerned, I don’t see that secular Jews facts appear in the infos, at least not more that a mere french would, till we can’t differency them.

May 14, 2009 - 4:12 pm 24. Ran:

David, to add to your points (a bit off-topic, but): A rabbi once noted that “The Trotskys make the Revolutions. The Bronsteins… pay the price.

Contrasts well with General George Washington’s address to the Touro Congregation in Rhode Island. There are a tremendous number of Christians – especially on the Right – who understand that at it’s core, anti-Semitism is an attack too on Christendom.

May 14, 2009 - 4:17 pm 25. David Thomson:

“A rabbi once noted that “The Trotskys make the Revolutions. The Bronsteins… pay the price.”

Communism doctrine inherently demands that all Jews engage in self-hating. Joseph Stalin was planning to eradicate the Jewish citizens of the Soviet Union just before he died. Communists particularly despise Jews, both secular and religious, because of their emphasis on personal accomplishment. Trotsky’s abandonment of his Jewish family name is evidence of this phenomenon. At the end, needless to add, it did not save him.

Jews do not have a monopoly on self-hatred. I strongly believe that all minorities are tempted to reject their background in order to curry favor with the more dominant majority. It’s human nature. Nobody feels comfortable with being an outsider.

May 14, 2009 - 4:37 pm 26. DavidN:

I don’t think anti-Semitism, in any of the forms above, has been properly diagnosed here. Instead, I feel that it’s part of the bread-and-circuses paranoia that allows the plutocrats and mullahs who run the Middle East to continue to do so. Why are you poor? It’s because of the Jews… Why can’t we destroy Israel, rape all their women, and steal all their neat stuff? Because the Americans are controlled by the Jews too… Why don’t we have any neat stuff? Because the Jews stole it… Etc. Etc. Etc… Meanwhile, the leader (President, Mullah, King, whatever you call him) is off to his yacht on the Riviera, to gamble in Monte Carlo, screw his European mistress, and meet with bankers, assuring them that his people are too “primitive” for democracy, but that he personally has a large amount of money to deposit in their institutions. It’s sort of a never-ending fiasco, and no one seems able to do anything about it. Hell, a few years ago, I read an article (in the LA Times, believe it or not) blaming—brace yourself—Pokemon on the Jews, because it was part of a Zionist conspiracy to destroy Islam! Paranoid delusions over there are so prevalent even a whisper of common sense is swept away.

May 14, 2009 - 4:43 pm 28. Jerry:

My 3-year old grandson took his first haircut on Tuesday last, a Jewish tradition I will leave unexplained, since it is irrelevant to the post. My “mache’tanim” a word that does not have an equivalent in English were at the barber shop with their other grandchildren. (The word means ‘the parents of my child’s spouse, in-laws, but with the additional coloration of extended family.) She has three children, eight grandchildren, plus at least two on the way. Her children enjoy raising their children, as does my daughter. That is how the Jews will survive

The people to whom this article refers as ’self-hating’ Jews are, on the whole, breathing their last genetic breaths. In a valueless world, in a meaningless universe, the pain and joy of raising children are a blessed waste of time. Where there exists even the simplistic goal of Darwinian survival, the family remains central. The self-hating Jews have lost even that motivation. This is a classic case, among many, of the potentially murderous effects of the “truth.”

May 14, 2009 - 4:56 pm 29. Globalizer:

Michael,

I have the highest respect for you. We worked together on articles on South Africa and nuclear proliferation in the 1970s. I grew up as a concert violinist surrounded by talented Jews. (I am still, however, a little miffed by their rejecting me as a suitor for their daughters…) My doctoral chairman was a famous Jewish economist. I have the greatest respect, nay love, for all the Jewish doctors, scientists, musicians and artists who have done so much to enrich humanity. I am a strong supporter of Israel (and a fan of Bibi).

But there is a problem. Yuri Slezkine, whom you cite approaches it in Chapter 3 of his great book. Solzhenitsyne states it more clearly in his two volume work, Two Centuries Together, which has been suppressed in English (I read it in French). Why is it that so many ethnic Jews have not only rejected the basic tenets of their religion, e.g., the Ten Commandments, but why is it that they (a) are so prone to fall for secular messianic utopian “religion substitutes,” including Communism and Socialism, and (b) have such hatred toward believing Christians who, in both Czarist Russia, and far more so in the United States, really didn’t treat Jews all that badly; indeed welcomed them and treated them as equals or more. A majority of students in many Russian universities were Jewish in the late 1800s! (OK, there were pogroms, ‘tho many of those had economic turf-war origins. And they were awful…7000 dead or so over a century. But 20million (!) in revenge…??? The Gulag and the Ukranian terror famine were disproportionately run by ethnic Jews like Yagoda and Kaganovich. Sverdlov and his gang murdered the Tsar and his family.)

Here in the US, in our new HopeyChangey administration we have Axelrod, Emanuel (Auerbach), Orzag, Soros (Schwartz), Rattner, Bloom, Summers, Pritzker, Wolf running the show, and Fuld, Weil, Rubin, Frank and Schumer to “credit” for much of the crisis we are in.

As I have said in another post on this subject, I greatly admire your co-religionists, but many of your co-ethnics terrify me, and others. They have a profound hatred of Christians (I am quoting a Jewish musician friend, here). That is also a problem. And it is not “anti-Semitism” to say so.

I would never vote for a person who slept with my ideological enemies (especially on a voluntary basis).

Except that Christians don’t believe they are required to do anything to the Jews. It will all be in Gods hands. It could be considered vile, believing that one day the Jews will be forced to accept Christian values on pain of hell. But Christians aren’t actively working to destroy Israel or kill anybody in order to bring that about.

Muslims are, and if you weren’t such a relativistic leftist moron, maybe you would understand that

Why do Jewish liberals vote for and in fact help elect to office those that are, if not their enemies outright, sympathetic to those same enemies? May 15, 2009 - 3:18 am 34. Ken Besig:

Like most provocative issues, anti Semitism has both a positive and a negative side to it. While it is true that anti Semitism has led to blood libels and charges of deicide against the Jews, which in turn has led to pogroms and even the Holocaust of European Jewry, anti Semitism has played a role in preventing large scale Jewish assimilation into the surrounding Gentile nations as well as to some extent preventing the dilution of our people by hordes of Gentile converts. Indeed, the anti Semitism of the Arab nations towards Israel largely forced Israel to develop a strong and effective military force, a diversified and entrepreneurial economy, and most importantly, a self confident and well educated population which believes that the sky is the limit to our potential, all the while the Arab states so hateful and vindictive towards us wallow in ignorance, poverty, and brutal oppression and their Western supporters deprive themselves of our knowledge, our experience, our expertise, and our greatness as a People.
As a Jew I can acknowledge the great damage done to my people as a result of anti Semitism, and agree that overall, anti Semitism is probably a bad thing, while at the same time realizing that partly because of anti Semitism, we Jews are still here after two thousand years of pretty brutal exile and even stronger and more Jewish than we ever were before.

May 15, 2009 - 3:50 am 35. LynnS:

For example: The King of Jordan has said that for peace, Israel must accept a Palestinian State. Now for the switch, because the burden is off the Arab/Muslims/Palestinians to accept Israel. Israel must return the lands from the 1968 war. Now for the switch, because the burden of returning land that was taken when they were attacked in order to wipe them off the face of the earth, becomes the land they occupy. And for the icing on the Islamic Cake, they must accept dividing Jerusalem in half giving the east to the Arab/Muslims.

This is all a message from the “moderate” Muslim World. We have seen that the Arab/Muslims/Palestinians enjoy throwing someone under the wheels and running over them once, then twice, then thrice for good measure.

Did Goliath lose? No, Goliath became David and David became Goliath in the eyes of the World and we are fools. Once again the large Islamic World has but all the work onto Israel, while they lounge on their pillows of victim-hood.

May 15, 2009 - 6:56 am 37. Adina Kutnicki,Israel:

Jew hatred, otherwise known as anti-semitism, but also should include anti-zionism, is the oldest mental sickness known to man.

Its mutations have mutated alongside political facts on the ground, but nevertheless its core facet has remained. Regardless of what ails the world, Jews are somehow to blame.

The only real change in this timeless scourge is the following – presently, it has become acceptable to voice ones disgust, outrage, disdain etc about Jews, publicly and privately, without worrying about being considered beyond the pale. This unabashed anti-semitism would have been unthinkable years past.

In fact, IF one is not an anti-zionist(anti-semite, same difference)then one is shunned from ‘polite’ sophisticated society.

There is no doubt that the takeover of the universities and the media by the far left has allowed this disease to morph to unprecedented levels.

What starts with the Jews does NOT end with the Jews……

May 15, 2009 - 7:04 am 38. Pastor of Muppets:

David Thomson: “Secular liberal Jews are more often than not extremely dangerous people. They usually have embraced the notion that the Israelis are oppressors of the dark skinned Palestinians.”

What a pathetic, baseless, and throughly incorrect comment. There is nothing extremely dangerous about a willingness to understand, and build stable relations with, the millions of Palestinians with whom you share a country. The very survival of Israel now depends on the secular liberal Israeli youth, since the conservative, ultra-religious old guard has shown itself time and time again to be capable only of creating more refugee camps which spawn more terrorists. To people like you, Israel is abstract; it’s a political/religious symbol; a military advantage. Many of the folks who actually live there, and have to deal with the daily threat of violence that invitably erupts from caging millions of people on your border, don’t have that luxury.

Regardless of whether or not you believe the Palestinians have a rightful claim to any part of Israel, the fact remains that they are there, and they will not just pack up and leave, so if the country is to survive at all, compromises must be made, and accords brokered. And folks like you, who only see the world as Us V. Them, will never play any meaningful role in that process.

But that’s because peace is simply not an imperative for folks like you.

As dangerous as you think the liberal secularists are, the danger they pose couldn’t possibly compare to the danger posed by the American chickenhawk right-wing reactionaries who are praying for an Israeli-Palestinian bloodbath so that 1) Israel will become the buffer separating America from the hornets nest of terrorists we decided to poke with a stick in the Bush years, and so that 2) you can hasten your glorious rapture. Yeah, let’s not forget that Israel has to be blown to bits before Jesus will ride down on his gumdrop chariot and carry you up to the big rapture rainbow land in the sky.

Sure, many of the liberal secularists get it very wrong about the motives of the Palestinians, and are often on the wrong side of the debate. But at least they do not have as a fundamental religious belief that Israel must be destroyed before they get into heaven.

The belief that “Israel must be destroyed before they get into heaven” does not describe the belief of any Christian denomination that I’m aware of. Most believe that Christ’s return will coincide with the destruction of Israel’s enemies:

I suppose it would be the height of folly to ask that you enlighten us on what obscure version of Christianity has “as a fundamental religious belief that Israel must be destroyed before they get into heaven.” Either way, your attempt to portray this belief as widespread is typical of your oft-exhibited dishonesty.

Michael, I know that you are a patriotic American, but as long as the wrong members of the family are in charge (didn’t George Orwell say that about the influence of the Cliveden Set on the Chamberlain Government?) – it is time for people to keep their options open.

Whether it is the punishment of allies in various forms, economic or what-have-you, or just sheer stupidity and arrogance – whatever goes ’round comes ’round.

I am thinking that countries which sign onto the Borjomi Declaration can fill the void that the perfidious mountebanks in the White House can create, and that the union of 50 states will disintegrate, but I refuse to tie myself to something that refuses to learn from history and is wounding itself.

Both Christians and Jews know what its like to be persecuted to the death, just read Foxes Book of Martyrs or Martyrs Mirror and you’ll know the story.
Most people in this country are here because they or their relatives were once persecuted somewhere on the face of this planet for believing something. Many true Christians were persecuted by other Christians (Catholics). Many Jews were wiped out or enslaved in the first jihad. We all should know the modern history. The memory of these things is not buried that deep and that feeling of “never again” will take on a new and fresh meaning.
Persecution is on the rise again especially with the second jihad going on now. Hatred makes strange bedfellows but when hatred is consummated the haters are doomed as history proves.
This time we see a uniting of Christians and Jews that will become greater and greater the more the persecution level rises.
This time the haters will be destroyed before they can consummate the hate.
The unprecedented level of the exposure of the evil that lives in dark is helping but it’s the cry of the believers that motivates the King. The time for the punishment of the Christians and Jews is over. It is now time for their victory which will be a permanent victory.

peoples success rather than understanding that you will be a lot more

Every criticism of Jews isn’t anti-semitism.

Everyone in the world has to endure some type of criticism, yet Jews need to shut down any negative by shouting anti-semite. It is truly getting old. The Jews are very successful people in the world, nothing anyone says seems to stop their success and yet all they do is complain if someone says something negative about them. White males get disparaged daily, as do Christians. No one says a thing about that. But say one word against a Jew and it’s anti-semite this and that.

May 16, 2009 - 9:49 am 50. Jassem Othman:

The Jewish people are worthy of respect, the incredibly positive impact the Jews have had on the world, the Jews have participated a very very great contribution in the history of Western culture and civilization. The Jews are only a tiny percentage of the population on the earth, less than 15 million people scattered through the world–today approx not more than twenty million–they have come from the tragedy “Holocaust”, yet they forced the world to respect them, with their knowledge, NOT with their gun, NOT with their violence. They united and won their rights through work and knowledge. There are many more Jewish professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and teachers. Generally, the Jews concentrated in urban areas, and they continued to own, manage, or work in small businesses, their domain included “the commerce, the crafts, industry and professions such as medicine, legal practice”. The Jews continued to play important roles in movements for social change and they considerably have contributed of values that are now linked with freedom and democracy “especially the civil rights, respect for life, peace, justice, equality, lore and sciences, education …etc.
Yes, the two countries in which Jewish genius has made its greatest post-Holocaust contribution are not in Europe, of course they are only Israel and the United States. The United States is the only country that contained the Jews, the United States became is home to the second largest Jewish community in the world after Israel.

For example HERE in Poland, the historical facts proved that Jews massacred and robbed by Poles. The Polish Jews were virtually wiped out where that Jews are NO longer a significant part of the Polish society, although they were almost about one-third Poland population. Before the war, about 3.5 million Jews lived in Poland. Today, there in Poland no more than 15,000 Jews, out of a population of 38 millions. However, the Jewish population made up about one-third of the population of cities in central Poland. More than 75 per cent of the Jewish population in Poland was concentrated in urban areas whilst only 25 per cent lived in rural regions. There was, therefore, a marked concentration of Jews in these specific areas. Their domain included (commerce, the crafts, industry and professions such as medicine and legal practice). In Warsaw, over 60% of all physicians were Jews. The Polish Jews contributed not only to the development of housing in the cities, but also to municipal services thanks to their various public buildings (community buildings and organizational seats), cultural facilities (schools and theaters), religious buildings (temples, synagogues, and cemeteries), and communal buildings (hospitals, orphanages, and social care homes). These mementos of Jewish life were almost totally obliterated during World War II by the Nazi barbarism and their collaborators of Poles who treated Jews ruthlessly “the same is true of Ukrainians, Lithuanians, Latvians, and Croatians”. The official anti-Semitic campaign of the Polish government in 1967- 1968 even before that led to the exodus of most of Poland’s surviving Jewish population. In general the Europeans robbed and killed and expelled the Jews during the Holocaust. Europe is still at present suffers considerably of racism and virulent disease (Anti-Semitism). The European right wing extreme Parties which is share avowedly racist and Anti-Semitic views still correlates with fascism as ideological references. Indeed it is very outrageous and shameful on Europe that more than 60 years after the inhuman immoral Holocaust a presently you could see in European Parliament a group of politically active racists and Anti-Semites has joined forces and qualified for funding within the European Parliament system.

It is clear that a big part of technology we have now is thanks to the great contribution of Jewish mentality. Most of great scientists and the most famous and influential of all time are Jews such as Einstein, Freud, and Marx. The Jews are a tiny percentage in the United States (approx 2.1%). nonetheless they have an amazing effect in all scopes of life in the United States. The American Jews were much more likely to earn their living in white-collar jobs than as workers in factories or small shops, as usual they concentrated in urban areas in the US. out of the 5.2 million Jews in the U.S., it is estimated that 95 percent live in the top metropolitan areas, today the American Jew would play an increasingly important role in world Jewish affairs after the war. However, according to reliable statistic information:
50 % from the best of hundred intellectual in the US through the past four decades they are Jews. 20 % of higher education professors in the best-respected universities in the US, they are Jews. Jews possess 40 % of the major law offices and corporations in New York and Washington. 59 % of authors and producers for the 50 films that fulfilled very huge returns between; 1965 – 1982 they are Jews. 25 % from the best journalists in media and publishing houses, they are Jews. 17 % of presidents of the big non-government organizations, they are Jews. 15 % of official respected positions in the US government, they are Jews. Half US millionaires are Jews. Jews possess the major three TV companies and the biggest four cinema studios and the biggest press houses in the US. Today Israel possesses almost more than 13 % of research centers in the world. Today they the most influential in all scopes, they just are worthy of respect. In person I extremely admire them and very very very so much proud of them, they are a very witty people and very successful and it is very necessary we learn from them too! Moreover, we should do not forget that Jews are “well-mannered, intelligent and generous people”.

Unfortunately we/they “Muslims” surprisingly and deeply believe in conspiracy theory even if for our good that became a common denominator with their backers of Socialist-Communist Europeans and today the existence of both country “the United States and Israel” are threatened by radical Muslims and the evil regimes that supported by some European government.

I believe that there are a many of Jews who are forming real threat to the Israeli State’s existence, they Secular liberal Jews such as Mr Tony Judt and Mr. David Weiss and others. Above all they extremely Anti-Zionists and against Israel’s existence i.e. Anti-Semitic, they are criticizing Israel’s existence as a Jewish State. They want to end Jewish self-determination and that Mr. Weiss is good advocate to Hamas organization. So I do NOT think “the end justifies the means” is applies on friends of Israel!!! This is baseless and thoroughly incorrect. Of course there are a lot of non-Jews loyal friends to Israel and they are VERY EXTREMELY loyal to Israel more than some Jews themselves, or calling themselves “Jews”.
So I think the end justifies the means eventually “KEEP GOOD OVER EVIL” and both the United States and Israel always are GOOD FOR NATIONS!!!
May God bless the United States and bless Israel.

Mr. Ledeen, I consider you one of the few straight shooters around.

You might like this quote from “Omnipoent Government” by von Mises in 1944—

So, factor in the following paragraph from the chapter, ANTI-SEMITISM AND RACISM, pages 184-185:

“Nearly all writers dealing with the problem of anti-Semitism have tried to demonstrate that the Jews have in some way or other, through their behavior or attitudes, excited anti-Semitism. Even Jewish authors and non-Jewish opponents of anti-Semitism share this opinion; they too search for Jewish faults driving non-Jews toward anti-Semitism. But if the cause of anti-Semitism were really to be found in distinctive features of Jews, these properties would have to be extraordinary virtues and merits which would qualify the Jews as the elite of mankind. If the Jews themselves are to blame for the fact that those whose ideal is perpetual war and bloodshed, who worship violence and are eager to destroy freedom, consider them the most dangerous opponents of their endeavors, it must be because the Jews are foremost among the champions of freedom, justice, and peaceful cooperation among nations. If the Jews have incurred the Nazi’s hatred through their own conduct, it is no doubt because what was great and noble in the German nation, all the immortal achievements of Germany’s past, were either accomplished by Jews or congenial to the Jewish mind. As the parties seeking to destroy modern civilization and return to barbarism have put anti-Semitism at the top of their programs, this civilization is apparently the creation of the Jews. Nothing more flattering could be said of an individual or of a group than that the deadly foes of civilization have well-founded reasons to persecute them.”

Pretty provocative, eh? Of course, Mises qualifies the above, but—-!

The Histradut party won every election for the first 38 years or so of the state, and there has NEVER been an Israeli government headed by a religious party, let alone a chariedi (or as you would call them, ultra-religious or ultra-Orhtodox) pary! The Christian right is not anti-semitic. That is a myth. Religious Christians revere Jews as spiritual ancestors. African-Americans actually consistently poll as the most anti-semitic group in the US. Americans are generally not anti-semitic. Charles Krauthammer put it, “America is the most welcoming, religiously tolerant, philo-Semitic country in the world. No nation since Cyrus the Great’s Persia has done more for the Jews.” I felt like this article credited Jews with making America great. I think they contribute to America’s greatness, but they are not solely responsible for America’s greatness. I don’t know whether I can even say that and emerge unscathed by an accusation of anti-semitism, but, you know what, I’m tired. And the stakes are too high. Now is a time for calmness and a time for honesty. I do not understand why American Jews overwhelmingly backed Obama, except that I think they must not care about Israel. But Rahm Emanuel’s is from Israel, it’s hard to imagine that he doesn’t care about Israel. I do not undertand it. Maybe if Mr. Ledeen or another Pajamas writer who might know something about it could address this issue? I seriously do not get it. It seems like American evangelicals are more into Israel than American Jews.

The disturbing growth of anti-Semitism, in both the West and in the Muslim world, is undeniable. A foreign policy which plays to that growth, which treats Israel as the greatest threat to world peace, is either cowardly or despicable or both.

I sometimes wonder if names are not a big part of the problem. We read that Israel was named only on the eve of partition, and that Samaria was an alternative possibility. Perhaps they should have been more direct and called themselves Jewland. Then at least we would be spared the piety of liberals claiming “I may be anti-Israel, but that doesn’t make me a Jew hater.”

Congratulations on your son’s participation in the Marines. Haaretz quoted Peres(?) the other day as saying that, with the Dreyfus Affair, Jews decided that nations and religions were the problem and they became communists, or that the Jews needed their own state and became Zionists. The first was an excessive reaction, in my view, to a hysterical old order dying. For an analogy, see Philadelphia Miss. and it’s first black mayor. Dreyfus couldn’t have been a soldier if his family wasn’t allowed into France’s business class. Rather than understanding this, Trotsky et al. ignited the flames of hell in Europe from potentially dying embers. The U.S is tougher; our alliance with you won’t be broken.

...transcend[s] mere descriptive narrative and seek[s] to fix a value—political, philosophical or strategic—on the events of 9/11…
—Tunku Varadarajan
Wall Street Journal

by Michael Ledeen

Michael Ledeen takes a fresh look at Tocqueville’s insights into our national psyche and asks whether Americans’ national character, which Tocqueville believed to be wholly admirable, has fallen into moral decay and religious indifference.

by Michael Ledeen

American Enterprise Institute resident scholar Ledeen offers an updated version of the rules for leadership laid down by Machiavelli. Its the nature of humans to do evil, and war is our natural state. Anyone who would wield power in such a setting, writes Ledeen, echoing Machiavelli, “must be prepared to fight at all times.” This is as true in business, sports, and politics as it is on the battlefield.
Kirkus Reviews

by Michael Ledeen

With the skill of a born storyteller, Michael Ledeen weaves together key moments in the fall of communism. His insider’s knowledge of the interplay of complex personalities and Byzantine strategies makes a compelling narrative, one enlivened by his wry wit and flair for the dramatic.

In this call to embrace the worldwide democratic revolution, the author argues that global democracy should be the centerpiece of U.S. strategy.
