Dear Phyllis:

Jeepers! You are always so bloody prescient and very, very readable. Bravo, kid. Hey, do ya know that via our state Left Labour Government, the Federal government in Australia passed a law in 2001 making it illegal to and I quote, "ridicule" or criticise religion...no, really. It's called the racial and religious vilification law.

For the faithless, though I'm not really one myself, faith is merely an ideology, and to say these simple ideas cannot be spoken or written about except in mindless and cowardly agreement is er, monstrous. God bless you Phyllis. I look forward to your writing el mucho!

Europe is fast approaching a fork in the road: either submission to Islam, or an internal tenth crusade.

It is written,
"Those who are kind to the cruel...end up being cruel to the kind"
Tolerating intolerance can bring only one result: more intolerance.

Dear Phyllis - Mr Robert Spencer's jihadwatch.org website is THE clearing-house for what one might call 'the jihad news' and it is, indeed, a chronicling of a 'gathering storm', as well as of the attempts, here and there, to resist the onslaught, or to warn.

Geert Wilders' splendid speech to the Danish parliament was posted and discussed on jihadwatch just within the last few days. I have come to admire Mr Wilders - I pray for him and for his wife (brave woman! it cannot be easy for her to have a husband out there in the firing line; and indeed, she herself may be in more danger than he - jihadi assassins would, I am sure, target her first in order to inflict maximum hurt upon *him*). In Oriana Fallaci's The Force of Reason Oriana quotes Pericles - 'the secret of happiness is freedom, the secret of freedom is courage'. It seems to me that Wilders, who in his speech on 1st June names Fallaci as one of his heroes is trying to put her and Pericles' counsel into action. (I understand that Wilders is a friend of Israel, has visited there; in 'Fitna' he makes sure to include a segment that warns of the reality of Islamic antisemitism, and its source in Islamic sacred books).

In Leon Uris' unforgettable fictionalisation of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, he represents a rabbi as telling the remnant -'the highest obedience to G-d is resistance to tyranny'. Whatever his faith or nonfaith, I think Wilders and those like him are doing holy work as they resist that totalitarian system of spiritual and political slavery which is coded into Islam.
