I listened recently to a stream of invective directed against Israel on the basis that it is a "created" country, and many muslims felt impelled to leave (being unable to share territory, one assumes...) I pointed out that so is Pakistan, and many Sikhs, in particular, had been impelled to leave because of actual and grievous violence against people of their faith. Nobody's beefing about that - and they're not claiming 3rd generation perpetual refugee status. Hypocrisy incenses me!

Helen Freedman,

Beautifully said. I subscribe to so many notices from a plethora of Jewish organizations and it really bothers me when I see support of the Road Map. Everyone should be demanding an end to thoughts of giving land for "peace" when it hasn't been shown to work. A Jewish organization (my memory fails me) recently featured Condoleeza Rice as a keynote speaker - why? She's pushing for Israel's destruction in my opinion.

It's wonderful that UJA hosted such a gala celebration on the occasion of Israel's 60th birthday. I wonder if the leaders of the organization ever stop to think about their rubber-stamping of Israel's misguided policies against its own Jewish citizens since the signing of the Oslo "peace" accord in 1993. Perhaps the situation today where "Israel faces greater threats than ever before" which Ambassador Gillerman speaks about, would not exist if UJA and its millions of Jewish supporters had taken a different position over the years. All the appeasement of Arabs and their demands, in the face of their growing terrorist actions and threats, have simply brought Israel to the precipice where it is today - with the help of UJA, UJC, and most of the other main stream Jewish organizations. Their pride in Israel is justified, but how will they explain their disastrous mistakes to history?

I remember 6o years ago, when Arabs tried to persuade Brazil do accept 250,000"colonists" to settle in the Amazon. They wanted an area all of their own, almost autonomous, which Brazil denied, based on its long tradition not to allow settlements of that kind. Palestinians came, anyway, and established themselves mostly as merchants, and have been very successful at it. It is a pity that many of them stayed behind, and have created so much problem in the Near East.

It is incomprehensible that people on the left who support women's rights and gay rights will fight for those who commit honor murders and who—like Ahmadinejdad—hang teenagers for being homosexuals.
