Chesler Chronicles

July 13th, 2009 11:25 am

July 1914, July 1939 — July 2009?

Palestinian peace partners loudly and proudly keep insisting that they will never make peace with Israel or accept a Jewish Israel; that their insistence on 1967 borders is only a strategic move until they can insist on the borders of 1948.

In fact, just today, Palestinians cancelled the folk singer Leonard Cohen’s concert in Ramallah because Cohen wanted to perform in both Jewish Israel and on the West Bank to demonstrate his support for a two-state solution. The Jewish Israelis had no problem with this — but the Palestinians did. They wanted Cohen to perform only in Ramallah, not in Jewish Israel. (Thanks to Judith Weiss and Steven Plaut for this information).

Pamela Geller (Atlas Shrugs) has posted a piece by Nidra Poller about the French trial of Yosouf Fofana, the self-proclaimed leader of the barbarians who plotted and carried out the three-week-long torture of young, Jewish, North African, Ilan Halimi. The details are gory, shocking, partly because the entire neighborhood joined in, witnessed the gruesome “sport,” showed absolutely no mercy, no one even called the police anonymously. The French, in their infinite wisdom, insisted on a closed trial (which lasted two months), thus sparing the French and the world from knowing the full and awful story. What’s more, they announced the verdict late on a Jewish Sabbath evening. Poller writes:

“It was after 10 PM (on Friday night) when the presiding judge finally announced — in a barely audible voice — prison terms for the 27 defendants … most prisoners are released in France after serving half their terms. The whole thing has been hushed up and tucked away under front page stories about holiday traffic jams and the Tour de France bicycle race.”

I view this as a collective French crime, committed on French soil. The French (who also gave the world the Mohammed al-Dura blood libel) are not merely ashamed of themselves; perhaps they fear that too many details will inspire copycat kidnappings and group torture of other young French Jews.

One friend, a North African Jew himself, notes that “Fofana will be a hero in prison. So many prisoners are Muslims who also hate Jews. Fofana’s life will be an easy one. And, because France does not believe in capital punishment, he’ll get out one day.”

I dunno. When that happens, I don’t want him living next door to me. Would that make me an “Islamophobe”?

“Has anyone else noticed how many African-American news anchors now sport haircuts just like President Obama’s? Why does this look remind me of of those fearfully polite Nation of Islam men?”

I was wondering the same thing myself. Also, lots of African-American men on tv commercials. I guess it’s the adoring style today.

Yep, next come the white shirts with little bow ties…and they’ll tear you apart…oh, sorry.. that’s just my nightmare.

not only their hair, but almost every commerical on tv…hhmmmm

The press is hiding B.O.o and the world from us.
And it’s not a slow news day…it’s planned this way. Like the calm before the storm…we’re being lulled..

“President Obama’s haircut reminds you of those fearfully polite Nation of Islam men? What are we avoiding? What makes us feel so helpless, so terrified?”

Ms. Chesler should treat herself to a front line visit of our troops.

They have a different perspective on Islam men. They also know how to apply a generous dose of helpless, terrified feelings onto those not so polite grub worms in a manner that makes them want to avoid all contact with real American men forever.

Of course the Palestinians wouldn’t let Leonard Cohen perform. They have been fighting against a two-state solution ever since the UN voted to partition the British Mandate of Palestine in 1947.

Despite the bloody fighting in Xinjiang Province in China, the Marxist-Islamic alliance remains intact. Communists have always oppressed Muslims. Muslims have always oppressed Communists. However, they are united by their opposition to liberty and by their hatred for Israel.

Jul 13, 2009 - 2:41 pm 6. Leatherneck:

Those of the world hate Jews, and Christians.

Obama sat in a BLT so called church for 20 years. Google BLT, and you can read for yourself why Obama acts the way he does.

I wonder where those IED’s blowing up in Afganistan are coming from. Where ever it is, the plant should be blown to allah.

******Primitives can only be controlled by being confronted. But confronting them means using force. And it’s NOT NICE to use force. It’s reactionary. So sayeth our great mills of propaganda that grind exceeding fine. So don’t expect confrontation. Expect constant low level savagery (which is not low level at all to those being savaged) rising intermittently to high level savagery. At which point enough force will be brought to bear to return it to low level savagery. Maybe. That’s our world. Which can go on not confronting primitives for a long long long time. Perhaps forever.

Jul 13, 2009 - 4:07 pm 9. David W. Lincoln:

Phyllis it does not make you an Islamophobe, but
given the reception you predict for Fofana, it really makes the case for the necessity of debating the return of the death penalty.

As for the similarity between now and July 1914, and July 1939, those who can do something
to avert the worst case scenario should know this: they are running out of time.

There is plenty of history out there that could give insight into the direction we need to move the country. Unfortunately, the current leadership is blind and tone deaf to anything other than the march to Socialism. Will Dear Leader and his minions learn from the past, doubtful, but all can do is keep pointing out the folly of their actions. Hopefully, enough people will learn so that this train wreck can be diverted………however, that is not likely considering who is driving the train.

Hang on America, its going to be a rough couple of years until we vote these SOBs out of office, or hopefully impeach them sooner !!!!!

It ain’t the Islamists that’ll usher in the next major war, though I’m sure the Twelver’s would just love to, it’ll be the Chinese.

The communist country that keeps your local Walmart stocked with stuff we used to make here is a brutal, totalitarian and revanchist regime just itching to get back all they see as theirs, namely Taiwan. China is building a blue water fleet, short range missles and enough fighter aircraft to dominate the sea around Taiwan within three years.

The Japanese can see it, and it scares the crap out of them. The analysts at Jane’s Fighting Ships can see it, and they say this build up is designed to secure the sea/air space of Taiwan from anything other than a full American declaration of war threatening a nuclear response. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Chinese are building a few new boomers too – probably just enough to lay waste to the West Coast just in case?

Not that the Obama Administration would do anything for Taiwan.

Barry O has already pooh-poohed all the old Human Rights stuff we used to spout when he sent Hillary over to make nice-nice with the guys who own our national debt. Plus he ain’t peeped a peep about those pesky Uighurs now, has he? Nope, he didn’t even raise a ruckus when one of our intelligence ships was bitch slapped by the PRN a little while ago either.

BO knows what side his corn bread is buttered on – he’ll ignore China and the muzzies while he continues kissing King Abdullah’s Islamic a$$. And if a few million or so Taiwanese get turned into atomic ashes during the invasion, oh well!

The Arabs and/or Persians wish they had this kind of power, but they don’t.

China does …

7. david levavi: “Is it bigoted Catholic bashing to recall whose teachings lead to such a perverse national morality? Pro-life, indeed!”

My gosh David, can you not distinguish between Catholics and Muslims?? I know it takes some critical thinking skills to see it but none of the perpetrators mentioned in the article that killed Mr. Halimi were Catholic. That the Catholic Church does not have a good history towards the Jews is self evident to anyone who reads history but for crying out loud man, Catholics and Muslims are two different religions!

On a better note, Ms. Chesler, great article. I think things are going to get much worse for Israel and the result will be a horrific nuclear war in the Middle East.

Jul 13, 2009 - 8:17 pm 19. Kondratieff:

One major difference between 1914 Europe and Germany, Italy, Japan in 1939, and the U.S. today is that their leaders respected and loved their countries, while Obama and his ruling coalitions clearly do not.

Perhaps that is why we feel so helpless.

Jul 13, 2009 - 8:38 pm 20. Rachel Peepers:

Phyllis,

My knee jerk response to your article is to agree with every point you make.

But then to ask. So what’s your point? The PJM crowd detests Obama, stands for most everything he detests.

If you think we’re apathetic, you’re 180 degrees off course. Do we not appear apoplectic?

Girlfriend,I don’t walk down the street (a suburban street at that {incidentally, why’d you take a shot at the suburbs? Do you find them boring like Obama describes them?}

Let me rephrase that.

I don’t walk down my suburban street whistling zippididoodah. Not with unemployment over 9%, the economy tanking and this country under the hobnail boot of a socialist tyrant.

At this point, the weakest link we have when it comes to fighting the enemies of freedom and liberty is, of course, the pro-socialist, anti Israel, anti private enterprise, anti U.S. military, anti missile defense system Barack administration.

I’m hesitant to blame Obama voters for getting us into this horrible fix.

The Republican party was a Chinese fire drill for much of the Presidential campaign. And in September, 2008 when we could have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, John McCain committed political suicide by refusing to use his Sunday punches on Obama.

Joe the Plumber(sharing the wealth) served up a Sunday punch to Obama’s jaw for McCain who refused to use it.

Likewise, Obama’s palsy walsy relationships with American hating Jeremy Wright not to mention a bunch of domestic terrorists was off limits as per McCain.

Who even criticized an introducer for using Barack’s middle name. By the way, all a member of the media early in the campaign had to do was ask Barack if it was okay to use his middle name in news stories. Barack would have had to say, “yes.” Which would have put Barack at a distinct disadvantage.

Fact is, McCain should have attacked YoBama at every turn, every lie, but John preferred to turn the other cheek. So he played defense every time. And, as a result, lost big time.
Of course, an in-the-tank mainstream media didn’t help a lick.

The question, though, is what now to do.

At the lowest point, Washington crossed the Delaware. He figured out a way to get out from under a King George who was certifiably nuts (a victim of porphyria).

So I have to ask the question.

What would George Washington and the patriots have done if faced with a bossman as unabashedly, unashamedly, un-American as the boy king, Barack Obama?

Answer that and you’ll probably reveal what we as a country need to do next.

Jul 13, 2009 - 9:22 pm 21. JJKnight:

The elected president obama has no love for USA or he is not a patriot. He is thoroughly brain washed by Wright & the leftist terrorist group with his long association with them.American people do not realize where he is leading the country.Unless people strongly voice their concern ,there is no hope but darkness & miseries will stare back at them.

Jul 13, 2009 - 9:49 pm 22. Erik of Dale:

Mark my words, the day is coming and coming soon that Obambi is going to lift the veil of secrecy and unveil himself as a Muslim. Then he will push HARD for Islam to be the official state religion and have a mosque built near or maybe even in the WH. There will be a constant and never ending stream of Muslim rulers, or kings or tyrants visiting our newly proclaimed muslim ruler and shortly after that war will break out in the middle east between Israel and whatever Arab states think they have the balls to fight the Israeli’s. The world is in a mess and it’s getting worse. Thanks libs, I hope you like your “Hope and Change”. Does 10 or 12 percent unemployment sound good?

Thanks for taking on the response to 7. I took a mental shot at it, but couldn’t unravel his assumptions as you did.

Jul 13, 2009 - 11:56 pm 25. Marie Claude:

The French, in their infinite wisdom, insisted on a closed trial (which lasted two months)

1rst error (but is it one, from MPS Poller ?) this is the use, in our justice system, exception, up to now were not allowed for a particular community ?

What’s more, they announced the verdict late on a Jewish Sabbath evening.

so what ? it isn’t particular for this trial, it depends when the jury finishes discussion and vote.

most prisoners are released in France after serving half their terms. The whole thing has been hushed up and tucked away under front page stories about holiday traffic jams and the Tour de France

I’m sorry but this is a biased appreciation (usual by Poller’s BTW)

all prisonners aren’t released after half term, only those who have attenuating circonstances, this isn’t the case for Fofana, this isn’t also the case for children murderers. Lately I saw a report on a chidren murderer that passed 40 years in jail and that still coudn’t get out (he was sentenced during the time when death penalty was still on, before 1981, his condamnation to death was transformed into life prison)

Also,Bizarre that I can get articles about the trial on each available paper on the net !

I view this as a collective French crime, committed on French soil. The French (who also gave the world the Mohammed al-Dura blood libel) are not merely ashamed of themselves; perhaps they fear that too many details will inspire copycat kidnappings and group torture of other young French Jews

How ya going there ? this isn’t a collective french crime, only one of a surburb gang, thas has only 1,3% of possible support by those who voted Dieudonné, but even so, Dieudonné would condamn such an act, (he might have) this is only the act of weakmindeds who were manipulated by a pervers psycho.

I take your dire as an offense, and doesn’t make you look as an intelligent person that you appeared to be in your previous posts..

One friend, a North African Jew himself, notes that “Fofana will be a hero in prison. So many prisoners are Muslims who also hate Jews.

I’m sot sure of that, they may be hate Jews, but they aren’t all stupid like his crime partners.

The prison heros are more those that made fire and hit the police in surburbs, these are the ones that hope to get a national political representation, not a murderer !

Fofana’s life will be an easy one. And, because France does not believe in capital punishment, he’ll get out one day.”

you don’t know prison conditions in France that were pointed by the Human right lately. But sorry we haven’t death penalty, we are not America, though I agree that Fofana deserves death penalty, might be tha one of his jail parner will make it !

I dunno. When that happens, I don’t want him living next door to me. Would that make me an “Islamophobe”?

for what you have written on my country, that makes of you a shrew ! sorry, I have no word and I am kind

Phyllis, if you want first hand testimony to back up your gut instinct, as to where the west is heading if we don’t change course and wake up from our stupors,(exploding body parts are just the beginning)you might want to contact my brother, Detective Morty Dzikansky for all the gory and bloody details. The anti-terror book, Securing The City, notes that Detective Dzikansky is the foremost expert on suicide bombing in the US, a distinction that few aspire to when growing up, but such it is.

He is an NYPD(recently retired at the age of 46)Detective First Grade, the first anti-terror officer deployed by Police Commissioner Kelly after 9/11/01 to Tel Aviv, after Kelly correctly assessed that the FBI was none to anxious to share its intelligence.

Detective Dzikansky set up the NYPD’s first foreign office to gather intel in a foreign country to assist NYC in beating back the Islamists. As such, he was in a unique-albeit gory-position to view up close and personal the bloody results of the Islamist jihad.

He responded to countless terror attacks, not only in Israel, but around the globe. He was on the scene in 2004 in Madrid, at the Russian Beslan massacre, at Turkish attacks, Egyptian attacks etc. He witnessed first hand a bomber’s head impaled on a lampost; children’s body parts scattered nearby their strollers; tables full of people eating a meal at a restaurant murdered in their soup , etc etc.

Feel free to google him and read the details of his journey into the world of Islamic barbarism, creeping closer and closer to a city near all of us. You can also email me to if you want to learn more….

Jul 14, 2009 - 12:43 am 27. Norman Simms:

You know, Phyllis, your musings reminded me that for the last few weeks I have been watching TCM re-runs of Hymphrey Bogart war movies, like “To Have and Have Not” and “Voyage to Marseilles”–propaganda, to be sure: but over and oevr again, about the values in western civilization worth fioghting and dying for.

The dangers of appeasement and collaboration come up in these films, quite explicitly. The aptness to what we see from our intellectuals and our clerks, alas, is all to explicit.

And the heroes of these movies tend, by the way, not to be Americans even, but British and French. Why? I think the answer is obvious now. There was a real sense in Hollywood and Washington, DC, that the “folks back home” had to understand why öur boys” were dying “over there.” Freedom and democracy and Judeo-Christian values. A shared culture and history.

Have we forgotten all that?

Norman

Jul 14, 2009 - 2:54 am 28. NMP:

“We all seem to be moving in slow motion”

I move quite quickly out of the ’support Israel’ camp after hearing one too many times from NY Liberals how Bush is Hitler BUT he must protect Israel. The real kicker out of the group came when the ’support Israel’ camp openly denied Gov Palin an opportunity to show her support when Ahmadinejad was in town; the nastiest stuff came when Sandra Bernhard threatened to ’send her black brothers to rape Gov Palin’ and Bernhard’s audience gleefully applauded.

To my former NY Liberal friends, if you sh*t all over your friends just to score cultural superiority do not expect your friends to come and help you.

I support Israel as a Democratic ally however I do not support America’s liberals whose actions may end up bringing about destruction of that Nation.

American Liberals brought Obama to power, they are entirely responsible for what happens to Israel; the blood is on their hands…not mine.

23. Meryl:

I agree about the national raft. To successfully maintain a functioning democracy significant numbers of the general public must have critical thinking skills. We used to call it “common sense” and after this last election I’m wondering about how much common sense there is in this country.

Jul 14, 2009 - 5:54 am 30. david levavi:

10. shanghaicharlie:

I don’t pretend to know what “Catholic doctrine” is toward Jews today. I strongly suspect you don’t know it in any detail either. I do know that official Catholic policy toward Jews today today wasn’t official Catholic policy two popes ago. “Catholic doctrine” shifts in reference to Catholic power and secular political fashion.

In any event, official doctrine is nothing more than propaganda if it is contradicted by official behavior and the behavior of church officials toward Jews–a century of mass forced conversions followed by Jesuits, Franciscans and Dominicans organizing festive carnivals to burn accused Converso backsliders alive; drunken priests leading their congregations into ghettos to avenge the crucifixion of their loving and forgiving god with rape, murder and loot every Christmas eve; Vatican opposition to the founding of a Jewish state after ten years of complicit silence to Hitler followed by cold hostility to the Jewish State since– these are the behavioral teachings of church officials for the Catholic laity to emulate.

18. Mike2:

It is critical reading skills rather than thinking skills that separate us. Both Catholicism and Islam are Jewish derivatives but as you suggest, the two faiths are currently very different in many ways.

I was commenting on the immoral French response to monstrous and grotesque Muslim outrages against Jews. It adumbrates of French response to Nazism several generations ago–complicit silence and covert support to enthusiastic participation.

For the twisted morality that piously opposes capital punishment and wrings its hands over the fate of the unborn while treating the torture and murder of Jews as an embarrassing inconvenience to be muted and papered over, yes, I hold the Church quite directly responsible.

Leatherneck:

Nice to hear from you again, buddy.

Jul 14, 2009 - 7:21 am 31. Marie Claude:

Norman Simms, I understand that Hollywood fictions are your referrence for judging us and our country, no wonder your party lost the elections, you live in the mirage of your wishes, where the French are your enemis of course, but not any person or country that are objectively shown to advocate death to the Jews and to America

carry on like that, you are becoming the epiphenomene farce our our century history

Another tragic story heard to read about and absorb. My thoughts are with this young man and his family during this terrible time.

I do hope you continue to enjoy the beautiful weather because soon to follow will be days of clouds and the cold wind that chills to the bone.

Keep you batteries charged Ms. Chelser with a stroll in the beautiful days and the balmy evenings. We need to hear these stories that the press appears to want to ignore, but we also need to see the beauty of life so that we are not defeated by the evil always lurking in the shadows.

You help to shine a light on the darkness and that is good.

Jul 14, 2009 - 10:39 am 37. Tina Trent:

Marie Claude makes good points. The French authorities convicted this killer; they did not stand beside him. Our own justice system releases more than 50% of offenders early and in many other cases fails to bother to convict them: even for violent crimes, gun crimes, most get deals. And I cannot imagine 27 defendants getting simultaneously prosecuted and convicted in America, even for gang violence that resulted in murder. Blame the offenders, not the French, who include police who put their lives on the line to protect the innocent.

Blame the offenders, not Catholicism.

And should the French have broadcast the trial, creating a platform and notoriety for the offenders? I believe it is far better not to give hate criminals the privilege of being elevated in the eyes of the public or their supporters. Don’t validate their self-image: treat them like the common criminals they are. Don’t forget the victim, but let the offenders be forgotten.

With that said, yes, it feels like 1939.

Jul 14, 2009 - 4:18 pm 42. Norman Simms:

Marie Claude

I think you misunderstood me: (a) I was born and bred in Brooklyn, New York, so New Zealand (God help me, despite all my sins) is not my country and I am an Israeli citizen; and (b) “my party” did not lose the elections here in kiwiland, because National, with its Jewish leader, won. Movies are a good way of judging a nation’s popular culture and mood in times of crisis, as in World War II.

Lots of love,

Plus:

All this focus on Palin is a calculated gesture to distract attention away from the scrutiny that should be concetrated at Sonia Sotomayer, who is basically Griselda Blanco’s, “La Madrina”(The Godmother of Miami Cocaine)in judical robes…Her very comment to the extent of “a person can be whatever they want to be” in response to her subversiveness echoes the “Scarface” mentality that is spurring the Mexican drug cartels.
These are not mature individuals of authority…The “Latina” contingent is a collective entity that is endeavoring towards American powers for its own inheritence, not that of its foundation. It does not belong on the Supreme Court. If it should find a place there it is ultimately a failure of the United States judicial process itself, the ability to to discriminate right from wrong.

Jul 14, 2009 - 7:05 pm 44. Max Friedman:

#20 Rachel Peepers said a lot of what I wanted to say, namely that appeasors, cowardice, greed, and self-delusion are what rules America today and much of Europe.

Yes, Yogi, is it “deja’ vu” all over again re 1914 and 1939, but the difference in 1914 was that the world wasn’t turning a blind eye to the Jews of Europe. In 1939, they did.

Now in 2009, Obama and his band of marxists are doing it all over again, joined in by the ever anti-semitic British, French, Belgians, and Spanish (The Greeks are sitting on the fence right now while the Italians are, well, Italians, but not as dumb as you think).

Let’s face it folks, nobody gives a damn about the Jews except some Jews (Leave out the J(Jerk) Street crowd, Peace Now, Jews for a Palestinian whatever, etc). Even liberal Jews don’t care much about Israel. Just look who kissed Obama’s ass at the “friends of Obama” meeting at the White House the other day. They also showed up at the Achmedgenocide dinner held in the New York hotel (Pritzker’s?).

We are on our own, again, as usual. However, help is on its way. The Hondurans, who are now the “Jews of Latin America”, might be the only friend of Israel in L.A. Otherwise, who is left (pardon the pun) on the Latin Left that is NOT anti-Israel, anti-US, and either a communist dictatorship or one in progress (Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, El Salvador, Nicaragua, with Argentina trailing along, and Chile deciding whether they want another marxist Allende or not).

Check out Europe. Anyone Israel can depend on there, esp. with the onslaught of Islamization that is overwhelming the Old World? Russia? Yeah, right (pardonne, Yeah, Left). Red China? Check out the Moslem countries in Africa. The Moslem countries in the Middle East, and in South Asia, and Indonesia where they don’t even know what a Jew or Israeli looks like.

Running out of countries, aren’t we? Once they get rid of that pesky Jewish state of Israel, it is on to bigger and better things for the Marxist-Islamic Convergence (Just think of the Ribbentrop-Molotov secret treaty of 1938 and Poland).

Phyllis, you used to run with a very liberal crowd, and like a mindless crowd, now that you have questioned some of their actions and words, they have turned on you. Run, Phyllis, Run. There is almost no one who will stand by you to defend you. Just ask Kitty Genovese.

The new “Z Street” organization is one of the newest Jewish groups to stand up for Israel, but it may be too little, too late.

How do you say “Alamo” in Hebrew? Israel, watch Star Trek, “Doomsday Machine” and then build one of your own. We might as well take a lot of the bastards with us. Call me Commodore Decker (Dekker, in Yiddish).

Max # 44 – couldn’t agree with you more.

Let me put it very starkly – if heaven forbid Israel goes up in flames, I not only ‘hope’, but expect that the entire Middle East will be radioactive for centuries, and that Washington implodes like the sinking ship that it already has become.

As for Europe, it is on its way down to the bowels of hell. It could not happen to a ‘nicer’ people. It is too bad that some real innocents will pay the price for their cowardly silence.

I have no intention of leaving this earth (due to treacherous designs) without taking many others down with me.

Sorry if that offends many sensibilities, but such is life.

hoola, some nice persons wants to close my mouth !

“Yes, Yogi, is it “deja’ vu” all over again re 1914 and 1939, but the difference in 1914 was that the world wasn’t turning a blind eye to the Jews of Europe. In 1939, they did.”

Tell me if you’re honest here ? which is the very country that started wars ?

“France was one of the countries controlled by the Germans at the early stages of war, but it had a high level of democratic tradition of Liberte, Fraternity and Egalite. In France about 75000 Jews perished out of a population of 350,000, about 70% survived. Many factors contributed to the relatively high survival rate, the most important factor was the attitude of the silent majority, who made it difficult of the Germans to identify and catch the Jews. Even the local police cooperated only reluctantly with the Germans, Jews were provided with false identification papers, given shelter and moral support. Jews also participated massively in the resistance and at the beginning stages about 33% of the resistance fighters were Jewish.”

a witness from a person who really knows the subject, because he experienced it, and this person isn’t pressing on the evil French like most of the smart people that lives in nice NY mansions and appartments do

now question, why France is always quoted in the first place when “antisemitism” appears on this board ?

isn’t it your political agenda to undermine us ?

now, my previsions, in the long term you’ll fail, cuz why would normal people defend interests of one party politically sided persons who hate them the most ?

becuz, if you anathemise them, they loose their motivation

Also, not only Jews are targetted, also French people are murdered,or raped, by the same vey barbarics, and that, that doesn’t interest you

10. shanghaicharlie:Read James Carroll’s “Constantine’s Sword” to better your understanding of the Catholic Church’s hatred of Jews. Constantine decreed that it was perfectly acceptable to kill Jews, providing only that a core of Jews were permitted to survive, so that every generation of Catholics could kill some! Two millenia of inquisitions, pogroms, and the holocaust followed. Coincidence? I don’t think so! BTW–it was not until the 1965 Catholic Schema on the Jews that the Church abandoned the idea that all Jews were personally complicit in the crucifixion, and were fair game for Catholic vengeance. I grew up with the epithet “Christ-killer” ringing in my ears.

Jul 16, 2009 - 7:40 am 51. Grace O'Malley:

Good Lord all the way back to Constantine? Next, if I recall my history I believe that France had a Revolution in 1789, and during that Revolution the basic underpinning of the Catholic Church was rooted out. Though the overall Revolution was a failure ultimately, that secularization of the country was not. In fact the secularization was so successful that the government finds it appropriate to ban religious symbols of any kind. Just how Orthodox Catholic was France in 1939 and just how nationalist and how socialist it was instead.

Why is it some people can never look at the horror socialism has caused? Fascism was not a capitalist enterprise.

To my fellow Jews writing in on this article.

Phyllis, we need you here – not in Manhattan. We need you to ride the buses of Judea and Samaria, to sign books in the College of Judea and Samaria in Ariél, to understand in your gut the risks and fears of my fellow Israelis who have written in here.

We need you to stop using terms like “Palestinian” – giving the el-Husseini liars propaganda victories by granting a false peoplehood to a people who have come to seek work and money – but who are South Syrians or Egyptians – or even former Jews who converted to Islam under pressure of the Turk.

To my fellow Israelis. I do not know what the future will hold, though I am as certain as many of you that it will be war and not peace. It is time to give war, and victory a chance – rather than peace. It is time for us to unite and stand against the traitors who would divide our Holy Land and give it to Arab interlopers; who would bow and scrape before such scum as the European Jew-haters and the garbage known as “the Blessed of Hussein”.

We must take our fate into our own hands and learn the Greek word used by General Metaxas to the Italians when they demanded Kerkira from the Greeks – ókhi – NO! And then we must stand by our word, with gun, grenade thrower, and rifle in hand, and defend what is ours, paid for by 60 generations of persecution and Exile.
