I just want to second the importance of what you're doing. I often hear people discuss what "historians" will say about this era. I don't think many people realize yet that if we lose everyting now will be jahiliyya (pre-Islamic beliefs and traditions) and therefore not worth discussing, plowed under and bulldozed as worthless, blown up like Buddha statues, and capped with mosques.

Assuming historians is a luxury we no longer have.

Dr. Chesler,

I wish I could comment on the other two blogs you posted this week at the same time, alas, I'll just include my comments on the two previous ones here! Your work is so important!

Thank you for shouldering the burden and being the scorekeeper in the dismal game of honor killings that are increasingly happening on our shores. Chapter 7 of your book THE DEATH OF FEMINISM, only three years ago, was a prescient wake-up call to America.

An honor murder every six months, you didn't predict it, but you gave us the lay of the land, so to speak!

I wish I could suggest that leaders and opinion makers in the American Muslim community rise up, forcefully, snarling and condemn these heinous acts of brutality. But, as you point out, the mainstream media turns to so called "Islamic Experts," who merely try to conflate, lump in, the dasterdly behavior of their own insular community, with our (American mainstream value) system, the problems of domestic abuse, domestic killing!

You're the psychoanalyst, the intellectual, please grapple with the questions that I can merely offer you:

1. American taxpayers should't pay for separate Muslim domestic abuse shelters, should they? Wouldn't that merely continue to lead to the isolation and segregation that gives these brutal killers such an uneven playing field to begin with?

2. Should we have trained personnel at law enforcement agencies, child welfare offices, shelters, etc. to deal with this new and escalating tragedy? But who will the potential victims trust, another Muslim? An enlightened civil servant outside of their kinship/cultural Oasis?

3. How do we expose, high and low, this "dirty little secret" that the PC police, intellectuals, the media, parents/brothers and sisters/EVERYONE only wants to whisper about and say it happens in every household in America?

Your work is cut out for you! May you, please enlight us before it is too late!

I can understand why women would want to support their own cultures even when their cultures oppress women. What I can't understand is why feminists in the United States and Europe manage somehow never to learn about these stories. Instead, they consider anti-Zionism a priority and relegate feminism to second place.
