it is no surprise that mainstream media has ignored this elephant. the msm does not cover issues of any complexity. free speech has become increasingly complex. it requires, among other things, continual vigilance to separate what is incitement from what is disagreeable, what is fake history and vicious canards meant to support murderous intent. it requires courage beyond appeasement and a sense of morality beyond profits. barred from these phony inflated lawsuits that are meant to smother and impoverish and frighten their targets, is hardly the end of the story. we can be sure with the vast sums of money available to fanatical islamists, they will be using freedom of speech, the foundation of democracy, which they despise, against us by other means.

The failure to pick up on this story, and the back-story in particular, I see, is measure of MSM’s appeasement to Islamic interests.
That in the United Kingdom the posting cost to go to court was an exceptional factor. That so much money of Saudi billionaire Khalid Salim Bin Mahfouz was able to overwhelm the UK courts by his own inflating of damages shouuld be the story.

This is, indeed, great news. Let’s hope it translates into a little more journalistic courage. How many US newspapers printed the (in)famous Mohammad cartoons? None, to my knowledge. How many US networks showed the cartoons? Ditto. How many of both ducked? All of them, I think. The greatest enemy of free speech is self-censorship based on the fear, however rational, of Muslim retribution.

Alan perhaps realises in his post above that actually the chattering Euro- clkass in the USA would like our laws to be subordinate to Brussells or the UN. They want disagreeable European laws enforced on Americans at home, because they think Europeans are so much more progressive than themselves. That’s why they won’t utter a peep.

This is great news. Commenter 1, you’re pretty close. I follow some left-wing media. I’ve heard this case come up several times. When it comes up, there is tangible discomfort and the issue is quickly dismissed as soon as someone attacks the accuracy of Ehrenfeld’s book. By assuming her to be guilty of libel and thus implicitly agreeing with the ruling, they avoid having to address the issue of disagreeable foreign laws being enforced on Americans at home.

I thought it was called libel tourism.
