What Does Abdulhakim Muhammed, the Little Rock Shooter, Have in Common With Hasibullah Sidiqi, the Ottawa Shooter, and the Riverdale Four?
Her brother was outraged. How could his sister — his own sister! — conduct herself like a whore? How dare she choose her own husband and worse yet, how dare she carry on a relationship with him prior to the marriage that should never have taken place? Both he and his family felt as if she had deliberately attacked them. Killing them was only an act of self-defense.
No, I am not talking about the Afghan-Canadian brother, Hasibullah Sadiqi, who has just been found guilty in Ottawa, Canada for having killed his sister and her fiancee and who has just been sentenced to 25 years to life. Rather, I am talking about the Pakistani-Dane Akhtar Abbas, who in 2006 shot his sister Ghazala Khan to death and also shot her husband, Emal Khan, who survived the deadly shooting.
There are many similarities between these two cases, and one very important difference. First, the similarities:
– Both cases involved Muslim brothers who shot and killed their younger Muslim sisters, aged 18 and 20, and who shot their Muslim brother-in-laws as well — only one brother-in-law died of his wounds.
– Both sisters were deemed guilty, not only of marrying men of their own choosing but of being intimate with them before marriage.
– Both victims were lured to their deaths by promises of false reconciliation or understanding.
– Both victims did not want to “believe” that their brothers or their families would really kill them.
– Both brothers and their sister-victims had essentially grown up in the West.
– The fathers of both victims had lived either in Canada or in Denmark for thirty to forty years.
– The prosecution in both cases recognized the murders as “honor killings” and prosecuted them as such.
Thus, some long-time Muslim immigrants in the West and their children, who have either been born in the West or who grew up here from a very young age, retain certain Old Country values and behaviors which constitute crimes in the West. Interestingly, the young women who chose their own husbands seem to have assimilated more into Western ways and were killed for this reason.
Here’s the crucial difference between these two cases. In Denmark, the designated shooter was tried — but so were eight other family members who decided that Ghazala must die. Ghazala’s father, a taxi driver who had lived in Denmark since 1970 and who had ordered the “hit”, received life in prison. Ghazala’s brother, who was 30 years old when he pulled the trigger, (he was also a taxi-driver), received 16 years in prison.
Here is where it gets interesting. Perveen Khan, Ghazala’s aunt-by-marriage who kept in contact with Gazala, and who arranged a “fake” reconciliation meeting, received fourteen years to be followed by permanent banishment from Denmark. Other Ghazala relatives and contacts — a maternal uncle, two paternal uncles, and three family friends — were also convicted of facilitating and collaborating in the murder and were sentenced to terms ranging from ten to sixteen years to be followed by permanent banishment from Denmark.
No doubt, Ghulam Abbas, the Pakistani-Danish father, sees himself as a noble martyr who sacrificed his own freedom for the sake of family honor so that his daughers and granddaughters and other relatives would remain eminently “marriageable.”

1. Greenconsciousness:and is any of this in the domestic terrorism projections of the report Homeland Security published,
“Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment”.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano included only a footnote attached to the report wherein right wing extremism in the United States” is defined as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority. “It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single-issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration,” the warning says.
Black Muslims though conservative and right wing in their sharia embracing politics are not mentioned.
Jun 2, 2009 - 12:35 pm 2. MiamaMan:Phyllis, your good article reads as a compendium of slaps on the wrist. Jails in Denmark are more advanced and provide better food and care than most public institutions in these sorry countries. Canada likewise.
Shall we go back to the Old Bailey times and public hangings within a week? Or else shall we seat around like Turkeys waiting to be slain?
Pervez, Mohammed, Abbas, Khan, Sadiqi, now, Abdulhakim, and then Ghulam, Ghazala, and on, and on, and on,….
Jun 2, 2009 - 12:46 pm 3. George Jochnowitz:These murderers have brought shame upon their families, upon their communities, upon their religion. They have dishonored Islam.
Jun 2, 2009 - 1:29 pm 4. Dr. Bukk:All Western countries should ban the covering of the face. Arrest any woman immediately and make her family bail her out. Do not let women enter commercial buildings with the face covered. The radicals will soon leave the country, as they have done in Tunisia.
If Muslims want to enjoy the fruits of Western life then they should be forced to uncover the faces of their women. Controlling women is so important to the culture this will drive them home and good riddance! Men can disguise themselves in burqas. It is not right to be unable to determine the gender of someone. Banks do not allow masked customers, and neither should any business.
Jun 2, 2009 - 1:50 pm 5. Self-hating Boomer:Here’s a prediction: this incident will languish and drop off the radar, and no one else related will even be questioned. The DoJ will however furiously (and very publicly) try to tie Roeder to Operation Rescue, and RICO charges will be filed. There will be wall-to-wall press coverage.
It’s all about who’s ox is being gored.
Jun 2, 2009 - 1:57 pm 6. MiamaMan:Come on George,
These are your good Judeo-Christian values speaking; times are getting short for that. This is like Dubyya repeating: Islam is a peaceful religion…Islam is a peaceful religion…
The murderers did not bring shame on their families or communities, but honor. That’s why these acts are named: honor killings. When they do this, their minds are fixed on the Muslim larger family, tribe, community, not on the Western surroundings.
Shame on their religion, that encourages this? You must be kidding.
Dishonored Islam? When this shameful fascist system of oppression have had any honor?
Jun 2, 2009 - 2:04 pm 7. Louis Santacroce:In spite of the fact that the Denmark assassins will spend their days in prisons that — in contrast to American lock-ups — are virtual country clubs, their judicial system did exactly what our judicial system does in virtually any crime BUT an “honor” murder: they treated it like the criminal conspiracy that it was, prosecuting (and convicting)everyone involved. Canada, the country that is actually debating whether to allow muslims to ignore Canadian law and live under shira law, did exactly what we do in such cases: let the person who pulled the trigger (or wielded the sword) bare sole responsiblity. Sadiqi’s father and co-sonspiritors probably celebrate the son as a hero for upholding “family values,” in the same way some Christians make heroes out of thugs who shoot abortion doctors. The difference is that few Christians will applaud those gangsters, while ALL muslims will cheer lustily every time another “dishonored” family is avenged. Hey — what do you think would happen if muslim women suddenly began avenging the honor of their sisters with swords and guns? Never mind; I’m afraid I already know.
Jun 2, 2009 - 2:17 pm 8. Ron:Isn’t that what RICO laws are for. The KKK, and Skin Heads were taken down with those laws. What about the Southern Poverty Law center? Don’t they seek out injustice where it is found. Also, could a Civil suit be filed against the organization
Jun 2, 2009 - 2:17 pm 9. bob:Go back to the Old Bailey times.
Jun 2, 2009 - 2:19 pm 10. Ms. Attitude:And to think the liberal left defends these people and the baby killer. Where’s their love for life?
Jun 2, 2009 - 3:22 pm 11. njcommuter:These crimes cry out, not for life imprisonment, but for the public ignominy of a six-foot drop on a well-soaped rope, followed by a most impious disposal of the remains.
Jun 2, 2009 - 4:49 pm 12. Dave:Ron #8: I doubt that “Lawyers for Southern Poverty” is willing to take on anybody who might be a credible threat to their own organization.
However, the rest of us have a tool at our disposal. Whenever there is a family, a Mosque, an Imman, a madrass, a training camp,
etc that gives the nearby citizenry cause for concern, the peace bond can be brought into play.
When distinct warning signs are detected, the miscreants get a visit from the local Sheriff
and cool their heels in the local slammer while until the bond is posted. Then if the bond is forfeited, (a) the money goes to somebody they do not like and (b) they go back to the slammer while awaiting trial on whatever charges are appropriate.
This will not cure the problem of course. However, it will “cramp their style” and provide a measurable amount of disruption
to their murderous fantasizing.
And farthermore, it does not require the DHS or any other feds to become involved. Or to spend money. Or to annoy the rest of us.
REgrettably, the peace bond has fallen into disuse in recent decades. But it can be revived. Let’s take things from there.
Jun 2, 2009 - 4:49 pm 13. Anonymous:Hang him. Unfortunately, there’s no one to “get” politically over this in order to not “waste” this crisis, so liberals aren’t very excited.
Jun 2, 2009 - 5:00 pm 14. Professor Guvinoff:Double standard is the the first step towards flexible standards, which ultimately leads to the annulment of any standard which is rendered elastic when timidity preempts equality under the law.
Nothing wrong with understanding, but that’s no excuse for allowing the transgression of our standards.
If you come to the US without the intent to assimilate, it is quite reasonable to question your motives. What was the mafia, if not the eventual outcome of willful un-assimilation?
Do you think a Christian woman would be both protected and forgiven in Saudi Arabia if she dressed like we do here? What’s the point of exonerating those who challenge our standards just because they enjoy the benefit of the doubt, at least initially?
Honor killings are not ordinary murders. They are also an assault against the western values.
We only make it worse by failing to enforce our own laws. These young ladies had internalized western notions of individual liberties, but we failed to protect them (and the others to come) by being unwarrantedly lenient towards those who arrogue themselves of transcendent rights in the land which welcame them. If you insist that your honor trumps the freedom, the dignity and the life of your sister, your wife and your mother, why can’t you stay where these priorities are considered acceptable?
Remember, our system of values was originally based on the ancient Greek reliance on logic, under which you cannot be right and wrong at the same time. This has been further affirmed by the judeo-christian morality, and should not be availaible for bargaining with those who insist they are right just because Allah willed it.
This is just a bad-cop-good-cop defense, and we don’t have to be gullible enough to be fooled, even less intimidated, by it.
Honor killing should be treated rigorously, and all the acolytes should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law as well, because they demonstrably encouraged the murder, willfully. This is the only way to protect the young muslim girls who grow up among us. If they are given citizenship, they also deserve protection against murderers of any motive. In the case of honor killings, protecting them, is also defending our own principles.
As Ms. Chesler is asking, why not?
Jun 2, 2009 - 5:03 pm 15. whataloadacrap:We don’t need any more laws on the books, we’ve got plenty of legal remedies for this jihadi idiot. The only thing we need is the balls to enforce them, and the will to punish him to the maximum extent allowable.
Jun 2, 2009 - 5:56 pm 16. ic:Apparently, Muhammed had been arrested in Yemen with a Somali passport. Shall we hold the Somalis responsible?
Shall we hold the United States responsible? The killer is a natural born American citizen.
Jun 2, 2009 - 6:01 pm 17. InfidelAlliance:What is one to expect from a guy named “Mujahid” (holy warrior) and “Muhammed” (sadistic murdering sociopathic genocidist “prophet” of Islam).
This is further evidence that every Muslim….every one….must ultimately face the ultimate question in Islam: Do they support civility or do they support Muhammed?
If they support civility, they must reject Muhammed, and the foundation of their religion crumbles, and they become apostates subject to the Islamic death penalty.
More proof: How many times have we heard, after some sort of Islamic butchery, the chorus of “Oh…he seemed like such a nice, quiet young man”??
That is what happens when you face the Muhammed question. And, sadly, that it why (among other reasons) it is so dangerous to trust followers of Muhammed.
Think about it.

Jun 2, 2009 - 6:34 pm 19. "progressive"watch:Waterboarding. Enhanced interrogation techniques. Obama’s disruption of American society has begun. Obama will support this Muslim terrorist in some way. Probably by undermining the prosecutors or the law.
Jun 2, 2009 - 7:19 pm 20. Suzy:The obama administration will not prosecute blacks or black muslims because obama is a black muslim. His daddy was the biggest black muslim of the world, Malcolm Little, aka Malcolm Shabazz, aka Malcolm XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Jun 2, 2009 - 7:28 pm 21. fred:Muslim converts from our prison system are not even on Homeland Security’s radar. But conservatives like me who believe in the Constitution are. “Bitter clingers to guns and religion” only applies to American conservatives, not to the jihad sons of Allah.
We have a new regime now and they expect us to get with the program. They’ll have a big to-do about Dr. Tiller and never mention the slain soldier.
Jun 2, 2009 - 8:16 pm 22. tovarish:If the two soldiers had been armed, would they have both lived?
Jun 2, 2009 - 9:39 pm 23. Tina Trent:Fred: if you are seeking grim reinforcement for your prediction, here is it:
http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0602/p02s01-usgn.html, “Concerns Mount That Suspect in Abortion Doctor Killing Had Extremist Ties.” Well, of course he did. That doesn’t seem to have been a secret. But then they go on to imply that “extremism” applies to many other Americans.
The Monitor has once again painted with a very wide brush, implicating vast categories of people (those upset about the economy?! the election?!) for the terroristic action of one man. Needless to say, the slain soldier story was not addressed.
I agree with the statements by the killer’s bereaved family, and I suspect the same is true of the man who opened fire at the recruitment center: unstable individuals do glom onto political extremes, left and right, secular and religious. Would they, otherwise, not kill? I doubt it.
Jun 3, 2009 - 6:02 am 24. Jaladhi:The Western media is now peddeler of lies when it comes to reporting Muslim crimes and their hate mongering against all non-Muslims. Unless and until truth is told to public about Islam and Muslims, these crimes of jihad will continue and the media will simply report these as “normal” crimes committed by “normal” criminal Muslims and that has nothing to with “religion” ofIslam. I don’t think these morons will ever tell the truth about Islam until they are all doomed when the followers of Islam will slit their necks. The media has ignored too many Muslim crimes as emnating from their religious background and the latest killing in Little Rock is another example of their stupidity – Ann Curry on NBC’sToday show “conveniently” chose not to talk about religion of the killer – a recent convert to Islam who went to Yemen to learn waging jihad against non-Muslims.. Would anyone in his senses call NBC and its anchors bastion of truth and journalism???? I think not!!!
Muslim jihad is going on in our own country right infront of our eyes but our media and the government is deliberately ignoring it
Jun 3, 2009 - 6:20 am 25. BL:Excellent Big Picture piece. Dr. Chesler, as your analysis of honorless murders and Islam expands the conclusions are quite unsettling. These murders can no longer be dismissed as “losers” acting alone or as isolated hanger ons to culture mores long ago abandoned by Islam. Prison converts to Islam and long established “Western” Muslims are still bound to committing these horrendous acts of violence in the name of Islam. Keep up your important analysis of these disturbing trends, your work here is more important than ever!
Jun 3, 2009 - 6:20 am 26. Canadian reader:Louis Santacroce: your statement “Canada, the country that is actually debating whether to allow muslims to ignore Canadian law and live under shira law” is untrue. The Canadian Parliament has neither proposed nor debated the use of sharia law.
Now, a few years ago, the Provincial Government of Ontario did look into the possibility of allowing Sharia law for divorce and inheritance. This ridiculous, typically uninformed proposal by the provincial government was quickly squelched by the overwhelmingly negative response from the citizens of Ontario and, in particular, by Muslim Women’s Associations across Canada.
On a more humorous – or ironic – note, I was wandering through the local mall a few weeks ago when I noticed three Muslim women covered from head to foot in great long black headcoverings and hideously huge, floor-sweeping coats buttoned to the neck – the three were standing in the doorway of a women’s clothing store chattering away – with their face veils hanging around their necks – underneath were three pretty, gum chewing, heavily made-up young women – it crossed my mind that in their own countries they might be flogged for uncovering their faces in public – In their own countries it’s the law – in our country it’s quite clearly a political statement – like the young girls in skin tight jeans and tops and headcoverings – I wonder if they realize how ridiculous they look to outsiders – nuns on the top and Madonna on the bottom. Nice look, girls – what happens when you want to go out with a man you choose?
Jun 3, 2009 - 7:41 am 27. MiamaMan:Even though I condemn the killing of Dr. Tiller, my gut relates to his killer, but I can’t feel no relationship whatever with the Jihadi Mohammed Muhadid. I have to be sincere about it.
With an alarming increase, from the 4 blacks American Muslims that wanted to bomb innocent people in synagogues, to this black American Muslim that killer the 2 soldiers, totally innocent people are being hunted down, but Homeland Security under Napolitano had not even identified this as a threat in his memo.
If could be, things as they are, that the so-called “extremist”, “rightist white groups” that many vilify finally become our salvation.
Jun 3, 2009 - 7:47 am 28. Middleman:#8 Ron,
You hit the nail on the head. If some lawyers really did their homework, I would imagine that you could file civil lawsuits against certain mosques and organizations for possibly providing hateful indoctrination and materials. You might even be able to connect the Saudi Arabia government if they are funding these organizations. If been successful against groups like the Klan and Aryan nations, and I’m sure it could be successful against radical Islam within the US since it’s typically spread via organizations.
I know the SPLC also monitors Black militants, however how further they would go with Islamic radicals is beyond me.
Jun 3, 2009 - 8:27 am 29. Chesler Chronicles » In Cairo, Will President Obama Present the Shooting in Arkansas as an Unacceptable Act of Islamic Jihad Against America?:[...] Yesterday, I suggested that we consider holding foreign governments and foreign jihadi groups, as well as American-based jihadi groups responsible, both criminally and civilly, for teaching, even ordering Muhammed to shoot two American soldiers, (Pvt. William A. Long who died and Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula, who was wounded) in cold blood in Arkansas as part of his “jihadic” mission. As the evidence mounts–its seems that such connections may indeed exist. [...]
Jun 3, 2009 - 10:41 am 30. Linda Rivera:The government has been fully aware for many years, that jails are used to convert to Islam-indoctrinate and radicalize massive numbers of inmates. As the government ALLOWS this, it makes the government guilty of aiding and abetting the indoctrination and Islamic radicalization of huge numbers of prison inmates – thus endangering all Americans.
Jun 3, 2009 - 11:44 am 31. Linda Rivera:Whilst pro-lifers, tea party tax protesters and returning American veterans who risked their lives for America, are considered the enemy by our government, terrorists and terrorist training camps are ALLOWED to prosper and multiply in America.
It is most ominous. Are Americans soon to lose their freedom?
Terrorist Camps in America
By Jamie Glazov
FrontPageMagazine.com | February 03, 2009
Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Ryan Mauro, the founder of WorldThreats.com.
FP: We’re here today to discuss “Homegrown Jihad: Terrorist Camps Around U.S.,” the new documentary being released by the Christian Action Network.
“Muslims of America” is a group set up by Gilani to act as a thinly-veiled front for Jamaat ul-Fuqra. There are at least 35 “Muslims of America” compounds in the U.S. alone, along with at least 3,000 members, many of which have criminal backgrounds.
Gilani: “We are fighting to destroy the enemy. We are dealing with evil at its roots and its roots are in America”, “Jews are an example of human Satans,” and “Act like you are a friend, then kill him”
FP: What sort of terrorism has Jamaat ul-Fuqra been involved in?
Mauro: Members of the group have carried out at least 17 firebombings and 10 assassinations, including stabbing a moderate Muslim cleric to death, bombing a power station, killing police officers, and attacks on Hindus. In 1991, five members were involved in a plot to bomb a Hindu temple and an Indian-owned cinema near Toronto; in 1993, one member was involved in the World Trade Center bombing; and five were involved in the massive “Day of Terror” plot aimed at bombing various buildings in New York in 1993.
Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was kidnapped on the way to meeting with Sheikh Gilani in Pakistan.
A September 2004 report by the National White Collar Crime Center said that “Members of the Fuqra group have raised money by taking advantage of a variey of social services programs, including worker’s compensation, public health care, welfare, and food stamps programs. Other crimes committed by Fuqra members include the creation and use of false identification cards, birth certificates, and other forged documents…” The report also confirms that Fuqra is recruiting criminals and describes them as “one of the most elusive terrorist groups resident in the U.S.”
FP: Why doesn’t the government shut down these compounds?
Mauro: There are a few reasons. The first is that Jamaat ul-Fuqra is not designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the State Department.

Warning: Gitmo still holds ‘throat-slitting’ inmates
December 23, 2008
By Bob Unruh
…detainees being held in modern facilities “filled with amenities that most American people could only dream of.”
…There also are three members of the medical profession, doctors and nurses, for each inmate…
“They watch movies weekly, eat a menu of six different diets from which they choose…
…the inmates “get prayer rugs, prayer caps, prayer beads and brand new Qurans. The guards may never touch the Qurans. Only a Muslim may deliver the books to the terrorists. If the terrorists are especially good, they get a fancier prayer rug.”
Inmates also are given art classes, taught English and have games, including soccer, chess, checkers and exercise machines.
…inmates at Gitmo on average gain 15 pounds. “The United States has even had to buy them bigger pants because they got so fat on their Gitmo meals,”

Obama asked to save prisoners from soy ‘torture’
November 18, 2008
By Bob Unruh
…Obama, Morell wrote, should “focus on a grave injustice taking place in the prisons of your home state, namely, a prison diet that is slowly killing the inmates assigned to the Illinois Department of Corrections.”This is a diet based largely on soy protein powder and soy flour.
…”The U.S. Food and Drug Administration lists 288 studies on its database showing the toxicity of soy. Numerous studies show that soy consumption leads to nutrient deficiencies, digestive disorders, endocrine disruption and thyroid problems,” the letter said.
…the inmates in Illinois are fed up to 100 grams per day – beef and chicken by-product mixtures containing 60-70 percent soy, fake soy meats and cheese, “even soy added to baked goods,” the letter said.
Morell said her office has heard from “dozens” of Illinois inmates pleading for help.
“Almost all suffer from serious digestive disorders, such as diarrhea or painful constipation, vomiting, irritable bowel syndrome and sharp pains,” she said. “… One reason for these problems is the high oxalic acid content of soy – no food is higher in oxalic acid than soy protein isolate, which can contain … at least six times higher than the amount found in typical diets.”
Oxalic acid, the letter said, is associated with kidney stones, can disrupt heart functions, replace bone marrow cells and impair nerve functions.
“When the prisoners seek medical treatment, they are told that soy does not cause the problems they are experiencing. Even those who vomit or pass out immediately after eating soy cannot get an order for a soy-free diet…
“It constitutes a medical experiment and amounts to cruel and unusual punishment and must be stopped,” she wrote.

Would things change drastically if the prisoners CONVERTED to ISLAM, the favorite religion of Western leaders?
In Islam, ALL countries that are not Muslim are regarded as the House of War to be conquered for Islam – every human subjugated under cruel Islamic sharia law where defenseless non-Muslims have no human rights
In London, Sheikh Bakri: “We will use your democracy to destroy your democracy.”
